I paid for what was represented and billed as a **new** water heater installation. Unfortunately, the project was mishandled from beginning to end. According to All Star Plumbing's own invoice, the old water heater was removed and the job was completed on June 26, 2025. That wasn't true. A city inspection on July 3 documented that the work was **not complete** and still required final inspection. Then, another city inspection on September 4 found that the **old water heater was still sitting in the basement**, proving it had never been removed despite me already being billed for completed work. It took me contacting the property manager (EPM Iowa, LLC - would also NOT RECOMMEND!) pushing for action before All Star finally returned to finish what I had already paid for. To make matters worse, the "new" water heater was installed with significant physical damage, including a large dent in the tank and damage around the base (tried deflecting that this is just a cosmetic issue). During a later inspection, city inspectors also observed melted vent rings, raising concerns about the venting installation. They had the audacity to suggest that another contractor or tenant caused the damage. Only after I complained months later was I told the technician "forgot" to schedule the return trip because of conditions in the basement. If that was true, why did the invoice state the old water heater had already been removed and the job completed? Why didn't they communicate that from the get go? The basement conditions were ok to install, but not ok enough to remove old water heater. Why was payment requested in full then? The company has repeatedly pointed out that the water heater passed inspection. Passing inspection does **not** change the fact that: * I was billed for work that wasn't actually completed. * A damaged water heater was installed instead of an undamaged new unit. * The timeline and explanations have only been given after the problems were discovered. As a property owner, I expect honesty, quality workmanship, and accurate billing. Instead, I received incomplete work, a damaged product, and months of excuses. I WILL NEVER recommend All Star Plumbing based on my experience. If you're a landlord, tenant or homeowner, I strongly recommend documenting everything, requesting photographs before and after the work, and independently verifying that the work has actually been completed before paying the invoice. You be the judge - They are so proud of their work. The water heater condition is indicative of the entire unit having been compromised - dropped and installed incorrectly. The reason I didn't give them five stars is not based on the quality of their work, but on the billing. My bills were often several times more than expected. Some of that is normal--one finds unexpected issues in an older house. My frustration was due to the office. Trying to get details from the office people, about either parts or hours, was like pulling teeth. They hated answering questions, often misunderstanding and overreacting to even a simply enquiry. In terms of parts: if they have to go to Home Depot and get parts, you will be paying for their time to get the parts. That's fine. But from what I could find out, there was also a serious upcharge on those same parts. This may in fact be industry standard, but to me, it seems like double dipping. I would expect to pay an upcharge for parts they keep in stock, but then, I'm not paying for the person's time acquiring the parts. Here, I was paying for both. (I'd recommend going with them to the hardware store and just paying for the parts yourself. The price different is significant.) In terms of time: Hours billed always considerably longer than I expected. Some of that is disposal, etc. But there was a time when the person left before completing a minor task. I had to call him back. It took some time before he returned. I was curious to know: Since this was the technician's mistake, did I pay for all that extra travel time? I never found out. I asked, not for the total hours, but for the times that made up those hours (clearly, you'd need to know the time frames in order to count the time?). Never got an answer. The regular office person refused to answer and finally passed me to her supervisor, who sent me a form email and then never responded to the actual question. Bottom line? If you want the job done well and don't care about details or cost, they're a great choice. I don't see myself calling them again.

They replaced the lower heating element and the bill was 400 $. Two months later in January 2026 the water heater stopped heating water again. We called Crystal Heating & Plumbing to look at the problem. They told us that the lower heating element needs replacement and also the lower thermostat needs to be replaced. The cost was to be 350$ just for the parts. We could not believe that we need to replace the part that was already replaced 2 months ago and that their diagnosis of thermostat is truthful. Decided to call Rheem technician to help us diagnose the water heater problem. It shows that thermostats are good and the lower heating element needs to be replaced. We just had it replaced 2 months earlier by Crystal Heating & Plumbing and they again wanted to do the same job and have us pay 350$ for parts and unspecified amount for the work to be done !?! Because they lied to us about the thermostat and the lower element was just replaced by them we decided to have it fixed ourselves. The parts that supposed to be 350$ we bought for 70$. After draining the water heater we unscrewed the lower heating element and it was all covered by 1/4 inch calcium deposit. ????? That was not possible in case if the part was replaced 2 months ago. They did not do that, just charged for it. It is impossible for heating element to get so much sediment in 2 months !!!!!!!!!!! We screwed back the newly purchased part and the hot water was back. We write the review to let other people know how deceitful and untrustworthy people working for Crystal Heating & Plumbing are. They refused to acknowledge the scam and refused to refund the money for previous fictitious repair. Stay away from them unless you want to be cheated.

Well at 70 degrees our house is not warm. It takes this darn thing over 3 1/2 hours of constant running to raise the temperature 5 degrees. Our gas bills are outrageous. Yesterday we finally had had enoigh and called to have them see what the problem was. Their solution was, and I quote, "If you're cold turn the furnace up." So now we have a nearly 12 thousand dollar high efficiency furnace that is costing us a fortune to run and not keeping us very warm. We suggest if your furnace dies, go anyplace else.
