HORRIBLE customer service. Phoenix in the grooming salon seems to think that greeting a customer rudely is appropriate on the job. Worse than this, the manager was standing just a metre away, and either condoned said rudeness, or didn't seem to have any control over the situation. My dog is a little under 3. We have been going to the Petsmart grooming salons for a long time now, and I've often purchased the highest end cut/bath/add-ons and packages. Today I did something different: we went to the park beforehand, and Molly got wet in the water. That being said, her hair is still pretty short and was in no way matted before the Dog Park , nor after. I was first greeted by the manager when I got into the grooming salon. I said so sorry, she normally doesn't come in like this. And the manager said no worries at all, we'll make it work. I felt relieved by that, because of course we don't go to the dog park or get wet just before an appointment! Then the groomer PHOENIX came out, and she seems to struggle with a basic hello, or a friendly greeting...? Because she moved onto saying "I'm gonna have to charge you extra" right away. Wait what? Haha customer Service and politeness on the job has left the chat! "Yeah, she's matted. I'm gonna have to charge you extra." First of all, back when my dog used to have long hair, and when she was matted, no groomer at Petsmart or any other salon in the city ever made this claim. And if they were concerned, they still had customer service skills. No one has spoken this rudely to me in regards to grooming ever, nor should they. Somehow Phoenix circumvents the need to have Customer Service skills, looks at something that isn't severe at all, and claims that she needs to charge me extra. Phoenix seems to think that it's appropriate to speak rudely to people. Or, it's not her fault and she was trained or allowed, somehow, to be this way with some new management..? ‍ As I was pretty surprised at both, her lack of politeness, and at hearing her proclamation of needing to charge me extra, she then stepped over to my dog and checked for any mattedness. And low and behold? My dog wasn't matted! And Phoenix had to concede that my dog was not matted, as she could see all the skin underneath easily. But somehow that was insufficient for Phoenix, and she immediately moved onto the tail. Latching onto the tail, she said "well I'm gonna have to charge you extra because the tail is matted." I was surprised to hear this as well, as in the previous two appointments I noticed that my dog's tail wasn't really fully brushed out. But I didn't want to mention it because if the service is at least of average quality, it's not always necessary to point out an issue. You can let some things pass. It's called social skills to know what you have to bring up, rather than bringing up any little thing and in a rude and unprofessional manner *cough Phoenix cough * Except now, Phoenix claims that her tail is matted but who, Phoenix, also claims that she's been grooming my dog this whole time? Lol who? YOU!!! So it's on who...? to have made sure that my dog's tail has not amounted to a matted tail after months of being with you? Phoenix then proceeds to say "yeah I'm gonna have to charge you extra because I'm gonna have to comb this tail out." Then she also says: "I'm gonna have to cut it. So if you want your appointment today, I'm gonna have to cut it." So which is it Phoenix? Are you going to have to charge me extra because the entire dog is matted? Oh no, that wasn't true and you had to concede to that not being true, because you can't make stuff up... So then you are going to have to charge me extra because the tail is matted? Is that it now? And then you're saying, you'd have to spend extra time combing that tail out (and like I said, the tail has not been combed out very well for a couple times now), all slowly adding up to a matted look. And then you're saying that you'd have to charge extra because you're gonna have to cut the hair off the tail. Which is it? If you're going to want to be this stressed out, rude with your customers - in front of the manager no less - changeable and tricky to deal with, might I suggest 10 years of therapy to get your emotions and stress hormones under control. I've gone through lots of challenges in my life as well. But I have a tad bit of wisdom to never speak to a customer, client or any person at work in that way. Does Phoenix know any of this at all? Or is she being enabled, because her rudeness is encouraged by management? I cannot imagine such a lack of social skills, professional conduct, impolite communication being enabled by management. No one deserves to have to communicate with someone in a store who is erratic, easily agitated, and rude. THUMBS DOWN. read more

Wish I can give BIG FAT 0 STAR for rating! I ordered Dr. Elsay cat litter 40 lbs from Doordash and Uber Eats. First Doordash told me the store do not have it. Then I used Uber Eats to order again, the driver told me the lady at the store said they don't have it. So I requested Arm and Hammer brand, the uber driver said yes they have it but it's$127. I was like "WHAT??" The driver was on the phone with me while I heard the lady and the gentleman spoke to the driver in a very rude and disrespect manner. The driver has a very strong accent and sounded very uncomfortable with their conversation. I then called the store after and confirmed what was happened and told them they didn't first help the driver to find it, said Dr. Elsay's cat litter is out but somehow they found it on the pellet in the store. I also told her that the gentleman was yelling at the driver so loud I can hear it very clear, he had to spend almost 45 mins to find the cat litter. I requested to speak with the manager and she told me she is away from the store and her name is Katrina. I told the lady to write down my name and phone # for Katrina to call me back by the end of the day. This is very unacceptable and someone need to seriously address to these workers how they treat customers not matter what races they are. I will never order from this store again and I will tell all my friends not to order from that store. That caused me a lot of time with 2 different companies to buy ONE item and 2 different drivers too. Very very disappointed! read more

