This store keeps animals in deplorable conditions. Puppies are miserable and sit in their own feces, animals are denied water. These are things I've witnessed with my own eyes. This store needs to stop selling live animals immediately. I will be documenting and reporting to authorities. read more

I went into the store because a friend had gotten two puppies that the store convinced them to keep together and was giving one to me. The store told him to have me come in and fill out some papers. They made me fill out the application and handed me the paperwork and sent me on my way saying I would receive an email with info about changing the microchip. I have still not received and email and when I called they did not know where my application was. They do not care who has these puppies and had a whole bunch of puppies in a caged area in their own poop and pee. This is definitely not an adoption shelter, they get the puppies from puppy mills. My poor baby had barely any info on her paperwork but what it did say was that she was born March 12th and arrived at the "shelter" in April so was taken way too soon from her mother. The paperwork also states she came from Georgia in a shipment of 33 dogs! If I could rescue all the puppies I would. This place needs shut down! read more

My daughter purchased a bunny from here just before Thanksgiving. It died within 3 days. They did replace it, however a month later, same thing. We are experienced rabbit owners and it's quite upsetting to know they sell sick bunnies. Neither of these little guys ever had a fighting chance. I called Pets Plus to discuss food options and an employee named Jamie answered. She seemed very courteous, knowledgeable and passionate about her job. She was patient enough to go over various options with me regarding foods that my dog could better tolerate and that would also improve his coat. Later that day my granddaughter, eldest daughter, dog and I stopped by the store to pick up the dog food Jamie suggested. We had the opportunity to meet and speak with Jamie further. We were impressed with her phenomenal customer service, professionalism and overall positive attitude. We enjoyed seeing and playing with the puppies and kittens. If Pets Plus ever had events where they reduced their adoption fees to about half of what they normally charge, we would probably adopt a puppy from them. read more

Pet Plus is the worst pet store ever. I ordered cat food online through online ordering I went to the store and asked if they had any other flavors because my cats only like the one specific bag. I thought the customer was always right but not here some girl named Melissa was so rude and unhelpful just because I asked if they had any other recipes. I've heard horrible stories about this place including animals well being and I sure have seen this first hand. The dogs in the back beg for attention and even water there conditions are terrible because they clearly don't give a shit about animals wellbeing. Im not even gonna mention the reptiles. Its sad to say it but I would not recommend this place to anyone especially if you love animals. I feel so badly for all the animals here. They are way over priced, always look sick, left in cages that are dirty and smell. The staff is rude to customers and very uneducated and the animals in general. When you try to speak to anyone they just brush you off and act like your stupid. I've been to a few locations and they were all dirty, unorganized, and short staffed. Today I went to the Lansdale location and it will be my last time. They never have price tags with the items so you never know what the price is, literally 80% of the store doesn't have price tags and the items that do have price tags have inaccurate prices. Is it seriously that hard to price everything in the store? I seriously think they don't price anything in hoping of taking advantage of customers that don't know how high the prices are. Example a bag of treats they sell for $12.99 the store down the road sells for $5.99. It's insane what this store marks up. The fish supply section is a mess and sell everything 3x more then everywhere else. The shelves are bare with hardly ever anything in stock. It's rare when they actually have my food in stock, as a well popular brand as Earthborn. To top everything off they have the most rude employees I've have ever dealt with. They can't answer any questions because they are not knowledgeable on the products they carry. I ask for help with getting fish from the tanks and receive a attitude back because apparently it's an inconvenience to help customers. It took over 20 minutes to actually find someone that was willing to help me get fish from the tanks. Don't get me wrong, not every employee at the Lansdale location is bad but most of them are horrible. The manager on duty does not care about the store employees or of its customers. Someone who is willing to spend money and waiting for assistance with fish to be told I'm too busy to help. That's fine, I'll take my money elsewhere and drive the extra few miles to another store that actually cares about the customers. I'll spend my money locally next time with Dogs and Cats Rule that will go out of there way to make the customers happy. The drive is well worth it after today's visit at Pets Plus. I should of learned from the past and stopped shopping here a long time ago. I'll be sure friends, family, and anyone with pets knows how I truly think of this store. Two weeks ago I noticed a cichlid labeled as a Tetra, I asked the manager on duty and he tells me he was certain it was a Tetra. Anyone who knows fish they look totally different. It's like labeling a pit bull as a chihuahua. You will want to stay away from this place. Fish I have purchased from here had Ich and passed the parasite to my other fish and killed them. My fish were healthy and I've had them for 5+ years. A week later after adding a new fish to my tank all the fish I've had developed signs of Ich and died 24 hours later. HORRIBLE customer service!!!! On Tuesday I went to pets plus to find primal food for my dog bailey. When the lady asked if I needed help I explained to her what I was looking for and explained how my dog is a picky eater, she then told me to try verus and was really pushing that on me and said she guarantees he'll love it if not bring it back in and I'll get a full refund for it. Told me 5 times to make sure I don't lose my receipt! So this morning I called at 9:57 am and double checked and the girl who answered also said that it was fine. So I drove 40 mins there to return this expensive dog food for the extremely rude cashier with short gray hair to tell me they can't do it. She then got the store manager Jamie who claims there is nobody higher than her to speak to and said she wouldn't do it after I explained that I was told it was okay even showed her my call log from when I called this morning. You seriously think I would drive 40 mins out there for nothing? So I called the pets plus in Norristown and that kind gentleman said bring it here and I'll refund your money. When I got there he asked who told me that they weren't allowed to take it back. I said Jamie, he said he'll be calling over there and having a word with her about pets plus policies he's never heard of such a thing and she needs to be updated on her information. So for those of you that need to return dog food don't listen to their bull crap when they say they can't. They need to hire some new employees who give a crap they're all miserable seem lazy and just don't know what they are talking about. This store reminded me of a pet version of a Walmart. Horrible place..... most certainly don't recommend going there!!!! I adopted my dog from pet plus location in Bensalem PA and was told to come to this locAtion for spaying procedure. After getting spayed, my dog was brought home and a day later her incision was open. The surgical clinic took 2 days to response so i have to bring my pet to my local vet. I was told that their surgical technique is poorly performed and the medication given was incorrect dosage. When I talked to the people in pet plus vet clinic, I was told they have no emergency number to contact and no emergency clinic I can take my pet to. I was quite upset. Being in the medical field, I can't imagine performing a surgery and then not being responsible for the complications after. My dog is very important to me and she is like a family member. I think at least they would have a referral in case something like this happen. But instead they just kinda tell me the procedure is done so they can't see my pet for the complication from the procedure they perform. How ridiculous is that? Imagine if you have surgery done and then your incision open and you call your surgeon and they said to just go to your local doctor because they can't see you. That's just horrible. I just wanna share my experience So if you ever Bring your dog here to spay or neuter, I wish you luck because if anything happens to your dog, they will not be helpful at all. read more

