Last year I took my Maine Coon cat to be groomed at petsmart by a women named Lynette. She did an awesome job. It took her 3 hours to bathe, comb, and cut his nails. He is very hairy. She is no longer there, so I thought I would give them a shot. I had this woman who bathed, combed, and cut his nails in 1.5 hours. When I went to pick him up, he was still wet. She told me she could not finish drying him because a dog made him nervous, and he kept trying to jump off the table. I asked if she got the matted areas on his chest. She claimed to me that she did not see any matting. This is the whole reason I took him there. When I got home, he was so skittish and wet that the matting was still on his chest. I called the manager, Joe, and explained my concerns. He was kind enough to return my fee. I will never go back there again!!! read more

I rarely write reviews, but my experience has been bothering me for months. I took my dog Coco to PetSmart for grooming, as I have since she was a puppy. However, the last time I brought her in, she came back smelling like a dirty dog and with an awful haircut. I immediately returned to have the cut fixed, but even after paying over $110 (including tip), it still looked terrible. A week later, Coco developed blotches all over her body. The vet informed me that she hadn't been dried properly, which irritated her skin. This resulted in a $300+ vet bill and the need for special shampoo to wash her once a week. I called PetSmart to explain the situation and was told to bring her in for a complimentary shampoo. When I picked her up, they admitted the haircut was bad and re-cut her, but they still charged me $50 for the shampoo. This was after I had already tipped $30, thinking the shampoo was free. In total, this mistake cost me over $400 I've since taken Coco elsewhere and have been very happy with the service. I will never go back to PetSmart. I would love to give them -5 stars, but they don't offer that option. read more

