Well spring has sprung, so what better to do is start thinking landscaping. Went to Petitti's because are the professionals and local. Wanted to start planning the purchase of flowers but needed guidance in my selection, when and what to buy questions. Walked in the store, past no less than six yellow shirted workers, no one asked if I needed help, what I was looking for, little lone planting instructions. I wasn't going to guess so I made another lap around. Everyone was preoccupied, maybe it was to early in the season but it didn't seem the store was ready for business yet. Well I left. Have been shopping at Gales for a number years. Good selection and prices. Would have given 5 stars except that the staff got a little funny about their coupon. It was to be 20% of on item. They had a sign on the annual flats with the price. They claim that is a sale price but nowhere did it indicate it was a sale item. Would not honor coupon. Did not buy that day. If it had been a regular priced item they would have accepted coupon. It would have ended up that I was paying more for the sale item than getting it at the regular price and then 20% off. Simple kindness and courtesy are too much to expect when shopping at Gales Garden Center in Brunswick. I went there with my wife and kids. Because the flower pot I was buying was very heavy, and I had young kids, I set it close to the cashier and kindly explained that we had some more shopping to do. The place was empty and the pot was out of the way. She said nothing, rang it up, and watched us the whole time we continued shopping. After our $110 purchase was rung up our 5 yr old daughter tripped in the checkout area, badly skinning and bruising her knee. She screamed, and the two cashiers laughed at her. We had to take her shoe off and our 3 yr old son mimicked her, crying and taking his shoes off. The cashiers continued laughing hysterically through the ordeal, never offering any help or condolences. One lady even laughed and sarcastically asked, "Why don't you help them?" to a reply of, "I have my own kids to deal with." I guess that was really funny. Then an old lady opened the door of her office and stared at us. I told her we were fine, assuming she was concerned about my family's well being. She kept staring, not saying anything, making it clear that her concern was us disturbing customers in her empty store. She never spoke, only returning to her office when we left awkwardly carrying all of the items we bought and two crying kids, still listening to the two cashiers laughing. Not one word of kindness from all three employees. I regret the business we gave them, and will never give them business again. Common decency is not that difficult to achieve. I hope this influences somebody to look elsewhere for items they sell. read more

I was in Gale's a month or so ago & needed help with a gnat problem I was having. Bert came right up & asked if I needed help. He explained everything to me,,how I got the gnats & the best way to get rid of them. Within a couple of days the gnats were gone. read more

I have been a longtime customer of Gale's Brunswick Garden Center and have literally spent thousands of dollars there through the years on seed starting supplies, plants, ProMix, etc. They used to post online coupons on their website, which I used each year as I dropped my tax refund on the coming year's garden supplies. I had one coupon left, a coupon clearly labeled NO EXPIRATION DATE for 20% off up to three of any one item. I specifically hung onto this coupon until I had to buy ProMix, which never goes on sale. When my husband and I got to the register (with my cart full of supplies for our home orchard), we were told they won't accept that coupon. They have a sign near the register that reads, "We no longer accept expired coupons." But this wasn't an expired coupon--it clearly stated NO EXPIRATION DATE. We weren't even rude about it...we just said that made no sense, how could you not accept a coupon that said no expiration date. The two cashiers made us feel like we were trying to cheat them. One said, "You're not supposed to SAVE the coupon...you're supposed to print it and use it the same day." Since when is that how coupons work? And why would it read "no expiration date"? And then the other cashier pipes in, "This coupon is even more expired...we haven't printed these for years." "More" expired? Again, the coupon says NO EXPIRATION DATE. Another man who works in the store and with whom we have consulted about plants for years stood off to the side and observed our conversation and said nothing, so apparently everyone there was fine with how we were being treated. All in all, the coupon would have saved us a whopping total of $12. I'm glad Gale's is doing so well that it was worth losing our immediate hundred dollar plus sale over a matter of $12, and losing all of the potential money we would have spent this spring and summer, as they have lost us as customers permanently for the way they treated us so rudely in the process. I shop with my wallet and they will never receive another dollar of my business. We left all of our potential purchases with them at the register and proceeded to drive to Maria's Garden Center in Strongsville, where we bought our ProMix and were treated like human beings. In a time when storefront retailers keep losing sales to online shopping, you'd think Gale's would at least want to retain walk-in business. From now on, I will order any specialty garden supplies online rather than return to Gale's Brunswick Garden Center. P.S. All you needed was a sign that said "We no longer accept online coupons," rather than trying to insult us and make us feel like we were trying to do something wrong by using your "NO EXPIRATION DATE" coupons. read more

very poor business practices. purchased water fountain for yard, less then 2 weeks later fountain was on sale for over $100 less. asked for a refund was told gale's policy does not allow such refunds. ridiculous! all such purchases will be made at home depot, petitti or elsewhere. gale's your policy stinks! read more
