This is a review of the hotel restaurant, Piattofondo. I was thrilled to find a fully gluten-free fine dining restaurant in my search for gf places. In actuality this is the first ever 100% gf restaurant I've ever been to, so that in itself is amazing and speaks to the quality of their dishes of they maintain business in a culinary niche like gf.
The hotel entrance was adorably quaint with lovely romantic lighting down the path to the front door. It also had a pretty convenient location to the Viareggiio boardwalk and was just a couple of mins walking distance from all the nighttime activities.
We had reservations and were shown to a table immediately. The restaurant dining space was pretty small, with only a few tables. Our very knowledgeable and professional server took care of all the tables and seemed really passionate about their allergin conscious cuisine.
The gf bread they served was unfortunately not the best, but I loved the egg based amuse bouche, and then the first course sampler was fantastic. The husband and I shared the bolognese ravioli for our primi, and it was absolutely outstanding and one of the most memorable dishes of the night. For secondi, I had the fried seafood, and the husband of mine had the pork rib. Both were not well seasoned and a bit tough to get through. Portions were large, leaving no room for dessert.
The first few courses and the fabulous attention to crafting dishes celiacs usually wouldn't get to have, make this place a must visit if you're gf. I'd definitely come again and just try something different as my second course. read more