Zero Stars. My puppy was badly and permanently injured 10/18/22. Careless, unskilled "groomer/mgr" caused damage seen in 2 photos below. Please read the company history BEFORE you subject your pet to this degree of pain, trauma, permanent injury, or death (links below). Both my dog and her new dog owner were traumatized. I'm left with all the damage done and the constant effort required to desensitize my traumatized dog. Petsmart behaved inappropriately/unacceptably post injury. Lynette/ "groomer", took no ownership and claimed to know nothing about it. How is it possible to not know she pushed a claw clip through a 4 lb dog's freshly bleeding scalp? This is all about money. High volume business w/quotas to fill for max $ to the detriment of vulnerable animals. It's criminal. Company response was apathetic, lazy, ignorant, unresponsive. I informed them. Delay delay delay. All sounded clueless about this injury and how to respond professionally and responsibly. I called at least 6 people at corporate. Vet reported groom injury /cause was obvious. Asked to share irrefutable proof/photos, $300 vet bill and provide free access to contact my vet and maybe you'll be repaid for vet bill. That was all at my own expense, time, energy, effort to get response. They demand every detail after causing permanent trauma, fear of groomer, permanent damage to her scalp and hair follicles (4 lb tiny scalp). Defenseless animals deserve qualified people who care and are not this stupid. Their history of injury and deaths is the cause of a law devised to protect pets from their own inferior care standards. They over-book for volume/money to the detriment of animals. I thought Lynette cared about my dog. I interviewed her early on. I made a judgement call to trust in this human being. She never contacted me after learning of injury she caused. No explanation, no apology. Inexcusable. My dog's once thick head of hair could not have been penetrated by plastic prongs without having had intense pressure applied to penetrate her tiny scalp. Vet shaved area to allow wound to be treated (topical pain relief and daily pain meds at 4 hr intervals requiring 2 injections. See photos. Ask yourself how anyone could not know of the pain she caused my dog. My dog yelps if hurt. This person has no credibility. I could not get close to her head due to dog's reaction so my dog was in pain unnecessarily for days until vet saw her. Groomer had a responsibility to inform as she required emergency care. I called Groomer immediately upon return home as I saw such a dramatic behavior change. Groomer said nothing happened. I believed her because I used to trust her. My error in judgement will permanently haunt me because I have the reminder of it everyday now. My dog is a puppy. Two vet techs had to hold my dog down to remove the clip from her scalp as she was in severe pain. This "groomer" has proven Inhumane, classless, unprofessional, careless, and dishonest. Every groomer and pet owner who see my photos are horrified. This review is for PetSmart as well as Banfield Pet Hospital located inside. While I fully understand that the two are not entirely responsible for one another, both failed us completely. We brought our dog in to get groomed at 1:30 but by 4:00 we received a call that he was kept in a cage that he had scratched at and now he was bleeding "worse than the technician had seen before". Our dog loves his crate, he lays in it all day long and when he does scratch, if he gets excited, he never bleeds. So, what was poking out of this cage that allowed our dog to get hurt and, for that matter, why was our dog alone for long enough to get hurt? The groomer takes him to the Banfield pet hospital located inside and after about an hour a vet comes in to speak with me. It is 5:00, they are about to close, but before they do, they show me the hole in our dog's paw, which was not only gruesome, but dangerous. Yet, the vet insists that he will be fine to wait for stitches until the morning and that the antibiotics would be enough. By the time we got home the booties that we were given to protect his feet were filled with blood. We had to take him to an emergency hospital. We took our dog in to be groomed and he ended up with a cone and two mini casts for two weeks. Yes. they reimbursed us for the vet visit, but that does not take away from the fact that not only did they put him in danger while at the groomer, but that the vet at Banfield would rather go home than make sure that his patients are taken care of. The night infrared light for my snakes burnt out of course a half hour before close, it never fails. This location is the closest PetSmart to my house so I hurry up over there instead of going to the Moorestown store I normally do and while I'm there buying extra back-up lights and bedding that was on sale i remember i used the last rat at last feeding. But this location doesn't carry any size frozen rats. They already have no live snake food and this location only carries up to large mice? What do they think they eat once they are fully grown?! After being told it would be a pick up/drop off appointment my family and I were already hesitant as we do not like the idea leaving our dog locked up for hours and hours. To our expectations our dog was dropped off at 9:00 am and we did not hear any updates let alone a phone call to let us know he was ready to be checked out. I took it upon myself to show up and request an update on my dog and then suddenly "he was ready to be checked out" (2:00 pm). TERRIBLE! All to be given a exam report that had nothing to do with the reason why we brought the dog in. They didn't even make note of what was said over the phone call but insisted he didn't need further care on paper? How unprofessional! Not to mention immediately as I brought my dog out he used the bathroom as if he had been holding it since 9:00 am and panting in dehydration as I assume no water was even given to him. Guarantee they did not take any dogs to use the restroom while they are behind waiting to be seen. When I go into pet stores, I avoid the live animal area completely (it makes me sad). As a result, this review will only be for the retail aspect of the store. This PetSmart was clean, which is not something I can find at pet stores in Philly. There also seemed to be an abundance of people willing to help us find what we needed. Almost too many, it seemed. Sometimes you just need to breathe! At any rate, they have lots of options for pet food and no shortage of toys for your beloved animal(s). They also had the Thunder Shirt, which I had wrongfully assumed would only be sold via the internet. Lucky me! Errr...lucky for my dog. I really only came to this location for get dog food. Generally, I fell like everything in this place is over priced. Especially the Dog clothes! Recently they stopped carrying the kind of blue buffalo food that my dog likes so I will have no reason to return. It is never packed in here, so there is always parking. I'm sure we all know this, but animals are allowed! Just make sure you clean up any accidents they may have! No one wants to step in a mess! The staff is always super friendly to me. I am not a fan of the grooming services. I think again, it is over priced, and they just do general grooming. Unfortunately I need to buy my dog the most expensive hypoallergenic food in the store, so needless to say I'm not too happy when I go there... but that really not the stores fault. Either way, the people working there are generally nice. We also use the Banfield next door and I must say that the doctors we have dealt with our excellent. I frequent this PetSmart for all things kitty related. I've been a big fan of PetSmart since I became a cat owner, but they didn't have any near our place in California. We used to drive 20 miles (one way) to get to the nearest one. Now that we're back East, I'm psyched to see a PetSmart in my neck of the woods. This one in particular is super clean and doesn't have the ridiculous animal odor (don't get me wrong, you can tell it'sa pet store, but it's not obnoxious. It's subtle). Yes, I admit, I am now one of "those" dog owners....buying holiday shaped treats and a santa hat for my dog...and Petsmart is the place to go. #1 it's a very convenient location for me, and props that it's right next door to Target, so it's really a no-brainer when it comes to where to go for my cat and dog. The staff here is friendly, and I totally agree with Sara V., that this place does NOT smell as bad as so many of those pet stores do. They are always offering to help me out to my car with the huge bags of food, litter, supplies, etc. On the weekends they also usually have reps from some of the higher end dog/cat food companies, which was a huge help when we were looking for a brand to use for our new puppy. read more

