Now I know why…read more While I did not have issues with the Enrolled Agent who actually prepared my 2023 taxes, I did have an issue with the owner. She did not respond to numerous emails nor did she return numerous calls. When I finally reached her, she failed to take responsibility for the firm's error. Details: I left their offices on April 4, 2024 with taxes completed (or so I thought) and envelopes they provided pre-addressed to the IRS with instructions on how to make required quarterly payments. At the check-out desk, I asked if that was everything I needed to do and was told "yes." On May 29, I received notices from the City of Portland (Multnomah County Preschool and Metro Supportive Housing) for overdue balances (plus penalty and interest) totaling $4,695.03. Of that, $610.03 was due to penalties and interest. I paid but then started my attempts to contact the firm to find out why I had not been advised about these charges and/or given additional envelopes to submit my payments. It was not until JULY that I was actually connected with the owner, "Kristi," who was rude, long-winded, and dismissive. Her best offer was a $200 credit on the next two years of tax preparation. (Obviously I will not be going back!) Instead of the $610 penalty and interest I was charged by Portland, I said -- as a compromise -- I would accept $400 in cash. She responded "no," that she had "a business to run" and hung up. I lost $600 and lots of time. I was treated rudely and unfairly. I do not recommend this business.

This is the first time I've ever hired anyone to do my taxes and Becker dropped the ball numerous…read moretimes. When I made the appointment, no one told me what to bring or that I need a security code to get into the building. I arrived with my documents and had to call them to get into the building. We met with an accountant who told me I didn't bring a copy of last year's taxes. No worries. I'll just log into H&R Block and retrieve them. Nope. She didn't know the wifi password to allow me to log on from my phone. So I told her she can just go to the site from her computer and I'll give her the log in and password. She was not willing to do that and just threw up her hands and say she can't even get started. So I went home and immediately sent the documents so she had them within 30 min of me leaving. I expected her to call with questions on where she could get me some credits or deductions but she didn't. I got a call that they were ready. She got the same results as I did with H&R Block. But it cost me $425. Which is fine but she didn't impart a lot of knowledge on how I could avoid owing. I signed the documents and sent them back, asking for confirmation that they had been sent to IRS since we were very close to the deadline. I also noted that she had the old address on the documents and I had moved in 2022. I figured she would correct it before sending it to the IRS. I emailed 3x asking for confirmation that the filing was complete. I never got a response. I finally called in on the deadline and at least got a verbal confirmation that they were sent. I am very fortunate that my state refund found its way to me since Becker had not corrected my address and the state still had the old one. Very disappointing. I'll just do my own taxes from here on out.

I was thrilled with our conversation and her understanding of our back log of bookkeeping and taxes that needed to be done. We made an appt. For me to bring in our latest completed taxes to help her see our arrangement and to file an extension for this year (2023), as we knew our project needs were too big and wouldn't even get started until after the current tax season. Our first appt I was very excited about but had to reschedule because my dad was dying of Stage 4 lung cancer and was being unexpectedly moving to in home hospice that day with myself caretaking. Nightmare. (My dad then died abruptly first week of March. No sob story just an important detail to this review) I explained this to the person that answered the phone when I first needed to reschedule that very first appt and she was very nice about it and said they would call me back to reschedule as she couldn't make the appt herself. I never heard back. I've called repeatedly over the past following weeks to set up a new appt but can never get a call back. Finally, today I got passed around and was told that Candy wanted to have this gentleman tell me that because I've missed 2 appts they can no longer offer their services with zero communication or discussion about what may or may not have accidentally happened in communication over the dying phase of my father. I knew nothing of a second appt PLUS I had responsibly called to reschedule the one and only appt I ever had. PLUS they knew of the situation with my father dying under my care. I'm finally able to get back to my "regular life" this week and the day to day today office work of family and was deeply disappointed in the manner that Becker Bookkeeping and Candy handled this situation. My husband and I both own our own businesses with 5 stars on Yelp and highly respect any appts we have with others.
