I absolutely love Villa la Paws and more importantly so does my puppy. My dog has been going to daycare and boarding for about 4 months now. When we hit the parking lot he is beyond excited to get in the building, which makes me feel good knowing he enjoys being there. The people are amazing and Mike made me feel super comfortable with leaving my puppy with them from the time I dropped him off for evaluation. They know your pets and genuinely care about them. They also do super cute things for Halloween, pics with Santa, etc. it's awesome. Also love being able to check in via video throughout their visit! Villa la Paws is my dog's favorite spot for daycare and boarding. Rocky is a daycare regular and I love that I can check in on him with the cameras. He also always has a great time whenever he stays over. One thing I really like about the boarding at Villa is that the dogs are not put into separate crates at night, but rather get to sleep in couch-filled rooms with other dogs. We've also utilized the grooming and bathing services at villa, which is awesome because he comes home smelling better than when he went in! When they responded to the fourth follow-up email they said it would be an additional half a month to get her in for an evaluation, presumably because they ignored all my previous emails and forgot to schedule her. My dog loves going to daycare at Villa la Paws! Highlights: The staff! You can tell they really care about the dogs and are excited whenever a new pup comes in for the day. Even my dog who has some serious separation anxiety is racing in and jumping into the arms of his favorite 'counselors' in the morning. Sometimes at pickup a staffer will even show me a photo or video they took of my dog doing something cute during the day which is super nice! Around Valentine's day they had some cute valentines to send home too which was adorable. They have great hours! 7am-7pm on weekdays which is perfect if your work hours are outside the 9-5 range. Pick up and drop off is pretty quick too (if you buy a multi-day daycare package it's even quicker). The ability to look at your dog on a camera definitely puts your mind at ease knowing you can check up on them and see what they're up to. Sometimes I'm curious and check in to see him playing, lounging around, or being pet by one of the counselors (nothing too exciting but that's also that's what you hope for). I've kenneled my dog at a few different places in the South Jersey area- but after discovering Villa La Paws, I won't be using anyone else. VLP offers crate free 24 hour supervised boarding for dogs of any size. Dogs are separated based on size and have access to different rooms/ the outside during their stay- my favorite is where the sleep: the couch potato lounge. The crate free boarding allows the dogs roam and find comfort in a new pack while they are away from home. Dogs are separated for dinner to minimize fights. Not having a set sleeping time will throw your dog off- my pup has been recovering from her "all-nighter" at VLP for the past four days- I've never seen her so tired. VLP also has 24 live stream video. It's not great quality, but better than alot of other kennels. The staff at Villa La Paws was beyond accommodating. I needed a place for my dog on a Saturday and I called the day before. The staff was able to squeeze in an evaluation and make the reservation.The front desk staff is also great, and was able to interact well with my pup. One night cost just under $50- but you can buy packages which make the stays cheaper in the long run. read more