Amazing customer service!! My boyfriend and I brought our newly adopted friend to this location at 7pm on a Thursday. He was badly matted and we were desperate for some grooming. We had no appointment, but the staff in the salon was up to the daunting task. 1 hr and 45 minutes later (that's how bad his mats were) he emerged a new pup. Thank you so much for your professionalism, Lisa and Laura! While we waited, we strolled the isles and had some questions about dog food which were immediately addressed by a very knowledgeable staff member in that department. I went to the store many times to get food and treats for my dog and there was a woman who worked at the register who would either make a face when I walked in or make a sarcastic remark towards me..Who knows why people behave like that but I'm a customer and you don't treat a customer in that fashion so then I stopped going inside the store the second issue was that my dog was a rescue and she really had difficulty with Having her nails trimmed I found the place to be depressing I found the staff to be gloomy and when I took my dog and they weren't helpful in helping her to feel more comfortable and then when I went to the Moorestown store the staff was entirely different...So the only thing I do now is go to curbside pick up and get food that way I never go in the store anymore I go to the one at Moorestown....But I did speak to the manager and told him what I was feeling and since then I found the staff to be really kind and helpful but I have no idea what it's like inside the store lol I never go inside... read more

I went to this PetSmart location for my kitty's first shots and was quoted $259!!!! Seriously? So Zoe, the Vet Tech walked into the exam room and just started asking questions. I had to ask for her name and title. So much for customer-friendliness. Jeeze! Zoe tried to sell me a Wellness plan claiming I would only have to pay $39 per month and everything would be taken care of (shots, etc.) for my kitty. NOT! When I asked for specifics about the Wellness plan, Zoe subsequently informed that 'this & that' was not covered under the plan. Sounded fishy to me so I asked for literature about the plan. Nothing. Zoe revealed that she had nothing to offer other than her word of mouth about the plan. What in the world? Needless to say, I'm taking my kitty business elsewhere. read more

I took my 5 month Morkie to Petsmart (Cherry Hill New Jersey) on September 19, 2015.On my way back to pick him up I get a phone call. I thought they were calling to inform me he was ready for pick up. I spoke to a manager who told me, my dog was taken to Banfield Pet Hospital, because the groomer cut his back left paw pad. As a result from the cut bleeding continued. They insisted he continued to wiggle and move which resulted in the injury. I really didn't appreciate how they were insinuating because of his movements it was his fault. Regardless of his continued movement, HE is a PUPPY. Therefore he is going to move around especially since it was his first time. Petsmart grooming staff are COMPLETELY IRRESPONSIBLE, CLEARLY UNTRAINED, AND UNPROFESSIONAL. Now he has to wear a cone around his head until it heals.I WILL NEVER EVER TAKE HIM TO PETSMART AGAIN!! My pups very first grooming was at PetSmart. The groomer didn't do much (hair was still tangled here & there), so I started to go to an independently owned pet grooming place after then. Since PetSmart is located very close to my home, I occasionally took my pup to PetSmart for grooming if I couldn't find time to take her to her regular groomer. Whenever I brought my pup home, I still found a couple of matted/tangled hair spots & unsatisfactory services. One time, I added facial wash for an extra charge due to tear stains, the groomer didn't bother to fully remove her eye mucus (I even brought up to the groomer that I paid for facial wash at extra cost). I specifically asked for anal gland expression due to butt scooting (which was a part of full grooming service anyway) but my pup still scooted after grooming. I gave PetSmart 3 chances and every experience was bad. It's not that they offer competitively cheaper price either. I'd rather drive further away and pay a few dollars more to take my pup to independent groomers. read more

I'm not normally the type of person to write a review on every little place that I visit, but when someone or something really impresses me then I think the credit is due. I bought a puppy with my fiance a few weeks ago and made our first stop a Petsmart location in Philadelphia. The woman suggested to us a diet that I didn't completely agree with, but figured that this sales associate knew what she was talking about. She also scared us into thinking that our dog was diseased because he didn't have all of his shots, and actually thank God that she did because he ended up being sick after all (even before we bought him) and her scaring the crap out of us probably is what saved his little life. After all of her questioning I started to get the feeling through her tone that she thought we were incompetent and incapable of taking care of this dog. Anyway, after this sales associate loaded us up with what we needed to get started at home and $200+ later we were on our way. After puppy got sick and now that we're putting him back on a real diet, I decided to try out another Petsmart location to see what they had to say. I wound up finding Jamie who walked me through everything that I needed to know about getting puppy back on his feet. Her first reaction was "I can't believe they told you to feed him what they did at the other location, I would never ever suggest that". Now, I know some sales associates would probably just agree with what someone else had already suggested, but she pointed me in the direction of more natural and healthy options to feed our baby boy. Though the suggestions that she offered will ultimately cost more in the long run, I know that these sales associates are not making commission so her input was taken well into consideration. I had a lot of questions and not once did Jamie make me feel bad, no matter how dumb the question might have been. She also gave us some options on how to help treat our dog's separation anxiety, none of which are at all harmful and are trying out today (wish us luck). There weren't that many sales associates on the floor at 8:00 on a Monday night, but she never tried to rush me to get to other customers. All in all it's nice to have found a store where at least one of their associates are really well informed and want to help you make the best decisions for your pets. I can't vouch for any of the other staff at this location, but I'll be back again if the rest are anything like Jamie was. read more

