In the worse weather we had issues with plumbing in a building we own. They couldn't get there for quite a few days. By the time they did pipes had frozen even though we ran space heaters like crazy try to prevent this. The guy worked on it always in overtime cause he was so busy....we would have called another company if we knew his work was all done in overtime. Our final bill was $12,000 dollars. Yes $12,000. And we still had problems with the plumbing. I felt I was scammed. My husband had passed so I had no knowledge to go on to know what I was getting into. I paid the bill immediatly but it took all my savings. I will never do business with them again. This accrued 2 1/2 years ago......I'm still upset. read more

I would give them 0 stars if I could! Shady business practices these people are not to be trusted. I feel I was taken advantage of honestly. I called them about my water heater. A plumber came out, took a picture and then told me he'd have someone call me with an estimation for a new one plus installation. I was billed over $200! The plumber did not even bring in tools; he attempted to relight the water heater, when that did not work he advised me that I would need a new one and that someone would reach out with more info. the entire interaction lasted less then 15 min. Im sorry but this situation is disgusting! I would not recommend them to anyone because it just feels very money hungry. The worst part is calling them multiple times to just get transferred 4x only to end up reaching an answering machine because NO ONE else answering the phone, including Deb, whose name is on the invoice, can actually give me a straight answer. read more

They lie and cheat to get you to buy a new furnace after charging you to ruin the original one you already have to make sure you need a new one. Then they offer to have a sales person call you to do financing to install it. Every person I have spoken to lied to me. Over $900 to just be screwed over and lie to and they won't give me back my money. read more

I recently purchased a dishwasher and had Petersen Plumbing install it. First problem the gasket wasn't replaced, and I didn't notice I had a leak under my sink until 4 days later. Second, he plugged the dishwasher in under the sink where the garbage disposal was plugged in, instead of behind the refrigerator. With that being said I was no longer able use my garbage disposal. The tech came out and replaced the gasket, (No Charge) but I would have been charged more for him to pull the dishwasher out, unhook the hose so he could get the cord out and plug it behind the refrigerator. I feel like that should have been a no brainer from the beginning. I contacted Petersen Plumbing and still waiting to hear back from them. Woman beware, because companies love to take advantage of us. read more

My experience with Peterson Plumbing & Heating is a bit different than most. I contacted the company to arrange for replacement of a 21-year-old A.O. Smith 40 gal/40,000 btu power vent gas water heater that was operational but becoming increasingly unreliable; requiring almost daily restart cycles to get it to function. I explained to the company representative exactly what was required to replace my existing water heater due to its power vent design (separate intake and exhaust lines); providing manufacturer, model and basic specifications. I arranged for an "after-hours" replacement in a couple days as that was the only way to get it replaced in a timely manner due to their scheduling. The installer arrived on the agreed upon date but he quickly discovered that the new water heater would not work as a replacement for my existing unit due to its air intake and exhaust design configuration. After about 10-15 minutes of discussion, we both decided that he would return to his company and research a proper replacement and also look into potentially moving toward a tankless heater install should they be unable to identify a proper power vent tank unit. After not hearing from the company for several days (w/o reliable hot water), I called A.O. Smith customer service directly to see if they could identify a replacement. Approximately five minutes later, they had identified the proper water heater and provided a local source. The next day, I had the new heater in-hand and installed by another company (responsive) in a matter of two hours. Shortly thereafter, I received an estimate in the mail from Peterson Plumbing & Heating for the install of a tankless water heater. Contained within that estimate were notes stating that they were unable to identify a replacement for my current heater or parts to repair it (which was never part of the planning discussion). A couple days later, I received another mailing from the company which contained a billing invoice for a "truck/trip" charge and a separate "labor" charge. Basically, I was charged for their inability to arrive on-site with the proper/compatible materials necessary to complete the job as planned. I will add that no contract was offered or signed during any step of the process; only a verbal flat-rate (parts/labor) for the job over the phone which seems to be standard practice for many vendors for this type work. Contact with the company after receipt of the invoice for clarification and justification of the charges was pleasant but only resulted in a partial (and in my view, inadequate) reduction of the final amount. My point to all this is you need to make sure you have a very clear understanding of this company's working policies when it comes to your financial liabilities if "they" make an error during any aspect of the job's planning or execution. My error resulted in me being held liable for an initial $200 billing with no physical work ever being conducted. I will say that I fully understand that their time is important and has value but, in this case, that value in light of their mistake, is viewed as excessive. Lesson-learned. read more

