Our family spent about 6 weeks going in and out of Petland Racine. We spent hours with a variety of pups and had a lot of discussion with the staff. We found the store to be clean and always full of customers. My wife and I had several discussions with the store owner, Adam. He has been with Petland for 20 years and took over this store 3 years ago. He answered our questions on their breeders to include how pups were raised, space for them, transportation to the store, and the tracking of genetic defects. A number of photos with information were available on many of the breeders they used. I took Petland for their word and did not personally check into each breeder. A vetrinarian I play tennis with and not associated with Petland, told me he has seen some excellent dogs come from the store. We decided to buy two pups, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a miniature Australian Sheppard. The Aussie was vibrantly healthy and the Cavalier had the slightest hint of a puppy cough (which they made aware to us from the start and which they provided medication). The animal was cleared by their vet the day we brought him home. The dogs were expensive compared to buying from a local breeder, but Adam did some trimming of the cost for a number of reasons. I think the full range of support with access to a variety of pups, microchip registration, confidence in the AKC/APRI, their research into their breeders, warranties, education aids and the several vet screenings done on each animal, offset things I wasn't sure I would get from a local breeder. How long would it take me to truly be informed on all those areas? Petland employee Natalie, spent a whopping 2.5 hours with us the night we brought the dogs home, covering the myriad of details from food to fleas to potty training that needed to be addressed. All in all, so far as we don't run into any future issues that aren't handled properly, the experience was VERY positive. Most importantly, WE LOVE THE NEW PUPS! read more

Felt scammed after purchasing a dog that I told was good showing or breeding. Brought to their attention and they stated their dogs are for companion only. The rules for their warranty on the pet included pet insurance $65 a month and vitamins they required. read more

Zero stars. If you have any experience working with dogs or specific breeds you know they get these puppies from puppy mills. Every batch of puppies look identical, they overbreed momma dogs, which is 100% animal abuse. They also do no genetic or health testing for their puppies, as you may notice when you visit lots of puppies are coughing and sneezing. But they have no problem selling you a sick puppy to make a couple thousand. They care about quantity and not quality. Please do your research about pet stores and puppy mills. Staff were very helpful and informative. Pup Pro Connect were the major hero's of my family's story. We took our Great Dane home and immediately had some significant behavioral issues and mouthing concerns. Khalvin was able to not only connect with us the very same day and start training with her but has followed up with us daily to ensure we're successful. Terrible establishment.. I'm not sure how often they clean but the dog fumes were awful, it's a bit disturbing that they even allow the dogs to be in spaces like that. The products are extremely over priced & average. You're looking to pay 100+ plus on a bag of dog food you can get for half the price anywhere else. On top of it they completely lie about the care they give their animals. What kind of pet store lets a giant turtle walk around with absolutely no supervision? There were children literally stomping on it thinking he was fake & nobody did a thing all because they're too cheap to give him a real home, just sad! These are the animals we're spending an arm and leg for ? No thank you. Ya'll charge around 5-10 thousand dollars for dogs but can't afford to give the turtle a home? Awful experience - the staff admitted to us when buying our puppy that he had been coughing as early as 7/25/25, and was immediately placed on three different antibiotics -- two of which he was far too young to safely receive at just 8 weeks old. We were later told he could not be sold on the 8th due to a "cold." However, once "cleared" when we purchased him a week later, we noticed only an occasional cough. Looking back, it seems very possible he had been given a cough suppressant to mask symptoms. Within just two nights of bringing him home, his condition worsened dramatically. He began coughing uncontrollably, gagging up secretions, was very fatigued, and lost interest in eating/drinking. We took him to the emergency vet, where he was diagnosed with pneumonia via X-ray. What's most concerning is that the staff or vet or whatever clearly knew he had been ill from the start. The same cough had been present since July, just brewing in his lungs, and rather than addressing it properly, they allowed him to get sicker and remain with other puppies -- knowingly risking the spread of kennel cough, which is highly transmissible. On top of this, they offer a so-called "warranty" that requires the puppy to be evaluated by a primary vet within 5 days. For most people, it's nearly impossible to secure a new patient appointment that quickly, which makes the warranty, which is like a couple hundred dollars reimbursed towards only specific things, useless. We had heard very poor things about this business, and unfortunately, they lived up to every single one of those warnings. Because of our experience, we will make it a point to deter others from ever purchasing from this establishment in the future. This entire situation was heartbreaking and avoidable. Our puppy has suffered, we have faced significant stress and emergency vet costs, and the business showed little regard for the animal's health or the well-being of their customers. Buyers deserve honesty and transparency, and above all, these puppies deserve better. We love our puppy and he is just an innocent part of this; however, we will never go in that store again, and you shouldn't either!! read more