TL;DR? Avoid the stocky, short-haired brunette. She will try to force you to buy the entire store. She doesn't give a hoot about the well-being of your pet. I made the mistake of adopting a puppy here. She cost $495 and had almost no paperwork from the rescue organization. The short-haired brunette refused to let us leave without buying a bunch of stuff I did not want, tried to protest against, and was ignored. I spent a total of $800 just to get away from her. She was extremely pushy and completely ignored anything I had to say. We practically fought over the collar and leash I chose. She kept trying to fit the puppy into harnesses that were too big or too small. For over half an hour. It was beyond frustrating. I was so angry by the time I finally got to leave. This place needs to be shut down. As soon as I walked through the door, I could smell that they aren't keeping up with cleaning for the animals they have there. There is this one cat that seems to be an adolescent, crammed in this tiny cage that is placed right next to all of the dogs. The cat was crying, and the lady at the register said its been doing that all day, as if it were a bother to her! The thing is basically in a prison, and can't possibly relax being next to loud dogs & constant activity, so of course its upset! The whole place just didn't feel right at all. I've been to plenty of places that have cats, dogs, etc and this is just different, in a bad way. So it's not bad enough that they sell puppies here, right?? The staff here is always just so damn rude! They smile at you when you're checking out but that's it. Otherwise they are generally rude, unhelpful, and I've had more than one sneer at me for no reason at all. Today was my breaking point. This morning I saw a uromastyx that we had seen in early March with crickets in the cage. These guys are herbivores and don't eat crickets at all. I have a healthy three year-old here at home so I am very aware of their care and health. The lizard at the store was in the wrong bedding and being fed the wrong food. We both rolled our eyes and figured that he would be in a new home soon. To my surprise this morning the uromastyx was still here. The poor thing was absolutely emaciated. It was so flat with all the loose skin sagging and I could see it barely breathing. I went back with my boyfriend when he got home from work to try to haggle with them about it. We found out he had been there six months and was being fed crickets and dandylion leaves. Even when we pointed out how emaciated and discolored he was, along with how long he had been there the employees STILL just laughed in our faces and had absolutely NO remorse about the animal's condition. They absolutely would not take a price lower than their current sale. Even if it means the lizard will likely die there starving to death. read more

