Three stars overall because the store itself is fine. I'm very skeptical of their other services though, especially Doggy Daycare. They accept pets at 7AM but they're kept in a cage for hours until they have playtime which is in a group that is not separated by size. My 4 month old Cavapoo puppy is not playing with large dogs that can trample her and injure her! That is not safe. I asked for my reservation to be canceled after hearing, "we keep them in cages and the dogs all play together regardless of size". If anything were to ever happen to my girl, I would be absolutely livid. Do not take your dog here! read more

From the vet to the grooming department, the staff at this facility is terrible. There are always long waits for all of their services, and they never call to tell you if something happened. For a routine visit they kept my dog all day, probably because they over booked and then their horrible receptionists didn't call once the dog was done. Do yourself a favor and go to a legit vet or groomer for those services. read more

Grooming salon is fantastic! I use Lee, she grooms both my dogs. They always look fantastic and she makes sure they are well taken care of. She also is very accommodating with appointments and will always text me when my babies are due for a grooming. Everyone at the salon is very nice and their prices are reasonable. read more

My experience at this PetSmart location was an absolute nightmare, especially during the holiday season when excellent customer service should be a priority. If negative stars were possible, I would give them without hesitation. When I purchased items at this store, I specifically asked the cashier if I could return everything if necessary, and I was assured there would be no issue as long as I had the receipt and the items were not entirely used. Fast forward to today: I returned to the store to process the return. As the cashier began scanning the items, I noticed I was only receiving about half of what I originally paid. I asked her about it, and she called the manager, who then involved the store supervisor, "Amber." Amber's handling of the situation was beyond appalling. From the start, her attitude was dismissive and hostile. She outright refused the return, completely contradicting what I was told at the time of purchase and blatantly disregarding PetSmart's own return policy. When I calmly explained the situation and asked her to honor what I was told, her rude response was, "I am not going to argue with you." It gets worse. When I asked for the corporate customer service number, Amber sarcastically said, "You have a phone; you can look it up yourself on Google." I was absolutely shocked at her unprofessional and condescending attitude. To add insult to injury, when I told her I wanted to report her behavior, she literally laughed in my face. After leaving the store, I contacted PetSmart Corporate, who confirmed on speakerphone that it is indeed company policy to accept returns, even for opened items, as long as the receipt is provided. Despite this, Amber refused to honor the policy. This is not only a clear violation of PetSmart's return policy but also theft and fraud. When I went back into the store to attempt to retrieve the items I had brought for the return, I overheard Amber and other employees laughing and clearly talking about me. I overheard them on multiple occasions as I tried to gather the items I brought, but they refused to return them. This is blatant theft. Her lack of professionalism and empathy is unacceptable. No customer deserves to be treated this way. Amber's behavior not only reflects poorly on her but also damages the reputation of PetSmart as a whole. As a supervisor, she should represent the best of what the company stands for--but she is doing the exact opposite. Her actions were unprofessional, disrespectful, and outright unacceptable. This incident has left me questioning PetSmart's hiring practices and their judgment in placing someone like Amber in a position of authority. If management looks into other reviews, they'll likely see similar complaints about her, and that should speak volumes. I have already filed a dispute with my bank, reported the incident to PetSmart Corporate and Human Resources, and will follow up with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). PetSmart has officially lost a loyal customer of over 10 years because of Amber. But it's not just me--they will lose many more, as I will ensure everyone I know hears about this incident. Amber is a disgrace to PetSmart and has no place in her current role or any role that involves interacting with customers. DO NOT SHOP AT THIS LOCATION. Amber, the supervisor at the East Hanover PetSmart, committed theft, fraud, and a blatant violation of the store's return policy. I took my dog over there to be groomed . And, the aftermath was my dog getting a rash. All because they did not properly wash the shampoo off my dog. SmH I had to take my dog to a veterinarian. And, they had to shave that area so I could put medication on the affected area. This made me so upset. Very rude managers. We basically go to a fish store most weekends. We recently got a new dog so wanted to check out the daycare, grooming etc and grab a couple fish. We brought