PetSmart is not my favorite place to shop. The employees are always friendly, greeting you as you walk in the door, and certainly help when they can. However, many times the store does not have my guinea pigs' food in stock, or are out of the small pet bedding that is on sale. I shop more at the Marlton location, which is convenient to my office, but many times I have found myself making a second trip to the Cherry Hill location for something Marlton was out of, or vice versa. When I used to buy my cat food there, they'd often be out of the very specific variety I needed. It's usually the "good stuff" they are out of - the better quality foods and products. They carry most of the mainstream pet foods, but not many in the way of all natural and special diets. I used to buy specific GNC Brand supplements for my one cat, and I'd say those were also out about 50% of the time, especially when there was a sale or coupon. I now buy most of my pet supplies online, with the exception of cat litter, because it's too expensive to ship. If you're lucky enough to have a pet who can eat regular, main stream diet, PetSmart is fine, but if you (1) want to give your pet the highest quality foods, and (2) 2 of your 3 cats has special dietary restrictions, you will probably be better off going to Cutters Mill or ordering online from one of the various online pet supply companies. They do have a decent selection of toys and pet furniture, but a bit overpriced. Another inconvenience at PetSmart is that they never seem to have enough cash registers open. Aside from the stocking issues, I am, of course, not a fan of any store that sells animals. Nothing boils my blood like seeing an ad for a guinea pig or any other pet being "on sale," like any common stock item. That being said, the company does make some efforts towards helping homeless pets, with their various fundraisers for PetSmart Charities where money goes towards animal shelters, the cat adoption area, which is run by a local animal shelter or cat rescue, and their overall friendliness to animal shelters or pet rescues who will have on-site events at some PetSmart locations on the weekends. Overall, like any chain retail store, there are pros and cons. The pros mostly being convenience and, in some cases, a less expensive product. I do continue to shop at PetSmart for my cat litter mostly, and occasionally for a product I didn't realize I was out of and need right away. But they don't carry any of the 3 brands of cat food I buy, so those are purchased elsewhere. It's a convenience I utilize only when necessary. read more

Took my dog Kole (American Staffordshire Terrier) to get groomed today Feb. 15th 2014 @ 12pm. We were in the grooming section waiting to be checked in when my dog Kole went go sniff another dog and got bit in the face and drew blood! They refused to groom Kole after that, yet they still took the Boston Terrier that bit my dog. All they did was give us 3 different excuses as to why they wouldn't groom him and gave us $5.00 coupon and told us to come back another day because it was adoption day! Will never go back to Petco of Cherry Hill! I put call into their cooperate office and the better bureau. They took a dog agressive dog back into their facility and put other dogs at risk of getting bit! read more

NEVER get your cat groomed here. I was under the false impression that this store was friendly to cats because of a previous review. I was horribly wrong. I had an appointment this morning with Dana for a cat grooming because my poor kitty has a tumor under her tongue that is making it hard for her to groom herself. I included this information when I made the appointment, along with her age and her vaccination information. I was told that Dana was the only cat groomer, so I made the appointment a full week in advance on the day that she was available. I was also told that if the fur was too matted, Dana might shave it. I consented and said that I would be in the store waiting if the groomer needed anything. I arrived about 15 minutes early and was told to wait in the adjoining veterinarian's waiting room. Neither the grooming area nor any part of PetSmart offers a waiting area for grooming, which is pretty odd to me. Dana was not ready at the time of my appointment and I ended up waiting for about 30 minutes total. Not very professional, but at that point I just wanted my kitty taken care of. Once back in the grooming area, it was clear from the very moment that I said my cat had never been bathed before that Dana did not want to complete the service. My cat had not even been taken out of the carrier when Dana started making excuses not to bath my cat. My cat is 14 and does have a tumor under her tongue, but her health is perfectly fine for a bath. My vet actually encouraged me to do it because it would make her feel better to be clean. I had even timed her pain medication (for her tumor) so that she would feel her best for the bath. Again, before my cat was even out of the carrier, Dana tried to find a reason not to bath my cat. She said she was too old. She said she "didn't know what would happen" in regards to my cat's health. I responded that she was fine for a bath and if some bizarre catastrophic thing happened, I could walk 20 feet to the veterinarian that is attached to the store (you know, the one whose waiting room I was literally just in?). After that, she at least relented in taking my cat out of her carrier. Once out of the carrier, she claimed a bath could do nothing for my cat. She said my cat needed some of her matted fur shaved, but she couldn't do it and I would need to make a different appointment with someone else. I was disappointed that I was mislead when I made the appointment because I was told that Dana could shave fur if necessary, but that I still wanted the bath. Even if some of the fur was still matted, it would at least be clean and I could try to brush it out at home. She clipped my cats nails and then claimed that my cat was "lethargic" and she did not feel comfortable giving her a bath. My cat was being extremely well behaved and did not run or claw at any point. She was calm, but definitely not lethargic (her eyes were huge, she was obviously and expectedly nervous but she never caused a problem). Dana and I then argued for about 5 minutes while she dangled my poor cat without proper support. All the while, my sweet kitty never pawed, kicked or grumbled. In short, Dana mistreated my poor kitty and still refused to even TRY to bath her. At no point did she even take my cat into the bathing room. I am so angry that PetSmart even bothered making this appointment. I put my cat through unnecessary stress for nothing. I will NEVER buy anything from this store again and I will certainly NEVER use their "grooming" services. I suggest staying FAR AWAY from this place. I would have given ZERO stars because they did NOTHING for me or my cat, but yelp forces you to at least give one star. read more