Had an online order placed here, got the email it was ready for pick up. Site said they were open till 8. As I arrived, the guy at the front ignorantly shakes his head at me as I try to go through the closed door. I stand outside attempting to call the store... phones are off... guy sees me outside and comes to the door stomping his feet and clearly frustrated. I ask him very nicely if I have an order already paid for, packed and ready, if I can pick it up. His response was pointed, and ignorant "no, tomorrow" and walked away closing the doors again. There's literally no processing on online orders for these guys. I've order a dozen times and picked it up. It takes 10 seconds to show id and email confirmation and 10 seconds to pass you your product. Their customer service is frequently like this, which is unfortunate and makes other pet stores much more appealing. read more

This is our go to Petsmart. They have pretty decent markdown sections here and we've snagged some seriously awesome cat trees at more than 50% off here as store markdowns. Petsmart runs promotional give-aways a few times a year - watch their social media or sign up for email alerts. Go to items for us here are the Jaxon Galaxy telescopic cat toys. For food, we but grain free at Costco and for litter, we buy wood pellets at Rona (the exact same pellet is sold here for 10X the cost). We took our Sheltie to pet smart in the spring of 2022 for grooming, believing they were a reputable business being around for awhile. Well, I was totally wrong, $86 and all they did was brush his top layer of fur which left fur knots close to his sensitive parts of his body, gave him a bath and a hack job of a haircut. I'll never recommend nor would I take him back to pet smart. read more

I used to go to Petsmart on a regular basis because I had a doc and he was in bad need to obedience training. It was a Jack Russell Terrier so I'm sure you can understand. Through weekly sessions his temperament cooled and he really did become more obedient. Mind you he was still a 200lb dog in a 20lb dog body. The instructors definitely knew their stuff and their love for dogs really showed. I've also bought dog food, toys and accessories here. They have a good selection but their prices are a bit high. They also have a grooming studio for your pet. From my experience buying a dog at a pet store, I would not recommend it. However, Petsmart doesn't sell animals, rather they have an adoption program available for those who are looking for a pet. I haven't heard anything - good or bad - about this program so take your chances. It may be better to go through the SPCA. From pet carriers, kennels, pet food, over the counter reliefs, Petsmart has it all. Check them out if you have a pet. read more

This store has really dropped the ball in customer care over the past few years. We have 3 dogs - 2 Shitzu's and a German Shepard and we always took them to be groomed at this store. There was one particular staff member that was REALLY good and we always made sure that she was the only one who did the dogs. It was shortly after that, she left the store and it went all down hill from there. We took the dogs to that location ..... maybe 3 more times and gave up. The dogs were NOT getting cut as we requested and the time fixing them up was a joke. We continued to shop at this location for fish supplies and just recently, my son has gotten into building a tank at the "intermediate" level. He has a 20gl tank and loves everything in it. We have spent several hundred dollars in gettingt he tank prepped for fish and between this location and a another pet store in St. Albert he has a thriving community. Over the weekend, we were sold 2 catfish and the staff said it was a perfect match for his tank. WRONG! The cat fish disrupted the tank, and caused a great deal of stress to the community. almost 3 days after the cat fish were introduced, we lost 4 Barbs. We went to this location on Sunday and all we wanted was to replace the Barbs we lost ........... We were told flat out - NO The staff actually refused us in purchasing fish because in their veiw, the tank was over popluated with 3 Bala Sharks / 2 Barb's / a bottom feeder and a Dragon Fish. While my wife was talking to one staff member, I stood off to the side and what happened after that - floored me! Two staff members were standing next to the cricket stand and ....... I quote EXACTLY what one said "I f**king hate it when people come into our store, saying that they know someone at another location, and that they think they know more then us" We both left the store completely disgusted in their service and when the wife called back and spoke to the manager on duty, want to know what she was told? ........ I'm not a fan of chain stores as a general rule, but I must say, the grooming team at this Petsmart location has been fantastic for our rather large Great Pyr; Fargo the Dog, Esq., Defender of the House. Clocking in around 85 lbs, Fargo can be difficult to groom if you are not up to the task. The groomers at this Petsmart have taken excellent care of Fargo every time I bring him in, and he always comes out looking great and smelling WAY better. I don't have to remind them to use hypoallergenic shampoo, and they take note of special conditions, like Fargo's age, and his arthritic joints. Bath, nails and a light trim for under $100. The bitches can't help but check him out after his Petsmart groomin', and people like him too! Good dog and cat food selection, clean store, lots of staff, I don't see a reason not to give this location 5 stars, from my personal experience. Of course, you can bring in your pet for a tour, just try not to leave a puddle. read more

