I made an appointment online for a bath for our family dog and my 17 year old offered to take him in. Well Pat felt a need to up sell her to a more expensive package. What kind of person takes advantage of a kid. Bad business. And to make it even worse I had to bring him back because they didn't even do everything listed to be done for a basic bath. Pet Hotel: I spend anywhere from $700-$1,500 per year utilizing this service, but I can assure you not one more dollar of mine will be spent in this location. My complaint here is their booking process, or lack there of. This is the third time that I have tried to book my dog for a one night stay via their online booking system, and received a confirmation of my request stating someone would be in touch with me to confirm or deny the appointment. Well, here we are 24 hours before the day of request, and no word from the staff. I called to confirm with them and they claim they never received the request and that they are completely booked and can not accommodate my dog's stay. Why offer online booking if you aren't going to follow up with it? Calling customers, regardless of your message, is super important in the world of customer service. My advice here to host some sort of communication training for staff at the Pet Hotel before you lose more customers. read more

What a horrible experience. We went in here on Christmas Eve to get a fish for our daughter. Here is just a sample of the things the guys in the fish department told us 'You'll be giving that fish a death sentence' 'There's an 80% chance they'll die' 'A goldfish should live forty years' and a sarcastic 'ha, good luck' They had no interest in selling us anything short of a tank with 20 gallons per fish. I believe this is the item which was characterized as a death sentence for a goldfish. They could not have been less pleasant making the customer feel horrible. I get it. The people who work here love animals. They certainly want what is best for the animals and fish. If you don't like the products the store you work at carries though, take it up with Petsmart, not us. All these guys succeeded at doing was convincing us to drive a quarter mile down the road to their competitor to buy $60 in equipment and a $0.19 feeder fish. read more

This is the second time we tried this The Petshotel in East Hanover. The first time was fine, this time it was disaster. I dropped off our two dogs with their beds. When I went to pick them up the beds were missing. I waited nearly 40 minutes as I watched the staff running around looking for the beds. They came out with the wrong ones. Then one of the beds came out and was disgusting...dried puke and urine and God only knows what else. One employee admitted the bed was given to a totally different dog...WTF! Then the second bed arrived, or at least what was left of it, in a plastic bag and torn to shreds. Again, they admitted the bed was given to a different dog. They replaced the beds with new ones, but that's not the point. Why were the beds given to other dogs...and what did my dogs sleep on?? Also, as it turns out, both pets contracted kennel cough...another expense. The dogs seemed dehydrated when they got home, drank nearly 2 bowls of water. read more

Do not use the grooming salon. Kiera is insanely unprofessional, rude and inconsiderate of your time. I made an appointment for a puppy trim online only to show up, wait 10 minutes, and be told she "would not take my dog" because my appointment was missed. Even though my email confirmation stated I was correct in the timing of the appointment, she couldn't have cared less and was not at all concerned with attempting to fit me in. On a side note, as I waited I overheard her discussing how another customer was going to be charged for a full service even though they did not have time to finish the dogs trim. Very shocked at the lack of respect and attention to detail since I use Banfield pet hospital and training services at this location. Both are wonderful. WILL NOT be back to the grooming and that is entirely on the shoulders of a rude and unprofessional groomer. Dave, one of the managers, did offer to credit my account, and while the gesture was appreciated, I will not be interested in risking my dog's well being. If they cannot respect another human being I can only imagine how the dogs are treated once the owners leave. Very disappointed. read more

My dog stayed at the Petsmart hotel Saturday July 16 and Sunday July 17th. He was infected with the same "kennel cough" epidemic that countless other dogs have caught. Not only did I get stuck with a $400 vet bill, the hotel staff was still accepting dogs and not alerting people of the problem! No sign warning people. Unreal. I am done with this place. Update: to their credit, they made things right. Also, the "outbreak" was really just kennel cough and I've since learned it happens everywhere at some point. I've been back to Petsmart and will continue to do so. read more

This review relates solely to the Pets Hotel located within Petsmart. I have been boarding my dog at the Pets Hotel ever since Petsmart opened on Route 10 a few years ago. The staff is extremely caring and seems to really love the pets for whom they care. Prices are competitive for the local market. My only complaint is the lack of any kind of loyalty or frequent visitor program tied to per-day boarding. read more