We have been customers of Villa la Paws for a number of years. Our pooch, Pete, is a rescue with a ton of anxiety and social challenges. Mary, the groomer at Villa, is incredible. Pete has issues with other animals. Mary has earned Pete's trust...completely! Other animals around? No problem. Mary just picks him up and he's at ease! We were close to needing to have Pete put under anesthesia at the vet just to get his nails clipped. Pete allows Mary to not only clip his nails but to do anything related to his grooming. To top it all off, Pete's other mother(my daughter) was having Pete groomed for her wedding. She wanted some photos with our beloved boy. Mary surprised us by purchasing (on her own) getting him a little tux outfit to wear for his photo. The level of kindness demonstrated by the whole team at Villa La Paws, especially Mary, is tremendous and you will never regret choosing them for your boarding or grooming needs. This place is the best. Before deciding to trust Villa La Paws to our (at that time) one year old puppy on his first night away from home, we spent a lot of time examining everyone else. Though Villa La Paws was on the list, I admit it was low on the list given it's location. I know, it's not fair to judge a book by it's cover. Frankly, I couldn't come up with a good reason to shy away from a kennel in a strip mall (in the middle of Maple Shade), it's just that most kennels are tucked away in wooded areas. After a bit more research, it became clear that Villa La Paws does things differently. Most exciting to me, they let the dogs exist in packs--during the day and even at night. Never are they shoved into cages or segregated. In fact, they share a room full of couches in the evening. Finally, they have webcams everywhere that you can log in to check, whenever, for free. Given this info, we went ahead and gave Villa a go. My first customer service interaction was with Mike, whom I believe owns the franchise (he definitely manages it). It was great from then on. We've never had anything but a pleasant experience with customer service at Villa La Paws. Back to Mike: he recognizes our pup, and vice-versa, every time we walk in the door, which isn't often enough. That's not to say that we aren't going away enough--rather, Villa La Paws is not just a stellar kennel, but they also do day care (and grooming and training and I'm sure some other stuff I'm not aware of). Whenever my wife and I have been working too much, we bring the pup in to Villa La Paws for a day of excitement, and he always comes home exhausted and seemingly happy. I can't say enough about this place. My dog's first visit, after the initial (uncomplicated) evaluation process, was 10 days. I've never boarded him for that long and was definitely anxious. From my initial visit until the day I picked my dog up from boarding, I felt great. Every staff member I spoke to was friendly and reassuring - and clearly loved animals. For the first time, I didn't call to check on my dog while I was away. Didn't have to. I was able to see him having fun and being cared for every day and every evening on their webcam. At night, there are "slumber parties." The dogs are separated into several groups based mainly on size and temperament. They sleep on covered furniture with their "buds" in designated rooms. It's fun to watch your dog settle down at the end of the day and know he's not alone in a kennel. I even had a great experience with the groomer. She fit my dog in last minute for a bath and nail trim before I picked him up. She called me personally to let me know when he was ready, and from her feedback about my dog, I could tell she was as caring as the other staff members. And the little fellow looked beautiful!  Prices are fair, and there's no nickel-and-diming. Seamless, easy, and most important, your pet is well-cared for and adored in your absence. I can't say enough amazing things about Villa La Paws. For starters my dog, Ortley, was so shy at first. The employees were patient with her and took the time to make her feel more comfortable. Not once did I have a poor customer service interaction. I had a weird schedule and the staff was always accommodating with Ortley coming in. Around yearly holidays they would take her picture and make cute little crafts to give us when picking her up at the end of the day. If she didn't finish her breakfast they would take her food and have her finish it during the day. The price is affordable, too! The building is clean. PLEASE READ ENTIRE REVIEW!!! More in comments. Absolutely terrible. There are multiple reasons why. Let's go back to day one when I took her for her "evaluation". They immediately took her back as she was excited. Then just expected me to leave. (She is my baby). I was shocked I had to ask to see a tour of the place and might I say, I was not impressed. They literally just walked me back and opened the blinds to the room she was in like me asking was such a burden to them. But my puppy was having fun as she gets along with all animals so I allowed her the day to play. I mainly work from home but on certain days my boyfriend and I are gone for long hours so daycare was the most idea situation for us on those days. Some days in a rush to make it to work on time, I had to bag up her food for them to feed her there. Multiple times she would come home after being there for 6-8 hours with the same amount of food I dropped her off with. Their response "she wasn't interested in the food because she was having too much fun". As a professional this is unacceptable. This meant my dog had not eaten food since 7 pm the night before. Nearly 24 hours! I let that slide and just made sure I fed her at home for the times I did take her to daycare. Reason number 2 I am unhappy. Many times my dog came home with scratches, bloody paws from the scratches and many marks all over her. I took pictures of all of these occasions but just kept my mouth shut because I know how dogs can play rough sometimes. But what truly set me over the edge was the day that I had to leave work in a frantic state because they had called me to tell me my dog had a "puncture wound" and was "bleeding and needs to be seen by a vet". The best part is that they said they have no clue how it happened. Of course I drop everything I am doing to rush to get her to be seen by her vet. I work right up the street so it took be about 5-10 minutes to get there. Scared and upset I ran in. A gentleman was standing behind the counter chitchatting with a customer who had already picked up her pet. Then another woman walks by me. These are two people who are always there when I drop off my puppy so why I was ignored is beyond me. After standing there for a few minutes without being helped, I look over to the right to see my dogs collar and leash hanging on a door where she had been in all by herself. I finally shout out "is my dog in there? You call me and tell me she has a puncture wound and I just want my dog".. it is after I lose my cool that they all scramble around and finally bring my dog to me. I immediately look at her back and get upset as it was in fact, a very deep puncture wound. Her fur all around it was wet from all of the blood that had come out. In shock and of course disbelief I just take my dog and walk out to immediately take her to be seen. After paying roughly 200$ my dog is finally starting to heal. I question if there are time when people step out of the room.. a good portion of the tape I did not see anyone. So either she's just hiding in the blind spot or not in the room. What's the point of having the cameras if it doesn't cover everything? In addition, my vet had told me that the way her wound is placed, it looks like she had been running away and the dog went after her. Wasn't at all how it sounds the counselor said it happened. Also, the counselor had said that she did not see it happen or did not notice my dog was hurt until a few minutes later stating my dog didn't help or cry or anything. Strange to hear such details of an occurrence from someone who didn't see it happen. If you love your dog I would look into other daycares or a dog walker. read more

