Miss Barb and I ventured out of our Old Montreal bubble to check out Petros based on a couple of trusted recommendations (one is a Greek national). HOLY SALT SHAKER, Batman! The food was quite good, but way over salted. They have a shaker of sea salt on the table just in case you want a little more... I love the decor of Petros: white and royal blue with some very nice looking paintings of Greek landscapes. We were warmly greeted and given an excellent table in the large dining space. Our host served double duty as our waiter and had several recommendations which we of course followed as it was our first visit. The small Greek Salad was enough for 4 good sized salad courses, I can't imagine what the large looks like. The veggies were incredibly fresh and vibrant! Really great dish. The recommended grilled octopus was good although the octopus was overpowered by the surrounding salad. I ordered the recommended lamb chops medium rare. They were served medium to medium well and were very salty. I ate one of the Greek potatoes but didn't have room for the rest of the sides (the lamb was very rich). Barb scaled back and ordered the appetizer crab cakes which were solid. Overall we really enjoyed our dinner but would likely prefer a grilled fish option to keep things a little more balanced. The Bring Your Own Wine was fun in fact most tables brought multiple bottles. That really kept the price down and I appreciate having that option, I wish more restaurants in Canada offered a corkage option. read more

I love Greek food but unfortunately due to bad service, loving my food was nearly impossible. Firstly, bread was brought then a young teenager who seemed uninterested to work (I think family forced him to help out), was bringing olive oil with balsamic. Two little trays, while he was setting one on the table, the other one on his other hand got poured all over my right side, on my white clothing due his imbalance. I was freaking out in my head, but I didn't get upset with the kid, you can see he is inexperienced and mistakes happen with anyone. (my friends thought I might get a discount or a free desert but nothing to compensate). Secondly, our main waiter came three or four times to retake our orders. One of my friend was hungry, but our food couldn't get ready yet since our orders straightened by the waiter. Finally, the orders have passed, and our food eventually arrived. Honestly, the food was average. For appetizers, I had oysters, which was good, then I had sea bass, I got almost three fish bones stuck in me, afterwards I had to eat slowly. I notified the waiter; he was very nonchalant old man. Thirdly, I had sparkling water, my glass was half full, another waiter shows up and dumps regular water in my glass, May I say, it was rough (some water splashed onto me). Fortunately, he replaced my water with the sparkling one, and then he went around the table to ask everyone, who has regular water, so he could fill up their glasses. Fourthly, my friend asked if she can replace her fries to Greek potatoes, the waiter said yes. She receives fries and potatoes. She notifies the waiter, and he said no worries, so we were under the impression she won't get charged. He did charge her, and when she told him about it. He argued that main dish comes with fries, but no substitution. Despite telling him about it before ordering it, he insisted that all main dish have fries. Either the waiter didn't understand or he is "dumbass ". So she paid for the fries and the Greek potatoes (she didn't even touch the fries). Pre Covid , I've been to the other locations and never had a bad experience and I was highly disappointed. The beginning of the night it was okay and the end of it was honestly disgusting. I'm going to start with the service review since I'm still disgusted by it a few days later . Day for supper : Saturday at 7pm Waiter: the Indian one that grew up in Dubai and if the owner of this branch needs a more specific detail, feel free to contact me . I got to the table earlier and the rest of the group ( 3 others ) got there late since they were coming from work) . I was given a bottle of sparkling water which was great. When we had decided to go for the tasting menu, we just had a few questions to ask and I was the one asking . We had to flag him down ( understandable since it is Saturday night), however I had mentioned I had multiple questions in regards to the menu , he literally walked away after answering one (?). I was confused since I know I said multiple but if he had to check on the kitchen for another table , he could have said that at least then come back ; but he didn't. Waiter barely checked up on us during the night and when we got the bill , we were confused. We had first of all asked the waiter to separate the oysters on 2 of the bills since only 2 of us had which he didn't do and when I had asked him, he acted as if it was