our last dog there years ago and liked it. We stopped at the fish department and tried to get a pleco and a molly. We pick one out, they can't figure out what it is, what the price is etc etc etc. they priced the wrong one (cheaper) so I'm not saying anything. They say "it's not even supposed to be in that tank, what's it doing on there?" Then they decide not to sell it to us, because she asked what we were putting it in and my wife said her 5 gallon. The lady goes NOPE very sharply and like throws her hand up and starts talking down to us (while referencing the information for the wrong fish ). I try to explain her we have plenty of tanks all over the house, fresh and salt , reef tanks etc etc. This part I kept to myself.... but only a moron would put a fish the size of my pinky nail straight into a Large mature stocked display tank without first putting it in observation (the 5 gallon) make sure it's eating and getting treated with meds if needed, especially from a place like that. They don't know what the fish even are , I doubt they know how to properly quarantine and treat a fish. But every time I started to talk , she just kept saying nope and throwing her hand up. I just left, they lost out on a lot of money from the day care , grooming and boarding, not to mention all the random things I'd be grabbing over the next hopefully 12-15 years we have the dog. I don't feel too bad about it cause there's a place nicer and closer to us that is gonna get our business , we were gonna travel further to there cause we liked it years ago, but whatever, guess it worked out anyway. This is mostly a warning to others. The staff isn't very informed, so if you're new I wouldn't listen to them or go there and if you're experienced you CAN'T go there sooooo....... I had a really unfair experience at this stroe. I booked an afternoon appointment to get my dog a bath, but when I showed up, the staff totally played favorites. They refused to bathe my dog, claiming his fur was too matted, which wasn't even that bad. Don't ever take your pet here for grooming services. I used to take my dog here for grooming services, and this last time they kept my dog waiting for 4 hours until she got her turn. I had dropped my dog off here and called an hour later to see if they were done and they kept telling me my dog is going in, which was a lie. Finally, when I got the call to pick her up, she was shivering and really anxious. I had to take her to the vet and found out she had developed colitis, and it's now a permanent condition and has cost me more money and headache. WORST place to groom dogs EVER!! I have three dogs currently/have had many of my dogs in the past groomed here and I can't stress enough how awful of a salon this is! They once cut a portion of my 16 y/o senior dog's ear off and called me three hours later saying she "had a nick" on her ear.. she was rushed to the emergency vet by the manager after an hour of bleeding and received extensive medical care and stitches. She had a cone on her head for weeks after. They gave us the haircut for free as if that's any consolation. Just the one haircut for free. In the latest string of nonsense, they cancelled our grooming appointments for two of my dogs, without warning, on the day of, last weekend. I was notified via automatic email. We called to reschedule for this weekend, but when I called today (yes I called NOT them because they are irresponsible and uncaring) to confirm today they had no records of the appointments being made. This is definitely not the first time for this. Additionally, I had a dog walking/pet caretaking business for three years during the pandemic and heard soooo many horror stories about the East Hanover PetSmart Grooming salon from all of my clients. As a general rule, I tend to like Petsmart stores better than Petco, but the staff here at this location hasn't been particularly helpful when I've asked for assistance. We don't use the grooming area for our dogs (we have two shedders so instead I could really use an industrial robotic vacuum service, but that's another story), so I can't rate that option here... I guess what bothered me about this place was the lack of assistance on trying to find some recommendations on training programs. They do training there and they always seemed booked, however we wouldn't know for sure because we could never get a call back. In the end, apparently, there had been a lot of turnover and the person who took over and finally called us back was pretty nce. But it was too late by then, we found somewhere else to go. I have had fish tanks for almost twenty years. Started with a ten gallon and grew. I now have three tanks and consider myself to have some experience. I went to buy some tetras for my 75 gallon tank and was told they would not sell me any because my tank had too many fish. The only question they asked was size of tank and how many fish. Once she said she would not sell me any I could care less if they wanted my business or not. Please remember that tetras can be small and that on average, one inch fish take one gallon. Blue neons are only about an inch so you can have many in a large tank. I will go back to shopping my local pet stores and not stop at PetSmart because of convenience. read more