I couldn't be happier with this place! First, their daycare is awesome!! My puppy is always excited when we get there and comes back super tired after a long day of playing and socialising. Not only is my puppy happy, but I am too! As ND wrote, staff is extremely professional and very friendly, also the facility is clean and big. I had experience with other day care in other cities, but this beats them all! The facility is big enough for all dogs to run around and there is even space for them to cuddle and take naps! There are cameras to watch while your dog is there, so for those who are anxious about leaving your dog with others (AKA me!) you can watch them online. Second, their grooming services are great too! Unlike petsmart or other grooming places, you get an appointment at certain time so you dog is not waiting around in a cage to get groomed. I took my puppy in at 8.30 and by 10 she was done (of course, my dog is on the small side). Price is about average, so I have no complaints on that. The only downsize is that the place is a bit far from home, but it is worth it (at least my puppy thinks so)! read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. So far I have only used their grooming services, but the quality of the hair cut that they gave my yorkie is leaps and bounds better than anything else I have experienced in the area. I really loved that my dog was never placed in a crate and the staff that I met were very friendly and highly knowledgeable. I will absolutely bring my dog back here for grooming and I plan to us their additional services such as boarding and their mobile vet service in the future. My dog Austin went here for day care and it was OK. They seemed friendly and he enjoyed playing. We wanted a safe place to board him overnight and also liked he wouldn't be caged since he has free run at home. He was boarded over labor day weekend. We were assured that he was safe and the room was being monitored. It was a nightmare as we watched the camera's over night while 2 dogs ripped up cushions and eliminated all over the floor. I watched my poor dog all night and could not reach any one by phone or email to get him help. I question if anyone was there at night as is advertised! We were hundreds of miles away and when we did reach him we were given no explanation of how this could happen. We showed the owner picture we had take through the night of the room. The owner has never contacted us to make sure Austin was ok or to give a simple apology. Dogs should not be closed up together in a room all night. An employee should be in the room as they are in other kennels of this type. I feel I let my dog down by sending him here but maybe I can help another from being put in danger. read more

I did not board my dog here so I cannot comment on the boarding, but I did have her groomed here and I doubt I will go back. When the groomer came out to get her for grooming, she wasn't friendly at all and she was obviously very uninterested in the listening to how we wanted her groomed. When I picked my girl up it was obvious that the cut was uneven with little attention or care taken to the areas around her ears, tail, and feet. A bad cut is one thing, but my normally playful, docile, happy dog who up until this episode loved getting groomed was shaking and very anxious to get out of there. It took her quite a while to calm down, so I suspect something spooked her pretty good in the back where the grooming is done well out of sight. I was very disappointed in the cut, but as a human customer I expect at least friendly treatment. For the record, it wasn't a bargain price either. It cost me just slightly more than I'm used was to paying before my other very friendly and caring groomer closed. I probably would have tried the boarding someday, but not now. read more

I've boarded my lab/Shepard mix here a few times now. The boarding rates are pretty good. It's somewhere around 46 dollars overnight, and they offer packages of 6-10 days at a time to save some money. They also offer a webcam service where you can see your pet any time of day or night through an app on your tablet or phone ($2/30 days). The webcam images after lights out are terrible. You can barely tell which pooch is yours. My dog just spent about a week there, and came home sick and about 8lbs lighter. His weight loss may be attributed to stress from being away from home, but surely that's not why he's sick. He came home with a discharge coming from both tear ducts in his eyes. So obviously, although they try, their establishment isn't being cleaned as well as it should be, or maybe the communal water bowls are contributing to the health problems. Customer service is good, and workers are friendly. There aren't any cages, and your pets sleep in rooms full of couches to feel more at home. Overall, I like villa la paws, but might try somewhere else next time as it's expensive enough to board a pet without extra vet bills when they come home. read more