his biggest inconvenience. Fast forward we paid & my friend and I went to the bathroom and the other 2 had asked about the menu price and why it was not advertised properly as other restaurants do and I'm not sure how it escalated from there but apparently the waiter couldn't wait to go to the kitchen and talk about clients there, but he did it on the restaurant floor loudly calling us idiots?? I'm sorry but if you're not happy with clients , go to the back , take a breather , or simply find something that makes you happy . Don't call people idiots , especially if you don't know them . Thankfully it was us and not someone influential , but RESPECT is key . Food For food: we got the tasting menu for minimum 4 people ( advertised as 65/ for whole menu and not 65/ per person). Cold platter : Pita with the 4 dips ( eggplant, bell pepper , fish eggs and tzatziki) . Delicious and great contrast for flavour Greek salad: should have been called more of a tomato salad. There were at least 4-6 Large tomatoes, no onion, 1/4 of a cucumber , 3 olives , 4 banana peppers (?), no green peppers and feta . The dressing was over saturated since it was at the bottom of the dish and not mixed with everything. Oysters : fresh and delicious Calamari and Petros special : the favourite of the whole table . Lamb chops: some were over done, others were delicious . Chicken: cooked perfectly Sea bass: was really cold when it arrived to our table, even though it was dressed in oregano and olive oil, it wasn't wow and cold fish wasn't helping . Loukoumades: warm , fresh and delicious . Would I go back : no, would not recommend this location either and would prefer going elsewhere rather than being disrespected by a waiter . read more

Went to the griffintown location, they have a few different location but this one is the biggest location When you go inside the restaurant is blue and the decor makes you feel like Greece. The waiter was pretty nice to us, but for some reason we didnt know that it was BYOB. And also when we were looking at the menu we saw that it said that for Friday and Saturdays each person needs to get 2 entrees or 1 main, or a 10$ fine would apply to your bill which I've never seen to any other restaurants that I have been. And a 2$ fee to open and recycle your bottle that you bring with you. We thought that was insane for a restaurant to have those kinda rules. We were 2 ppl and we ended up ordering a few stuff, the calamari, the grilled octopus, the Greek salad and also the mezze dips. They were all so good, my favourite was the grilled octopus and the Greek salad. The calamari was good was it was abitt salty. The service was really good. When we got there it was full house. As the tables got empty our waiter gave us a bigger table which was nice because the table we had was small. The waiter checked on us a few times to see if everything was okay, and also have us loukoumades on the house, the loukoumades were okay not the greatest. Bring your posse and your wine! Portions/menu are great for 4+. My sea bass (for one $40) had to be some of the best cooked and fantastic flavors prepared with oil and capers. My partner's pork chop was flavorful, but slightly overcooked and a bit tough. Grilled veggies were also a high point, amazing how olive oil and sea salt with a proper flame bring out wonderful flavors in food. Salt, yeah, the reviews are accurate, things tends to be bit too salty here. To try a bunch of things, the Pikilia was perfect. We went there as a work team Christmas get together, on a Saturday evening at 5pm. For the rotation of the place, we had our group table until 8pm, which is about the time we were done. I took the half chicken with fries. The good: Service was good as our waiter checked often on us. Glasses of water were often filled up. Bathroom are spacious and clean. Servers opens your bottles of wine and bring ice buckets. The bad: My chicken were full of little bones. Now l do not mind bones that l can see, but some of them were so small l felt them hitting my teeth in a way that they could have broken them. What if l swallowed them? This was a huge turn off. Also, when l arrived, l waited a good 10 minutes at the door until someone came over to greet me. It was 5pm when l arrived, so l guess they were too busy preparing the evening. I read one of the previous reviews and considered not going to this restaurant. I'm so glad I went. I had a much better experience. I'm a seafood reporter and was in Montreal for a seafood conference. I'm not a food critic but follow the business and policy of seafood. And I am also a big seafood fan. The Mediterranean Sea bass at Petros was presented beautifully and also quite savory. Spanakopita was perfect. And the Lima beans in a red sauce were so sweet. One of my best meals in Montreal! The ambiance is very good. The swordfish and the red snapper fresh and delicious but too salty. Next to the fish, you get 1/4th of a medium potato and an even smaller piece of broccoli. 32$. For a Greek restaurant, it lacks sides. Especially vegetables. There's all sort of delicious looking veg entrees, but I think that next time if I want a hungry person's size dish and quality, I will go to Panos. I didn't dislike my experience but I can't eat a piece of meat by itself, got tired of the oversalty thing and gave the rest to my still very hungry friend. read more