Family was coming in from out of town and had two dogs that they brought along. We had a number of people at the house with allergies so the dogs could not stay. They prearranged a day at the PetHotel for the two pups and what a day they had. My family raved about the experience they had. I had to stop by with my brother to see what this was all about. It is a wonderland for pet owners. Not only is there food and every accessory that you could possibly want for your pet, but an adoption center, a vet, a hotel, grooming service and day care too. Picked up my dog after a 1 night stay at the E. Hanover Pet Hotel, and was told they needed 5 minutes to clean him off as he had urine on his legs from a possible "accident" while in his enclosure. Come to find out he had been sitting/laying in his own urine, and for how long? No one could tell me! I was told though, by a defensive employee, that all dogs are walked 3x/day and that with 130 dogs, sometimes dogs have accidents while waiting their turn. Hello? My dog doesn't have "accidents" if he's being walked 3x in a day! I'm sure he had an "accident" from being left in his enclosure all day long with NO walks! Unfortunately, there is no way I can prove this other than saying I know my 9 year old dog. Customers should have access to streaming video to check on their dogs,I feel. Another reason I believe he wasn't walked at all today was when I left the store with him, he couldn't get to the grass area fast enough before he immediately moved his bowels! This dog had to go badly! This wouldn't have happened had he been walked 2 or 3 times today. Needless to say, I'm not a happy customer and will board my dog elsewhere in the future! read more

We have used the hotel facility in this area since we've rescued our Charlie (Feb 2015) but never again! So this happened to our youngest boy Left Charlie for 2 nights at the PetSmart Hotel in East Hanover during August 2018. They insist no shock collar was used. Charlie may not get along with other dogs, but he is so friendly and trusting with people. He was a bait puppy from North Carolina. He doesn't trust dogs, therefore he will bark constantly when he sees them. Pet Smart knows this. We've been using them for the past 3 years without any incident. Two different vets have seen him, and they say it's a high probability that a shock collar was used. Dan, store manager from PetSmart, states that it's against their policy to use shock collars. They don't know what happened and they try to put the blame on his collar, which he's had over a year now. Such nonsense! We just want to know how this happened under their care. We filed a police report, unfortunately nothing came out of it. Shock collars are not illegal in NJ. The case was closed since they found no evidence in video that shock collar was used. Who ever used it was wise enough not to be in front of the video surveillance. read more

This has been a good place for getting food and other things for my dog however the Pet Hotel is terrible. Every other day they forget to feed my dog. Like today, I dropped my dog off at 8 am and told them to feed my dog the food that I brought for them. After I picked up my dog at 7 pm, I found out that the dog food was intact and they didn't feed h anything. My dog has been hungry the entire day. Just picked up our Dog and his entire bottom is comply wet. We ask as to why he is wet and the answer we are given is that it's a little Happy pee. Happy Pee is a little squirt not his entire bottom saturated with pee. My guess is that he was negligently allowed to sit in his own urine. Definitely will be our last time. I frequent this store for food, treats and other purchases for my dog because their prices are very competitive relative to other stores in the area and they have great sales. From a shopping perspective I would give PetSmart 4-5 stars. But that's offset by their doggie day camp, which I have used occasionally. While most of the staff in the hotel appear to be very kind and helpful with the dogs, there are a few factors that make this more of a "last resort" doggie daycare option for me. Most importantly, I really *dislike* the fact that they don't walk the dogs outside to potty. Instead, the dogs potty where they play/live while onsite. Store policy. (I suspect it's a liability concern.) The end result is that, if your dog spends enough time at PetSmart's day camp, (s)he is likely to revert from the potty training that you took great pains to impart to them, and to begin "going" in the house again. Ugh! That, alone, is sufficient reason not to use this daycare or boarding facility. And probably as a result of all of the dogs "going" in the playroom, I found that my normally clean pooch was often dirty when I picked him up. Interestingly, I've often observed the staff from the Mt. Pleasant animal shelter outside near the PetSmart store walking the rescued dogs. So there is space for dogs to potty outside. I suspect that the shelter realizes that their charges will be easier to place if they're on the road to being house-broken when they're adopted. Apart from the issue of pottying inside the facility, I dislike the daily "report card." Initially it seemed like just a report of what my dog's day was like: e.g., playmates, number of bowel movements, etc. But then it stopped being that and it turned into a "criticism" card: my dog wouldn't share toys with others, etc. Everyday it was something negative. What parent wants to read a negative report card everyday? Anyway, my fave doggie daycare facility, K9 Resorts in Madison, does not even allow toys in their play room because they know that dogs are dogs, and they may not want to share toys. Plus, K9 Resorts has an enclosed, secure outside play area with special "doggie grass" that is drained and cleaned every day. To potty, the dogs are accompanied into this outside area on a regular schedule. Thus, the dogs don't unlearn their potty training at K9 resorts. Like! read more