I'm surprised to see such positive reviews for Villa La Paws. I'm not usually one to write reviews, I just read them, but I feel compelled to write one in this situation. My initial experience will Villa La Paws was positive, as it was grooming for my toy poodle puppy, which was fantastic. The low star rating given in this review is for overnight boarding. My puppy is 5 months old, and this past weekend was his first time boarding and being away from home. I called to schedule a temperament test, and all went well. When it came time for boarding, the staff was decently friendly and fairly helpful. I filled out all the paperwork necessary. I dropped him off at 12 pm on Saturday to spend the day and night, and I was told that on Sunday, pick up times were between 9-11:30 am OR 3-5:00 pm. I opted for later pick up time, thinking my puppy was having a great time, would be tired out, and I would get my money's worth of $45. I came to pick him up not only wait about 20 minutes while all his belongings were gathered (though they were all specified on the paperwork I handed in), but they spent time even looking for his crate and leash. It was a back and forth process to get all his belongings together. Secondly, my total came out to $69.00. Nowhere on the paperwork or in person was it mentioned that if I opted for later pick up, I would pay the fee for day care. Finally, my puppy came back filthy. Of course I wasn't expecting him to be squeaky clean, how could he be after being around so many dogs and in a large facility? I get that. But I did expect him to be DECENTLY clean. The fact that he wasn't says something about how well they maintain their facility. He also came back depressed and exhausted (not blaming this entirely on the boarding facility, after all it was his first time away from home), but I wonder if they really factored in that he was only a 5 month old toy breed- he didn't need extensive exercise. He was very sleepy and lethargic for the next two days to follow. He contracted Kennel Cough (which, they do have a sign up that says board at your own risk), but again, this might be a sign of their lack of cleanliness and ventilation. They still have his food bowl (it never made it back with me and I couldn't wait any longer, was getting impatient), and I will certainly not be going back. I may have high standards, but I do expect, as a customer, to be entitled to the so called organized and clean facility they claim to be. read more

I went to Village LA Paws today in Mapleshade NJ for my Cavalier King Charles (aprox 20 lbs) evaluation for day care. While I was out front they took her back to play with the other pups. When I finished (10 min) I asked to see the facility. The people were very nice and started showing me around. When we got to the back I noticed how it didn't really smell clean and cool like the front, I was surprised as it was hot and muggy ( not good for anything sporting a fur coat) but the smell of dogs was kind of expected. The first room was for what they consider large breed but the were really the XXL breeds. Then we came to the 2nd room where my dog was. Immediately I noticed all the different size dogs were together, from toy 8lb to large 60+ . I also noticed the toy breeds cowering a bit and hiding in a crate they had placed in a corner, then I seen my pup literally running away from the large dogs and they were cutting her off and she was trying to find a place to hide. She was already panting ,tail between her legs trying to get away and then I seen from what. They are boarding an alpha he/ she was chasing her. Then the alphas tongue went back in the mouth the jowels were drawn up and the dog put its mouth across my pups back below the shoulder blades and pinned her to the floor. And then I told the girl to get her out immediately. While they were trying to get to her it happened again but I couldn't see my pup or the alpha for a few seconds as she was so close to the wall I was actually looking through. I was so scared, but I was quickly relieved when I saw the gentleman pick her up from below. ( all of this in less than 2 minutes ) The workers are great, it's too hot for dogs, way over crowded, and they need more separation according to size and aggressive alpha dogs should never be housed as the other dogs will either learn aggression or to cowar to submission . I was led to the impression that the dogs were given personality test but that is not the case. I only wished I could have called all the other toy breed parents to come get there pups as they all looked stressed.( you people who say your dog comes home played out and exhausted , that's BS they're exhausted but not in a positive way) It took my dog about 6 hours to calm down and take a treat. I use the word pup as today was her 1st bday and thought it would be nice to play with other pups for a bit, boy was I totally wrong!!! If you have a 40 -60 lb dog that doesn't mind it being hot then they might actually like this facility, but for me Ill be using my dog walker . Or look for a facility that truly has space for just the toy breeds. In case you were wondering what the worker said . She said it was NORMAL and that the other dogs could sense her nervousness. Yes it's normal for them to sense nervousness. It's not not NORMAL to group all size dogs together , it's not NORMAL to allow aggressive alpha behavior in that type of facility, it's not NORMAL to keep anything with a fur coat in that kind of heat all sharing 1 bowl of water. It's not NORMAL to see dogs of any size cowar away unless they are sick ,afraid or in pain - especially if they are your regulars. A little common sense goes a long way , use yours! read more