our family had to say goodbye to our beloved cat around thanksgiving. my friend took me to this store that she frequented for food and supplies. we played with kittens and each picked one and were surprised when we couldn't bring them home as they hadn't even been checked by the vet. so we put down our deposit and we're told we could come visit them whenever we'd like. i live nowhere near lansdale so couldn't make it that often, thinking only a week would go by before they told me i could bring her home. we visited once. then my son visited and was told that she had gotten spayed and couldn't come out. my friend, who lives closer, visited more often but my kitten was very sick. nobody called me. the vet didn't show when he was supposed to. i found out she wasn't spayed but in quarantine. the information given kept changing as well as the day to pick her up. my friend took her kitten home but mine was still there. i felt very uneasy about the whole thing; something wasn't sitting right. the last thing i could deal with was saying goodbye to another pet. my friend's kitten ended up at my friend's vet and died...only a week after they brought her home. they're still not able to quite figure out what happened. they also spent a few thousand dollars trying to save her. the owner of the store had turned a blind eye and offered her another kitten. but she now has my kitten as i have a senior cat at home and couldn't risk the illness. always go with your gut. our experience was not good. plus the store is packed and people (and employees) wear their masks under their nose if at all. i found a beautiful and extremely healthy kitten elsewhere from a shelter that was a joy to work with. the experience was day and night. read more

The store is cool, never had a problem with anyone I love that they have animals for sale/adoption....THE GROOMER is another story...dropped of my long hair cat in for service to eliminate shedding...they called in in about n hr to come pick him up...upon arrival the groomer had the manager come out to speak to me n inform me that my cat was aggressive during the session n next time he needs to be sedated!!! BUT they " groomed " him this one time anyways ...his belly was buzzed...hind legs shaved to the skin...unevenly trimmed fur!!! I didnt even feel like discussing anything with them as I knew they are too dumb to even understand . I have avoided setting foot in the Lansdale store because of the puppy/kitten mill reputation. I was on my way home the other day, and realized I needed cat food, and was not near a grocery store. So I reluctantly went in. Firstly, the store smelled of a mix of pet shampoo and poo, so badly that the odor clung to me long after I left. I petted a kitten in a crate that held about a dozen or more kittens, enough room to eat, sleep, and use the litterbox but no way enough room to exercise. Another crate on the floor had one nursing mom cat, who looked depressed and ignored me, and two babies. When I paid for my cat food, I asked the teenage cashier what the kitten adoption fee was. She glanced over at a glum potato-faced older woman, who must have been her superior, who answered "$199.99". I asked if that included neutering and vaccinations, and she said "yes". No details, nothing more than one-word answers, nothing. I have a co-worker who wants to adopt two kittens, so I wanted to know. Also, I work retail and these people had no customer service skills whatsoever. All kittens are adorable, and I shudder to think what will happen to those kittens when people won't pay 200 bucks for a DSH kitten. Go to the SPCA and get one for 25 bucks. read more

