These people do not know what they are doing. They could care less about the dogs as their only goal is money. These people should be ashamed of themselves. They will lie straight to your face. I went in once and made it a point I was considering a hearing dog since I am deaf. My boyfriend and I were considering building a bond and rapor and training it ourselves. Our visit was to give us ideas. Well, we certainly won't be choosing PetLand. First off these dogs are from puppy mills and sold to suckers for an outrageous price. My family owns TWO pure bred standard poodles. One of them is a red, which was the same color as the one we looked at. PetLand's puppy was $4,000 at least. That's more than the combined cost of both my family's dogs. We asked to see the paperwork, which was Nonexistent as well as the breeder it came from. We did our research. The breeder the employees told us did not exist. It was so obvious the dogs were sedated. I was informed from outside services that the only time the dogs get interaction is it someone asks to see it. I felt so sorry for these animals. I went back to give them play time. Some had an odor to them as though they were not cared for well. I was curious the price of an Australian Shepherd. The employee wasn't even sure it was one, but later claimed it was a pure bred. She couldn't even spell the name of the breed correctly. PetLand asked between $4,800 to $5,100 for that dog. The most a pure bred Australian Shepherd goes for on average is $3,000. The dogs are said to be sold to customers sick. Don't fall for this scam. If anything just go in to play with the dogs. I am not alone when I say I wish this place would get shut down. ​​ read more

Asking employee that sales the puppies, what kind of dog it is, she did not know nor was she going to try to find out for me. she had no knowledge of any of the puppies. So I bought my puppy at Petland in Columbus. went back into Petland again in Chillicothe after I bought my puppy to get her a playmate. Once again the sales people had no knowledge of their puppies. Didnt know what the breed was, how big they would become. So plan to go back to Columbus for my purchase. Everytime I go into Petland in Chillicothe to purchase something for my puppy their is never a cashier to check you out. They let you stand there waiting on them to come to register, when they see their line build up, then they come to register. They are always a group of employees standing by computer across from puppies moreless socializing with each other and carrying on rather than helping their customers. This store has the worst customer service of any pet store that I have ever been in. read more

As far as Pet Stores go, it's hard to beat Petland. If you're looking for a pet, you will find a good selection of birds, reptiles, fish, ferrets, hamsters, dogs, cats and more. It's not a very big store, so you may not find everything you need. If it's not in stock, they've got dozens of other stores in the area to pull from, so don't let the inventory bother you. The service is excellent. Most of the staff seem to really know a lot about the pet industry and always have good advice for those of us who have a lot of questions. They certainly don't mind if you just window shop or hug all the puppies. They know that how hard it is to resist playing with a precious little pooch! The only potential problem with this Petland is its survival. It's surrounded by vacant stores in a formerly bustling South Hamilton Road neighborhood. It seems to stand alone with a few restaurants around it. It's not the area it once was, so the shopping traffic has diminished quite a bit. The final holdout that is the area shopping anchor is the old Eastland Mall, which is right down the street. If that goes, so will the neighborhood. Otherwise, I would highly recommend patronizing this Petland. Great people, good service and the best pet selection in Southeast Columbus. Go pet a pooch today! read more

If you want to pay through the nose for a sick animal, support puppy mills, wait around for the one cashier to wait on you, and be nagged by an overzealous employee, then this is the place for you. The one good thing about this place is that it's always fun to go in and play with the ferrets, hamsters, birds, lizards, fish and other small animals that are right there and accessible to you. There's even a giant turtle that roams around the store free, or rather sits in the corner. So we use this place as a fun outing when we're bored. But... I saw a lot of video evidence on tv that Petland buys their puppies from abusive, neglectful breeders who keep their dogs in deplorable conditions. They also have a reputation for selling animals that come sick and tend to die on you or cause you a lot of medical bills. All this for incredibly exorbitant prices. If you do some research you'll see there are lawsuits and a lot of complaints about them. I accidentally searched for them in Cinncinatti and a lot of them are out of business. To be fair, Petland stores are franchise owned, according to an employee, so there's no guarantee that they all buy from disreputable breeders. But there were more than a few in the video I saw and we did get a sick hamster from them. You may well be safe getting a puppy from there, and there may only be a small number of sick animals coming from abusive breeders. But I would rather not take that chance and I certainly don't want to profit puppy mills. We paid over $20 for a little hamster. The kid that works in there, who is always trying to sell us stuff and impart his questionable knowledge on us, tried to sell her some dry tail medicine for the hamster. He said when you put two hamsters together they get sick and die if you don't have this medicine. My girlfriend has had dozens of hamsters for years and has never had one get sick ever and has never heard of this condition. When we took the hamster home, it did get sick as he predicted but not the hamster we already had. So my suspicion is that these are sick hamsters and they know it so they tell employees to push this medicine on people. We thought he was just trying to upsell us so we didn't get it and ended up having to go back for it. He told us by the time we noticed the hamster was sick it would be too late but we got the medicine and the hamster got better. Meanwhile, the few times we have actually bought stuff in here, we had to wait for a cashier. Then one time they charged us full price for a clearance item and we had to wait 15 minutes for somebody to refund the money. This is because of all the employees in there, only one was permitted to operate the register and/or give out refunds. There were two employees milling around after closing and yet we had to wait. The nagging employee was apologetic but what is the sense in this? So we're pretty sure we aren't going to buy any animals from there but it is still fun sometimes to go in there and play and look at the hot girl that works in there. read more