I feel the need to inform every one that is thinking of bringing their dogs here, or that already do, that this is NOT the place to go. They claim to do temperament tests in order to weed out the aggressive dogs, but some pass through because some counselors do not know what to look for in dog behaviour. They also do not ban dogs that have behaviour changes after they have been there a while. They give them MANY chances without any regard of the other dogs safety. My wife and I have brought my dog here a few times and have had no personal issues, but when I was informed of this (from a person I wish to keep anonymous), I know I can no longer trust my dog is safe here. I have brought my dog to other daycares as well that I've had bad experiences with and thought this was the best one... There MAY be a trustworthy doggie daycare out there somewhere, but after my experiences, I feel that I can no longer trust ANY daycare businesses. I would rather have a close friend, family member, or neighbour look after my dog than to risk her safety at another daycare. read more

Villa la Paws is awesome! Our puppies love spending time both at camp and for slumber parties when we travel. The cameras are a great way to check on the dogs when you are away and the staff are the best. The cage free environment works well for one of our dogs and for the other we provide a cage so she can sleep the same as she does at home. We have used this Villa La Paws location several times for two dogs now. Our last visit was the second time they posted a notice about kennel cough when we returned to pick up our dog. This time our dog (who has the Bordetella vaccine, which is no guarantee) contracted kennel cough. She came home hacking, vomiting, and had diarrhea. We took her to the vet and $278 later after a $130 boarding bill, we had a cocktail of antibiotics. I contacted the owner (Mike) about the situation. He stated as soon as they knew they posted a sign on the door. I explained that a better notification is necessary, because unless one is actually at the place of business, you wouldn't know they had kennel cough there. I strongly encouraged they text the owners, call the owners, email, or post something to their FB page. The owner didn't commit to doing that. Further, in the name of customer service I asked if they would be willing to refund my boarding costs or pay the vet bill. After I asked that, I didn't receive any response. Absolute crickets from Mike and Vila La Paws. I am in the customer service business and we do right for our customers all the time. What I am asking isn't unreasonable, especially about communicating better with owners. Had I received a text that kennel cough was discovered, I would have immediately come and retrieved my dog from there. Unfortunately, since the owner didn't respond back to my request, I am posting this review and urging all of you to use caution when considering this place. Two kennel cough outbreaks. After taking my 2 labs AND several foster dogs to Villa La Paws over the last couple of years, I am sad to say that we will no longer be supporting this business. We have recommended the groomers and staff and we can no longer do so with confidence. This morning I took my 11 year old lab to be groomed and we were 15 mins late (because I had to take calm my son down about something that had upset him at school and there was no way I was going to leave him there just crying) and upon walking in before I could even apologize for being late, was scolded by Amanda. She told me that I was almost 20 minutes late and that I should have called because she was about to call her next client. And while I understand the importance of someone's time and am sensitive to it, I was running late because I was worried about my son and his his well-being. Max was scheduled for a 2 hour appt and I know from all of the past appointments, it has taken only 1.5 hours to shave BOTH of my labs and this time she was only grooming one. She even argued with me about the service and insisted on reminding me that I liked the furminator service the last time and asked why I wasn't doing that this time. I explained that I always shave the dogs in the spring but do the furminator treatments over the winter. I even had to ask her if she was even willing to shave him because she was so insistent that I do the other service (which costs more so she gets paid more is my guess). This scolding and arguing over services was all happening in front of Mike, the owner, and not once did he step in and say something like, "hey, Amanda, look, I think it will all work out, it's ok" or anything. I know she would not be pressed for time with this service; Amanda has groomed my dogs several times in the past. It was so unsettling that after walking to my car, I went back in and got Max. I wasn't willing to let Amanda take out her frustration on my dog. It was completely unprofessional and discourteous and for that reason, I do not trust that I can leave my babies in their care either for grooming or day care. Thankfully there are SEVERAL other options for grooming, boarding and day care in our area. read more

We started taking our dog to Villa La Paws when it first opened as it's very convenient and our dog is very social so it seemed like a perfect fit. After having boarded him there a few times, he would come back out of character and smelling of bleach which made us a bit nervous so we hadn't used them for quite some time. We decided to give them a try for a recent grooming when we couldn't get in to our usual place and it was fine. I found a couple of bugs on our dog so we decided to try them again to help with a quick bath and possible debugging. Upon pick up our dog couldn't open his eye. In hoping it was just soap, we went home. When we addressed the issue they continually said nothing was wrong but when we took our dog to the vet he had a scratch on his cornea. When telling Villa La Paws of what happened they still continued to say nothing to their knowledge and only offered to give us a credit for 50% of the vet costs. While this was a kind gesture you can be assured we will NEVER be taking our little love here again. I understand accidents happen but BE WARNED! read more