We went in for a bag of dog food and a couple chew toys at 8:30pm.The guy in front of us at the check out was very short with the staff member, and with us when we asked if we could pet his chocolate lab puppy. The staff member at the till offered his dog a treat, and the owner allowed it. He left and we were up next. The staff member then offered us a dog treat. We didn't have our dogs with us and she was jokingly offering us the treat to consume, it was a nice way to start our interaction and gave us all a nice chuckle. We bonded over the last customers grouchy-ness and had a great experience. I have been to many different stores late in the evening, and often find the staff are tired and can't be bothered to engage customers well. This was the opposite, we felt engaged and welcome, more like chatting with a friend then a stranger. Our new favourite spot for pet supplies. read more

This is only a review for coming here to buy things, as I have never used their grooming services (I have my own fave place I take them...see review for Perfectly Pampered Paws). I have never had any issues here, always someone to help if I have any questions. They sometimes have great deals/sales. I don't buy that generic dog food crap at grocery stores, so this is one of the few places that carry the natural healthy dog food I only buy (yes, a bit more than what you buy at grocery stores, but aren't our furry friends worth it?). Once in a while I'll even bring my little guy in here to scope out a new toy. On that note, I would suggest to avoid any of the Brett Michaels line of stuffed toys, my guy destroyed one within 2 hours of getting his paws on it (he wasn't great at music and is less so at designing doggie toys haha). And wish they would carry salmon oil here. I find their prices are better than Pet Valu. read more

I've bought a few betta fish here, and I feel bad for them, because they keep them in very small plastic cups. There is no room for them to swim around--only enough for them to survive. Although it's definitely not an ideal environment, since I've seen many of them dead on the plastic cups. The reason they keep them in the cups is because they will fight each other until death, but I still wish there was a better solution. The reason I like betta fish is because they are one of the only fish that can survive without an air filter, although they do need a heater. Most of the people I've talked to at this store have been really knowledgeable, when it comes to fish. I got into a huge conversation with one girl about goldfish. She was definitely a fish nerd--I learned a lot from her. Also, when I was getting set up with my first beta fish, I had some questions about a heater, and I got some good advice for that as well. Sometimes I like to just come here for fun and look at the animals. I especially like to look at the hamsters and the lizards. Some of the hamsters are so hilarious, and a lot of time many of them are simultaneously running on their wheels--it's so cute and funny. The lizards are interesting too, and it's often like a puzzle trying to spot them in their habitat. The prices here aren't too bad, but some items are a little pricey. Surprisingly, I've found cheaper prices at PJ's pets. read more

This is me and my puppy's favourite petsmart. They always have a generous selection! Having multiple species of fur children, I appreciate a good one stop shop for all of my pets needs. The only thing I wish they could carry is more healthy and organic pet foods. Given that it's a large chain store though, it's completely understandable why they don't. I've never used their grooming services because I am a bit cautious based on the horror stories from pet smarts around the continent, but I've never heard bad things about this particular pet smart. They always seem to be pretty busy with repeat customers so it can't be all that bad...at least that's what I'm guessing. They also have a section where local rescues have set up for cat adoptions. If you're thinking about getting a kitty, definitely check them out! Overall, my puppy is never as excited as when he gets to visit this petsmart and all the wonderful employees that work here. I've always gotten quality service and products here and will probably always come back to this location even if there are closer ones to where I live! Last time I ever go to Petsmart. I brought my dog in for grooming, and the staff proceeded to drag my dog which is gentle, shy 11 pound fluff ball, by the neck. Right in front of me, that takes a heck of a lot of nerve. Hell no, my dog is not a mop. This has happened here prior, I'm shocked but relieved the irresponsible staff is dumb enough to do that in front of the owner. I actually just picked up my dog and left, I had some choice words for their teeny bopper staff, before I left. This incompotent staff has assured that I will take my business elsewhere. What kind of pet owner, would I be to entrust my pet to idiots like this? read more

We get the Snout's nails trimmed here every few months. Just a trim, I don't like the idea of grinding. They do a reasonable job for the price - $11. Things that freak me out about this place in the last year or so we've been going, is the fact that they want to take my dog and place her on one of the grooming tables. She usually runs between 90 - 100 lbs, so it's not an easy task to get her up there. She does not enjoy being picked up. Also, by having her on the table, when she tries to get away (again, she's not a big fan of this) I have fears that she's going to fall off the table and the groomer gals will end up injuring her. She's a big dog, I'd prefer her with all 4 feet on the ground, I guess maybe I should just speak up next time. All in all, it's an ok service. read more

We love this PetSmart! The staff are fantastic - we have taken our frenchie here for puppy socialization classes, grooms and obedience training. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable, and whether we come in for a class, a groom or just to buy some new clothes or toys, we end up having to drag our dog out of that store because he does not want to leave! read more