I would first like to say that the staff here is friendly and professional. It pains me to have to rate this store so lowly, but I must. About two months ago my children finally got what they wanted... a pet. A perfect little kitten with a perfect disposition. About three weeks into having our wonderful little kitten, we discovered that he has feline ringworm. Hundreds and hundreds of dollars later, and after vacuuming the entirety of our home as well as laundering every stitch of fabric, he had to be quarantined in our powder room for a month. He's only brought out to be given a bath and a pill. Their answer is they'd talk to the breeder and have them call me. Never happened. I would never recommend anyone to this pet store. When you start to feel uneasy about the decision to "adopt" from here, just walk away. It started off feeling like this was the best decision...to "adopt" a dog ($600). Then the good deed started to feel like a swindle transaction.....I was told, "you HAVE TO buy The Biggest Bag of food from us, not the small bag, and NO we don't send the dogs home with courtesy food, and oh, you HAVE TO buy these can foods also, and oh, our harness, our leash, our collar, and our vitamins, and our puppy pads, and so on and so on"......"but we have no guarantee on this puppy's health once you leave our store because we have no idea where he came from, and we do a minimal health check with the dogs". An adopted "rescue dog" who supposedly came from "a down south kill shelter", so they say, was turning into something totally different, and that uneasy feeling crept in. I understand this place need to make money but when the conversation becomes, "oh, and YOU HAVE TO BUY All Of These Things from "US" BEFORE we let you leave the store, uhm, yea, no thank you.....I responded uhm ok, I will buy your food, but I'm not interested in your collar, harness, or leash, as I would like to later purchase better quality items, but let me run next door to the dollar store to buy those things, just so I can carry the little 6 lb or so guy out of your store"....they proceeded to say "you have to buy them from here"......same items as the dollar store, just uber overpriced! I clearly felt the deceit and swindle approaching....I mean, this place is not the best kept for animals, and their "mandated" sales tactics are horrible. I got out of there wishing the next buyer and the little pup much love! I will adopt elsewhere. It's not about the money, because that I have, it's the principle in what the heck is going on here when a rescue dog adoption begins to feel like a breeder/buyer transaction and the cost hikes to nearly $1000. I'm not one to ever bad mouth a business, but this place deserves every negative connotation associated with it. The conditions are disgusting, as said in so many other reviews written by people who were undoubtedly ripped off by whoever is running this hell hole. I have been searching for a dog for some time now, and happened to stop into Pets Plus. The overwhelming smell of feces more or less smacks you in the face before you cross the doorway. I did, however, find a pup who I really wanted to take home after filling out the paperwork. He wasn't in the main rooms where the other dogs are crammed into, and he was instead in a crate that sat near the entrance to the place. When I asked to see him and meet him outside the cage, the moron who was "working" drug him by the collar, and was pretty reluctant to even do so much as crack a smile let alone make any semblance of conversation or be kind to the poor dog. Regardless of this, Lucky and I hit it off, and after filling out the paperwork, I said I'd be back the following Monday to take him home. The weekend went by and I returned to see all three crates that held lucky and two others were no where to be found.When I asked where he was, the girl working paused and said, "he went to another home." Needless to say I have my doubts that all three dogs were adopted Within three days after waiting at the store for months in 3x3 crates, but it's a better thought than the alternative, which would be heinous considering I had every intention of taking him home. All in all, this place is a complete joke, and should be shut down as quickly as possible, or at least should be entirely restaffed. read more

I just adopted a dog from there on Friday and by Saturday afternoon he was sluggish, vomiting, and had diarrihia (spelled wrong ). I took him to the vet, costing me another $400. He still isn't getting better, so now I have to take him to the vet to be admitted, which will probably cost quite a few hundred dollars. Very Pissed !!! read more

When I went in today, the dogs in the windows were walking around in their own feces it was absolutely dreadful. They need to spend more time cleaning up the cages and making the animals' surroundings more homely for them. Because of their livings conditions, the animals normally don't smell very delightful and they are normally not playful and enthusiastic, also caused by the drugs they slip into their food. This is the dirtiest pet store I have ever been in. The animals appear to be getting sub standard care. Every single time I go in,the dogs are surrounded in pee and feces. They have the audacity to ask for 500$ for these puppy mill puppies. Oh yes "the rescue dogs", I want to rescue them all from Pets Plus. I can't believe that have not been shut down. The employees are rude and unprofessional. I paid for a puppy and the day I was suppose to pick it up, the puppy was in the hospital. I decided I did not want to purchase a very sick puppy. The place smells as soon as you walk through the door. They sell puppies for $500 and call it an adoption. That doesn't mean they are rescued from shelters. That just means you get to pay $500 for a dog. You can go to any local shelter and adopt true rescues for $150 or less. Notice that they never have adult dogs....only puppies and kittens.if they were truly in the business of helping animals, you would see cats, dogs and other adult pets. We purchased an easy pull deluxe collar on sale several weeks ago and it did not fit. We came into the store within the 14 day return period to return it. At that time we were told hold onto it because Pets Plus would order the size we needed and contact us within a few days. I was never contacted so I returned to the store a week an a half later. A deluxe collar was not in stock. I'm not sure if it was even ordered. When I asked to return the original I was told it was past the 14 day period and could only receive in store credit. When I explained it is only past that time because the store was supposed to order a replacement I was told it is company policy. The manager had an attitude and did not even listen to the explanation. "In store credit only!" How ridiculous considering the circumstances. Now I am stuck with the standard easy pull collar at full cost. Not the type of service a repeat customer would expect. I will be taking my business to another pet store. read more