Chill .. the store was clean and every time a pup went bathroom I seen staff cleaning right away! Appreciate the well maintained treatment of the dogs you can tell they are happy pups. Kibble was in kennels, I could plainly see the staff feeding the dogs . And I also liked that the prices of each dog was posted on the glass, it was extremely helpful! read more

I went in Petland just to look. I had a dog and said I'd never get another because the heart break of loosing them is the worst thing ever. I saw a dog in a cage all by itself, looked very scared, so I asked to see it. It was afraid to come out. Well of course I loved it. I asked why was it by itself and they told me her buddy went home this week. I went home and decided I would save this puppy mill dog and my husband and I went back to get it. After we paid, they said " oh she's on medication, we give all puppies this to go home with". (Why didn't they tell me that before I paid) WRONG.. she had parasites in her intestines AND that's why she was BY HERSELF in the cage. She has been on 3 rounds of antibiotics since and now we can only hope as she gets older her immune system fights it. I went thru a company to do research on the breeder listed on her certificate and he BREEDS 55 DOGS! Insane! These puppy mills should be shut down and Petland should do a better job vetting out these so called "Breeders". For the price it's crazy! Go to a REAL Breeder and get your dog. Less money with no health issues. Shame on Petland for not being honest about the dogs. read more

My daughter and I went to look at some puppies. This place should be condemned, banned and knocked down after all the animals are released. The puppies are trapped in plastic cell like boxes with 2-4 in one cube. The little holes in the plastic do not give them enough oxygen at night where they are left on their own. No one tends to them during the evening so they have no choice but to urinate on each other. The husky- Pomeranian was completely saturated on the front of her body with urine that the color of her white fur was yellow. Noses are all dry which indicates they are sick. The Golden Retriever which was the most held puppy there had a distended belly which indicates parasitic or bacterial infection is present. They provide a squirt of hand sanitizer before handling which is pure laziness. A person needs to actually wash their hands fully before handling a baby. The hand sanitizer in the first box we were in leaked. They run a video that is false saying the animals are from this top breeder. Puppies are 3-5K each and they offer financing which almost every one is approved. The interest rate is so high that you end up paying 9K. The puppies are sadly infected and you will get them home and then your knee deep in veterinary bills because you fall in love with the puppy. Places like this should be shut down. I have photos, but my daughter is in the photo and I am not sure who these people are running it.. maybe mafia or something. Greed at its finest and it's costing innocent animals their lives. Love the options in the store, but everything is definitely pricey. That being said, I bought 2 toys I was recommended for Australian Shepards, sweet lady she was, but the toys didn't last longer then 15 minutes. No replacement or refund able to happened as I called to confirm. Not a big person on reviews but I just lost out on about $50. read more

