I was interested in possibly adopting a kitten for my granddaughter but wanted to see how she interacted with one of the kittens . I was told by someone up front that we had to do some paperwork in order to handle the kitten, but we weren't under any commitments . When we returned to the enclosure to do that another girl said we could only do it if we were committed to the adoption . I got multiple phone calls from different people trying to downplay it like it was just a skin graze but then I got a call from the in house vet saying she's sending him home with medicine and a cone?! For perspective, this will be my first time going out of my way to leave a negative review for a business. If genuine care is a priority, reconsider visiting the Banfield clinic inside the pet smart in Hamburg, Lexington. More so, ensure that Elder is not the vet during your visit. We recently visited with our dog for apparent allergies. Before he was even examined, the nurse suggested a dozen different services such as blood work, x rays and prescriptions.. BEFORE THE DOCTOR HAD EVEN LAID EYES ON MY DOG..? They even suggested signing up to pay for some premium subscription... to a clinic..? We declined. After examination, Dr. Elder returned with our dog to confirm it was allergies. We agreed to a couple treatments that would cure his irritation. Yet, she too suggested 10 different services that had nothing to do with itchy skin. But for whatever reason she felt the need to harass us and condescendingly ask us 4/5 more times. Her undertone was as if she were attempting to bully us into agreement. Again, these all were services that were unrelated to our reason for visiting. Our patience grew thin each time we had to repeat ourselves. The last straw was, after declining for the 5th time, Elder stated, "When your dog gets sick and dies from something random, I will be able to say I told you so."... We did not respond. We let what she said fill the room. We stared at her until she awkwardly left. She knew what she said was wrong. She didn't even have the heart to return. She sent the nurse back in to complete our visit. I only stayed for the whole visit because I couldn't let my pride get in the way of making my dog feel better. Dr. Elder is not someone I would trust. Elder, when you see this, you know what you said. Regardless of how many people I help with this review, when you lay your head down at night I hope your words replay over and over. Do not visit this vet unless you have the ability to say no!!! They will quote and up sell you like it's a car lot and then judge you for not complying If it were a bad restaurant or hotel I wouldn't bother. But pets are like children. I had run out of dog food for my dogs but had to work. I placed an online order for pick up. I got off work at 8:30pm on a Saturday and PetSmart closes at 9pm. I got there in a nick of time as I was walking through the door around 8:56/8:57pm. I was "greeted" by a male store worker at the door who appeared to be waiting to lock the doors and he appeared to shake his head in disgust as I walked in the store. I've worked in retail in the past and I know it's frustrating for a customer to walk through the door near closing time when the workers have been there for hours and are ready to leave for the day. But please, try and hide your disgust/frustration from a customer. If I could have come earlier I would have, but I have been working multiple overtime shifts. read more

I was in line to be helped by Maddy (she is so sweet!) when the elderly white female worker with gray hair interrupted our conversation as if Maddy was unable to process multiple returns. This elderly woman is rude to me every time I shop there. The military instilled common manners in me so I am typically as polite as possible to rude folks, especially here in Kentucky. I had to do multiple returns since I'm not able to get to petsmart to return items every time I need to and the situation was handled poorly by this cranky elderly woman. At first another associate walked over to her for assistance and the elderly woman worker (maybe a supervisor since she had a key) said "I'll help you when I'm done with this MESS of a return" and then told me "it's going to take me a long time to go through these transactions, I hope you have all day to wait". Throughout the entire event she had a condescending and bullying remark for each return item reason, provided unsolicited medical advice as if she were a veterinarian, and took my returns personally as if they were coming out her paycheck vs the multi-billion dollar company she works for. Altogether, customers at this store should not be subjected to this elderly woman's badgering when making return and talked down to as if being elderly provides you a sort of entitlement to talk to young folks however you please without repercussion. I checked out Feeders Supply today and will take my two Sphynx cat's needs to their business from now on. read more

This place is dangerous. I walked in to get a fuzzy cat toy and I walked out with one kitten and one adult cat to their forever home. Petsmart in Hamburg! THE SMELL IS HORRIBLE!! We tried to go see the dogs and sadly the smell was so bad. My 3 year old instantly covered his nose when we walked in there and we walked straight out. I tried to go see the puppies and couldn't stand it had to walk out. I feel horrible for the dogs it really seems inhumane. They need to find people who actually care its ridiculous. read more

DON'T TRUST THIS PLACE! Brought my dog in for a haircut and he was 100% fine no issues or pain or any type of discomfort at all, was jumping around the back seat of the car the whole way there. 2 hours pass I get a call that he's ready so I go pick him up everything is totally fine no one voices any concerns or anything said he did totally great. Paid for the services and left and after about 10 minutes I get a call saying they couldn't clip one of his nails because it was almost completely broken off exposing the meat, yet the nail HAS OBVIOUSLY BEEN CUT and snapped off SIDEWAYS. And now all of a sudden he can barely walk, and I have to take him to the vet and pay for that out of pocket on top of the haircut they refused to refund and of course they just happened to forget to mention it until after I paid and left. We were at Petsmart in Hamburg on 19 june 2022. We adopted 3 kittens from the Paris animal shelter. As I was filling out the paperwork I had to ask the male representative to please keep people from touching the kittens. There was at least a mom and her daughter who kept touching them and a group of 3 who also touched them during this time. The kittens had not been dewormed as we were told as they had tape worms we found out the day after we got them. and they were diagnosed with ringworm earlier this week. All those people who touched the kittens may now be infected along with all the other animals those people all touched just in our line of sight. And anyone else who had touched them or their pets they had brought in with them before we came in. When I called to let Paris animal shelter know they did not get back to me till the next day and told me they were sorry but it wasn't their fault. They had gotten the kittens from someone else But the Paris animal shelter are the ones who had possession of the kittens and it was their paperwork I signed to adopt the kittens. They are the responsible party. I was also never informed the kittens had supposedly come from anyone but the Paris animal shelter. Ringworm is hard to get rid of. It will take at least 6 weeks of treatment and constant cleaning and sanitizing. All of the other animals the Paris animal shelter had there that day were also exposed at least by those who had to touch the kittens and then go on to touch the other kittens and dogs. And now my husband, myself and the cats and dogs all have to be monitored to make are we have not already been infected. My advice is to find someone else to adopt a pet from. We are looking at hundreds if not thousands of dollars in vet bills, cleaning supplies, and the furniture and rugs we have had to throw away due to the Paris animal shelter not being responsible and making sure the kittens had not been exposed and did not keep the other animals or people from being exposed. read more