The are a plethora of Greek restaurants in Montreal owing to the City's large and vibrant Greek population ( the word Plethora derives from a Greek root meaning fullness). We happen to pass by the Le Petros which is located on one of the least busiest parts of Blvd Notre Dame. Although there were no Yelps we decided to give it a try. Most Greek restaurants -that are not Souvlaki Joints- have very similar menus so how does one differentiate among them? For me it comes down to atmosphere, food quality, and value. Petros has a nice atmosphere. It's a very small dining space, maybe 40 seats, that is reminiscent of the Greek homeland without being overly sentimental or touristy. And unlike many of the more expensive Greek restaurants in town there were no white table cloths. As we were seated we thought might have come across a a "real find". The offerings of Le Petros were posted on a big blackboard where we found a nice selection of the usual Greek menu items. We were somewhat surprised that the prices for the main courses were very high. The lowest item was $38 for Greek chicken and some of the seafood items were in the $50 range. There was however a notice on the blackboard that for $15 you can share your plates. Despite the menu being somewhat confusing and the waiter not very effective in explaining all the options, we managed to order a nice meal consisting of a Greek salad, a fine plate of Greek dip's and toasted pita bread which included colorfully tasty Taramosalta, Red Pepper Feta , Egglplant, and Tzaziki. Our main plate of grilled Swordfish was served with a nice array of string beans and roasted potatoes. The fish was very fresh and expertly cooked and it was just enough for the two of us to share. A complimentary plate of some tastes of desserts was brought to the table and was a nice touch. If you have a big appetite or you are a power eater you would need to order another main dish. That is for one per person to walk out with a real feeling of fullness. The service was friendly enough although a little bit out of step which was surprising because it was a Sunday night and there were only eight people in the room. Its an open kitchen and the staff seemed pre-occupied by their smartphones. So bottom line is there isn't enough difference here to place Le Petros anywhere out of the ordinary and you may as well go to go to one of fancier "white table cloth" Greek restaurants where you'll pay about the same. read more

I'm sure under different circumstances this would have been an enjoyable evening out. However, it seems that this evening wasn't destined for greatness. 1st - The location: We made our reservation on Open Table. Unfortunately, the restaurant has not updated its address or phone number. Not on Open Table. Not on their own website. Not on Yelp. Not anywhere It is no longer on Notre-Dame; it's on William. 1613 William, in case you are wondering. It would have been nice to know this information before sharing getting to the restaurant only to find it shuttered. Of course, the phone number is also out of service, so we couldn't call them to ask where they had moved to. Fortunately, the phones still work at the other locations. Of course, William street is a construction nightmare, but that's not the restaurant's fault. 2nd - The service The evening started off rather promising. I think three different people stopped by our table of 6 to offer suggestions fill our water glasses and take our order. So far so good. Of course, from that point on, service slowed to a crawl. Don't get me wrong, I expect a good restaurant meal to take time. I have no objection to being in a restaurant for 2 hours or more. However, I don't expect to have to search for the wait staff and hope that someone will remember that we are still sitting at our table. By the end of the evening, the waiter brought our menu for coffee and dessert and vanished. We gave up on waiting, and eventually someone got up to ask for the cheque. 