She never came back to help, in spite of me standing in her view the majority of the time I was there. Customers NEED to know how to take care of their aquatic friends the PROPER way, not with just pictures of memes telling you to buy more than one fish. Fish are not pets you just drop in a tank and feed once in a while. Store seems to cater to just their Dogs. A friend purchased frogs the other day and one died nearly two days later due to a fungal infection on its foot. I counted about 3 dead fish in tanks, one of which had their eyes eaten out so who knows how long it's been in the tank and how long the other fish have been in there without being fed. Not surprising but most of the staff stood around and conversed with each other instead of making sure customer that were throughout the store were taken care of. Went to go get a dog. Was absolutely horrified that there's so many puppies within a tiny kennel that is like 4ft x 6ft. On top of that when you wanted to pet one they smell like poop or pee which for me is a turn off. Didn't realize some dogs are worth more than $3,500. That's highway robbery. You can easily get a dog for cheaper at the animal humane society. At least then your saving a life. The problem is after you pet the dog and share your love to them and have a soft spot, the employees take advantage of it. They ask for all your information so they can push to have you get the dog. They don't stop until you just give in via peer pressure or just say no 100 times to make them be quiet. The worst part is when you get the dog... they upsale you on everything!!!! Anything you buy there is wayyyyy over priced and by the time you finish you can easily add another $2,000 to your bill. I was watching someone get a dog and was just dumbfounded on how gullible they are to the employees in getting everything they supposedly needed for your dog. But in reality it's not needed at all or you could of gotten it all on amazon for easily less than $400. Priced it all out. read more

If I could give negative star reviews, I would. I walked in on a Saturday. They do not provide water and food for the puppies. Upon asking why one of the puppies wasn't getting water (all recorded on video), they screamed profanities at me. Thereafter the owner admitting that the puppy was misbehaving and knocked over the water which is why he was being punished and left without water. This is shocking and baffling! I'm not against for profit businesses, but not at the expense of Animal or Human welfare. I have contacted the Sherif, dpt of Agriculture, Humane Society, and will not stop there! Although the owner said "humans and animals are the same," I believe it is our duty as grownup adults to take care of animals and be their voice when they are being tortured in front of our eyes. Why call me profanities upon simply asking why the puppies didn't have access to water? Why have the staff start cursing at you, while you are not and the only thing was asked was why no water? Online and their outdoor sign say open Fridays until 8pm. We drove 40 minutes after a long days work and we arrive to locked doors and the staff cleaning. No where is it communicated that they close at 6pm. The workers ignored the group gathering outside with the same intentions, to add a family member. This place is a joke in the eyes of the pet industry. It is run by a bunch of nobodies who don't really have a clue about the animals they sell. I use to only go here for supplies for my bird, but after my experiences with this place I will be refusing to give any more of my money to this shady business. Here is a list of the things that I have found to be wrong with this establishment: 1) They get their puppies from puppy mills and overcharge you for them. They also have some "vet" come in to make sure the animals have a clean bill of health but I feel that this practice is shady. For example, my mother was looking to get a Yorkie through them, but they wanted $3000 for the dog, which is a little too much in my tastes. The dog itself was shakey and didn't look very healthy. A day or two later, my mother went to check on the dog and supposedly it was sold. We think the dog may have died because something was wrong with it, but they weren't going to disclose that with a customer. 2) Back when they had Quaker Parrots for sale, I stopped in a few times to see them because I also own a Quaker and miss seeing how mine was when he was a baby. Within the nest of Quakers, they, for some reason, had one Princess of Wales Parakeet in the box with them. Over time, it was obvious that the Quakers were the real attraction in that container, and as they grew up, they actually started to bully the PoW Parakeet. This poor little bird was all beat up and starved of attention. Her feathers were all messy and her long and beautiful tail was missing feathers and the ones that were there were in poor condition. If I had another chance, I would go in there and make an offer on the bird to save it. They probably still would have only accepted the full price for the animal. 3) When they have had baby Bearded Dragons, I don't think they seperate the aggressive siblings from the rest of the group. What I'm talking about is the fact that beardies will attack eachother, biting off toes, feet and even parts of eachother's tails. The last time I was in there, every single Bearded Dragon they had was missing something, a few missing entire feet. 4) When it comes to owning a bird, wings and nails need to be clipped often. Here, at Petland, I can get my Quaker's wings and nails clipped for about $18. The cost is estimated on the bird's size, and because my bird is about 3 times bigger than a Budgie this price is ridiculous. Because of this, I go to Havahart who only does it for $3. Also, the person I get my birds stuff trimmed by has been doing it longer than some nobody from Petland who is charging you $18 to put your bird's life in their hands. All in all, this place is nothing but a moneygrab. They don't care for their animals and they don't care about you, they just want the cash thats in your pocket. I am glad that they turned down my job offer, because I would have felt miserable working here. This place needs to be closed down, or atleast learn about the animals they are selling and actually care for them. If you need supplies or anything, especially grooming, or bird trimmings, go to Havahart on Highway 20 by Jose's Blue Sombrero. Worst customer service ever. Bought a coat for my friends dog and it didn't fit. Well no returns on coats although no one told me that and there was supposedly a sign that I never saw. I stood there and said to my friend well if it doesn't fit you can exchange it. The clerk said nothing. But I think I should have been told no returns. But you can bring the dog in and try it in so why is it any different if you bring it home and try it on or try it on there. That makes no sense. And they wonder why they have a bad reputation. I don't wonder why. I was looking at a dog there but no more. They lost a sale for a $43 coat. I don't work with places with such poor customer service. As first-time pet owners, we were nervous and completely unsure of the process that goes into buying a puppy. When we arrived, we were brought into a small space to meet a puppy one-by-one. Brianna brought us a couple puppies which were the cutest, but the third guy we knew would be ours. She walked us through every step of the process, and helped pick out all necessary items we would have to take home. We walked out with the perfect puppy to complement our family, all necessary materials (food, cage, treats, supplements, toys, potty training materials, etc.), and knowledge of how to give our little guy the perfect home. Absolutely awful customer service! Wanted to know the asking price for a dog and they REFUSED to discuss the price unless/until you go there in person. I advised them that I am several hours away and needed to see how much before we drove all that way and was asked what do you want to spend? This is NOT a car I'm trying to purchase! Before I drive hours each way I need to know if we're in the same price range. I was informed that they needed to "show us in person" in order that we could fully appreciate the price! Absurd! Since posting this update, I was contacted by the owner of Racine Petland. At this point in time, they are offering to cover the cost of our puppy's neuter surgery. Assuming they follow through on this offer, I think it is more appropriate to label this situation as a misunderstanding as opposed to an intentional effort to deceive. For the moment, I am optimistic that things may work out as they should afterall. I will update this posting as additional details emerge. read more