This store is disgusting. They do NOT know how to care for animals. The ball python's cage did not have any humidity or enough heat. The snake was laying out and shedding terribly, which is not normal or healthy. One of the bearded dragons had no water. One of the kittens' eyes was leaking and the rest of the cats were not playful or happy looking. The dogs are kept in areas that are way too small for their size and their food was all over the floor. These people do not care about the well being of their animals and they need to be shut down. There is always someone willing to help me carry out my large bag of dog food or my kitty litter. I really appreciate not having to hunt for someone to help me out. I LOVE this store because they are deeply involved in rescuing and rehabilitating dogs who would otherwise be dead. This store works with the Humane Society of Pennsylvania and the SPCA and such groups to save HUNDREDS upon HUNDREDS of lives. Four of the Pets Plus stores are now entirely saving and re-homing such dogs, NOT getting them from puppy mills. It's the wave of the future and this store is riding it. Negative reviewers don't know what's really going on here. They need to do some research and learn the truth. Call the Humane Society of Pennsylvania. Call the SPCA. Find out where else the puppies come from and call there! Frequent this store and ask more questions. BE THERE when the pups come in and find out how hard everyone works. Learn the truth! Having three cats and two dogs and occasionally rescuing animals myself, I'm in this store at least once a week. I've been in the store on a Sunday when the transports have dropped off puppies. At times like that, the stench can be overwhelming. Yes. It can smell like a zoo. It can smell worse than a zoo. At times like that they've had to open the doors even in winter to air the place out. Once everyone is clean and smelling good, the place doesn't stink anymore. The thing to consider is that these poor pups come from such horrific situations. Saving lives is dirty, stinky work! I was there when the owner came in with her kids because they had accepted a litter of beagle puppies that had been saved by someone (I think it was a veterinarian in Tennessee) because someone was going to use them for target practice. Yeah. For real! They were going to shoot these puppies dead. Now all those pups have homes. Just think about that Puppies are kept together in four display rooms. They are not in cages. I've watched them romp and play together and sleep together in a heap. Yeah, sure, they poop in those rooms and it can quickly get everywhere. But the staff gets on top of that and cleans the pup as well as the rooms. Would you rather they be alone in cages with wire mesh floors so their poop falls in the tray below just so it can be easier on the staff? I think not! As for the staff, they work HARD to clean, vet , train, love and find good homes for the pups. These pups are often traumatized, malnourished and have bad habits. Have you any idea how much work it takes to make them feel safe and loved and bring them back to health? If the staff looks a bit disheveled at times (which I haven't noticed but the accusation was made by some reviewers) it's only because they are working so hard. Taking care of lots and lots of rescued pups isn't easy work. They are constantly cleaning up after the pups and caring for them. As busy as they are, the staff have always been friendly and helpful to me as well as my dogs. They take personal interest in watching the progress of my two rescue dogs as their behaviors have improved and their personalities have emerged. I've never known the staff to be anything but attentive, hard working and helpful. I also have no clue what the one person meant by saying the store isn't organized. That's simply not the case. Maybe that reviewer is referring to another store. It's well, stocked with high quality foods, treats and supplies. I feed my dogs and cats Annamaet food and a variety or treats. This store also sells fresh growing greens for the health and enjoyment of indoor cats. You can't get those everywhere. My kitties love when I bring those home! I've never been disappointed because this store didn't have what I needed. I would give this place a five star rating if they would add a self-serve dog bathing area. I'm sure they don't have room for it. Oh well. Yeah. I'm not an easy sell. But I know what's good. I love this place and I'm going to do all I can to spread the word that they rescue animals. read more

I don't know about all this diss on Pet Plus in Lansdale but, my experience was fabulous! The place was super clean, the dogs were all happy and the pens were clean. I found the best dog I have ever owned and this is 4 months later I'm writing this. I was shocked with these 1 star reviews. I think you all are a bunch of pansies! My dog is healthy and was very well treated. They even shampooed him for us. He was the happiest dog then and is now and quite intelligent as well. The best puppy ever and the folks at Pets Plus were wonderful and the dogs loved and trusted them and like I said before, they were all HAPPY! NOT UNCLEAN AND SICK. I just don't understand all this bs. Sounds like a ploy to me after my experience there. All papers were in order and I got the background on why my pup was there. They were so happy we were happy.
