Training with Michelle was very good for us and our 5-month old Wheaten Terrier. Even though we have had puppies before, we still had a lot to learn or relearn. It is really about teaching us humans what to do and how to be consistent. We really appreciated Michelle's approach and learned a lot. The Flanders location is nice enough with the separate training area like most PetSmart locations have. Separately we also had the groomer trim his nails. She did a very good job. But the grooming area was pretty busy with a lot of hair on the floor. Overall, it was a very nice experience for the puppy and us. read more

DO NOT TRAIN WITH MICHELLE. I have had the worst experience with the store managers and the trainer Michelle. Michelle was incredibly unprofessional towards the end of my training. I took almost all trainings with her and by the end of my training completion she just changed. she was not the good professional caring trainer. complete night and day just turned into a straight b****. no clue what she was going through but do not bring it into your work and throw it on your "clients". it's incredibly unprofessional. by the end I was very uncomfortable and her lack of respect negatively impacted my dogs performance and added on stress. she still owes me two training sessions. I refuse to put my dog in an environment that makes us uncomfortable to fulfill my trainings. I asked to get a refund for the last two classes. the trainer herself (Michelle) advised I take my dog to someone else because how uncomfortable she made me feel. they also have a wall in the training ring where you can put your dog photos up. Well, once I discussed my feelings on my trainings with management and expressed how unhappy I was with Michelle. Michelle then threw out my Polaroids of my dog. I went in a week later asking for the photos and no one knew where they mysteriously went?? which continues to show the lack of professionalism. really, how old are we?- get over yourself and don't touch things that are not yours. it's not yours to decide whether or not the photo stays, especially since there are multiple trainers that allow the photos up. on A happier note-I also trained with steph. STEPH WAS GREAT AND I HAD GREAT EXPERIENCES. overall it is very dissapointing how badly management handled everything and dealt with the trainer and assisting in a refund or transfer to another petsmart. That just don't give a shit. Again, I don't like to negatively bash anyone or company on a review. But I seriously need others to know what kind of experience I went through because the last thing I want is another owner to experience what I went through with that trainer Michelle. Well. First time taking our new puppy to get her nails clipped today and will never come back. My husband said the staff was rude and cruel with our little one which now will make it more traumatizing for when we have to go again. She's a puppy and is clearly new to everything, making literally anything scary. They got so frustrated with her "happy peeing/ nervous peeing," and claimed she was trying to bike them which is unreal considering I'm sure they are used to much larger fully developed dogs with actual teeth before experiencing our puppy. As dog owners we've shopped at all sorts of chain and locally owned pet stores in Northern, NJ and in Upstate, NY. Many of the Petsmart locations are very similar in both setup and product availability...but we really like this particular location. Just over a year ago, a few weeks after we had to put our dog down, we were looking for a new dog (not a replacement since no dog can REALLY replace another). While working with 11th Hour Rescue at this PetSmart location we found our hound mix (Blue Tick Coonhound and Treeing Walker Coonhound) and fell in love with her. Anyway, the staff we worked with here were great and they made the adoption seamless. As for the rest of the 'stuff' in this store, it's no different than any other Petsmart...but if you are going to adopt a dog or cat from 11th Hour-the folks here are awesome. read more

I would recommend anyone looking for dog training classes to sign up with Stephanie at the Flanders PetSmart. Our mini schnauzer had issues with barking at strangers and other dogs but by practicing the methods and adhering to Stephanie's advice, he has become a great dog citizen! She truly loves what she does and it comes through in the class. I've owned and trained dogs on my own with success but needed extra help with this particular dog and Stephanie really helped keep me on track with the training. Keep up the good work!! read more

She is patient, knowledgeable, and very enthusiastic about dog training. The cashier provided a crate for transportation and one of their staff members, April, transported my dog to the nearest 24/7 Animal Hospital - 40 minutes away. NEVER TAKE YOUR DOG HERE. My dog Benji is a 14 year old senior toy poodle with about 3 teeth. We've taken him to this Pet Smart grooming center for over 10 years with consistent good experiences. It seems as though the staff has changed now to inexperienced groomers. They shaved HALF of his body and refused to finish claiming he was biting him and acting aggressive. This has never been an issue with anyone else. When we went to pick him up the groomer had the audacity to not even look at us and explain the situation. Steph is a very good trainer with a great personality. We love what she has accomplished with our boy. Getting a puppy during the current environment has proven to be challenging but pet smart and Stephenie have both worked with us and gone out of their way to get our training in. Luke will definitely be disappointed when he completes all of the training classes they offer and doesn't get to see his friends anymore. My pet trainer, Stephanie is the best! My dog, Sadie absolutely loves her and she's been super helpful to my family too. When in class Stephanie is always super helpful and answers any questions we have. We've done both one and one training sessions and class training sessions, both types of classes she is super great. My husband and I wanted to get a haircut for our dog Fluffy, who is oftentimes fickle and difficult to deal with when it comes to him getting his hair done. After having a hard time with other groomers, we wanted to try PetSmart. We are so glad we did because our experience in the grooming department was exceptional. He was groomed within the hour, which for us is a first! He was groomed by Nelson, who treated us with great service and was very understanding when it came to our dog's strong personality. We will definitely be returning and have personally requested to have Nelson as our groomer every time! We have officially scheduled our appointment 4 weeks from today. I care pretty deeply about my fish, and while the employees here seem to pretend to, I can't feel like they actually do. I've asked for advice at Petsmart twice for new fish, and the additions don't fit into my tank due to aggression (one time) and the need for schooling (another time). I went back, not for my pennies back, but just to mention that their advice had been, well, inadvisable to follow. One woman treated me VERY harshly, saying that she had "been there when ___ gave you advice" and that she had already knew it was doomed (but HE said to do it, and YOU didn't say anything). The selection of fish at the store is pretty good otherwise, and the tanks seem pretty clean, but I'm kinda done with the attitude. read more