We recently purchased a Shiba Inu puppy from this location. While there, the employee that worked with us was super attentive to our needs and questions. We were able to research the breeder that the puppy was listed as coming from and even found pictures of her 4 pup litter using our phones to research. She indeed came from a reputable AKC breeder, not a puppy mill. The only part of the experience that I did not like, was that they increase the price of the puppy to include all the things you need to take the puppy home. We have used most of the items but not all. We would've rather paid for just the puppy and chosen what items we truly will need and use. read more

Recently got a golden retriever pup here, and we had a great experience. The staff is very knowledgeable, and provided us with all the information of the breeder our pup came from. They explained that they are under new owners, and really took the time to get to know us and give us all the information needed to give our puppy the best life. Jessica was great! We first went into the store on Monday looking for just the right puppy. This location has a lot of adorable puppies but they didn't have "The One". Jessica asked me what my ideal dog would be and I told her an Alaskan Klee Kai. She said "no way....we are getting one in on Wednesday" Petland has never had one in their store before. It was fate. We set up an appointment for 5 on Wednesday. When we walked in Jessica was waiting for us. Needless to say, we went home with our new puppy. The puppies are definitely pricey so be be prepared, but after talking with Jessica and the owner, it was a done deal. We are very happy with our newest addition. read more

You can adopt a healthy pet from the shelter for little to no money. Here, they self an array of unhealthy dogs that will cost more then a down payment on a car. Many come from breeders that over breed and are untested for their health. You can get a pure bred akc dog for half the price with 5 star health for half the price. Don't come here, it's sad and depressing with dogs drinking out of giant guinea pig watering container. read more