3rd - The noise This review is probably a little tainted by the screaming headache I currently have. Someone thought it would be a genius idea to rent out two thirds of the dining room to a private party complete with DJ and full sound system with massive speakers, while relegated the remaining "regular diners" to the back third of the room. I suspect they don't understand how sound travels because while high ceilings and exposed beams look cool, there was exactly nothing to dampen the sound. I have been to heavy metal concerts that were less damaging to my hearing. The excuse that "it's the holidays" is completely ridiculous. It was virtually impossible to have a conversation with the people at my table. In the end, I only spoke to the person sitting directly beside me. We gave up on trying to speak to each other even across the table. My ears are literally still ringing. If they wanted to rent out the restaurant for a party, they should have informed the other patrons at the time of their reservation. We would have booked a table elsewhere. 4th - The food I love Greek food. From grilled octopus to fried zucchini to perfectly prepared fish and meat, Greek food is awesome. The waiter took the time to describe the red snapper to us in great detail, and then informed us that they didn't have any when we ordered it. Fortunately, the food we did get was quite good. The friend to my left had the grilled salmon. I had the lamb chops. My partner had the swordfish. Another friend had the Mediterranean bass. I can't remember what the other two people had. Everyone seemed satisfied. It wasn't the best Greek we've had in the city (I think Faros will always hold a special place in my heart), but it was better than average. We had fried zucchini, spanakopita, crab cakes, grilled octopus, and grilled calamari as appetizers. They were probably my favourite part of the evening. We didn't have coffee or dessert because, as I said, they never came back to take that order, but they did inform us that they would only be serving drip coffee. No espresso beverages or Greek coffee was on the menu this evening. I'm half deaf and hoarse now from trying to hear and speak over the cacophonous din. It's just as well that we couldn't have coffee and dessert or I would probably be bleeding out of my ears by now. I'm sure this would be a perfectly fine restaurant to go to on a typical night. However, make sure you find out if the circus is in town before you book a table. You may have your evening ruined by staff who seem to have no consideration for those of us who came to actually dine, not listen K-Tel's best of generic office party/wedding music at a volume loud enough to wake the dead. read more

It was a beautiful day so we wanted to sit outside on the terrace. Location is great in Wsmnt. We arrived and was seated immediately outside. I loved how they brought us toasted crusty bread with oil and balsamic, yummy! We had a few starters , Greek salad which was refreshing. Really can't go wrong with that but the Tzatziki was quite bland. As for my main meal I had the Pork souvlaki, it was over cooked and dry! The wait time from the starters to the main meal was much to long. It took about 20-25 minutes to wait for my main meal which by then I was not hungry anymore! The best that can be said for Petros is that eating there is like a comedy skit. There were 4 of us for dinner. Our waiter brought me the wrong appetizer, then argued with the 4 of us at the table saying we had made a mistake. Then he forgot my main course and again argued that the mistake was ours. Of the 2 main course orders for lamb, both were overcooked, even though our erstwhile server had asked how we wanted them cooked. It may be useful for this guy to carry a pencil and pad to take orders as he seems unable to remember what guests actually want. The best part of our meal was the charcoal toasted bread , green olives and oil served at the outset. With the one missing main course, dinner , ordered for 4, and delivered for 3, was $165 ( ( would have been over $200 if we had gotten what we ordered.) Neither the only average quality of the food nor the absurdly poor service justify such prices. We will never return. read more

Well this site is a lot better than the crap site OPENTABLE. Anyhow my review on this restaurant is...find another restaurant. Way over priced and service leads to be desired. They are in a hurry to rush you out and clear plates out from under yer nose at super fast speed before you're even done with it. "Bring your own wine and we take care of the rest??" Ya they take care of you: They charge to open a bottle of wine. REALLY??? As for prices? I ordered a Moussaka. Was prepared ok but lacked in flavour but for $22 u would expect a little more! No salad, no vegetable, no side dish of ANY KIND whatsoever. Order a refill on bread and we had to ask 3 times. Not once during the night did they come to refill our water glasses until we asked finally. Fast service? Ya fast with the bill when it came to rush us out. 5 people with a bill roughly around $150 to $175. They had some wall hooks for coats and barely enuf for the crowd there. The tables didn't even have some kind of table cloth or place mat. When I came to pay the waiter practically had his nose in my face while I punched in the info for paying on the portable ATM.