Warning, be careful with the relationship with Petsmart and 11th Hour Rescue. I applied for a dog to adopt and was told by PetSmart that I was first on the list. I filled out the application through the 11th hour website. When I asked 11th hour questions they redirected me to Pet Smart. I had a horrible experience with their grooming department. I let the woman know that my dog does not like getting groomed when I dropped her off. The way I was treated when I picked my dog up was truly awful. I spoke with a manager and learned that the salon did not make any arrangements, such as a muzzle, for my dog after I left them know she will be difficult. They were not able complete her grooming and charged the full price for it. Really the worst part of the entire experience was the manager's attitude and the way she spoke to me. My dog has been successfully groomed at a different groomer's since this experience. read more

I was so disappointed in our experience tonight. When we walked in to pick up our dog the first words out of the groomers mouth were negative. She told us our dog pooped the entire time she was working on him and perhaps we should walk him. I was so upset, he had been walked before he went to the groomers but obviously was feeling anxious. When he came out of the back she handed me his harness and said she couldn't put it in him and then as we were leaving the store my daughter noticed his privates were all dirty. Do not take your animal here. My dog of 6 pounds was cut with scissors during grooming by James. He required 5 stitches which one was subcutaneously. When they called me not by the groomer btw, they said he was barely nicked and it was standard to take him to the hospital. My dog has a cone for 7 days, antibiotics, anti inflammatories and I need to take him back for stitch removal. I get there to find out how bad it was and it's been 3 days and not a call to apologize or follow up. Absolutely disgusting behavior. read more

PUPPY TRAINING CLASS WITH LORI. I signed up for the 6 week puppy training class with Lori the dog trainer. She was very good with the dogs but spent part of each lesson reading over the training papers to herself while we waited. She wanted to make sure she covered everything as petsmart changed the curriculum. This was our first training class with a dog and I would NEVER go back if she is there. First off I can forgive the slow class due to reading over the paperwork. After the first class we were told there was no class the next week because her full time job needed her. ok one missed class. Then we had 2 classes and then she cancelled again because of FT job issues. How do I know that... because she spent the first 5 minutes or so of our next class telling us how she was laid off from her job but got a new one right away so all was good. There were 4 families in this class. I know another person was already upset because we missed 2 classes and she signed up knowing it would be over by a certain date. This class also started 15 minutes late because the class before us went late. People were ready to leave. The class still ended on time even though we didn't get our hour. Then we get the call that she is cancelling class again because she has to do a security check with her full time job. Apparently Wednesday at 7pm is the only time she could do this. I am sorry but cancelling our class 3 times was ridiculous. Pet Smart should have a back up trainer OR she should have offered to have our class a different day. We had already decided as a class not to have class on Halloween so that was another class we missed. We signed up with this class to be with other dogs as well as do the training. We showed up for the next class which was our week 5 but was in reality week 9 since we started. Noone else was there. She told us that the other 2 dropped out because they did not like the curriculum. I do not believe that since I know they were already unhappy with the cancellations. There should be consistency with training. First class again started late at 710. No real apology. I mentioned that I was not surprised they dropped out since we have missed so many classes. Well she FLIPS out on us. I had my 10 year old son, 13 year old daughter and husband there. She screamed at us that if we didn't like it then we could ask for our money back like the others. I had already told her we could not make the next class... so at one point she actually screamed at us that is was ok for us to miss a class but not for her to miss a class for her full time job. That her full time job was important. First off I am a customer. I paid for a puppy class. If I choose not to come that is my decision. I do not care about your full time job. If you cannot handle 2 jobs then you should not be here. I did not say that to her but her personal problems have nothing to do with the puppy class I paid for. She said she was done with this "shit" threw her clip board and told us she was not going to have class. at this point I don't think we would have stayed. I told her we missed my childs hockey game to be here. I also asked her to stop screaming and swearing in front of my children. I told her I wanted to speak with a manager and she screamed if you want a manager you get her. The she went and got her. I will say Connie the manager was very good. She remained calm and took care of us. Pet smart also refunded our money. We decided NOT to do any more classes with her. My 10 year old told me after he was so upset he wanted to cry. This should have been a fun family experience. We went back sunday and she is still there teaching a class. The sound of her voice made me nervous. This woman flipped out for no reason. What she should have done was apologize to us for the missed classes and moved on. NOT scream at us. My husband is a pretty mellow guy and he said after that he was on alert because he felt that she might physically hurt one of us. This screaming went on for a good 5-10 minutes. It was very traumatizing. I do believe she is a danger to customers if she is going to flip so fast and scream at her customers. When she tried to say in front of the manager that I attacked her my husband spoke up and said my wife only told the truth which was that 3 classes have been cancelled. I kept my voice very even toned since my children were right there. He told her that she was the one who immediately attacked us. I cannot believe pet smart still has her working there. I would warn anyone that our experience with her was traumatizing and half our classes were postponed. I do believe she is a danger to customers if she is going to flip so fast and scream at her customers like she did. Scary and unprofessional. read more