We had taken our 10-year old Australian Shepherd to this groomer for over two years with no issues - every time we'd pick him up, we'd hear how well-behaved and friendly he was, which was also written on the report card. Unfortunately, there have been two incidents in the past year that have left us hesitant to return. He went in for a full groom in November of last year and came home extremely timid and would shy away any time we got close to his head, like he was afraid we were going to hit him. We weren't notified of any issues, behavioural or otherwise. In October, we went in for a nail trim only; because it was quick, I waited in the store. I observed the groomer yank his left back leg rather roughly, but he didn't look bothered at all, so I didn't mention it when he was done. Again, no issues were mentioned, and his report card repeated every other visit - excellent behaviour. After walking him that night, one of his nails on that back left leg started to bleed: apparently the groomer cut the quick; however, she said nothing of this to me. I understand accidents happen - that is precisely why I don't trim his nails myself! - but I do expect to be notified: I'd be much less upset/more willing to give them another shot if she'd been up-front and honest with me. We'll be finding another groomer. read more

I had an appointment to get my dogs hair cut and since I hadn't been in a long time I needed to bring proof of vaccination for rabies for my dog. I brought the paper as to when he had received the shot and since it did not have an expiry date they were unable to take him in. This would have all been fine and I would have rescheduled for a later date but the first words and every single thing the ladies in the grooming salon said to me were in an incredibly rude, attacking way. They were rude to me before I had even spoken more then 10 words. I will never go there again and would recommend no one else does so as not to support this terrible customer service. I will refuse to shop there for any pet supplies as well. read more

Went in at 10 am for my 25 lb. dog, to be groomed and they wanted $106.00. Her legs were matted. Didn't proceed with the appointment.

NEVER AGAIN! If you love your pet I highly suggest avoiding their groomers. They were over booked, the facilities are way to loud (workers were ear plugs), they don't have proper knowledge of the animals, products, or tools used and can not provide information even when you ask questions. My dog is the definition of 'gentle giant' she loves people and other dogs. However 3 hours after I dropped her off I received a phone call asking me to pick her up because she was being 'too difficult' (nipping at the grooming tools) and was stressed out. Then they told me she wasn't even dry yet and they were limited on options because of her breed (they did not have a muzzle that fit or anything else to try) meanwhile they had reassured me that they take dogs of her size all the time. When I picked her up she was very agitated, wet and totally not herself not to mention her coat was a complete mess.... Bringing her there was a mistake I will never make again! Unless your best friend is as sound as a seeing eye dog, I highly recommend that you seek out another groomer. read more

Their cat food selection is terrible. They don't carry any of the high quality cat food, mostly grocery store cat food. Their cat toys do not look appealing. For such a big store, they are very disappointing when it comes to cat needs. read more

I have also had less than optimal experiences here with the groomers. The first time I took my dog in for grooming they were great (which is why I gave them a star). However, they made a mistake and charged me for the previous dog's grooming fee. When I got home they called and told me of the error, and that they would credit me for the difference the next time I brought my dog in. Well, they next time I brought him in, they had no record of this etc. etc. and would not give me the credit, even though they said they had made a note of it on my dog's file. They made a big deal over $10 and refused to give me the credit. Ok fine. So I went ahead with the grooming. My dog is VERY friendly and somewhat excitable. He has separation anxiety and refuses to go into a kennel (he is a rescued dog). It's a good thing they have a window for you to see what is going on. I went back after shopping a bit to see, and my daughter told me she was watching and she said the groomer seemed mad at my dog and put him in the back. I couldn't see him but I could sure hear him! He was shrieking up a storm, stuck in a kennel. When they handed him back, the groomer scowled and told me "he sure doesn't like his bath!" The grooming was supposed to last 2 to 3 hours, but they called me back after an hour telling me to pick him up. They seemed agitated. I now take him to Dazzling Dogs - it is less expensive, the groomers are way nicer and he is allowed to socialize with other dogs, which he loves. He gets so excited when he knows he is going to get his haircut now! He is always worn out and happy when I pick him up too. read more

We use Petsmart at Skyview to have our miniature American Eskimo groomed. We have been twice so far and both times they have done a fantastic job. Our dog can be a bit hyper so I gave them permission to use a soft muzzle if needed. I was delighted to pick her up and have the staff say she was no problem at all and have a positive attitude about her. Also they have great hours so I can get my dog in when it is convenient for me. read more

I decided to have my fish tank become a Guppy tank so I went to Petsmart and purchased 4 Fancy Male and 8 Females. What I'm finding is when the Females are about to give birth they die. NO not 1 but 4 as of right now. Researching this problem it seems that they all must have been inbred. The Males are all fine. Guess I WON'T be spending any more money there. read more