When my 17+ year old cat passed in the Spring, a few days later I found an irresistible 8-week old black, long haired kitten brought in by the Danville Humane Society. Blacks, I'm told, are difficult to adopt out. He's curled up next to me as I write this review. The volunteer crew was great. At Petsmart, I can find pretty much anything I need for my animal family members (cats, rabbit, bearded dragon). I usually shop at other places closer to home, but go to this Petsmart when I need particulars or more options (especially for the beardie). This is a good location -- spacious, clean, supplied, friendly, busy. Always a lot of people (and pets!) shopping here. Yeah, it's a big corporation but sometimes you can't find what you need at the smaller, local shops. I also like that they partner with one of the local shelters/organizations for pet adoptions. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I got three fish from there and I am down to one. The person who bagged my fish decided it was a great idea to pick the fish up with his fingers and throw them into the bag. They were out of water and were very small. He was extremely rough with them and I am assuming that's why my fish died because he crushed them with his big meaty fingers. Very sad and disappointed I had a whole family of fish and now I'm just down to one that swims next to the glass so he can see his reflection and isn't constantly alone. read more

Cashier Tina is a terrible employee who should absolutely not be permitted to work with the general public. The management of this store is abysmal. They kept opening new lanes in a super busy day, without taking the people who had been waiting the longest. Tina would not move her lane along -- she kept conversing with a single group, while the lines kept growing and people kept waiting. 20 minutes as the "next" person in line, while other cashiers kept pulling people from further back, and then Tina walked away without a word. PAINFULLY understaffed every day of the week. A recent Sunday visit had 2 cashiers open with lines 6 deep at each register and they were the only staff members in the whole store. There was a supervisor sitting in an office on a computer who came out a couple times, walked around to the registers and went back to sit in her office, I guess she isn't trained on the registers. If they can't afford to pay living wages to attract staff, they need to move items to levels normal humans can reach. My tip for getting items off 10 foot shelves, go to the dog section and get the extendable pooper scooper, fully extend it. Climb up on the lowest shelf and use the scooper to slowly drag the item closer and closer to you until you can grasp it and pull it down. Dangerous? Yes, but necessary if you are not 9 feet tall. I need items only Pet Smart carries but will only be ordering online from now on, a "quick trip" to get some litter took over 45 minutes. PetSmart nets $7 billion a year but pays associates $10/hr and it shows in their lack of staff. read more

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! When they reopened their grooming salon at the end of May I called and had difficulty trying to get through to anyone. After being sent back and forth to grooming and the front of the store I eventually spoke with a man who said he could make my dog's grooming appointment since the grooming salon seemed to be too busy to answer the phone. The next available date was for a month out on June 26, 2020 at 10:00am. I made the appointment and he went through all of my information to assure me it was done and in the system. By the time June 25, 2020 (today) rolled around I called to confirm since I hadn't received an email confirmation. I was then told they did not have an appointment in their system. I was put on hold and when the woman got back on the phone she told me that they had issues with the employees at the front of store making appointments without putting them into the computer system. They offered to reschedule him but at this point we had already waited a month and he has a lot of fur and has been suffering in the heat of the Summer. Apparently the next available date they had was July 3, a week after his original appointment was scheduled. We are going out of town on July 3 for the weekend and that is literally the only day we can't come in for an appointment. I explained they needed to get him in anytime from June 25-July 2 and I could come in day or night to get this taken care of. They were not understanding and said I should try Richmond, KY location (40 minutes away). I was desperate and tried them but they were booked even farther out. I called back and was again told how they had nothing available, I barely got a sorry. They did offer a discount but at this point I will pay more than full price to get my dog groomed. I was put in touch with the Manager who said the same crap the other woman did. It is their fault and their HUGE mistake so if they have to open early or close late to make the situation right and relieve my poor dog of the heat then that is what they should do. I've taken my dog here multiple times and planned on making them my forever groomer but I will never ever return or spend any money at this location or other PetSmart locations. I am appalled and disgusted at the lack of professionalism and highly recommend you take your animals elsewhere. read more

We decided to take our dogs for lessons at this Petsmart. Becca is the best trainer I have ever had. She is outgoing and has a ton of patience with not just the dogs but with their owners as well. She is not afraid to answer all of your questions after class too. She squeezes in some time between classes even though they are back to back. The customer service in the store itself has always been great. Prices seem the be a little high for food and supplies and grooming. The price for the lessons though is well worth it. read more

I signed up for a training class online to start on March 23. I received a text from my trainer on March 17 saying I had missed my first class--not true. After following up, I found out my class had been cancelled, without any official notification from PetSmart. The trainer tried to convince me to do another day or class, but my schedule didn't allow me to commit. She told me to call the manager for a refund. I did. She said they could not process it online and that I'd have to come in store. I went in and was told that despite their cancellation of the class, they were "making an exception" for my circumstance. Finally got my money back after so much back and forth because their failure to plan and communicate. Not sure what their training is actually like, but will not be using them in the future.
