    Best bar in Ireland
    Justin M.

Friend of mine from Louisiana told me to stop by here if I was ever in Dublin. WOW, probably my favorite place in Ireland !!! Bartenders were hilariously great to be around. It smelled like an old bar , and I want that smell when I walk into a place that's been around a long time. I can't wait to get back and have about a dozen Guinness !!!

Stopped in for a quick sandwich and drink before heading off to a museum and loved it. The Irish beef sandwich is served with crisps and horseradish mustard and was as delicious as it was quick. Very friendly service with good recommendations. I was starving and snatched up one of the quarters then snapped this pic. Highly recommend!

A great example of the friendly, warm, casual pubs all around Dublin. Stopped in twice for lunch and a couple pints. Daily soup specials (mushroom one day, cream of veg the next) and a toasted sandwich make up the bulk of their uncomplicated menu. Tons of Irish beers and ciders to chose from (Irish ciders tend to be less sweet...try Falling Apple). Depending on how busy it is, you may get table service or need to order at the bar.

Very friendly staff. Stopped on our way to Dublin Castle and on the way back. Had the chowder and soda bread. The chowder was good. Honestly I have had better. The broth seemed a little on the runny side and the croutons on top were not needed.

Excellent little place to rehydrate after shopping! Unlike other reviewers, I didn't attempt the after-work rush... I stopped at Peter's mid-afternoon on a weekday, and it was lovely and quiet. Despite its location in the midst of city centre, it really has the feel of a traditional Irish pub. The barman was as friendly as he was knowledgeable, giving us plenty of information about the local microbrews on tap. I'm not ashamed to say it -I already see myself coming back for another Galway Hooker! I didn't have any food, but they do have a menu with some sandwiches and usual suspects if you're feeling peckish.

Really cute bar! Great location just on the corner of Stephens's Green/South William Street - you always see people standing outside having a pint. 9 times out of 10 it'll be a guy with a pint of Guinness, which is pretty much what you can expect inside too. Great atmosphere, not a huge amount of room to swing a cat though, so if you're of the cat swinging variety you'll probably want to look elsewhere, but still a really good pub. Just one question though...who the hell is Peter?

Not your typical pub in that it's refreshingly well-lit and inviting, and isn't too loud. The guys behind the counter are gentlemen and they have a nice range of draught and bottled beers, from Heineken and Peroni to domestics from craft brewers like Carrig and Dungarvan. I'd say it's a great place to either start or end the evening. I sat at the bar but the bench seating below the windows (good for groups of 4-6) also looked pretty comfy.

Good pub. Fine service and fine cider. Didn't eat. Chill little pub. Nice interior, very cozy. I would come back if I'm in the area.

Tucked down Dame Court just off Dame Street, The Stag's Head is one of those rare pubs that feels genuinely historic rather than designed to look old. The building dates to the late 1800s, and the interior retains the ornate features of a classic Victorian "gin palace"--rich carved wood, stained glass, brass rails, and a warm, glowing bar that feels wonderfully preserved. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. Expect beer, wine, or spirits rather than mixed drinks. In a place like this, that actually feels exactly right. Other pubs do serve mixed drinks. Between the history, the ambience, the quality of the food, and the wonderful staff, The Stag's Head is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've experienced a real piece of Dublin.

The Wind Jammer is the type of early house that caters to shift workers and Gardaí from Pearse St coming off the night shift. Apart from a few couples the morning after the Trinity Ball, they wouldn't let in too many post-club revellers. The door is closed most early mornings, and they have a CCTV camera to give ya a good hard scrutinising before they'll let you in. The only time I was there for early pints, there was only one other group of young lads there and the barman looked like he was about to stop serving them. During the rest of the day and night, the Wind Jammer is a quiet pub frequented mainly by old, grumpy locals, who would sooner bite your head off than ask you the time of day. If you're really desperate for a drink and can't make it til half ten when the rest of the pubs open, by all means go to The Wind Jammer. Otherwise, there isn't that much else to recommend to it. Oh, one other thing. The Wind Jammer is the closest pub to Windmll Lane Studios, so U2 and The Saw Doctors among others have retired there for post-recording session pints over the years. Not the type of thing that would interest me, but sure it might interest you so I thought that I'd tack it on the end there