We had an appointment to bring our dog here for two nights over Thanksgiving. We chose the PetSmart Pet Hotel because it was supposed to be good for dogs who get freaked out easily by other dogs. We have a nervous dog, and she was spooked getting dropped off at a new place. The workers couldn't handle her and refused to take her! Now we have to cancel our Thanksgiving plans at the last minute!! This means my kids won't get to see their grandparents, etc. Do not count on this place to actually take your pet even if they've promised to!! It's not at all a good place for dogs that aren't easygoing--we should have boarded her at the vet's like we usually do. They don't have individual rooms but at least they know how to handle dogs! read more

As much as I love the staff there and facility my dog just came home after spending the weekend there and has a bad case of kennel cough. We just got off the phone with them and they admitted having the airborne virus for the past several weeks. However, they are instructed by "corporate" not to enlighten anyone! This is an airborne disease that requires all dogs to be vacated and not only the faculty cleaned but all air filters changed as well. Sadly they have not been screening properly and I wonder why I even give my dog the vaccination when clearly it doesn't protect or prevent the illness! I will not be bringing my fur kid back anytime soon!!! read more

Just pick my two Labs up today after their stay in the hotel and doggie day camp while I was up north for a visit and the staff was great. They made it so easy by having my dogs vaccination records faxed from my vet in VA before I even walked in the door. I don't have enough compliments for the Pet Hotel staff at this Petsmart location. For over a year now, my dog has been enjoying Doggie Decamp at the Pet Hotel (located inside the store). They literally love my dog, and I know they make other owners feel the same about their pets. For day camp, you're able to drop your dog off at 7:00 am, and can have them stay until 8:30 pm. For $23! It's an amazing deal and an incredible experience for my dog. He's so socialized, and I have to credit like 99.9% of that to this location. Not only in the Pet Hotel amazing, but there's a Banfield Pet Hospital right inside the store, too. God forbid anything should happen to your dog while at camp--they will call you immediately and ask you if you'd like the vet to see your pet. About 4 months ago I got a call while my dog was at camp-they thought he may have peed some blood. It turned out to be nothing, but it was handled very professionally. Last summer, we went to Florida, and boarded our dog for 7 nights. Not one problem and my dog left there just as happily as he does on a weekly basis. I highly recommend trying the day camp here. In addition to this service, the store itself is clean and organized. We love shopping in Petsmart! read more

I was thrilled that I found groomers that did an excellent job on my dog but today it was not a good experience at this PetSmart groomers. I dropped off my dog for 8:00 am appointment and the manager told me that my dog would be ready in a couple of hours as they were busy. Fine! After 3 hours I called them to see if he was ready to be picked up and she informed that they just bathed him and getting ready to trim him up and would be another 1/2 hour. I told her to forget it as I had appointment at 12:00 and can't wait another 1/2 hour. So my dog was in a crate for 2 hours waiting to be groomed. They should not over book. That's very inconsiderate to me as a customer and to my dog who hates to be penned up in a crate. Shame on you PetSmart Groomers. You just lost a customer!! read more

Took my dog in the other day. The staff are wonderful with her and she now smells clean and her nails are nice and trim and her teeth are nice and clean. No complaints! I have a very large dog (110+ pounds-a mastiff) who is really a big scaredy cat when it comes to groomers/vets/vacuum cleaners...you name it. The only reason I'm giving a star, is because we have left my dog here for boarding for many years, and he seemed to like it. But this last time was my last one for sure, I don't trust them anymore. I left my dog for a week, and 2 days after I picked him up, he was sick, he is a very healthy dog and never gets sick, and of course current in all vaccines. He had an awful cough, I took him to the vet and was prescribed antibiotics. I told the vet I had plans of boarding him again a week later, and was told he would be fine by then. Fast forward a week, my dog was perfectly fine, finished his treatment and no signs of any issues, I get a confirmation call from Petshotel the day before, all ok, and then the day of my trip I show up with my dog to check in, and I'm told he won't be admitted because he had been sick, as reported by his vet (Banfield, right there). I go to Banfield to see if this was some kind of communication issue, and they tell me Petshotel has an outbreak of kennel cough (which my dog probably contracted during his previous stay) so, they don't recommend that I insist on having him admitted. They never notified me of anything, they called to confirm the day before, they try to blame me for not telling them my dog had been sick (again, was told by vet there was no problem and my dog was healthy and treatment finished after he got sick at their premises), and it all ended in our family having to cancel our trip THAT SAME DAY. I am never bringing him again, as I don't trust them anymore. They couldn't prevent dogs from getting sick, and they are not honest at communicating with clients about outbreaks and policies. read more