Scheduled an appt in advance for 10 am. showed up with my dog at 9:55 am to find 3 dogs in front of me. thats fine, no problem, except that the 1 girl clipping another dogs nails didnt know what she was doing, so her manager had to help. no one else was there to take the other dogs. finally at 10:40 am, i was called in. I had forgotten my dogs updated rabies cert, and was not allowed to leave my dog there even after saying i would go home and bring them right back. after bringing all of my dogs here for 10 years, i will unfortunately not be returning. 45 minute wait, short staffed, and dysfunctional to say the least. sad to see when the manager is working. read more

Took my dog in for grooming. She is a miniature schnauzer. I picked her up later and she had one leg shaved and the others left long. The guy who did her-said he forgot that she should have longhair on all legs. Then I saw that her ears still had long hair inside them. I have made 2 purchases of fish from PetSmart in Flanders on 2 separate occasions and unfortunately for me both purchases turned deadly!!!! The first fish infected the tank with mystery snails which infested the tank and the fish started dying. After totally removing fish and throwing out filter and ornaments and starting from scratch, I re-established the tank. Several months later I purchased a bottom feeder and within days my fish started dying. It appears there was some type of ick or other disease and once fully treated for 4 days, the tank is good to go but I lost 50% of my original fish once again!!!! I have 2 neighbors who within two weeks of my purchase, also purchased expensive fish from the same PetSmart and both their tanks were 90% destroyed due to some type of contagion which appears to be ick or other disease. Both my neighbors are experienced fish tank folks, so with this being said, I do believe people need to really think twice before purchasing any fish from this particular PetSmart. Just a note - when fish shopping take a REALLY GOOD LOOK at the fish, the tank which I just recently notice have the mystery snails and also notice if there are ANY dead fish as I do see this is extremely common in this store but you really need to watch and notice these things before purchasing. Also, they have a tendency to blame you, your tank and anything else but them taking responsibility for selling sick fish. read more

I agree with another review that this location used to have such nice people. I took my dog a couple of weeks ago and they really do look like a girl grunge band trying to get back together. I don't like to judge based on looks but really, try to at least show a little professionalism. Beyond that, they look way too young to be "professional" groomers. I was hesitant to leave my dog but did anyway (that is on me). It was just for a bath and nail trimming. An hour later I get a call that she is having problems standing up and was shaking. She is a little nervous being groomed but not bad- I mean, what dog isn't for the most part? It turns out she really needed to go to the bathroom. I canceled the appointment that I had for my other dog. I went to a lovely local groomer in Stanhope (Doggy Depot). I would not recommend PetSmart anymore for grooming. read more

Lauren was amazingly helpful, flexible, and my puppy loved going to training class. I saw a huge improvement in her behavior after taking her week after week. Worst place to take your pet! People are rude as you enter into the store. Then you ask for one service, they give you a completely different one blaming that the dogs are skittish. My one dog sits for the vet and cooperates completely for shots and check ups each time. Asked them to just give me my pets and stop talking to me, which they refused. I said I'd take them someplace else for their haircuts. To expect poor reviews to which they responded that I could even contact corporate while I'm at it. I have been a customer with the grooming salon here for years however I will no longer bring my dog to this grooming salon. The staff used to be fantastic, very knowledgeable and friendly and did a fantastic job. I used the same groomer for a years, but as of a few months ago i was told she was no longer there as well as all the other familiar faces I knew were gone. I tried again anyways out of desperation, but the staff now truly seems incompetent and rude. I had an issue with I believe it was sue or something like that who was just rude and mean to the dogs when I watched from the aisle. I have been bringing my dog to PetSmart for years and have had a pleasant experience. I recently moved, but still traveled to get there. I had set up an appointment and told them it would take me over 40 minutes to get there. When I arrived they welcomed my pet and asked if there were any issues they should be aware of. I had mentioned that he wasn't feeling well for ONE DAY, but has since been absolutely fine. The manager came out and refused to groom my dog, even though I assured her he was "completely" fine and has been ever since. I have since found a much better grooming salon on route 53 in the Morris Plains area that I HIGHLY recommend. They never turn a pet away and treat your pet like royalty. NEVER AGAIN will I use PetSmart. read more