Just to warn people against bringing their dog here for boarding. In my opinion it is sub standard care. My personal experience is that my dog was not given her bed during a recent stay and not given the opportunity to relieve herself the day of pickup. I dropped my dog off Saturday with a dog bed. They took my dog back and told me to leave the dog bed next to the register. As I waited for the associate to come back, a different associate came to the register so I told her about the dog bed. They said it was fine and they would bring it right back to her. I picked up my dog today at about 11:45 and she was in a kennel directly across from the picture window, so I could see her clearly. She was shaking and curled onto a tiny thin green blanket. Her bed was not in the cage. They brought her out to me and she dragged me straight out the door to a patch of grass and urinated for an abnormally long time. I got her home and she pooped twice in five minutes. A little while later she asked to go out and pooped again. I called to complain and the manager told me that they did not give my dog her bed because they didnt know who it belonged to which is odd because 1) I told two associates about it when I dropped her off and 2) they knew it was my dog's since they brought it out with her when I picked her up. Clearly they are for some reason not giving dogs the items owners drop them off with and the dogs are not being given beds as advertised. With regard to the "bathroom" business, the manager first suggested dogs new to boarding sometimes need time to adjust when they come home. My dog boards regularly and never has a problem. When I told the manager that she looked at my dog's file and said "oh. Well she was not going regularly here." So I pointed out that the report card they sent her home with said my dog "took care of business" ie, she went fine. The manager then read me the log: urine Saturday night, urine and poop Sunday morning, urine and poop Sunday night, nothing for Monday morning. Now she claims they walked my dog but the dog just didnt go. I think it is fairly obvious they just never bothered to walk my dog and the poor thing wasn't given a chance to go out for over 12 hours. The dog was going normally the rest of her stay and has never had a problem in the past. I would even suggest that had my dog suddenly stopped urinating/defecting at all, that would have been cause for a call to me or a visit to the vet. They either didnt walk her or displayed a disregard for her health. In my opinion, it is fairly obvious that the missing log is because they didnt walk my dog, not because the dog didnt have to go after being caged all night. It is frustrating to think I dropped my dog off to be cared for while I was away and instead of Petsmart providing the care I thought I was purchasing, they made her sleep on the hard floor and did not let her out to go to the bathroom for over 12 hours. I would suggest people use one of the many other facilities in the area for boarding. read more

This pass Monday I trusted my 1year old puppy with the staff of pet smart doggie day camp. I got him back he was attacked by another dog and his throat was swollen and he could barely breath by the time I got home I had to go back and show them they showed some concern. but it was a good thing his doctor was in the building to tend to his medical needs. So the next day I go to give them his medical bill to get my money back and the woman i spoke to was heartless and tried to make it seem like my dog was at fault but he's the one being treated medically. Petsmart should discontinue using Shot Vet - it is the most unprofessional covid spreading experience I have ever been exposed to. There are not COVID requirements - nothing sanitized, no 6 feet apart, the assistance to vets should all be fired. They have no management over the people waiting - people cutting in lines. She asked if I had a PetSmart card which I did don't due to me always shopping at Petco. So when I asked what were the benefits to having one she explained the points system. Soooo they almost killed my cat. We left our cat there for a week. When we went to get her, she was weak and lethargic and sneezing. They told us she really wasnt eating well. We took her to the vet and found she was SEVERELY dehydrated and her liver stopped working. The vet said it appeared she did not have water for a while. That's when I thought back to picking her up. I didn't see water in any of the kennels, not for the dogs or cats. I believe they did not feed or give her water the entire week. This place should be closed down!!!!