Took our little Bichon Poo to be groomed today. Been going to this Petsmart for 13-14 years with our dogs. Chrissy has been grooming our dogs for many of these years and has groomed our B-Poo since she was a baby, she is 4 1/2 now. Chrissy would always schedule us for a Saturday or Sunday. Our dog has bad patella's on her rear legs so she would not cage her, would cut her, call us and we would get her in about 45 minutes. Had an appointment with her for 2 pm today. Got there, asked for her and they said she quit 2 weeks ago and that our appointment was with someone else. We said nobody called us, basically got you can leave if you want. Our little one needed a cut bad because of the heat. We decided to try the new woman who was not very nice. She butchered our dog badly, actually very bad. Bich-Poos get a Bichon cut, she basically shaved our dig down and then hand cut her head and face very short in a really short poodle cut. The poor little one did not look like our furry girl, looks completely different, thank God hair grows back, we just feel so bad for her. She also caged her for hours and we had to wait over three hours for her. Will never be back for anything and we have spent thousands here on grooming and buying tons of merchandise. Not anymore, we will take our business elsewhere. By CH PetSmart after all these years! read more

DO NOT BUY DOG FOOD HERE!!! A few weeks ago we went to petsmart to get food for our dog.. (She eats Purina one naturals with samon) after about a week or so we started noticing that we had a ton of moths in our house. At first i didnt think much of it with it being summer but it got to the point that i was killing about 20 moths a day.. One night before we were leaving the house i opened the bag of food to feed the dog and noticed what seemed to be spider webs in the food... I immediatly knew what it was... We took the food outside for further examination and the whole bag was filled with cacoons and larva. The next day we called petsmart and they told us to bring in the food to exchange it. My husband went to the store to get another bag and as he was picking up the new bag of food he noticed larva all over the outside of ALL the bags of this particular food... He went and told an associate and her response was "oh wow"... We are still dealing with the the moth problem in my home (which happens to be up for sale) but i am glad that we found the source of the problem. We had no choice but to call our exterminator who by the way cannot identify this specific species of moth! We are so fed up at this point!!! read more

This is a well managed Petsmart location. The employees are consistently friendly and helpful, though at times they can be hard to find. I rarely find myself waiting in a long check out line. The aisles are clearly organized and well maintained. They seem to do a fairly good job of maintaining their live animals and fish. Not as impressive as what the Marlton location does with live animals and fish, but overall everything seems to be as well cared for as you can expect in a chain pet store. read more

The grooming in this store is so unorganized and poorly run. After waiting over 4 weeks for an appointment, I bring my dog in to get her hair cut. They told me if I didn't have her rabbies paperwork that she couldn't come back with the dogs. This is after she's been to this location for a year repeatedly. All I had on me was the red heart from the vet. I can absolutely respect that they don't want to put other dogs at risk, however they waited until I got there for her appointment to tell me they needed this?? They didn't tell me when i made the appointment, no courtesy call to remind me, nothing. When i brought this up, none of the 4 employees said "I'm so sorry no one told you" or "let's try to reschedule you for asap." They just stared at me with blank faces then told me to go home and get it and bring it back. So unprofessional. Not to mention they "lost" my appointment once before this. If they treated me like this, i don't even want to know how they're treating the dogs there. Never again. No customer service skills at all. read more