Not good is an understatement. Had a toilet installed and the toilet immediately broke. The tech used their own hardware to attach the toilet to the floor (Bolts, nuts) which is coincidentally where the toilet broke. It was like trying to get a child to take accountability for the damage in that they shut down and sat on the phone in an awkward silence. Carter did tell me that because I didn't purchase the toilet from them, that they aren't responsible for the damage caused by their actions even though they added hardware which manipulated what should have been done during install. I would like to thank the Petersen damage control specialist, Carter, for his smug attitude and condescending customer service skills. Carter did not inquire AT ALL about my well being though I was injured by the company's poor quality work. I also appreciate the quick follow up of 3 days after the initial phone call to report the damage. At the end of the call, after Carter had basically told me to go f*** myself and stopped speaking, I told him I don't think I should have to pay for them to come over, break my toilet, cause an injury, tear up my floor around my toilet. Carter said he would send a check for a refund since I paid for services on the spot. At the end of the day, no accountability but I'm glad that I am able to contact the BBB and post comments about this incident. Technology is great and people should know who they are hiring to come into their home to damage their property. I will take responsibility for not reading the recent reviews or looking into their BBB rating. read more

I had a fairly large residential job (~4k$) that Petersen worked on. They made several mistakes including not installing two upgrades to the new water heater that were requested, and paid for. The worse problem was they installed an underground gas line that leaked (was not sealed correctly). They charge me $400+ to do a temporary repair of the ground water that leaked in. The repair of this line was made difficult because it was under a stone patio. I offered to pay for the removal of a section of the patio if they would fix the gas line that they installed incorrectly. Never heard back after several calls. They do shabby work and don't stand by their work. read more

I know my parents loved their work, but it didn't go so well for me. I had them give me a quote (it was great) back in October, because I needed them in early March. We all agreed on the quote and we even edited it to add more things. Then I left message after message with their office, but no one EVER contacted me with a date for the work. My parents called them WAY after I did and their work is done, so I have to assume they just didn't want the work. THEN WHY NOT JUST SAY THAT???? Now that I'm past the date I needed the work done, I will have to find someone else to do a few other odds and ends. I guess it is all good, because if they HAD come out, my home repair bill would have been nearly $19,000, but now I'll only be spending about $10,000. read more

Was told they had truck problems and would set up an estimate for the afternoon. Notta. Spent my entire day off work at home to receive them. Never heard from them...and over a month has passed. Apparently replacing the valve in the shower costs $292! Even with all the hardware removed already. They don't carry the right tools to do the job so they can charge you $200 labor and the cost of tools to do their shopping in your dime! read more

If a "0" was possible for a score..that's what they'd get. We called for a leaky pipe and the drain was clogged. First guy replaced the old section of pipe..took 2 minutes..125.00 dollars for that. Pipe was still leaking after he left. But here's the rip off..he can't unclog the pipe. They consider that 2 service calls because its 2 different problems. Another 110 dollars from my elderly mother. And now the pipe isn't leaking. That's over 236.00 dollars to replace a section of pipe and unclog a drain. I would certInly think a "reputable" company could do both in one visit. We will NEVER use them again. And, my next call is to BBB in IA and IL. Detest companies that take advantage of people like this especially when it's MY 80 year old mother. Shameful. read more

I seen Petersen Plumbing was voted #1 in the QCA for plumbing and I'd like to tell my story of how Petersen totally screwed me over one time. I was flipping a house and had to replace a 10ft stretch of busted 2'' cast iron drain line running from the kitchen to the main drain. The line was rotted in the floor just where the line entered into the cement and turned 90 degrees and started to go towards the main line. I had already busted up the cement and dug out the old pipe so all that was needed was to replace 10ft of pvc 2'' pipe to the main line. I would have done it myself but wanted to have it done by a "professional" plumbing company in order to please potential buyers of the home that all was done professionally. This job would have literally taken me about 1 hour to do myself. I was billed out 5 hours by one of their idiot slow ass plumbers. I don't know what the hell he was doing for that long but all he had to do was connect the old 2'' cast line with a boot to the new pvc and connect the 2'' line to the main line. Then I was charged over $300 material for which the US government would have only paid $50 for. Seriously though I could have bought the material for like $35 at Menard's. It was a 2'' boot, 10' piece of 2''PVC, a 90 degree elbow, and a 4'' to 2'' boot/coupler. That's it!! I called and complained and somehow got their "highly respected" owner Paul who tried to justify it all. "oh its a special kind of stainless steel hub boot" he told me. I said are you saying it cost like $100 per boot? He said it cost them $50 per boot (yeah right) and that they mark all materials up 10% I told him I was impressed with his math and how his company is still in business and flourishing none the less while ripping people completely off. He was thrown off guard when I said I was going to pay this bill so he can continue to pour money into his "hobby farm" in Eldridge, IA. Yeah that tax deduction needs to go. Its called a 2 acre hay field buddy and you need to pay your fucking property taxes like everyone else asshole. read more