The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is the price. I'm rating this location on its kennel. If you're willing to pay a bit more it's a great place. The staff is helpful and friendly. The doggie day camp works well- I've never seen a true problem between dogs. They keep things clean and they are very helpful with getting all of the paperwork complete. I had problems with getting what I needed but they reached out to my vet to ensure things were in place. I was very grateful since I was in a crunch for time. Also the late hours are a plus- local options close early and it's difficult to schedule a pickup. We will definitely be using Petsmart hotel I'm East Hanover again. read more

There was a misunderstanding regarding which vaccines were needed in order to start grooming my 4 month old morkie pup and when I made my appointment I made it very clear that his vaccines were on 7/4 and I was told I could book grooming for 48hrs later - they almost didn't take him. Then I was so frustrated because they said you should have brought him for grooming when he was younger so he could get used to it! I was about to flip when then I realized I had spoken with a man...to find out all of the workers at this location are women. I was misinformed by the vet not petsmart groomers. Even though they were not at fault, the manager Pat, stepped in right away to calm me and genuinely wanted to just help me. He got his first puppy trim for free. That was so sweet of Pat, because I'm the one who was misinformed & angry but she was so nice and helpful. Kiara was our groomer, Simba loved her & she did a great job! read more

This review is for the Pet Hotel. My dog stayed there for Day Care (not the camp as he is not neutered). The staff was always very friendly, very professional, and always gave my dog extra attention (he is shy). I did receive coupons and free day care days through my Petsmart card. Always very clean and very flexible hours (you can pick up as late as 9pm). I could tell they really cared about my dog! The only reason we stopped going there is because we moved the dog to a closer daycare that allows intact dogs to play with each other. read more

Even though I now work for a competitor, and was a regular customer of that competitor for several years before working there, by and large, Pet Smart is a very decent pet supply store and certainly a good community citizen -- plenty of help for pet rescues; I really admire that aspect of the company. On the other hand, one day when I was between rescue dogs but still had a cat, I made the mistake of speaking to one of the so-called puppy trainers in the Bridgewater, NJ store. I explained to her that I had always had German shepherds (and one GS mix) and I was seriously looking for another to rescue. This "trainer" went off on a rant about how obnoxious German shepherds were, and how she dreaded seeing them (puppies) in her classes because they were virtually untrainable and so difficult to manage with other dogs. I tried to tell her that my females had gladly adopted tiny babies of other species -- kittens, two baby rabbits, a guinea pig and had become stellar canine citizens -- but she was having none of that. She insisted that GSD puppies were disruptive and a total pain in the a$$ in class. I strongly believe that if you cannot train a GSD, you cannot train a dog, but whatever. I concluded that her IQ must fall well below room temperature, and in fairness to Pet Smart Bridgewater, she wasn't there the next time I was in the store (quite a while later for an adoption event with a rescue group I was volunteering for). I still maintain that Pet Smart in general is a wonderful corporate citizen, but I must say, the fact that such a dolt was hired in the first place left me totally negative about their training program. read more

DON'T board your pets here. The staff does not give a damn about the safety or health of your pets. They are walked to the bathroom into a small room with a floor covered in feces and urine to relieve themselves two times a day, about twelve hours apart. I've brought my animals here and had two sales associates straight up tell me that this is not a good place to keep them. I was also told that the superiors in the pets hotel will drag the dogs by their leashes even if they are old if they aren't cooperating and put them in their kennels, and that the superiors tell the new employees not to "clean the kennels too well, they're just dogs." It's apparently a goal to work with your head down long enough in the pets hotel long enough to be transferred to the front of the store. When I asked the employees why no one has done anything about this, they said people have complained and went to the store manager but nothing gets done. I guess that's how they became the #1 store in the region. I contacted the manager of the pets hotel and before I could even ask about these allegations, she sounded annoyed and miserable. The fact that employees need their jobs so badly they will work under such miserable people instead of quitting will risk their jobs to warn customers goes to show how horrible this place is. While of course I want to say "support local businesses" if you are going to use petsmart for boarding, DO NOT use this one!!! read more

The only reason i gave it 1 star is bc i cant give it zero stars. Took my dog to pet hotel on 2sday and got him friday with a severe limp. Staff said he was great and there were no problems and that he played with the staff. Took him to the vet the next morning and he agreed something happened. $250 later and some immflamatory meds later he is not much better. DONT TAKE A PET HERE! Cant stress it enough. It would have been fine if they admitted there was an accident, but they lied. read more
