Buddy loves the groomers here. He is thrilled when we open the car door in the parking lot. All his grooming needs are well taken care of. Questions are always asked/ clarified beforehand re: possible health issues and grooming preferences. He has a summer cut and a winter version. Toenails are clipped. His very long ear hair is trimmed. (Ends up in his food otherwise. He gets upset when you try to clean the hair with a washcloth.) We've been coming here for years. Never had any problems. (This is not a given. There was a very serious incident with another groomer in the area.) Would recommend this facility. read more

Worst service of any pet store in the area. My daughter and I have been going here for fish every Thursday for the past 15+ weeks and never once have I been served in under 15 minutes of waiting. I've had the manager walk by me multiple times while I stand there and wait, never once offered to help or get an employee to help bag fish for me. Cashier's stand and watch us as we wait, chit chatting with other employees. Tonight we waited 30+ minutes before leaving without fish. Asked a cashier on my way out how I can get better service in the future and he just made excuses and told me I should search around the store because nobody works in the live animal department at night... Absolutely would not recommend this store. read more

Smart a$$ cashier commented on my dog being overweight, which she is but she doesn't know us or her or anything about her background. Well, how about the fact that the cashier was overweight about 3 times the amount my dog is. I came in for my dog's grooming appointment 3/15/26 at 11:15 am. There was no one in the front of the grooming section, which is not a big deal, they take care of things in the back all the time. I rang the button for assistance and patiently waited. An employee walked in shortly thereafter and, assuming she was responding to the bell, and because I was raised with manners, I acknowledged her entry. She literally walked right past me, not even making eye contact, and proceeded to the back of the grooming area. For context, it is a cozy little area where you can't possibly miss seeing or hearing someone even if you tried! I thought long and hard, giving her the benefit of the doubt, as I continued waiting. Only to realize there is no excuse to be a manager (I confirmed if she was the manager with the employee who assisted me afterwards) at a pet store of all places, and be so outlandishly rude. The saving grace was the employee who came out afterwards and reminded me of the kind people who DO work there that have kept me coming back over the years. Thank you for making the experience more palatable. But to the manager- reconsider your career choices because you lack the professionalism, customer service, and social skills necessary - you helped remind me of just how many other groomers there are between Rockton and Rockford to choose from who would be delighted to have my business. read more

This place is a joke. Under knowledge staff make for transfer of un healthy animals. Purchased a bearded dragon and was told it was young and her feet would strengthen, however turns out this dragon had neurological issues as well as calcium deficiency. By the time we figured out, it was over a week so they would not honor the replacement of the dragon so we decided to go to the veterinarian and find out exactly what was going on. We knew there was a calcium deficiency however, we also found out that our dragon has a neurological issues. And never should've been put on the floor for sale. Costing 136.00 dollars to diagnose. And we contact corporate and nothing was done.. in my personal opinion this store should be closed. This is not the first time that they have had problems and it won't be the last use. Caution as you purchase here. read more

The staff at this store lacks any sort of professionalism. I go out of my way to shop local and every single time in here I have been chastised or ignored by staff. Before they had the pick-up orders area they wanted you to block the road in front of the store and call in vs park near the front door and call in with your vehicle color and make/model, etc. If blocking the road is what you wanted then you should have specified and perhaps clarified that it wouldn't be illegally blocking a fire lane like signs elsewhere say? Clarifying something-civilly, politely and ONCE-is fine. Repeatedly reaming someone out is not. If you move something-like crickets-then don't yell at me for not standing in the exact same location for the 20min+ it took you to get them and spend 5min+ lecturing me about how I am such an inconvenience. Add a bench or ask me to stay in one location ("Please wait here") if you don't want people to move and look at your products nearby. Also, a lame compliment about my dress when they realized they overstepped isn't an apology and isn't going to change my opinion that they are unfriendly, unhelpful and unprofessional. I guess I'll move to ordering everything online from a different retailer that doesn't charge such a premium for products and shoddy service. read more

Didn't feel comfortable at this location. As I was looking around for a fish tank for a hamster (around the beginning of winter). I wanted something big and spacious for good quality toys. I was browsing and a manager popped out of no where and thought I was trying to steal something and then he insisted on getting a cage and telling me that the fish tank will kill the animal. The funny thing is that, that isn't true with a proper set up. Also, cages are not great either as they can climb, hurt themselves and even get caught onto it. Now my hamster is climbing all over this cage and I regret buying it because I knew what I was doing with the fish tank with proper ventilation. I also own a dog as well so I was in the dog bed section while he assumed I was being suspicious. He literally knew where I was at and walked around the corner quickly, talking to me (as if he was looking at the camera). Also!! The most ironic thing was I was the only minority in the entire store. Never coming back and screw that manager. Seriously. read more

My wife and I just bought a 6 week old kitten (not from here) but we have needed a lot of new kitten supplies, and this place is nice because you can shop with your fur baby and it has everything under the sun you may need and want, although it is higher priced. But one of the perks is they price match online prices. We found a pet carrier online on The petsmart website for $50.00 and in store it was $90.00. When we checked out all we did was show them the website item and they price matched it right there no questions asked. So always look online at everything your purchasing before you pay. :) read more

I made an appointment online for my dog to be groomed at the Pet Smart in Machesney Park a week ahead of time. I received a text confirmation confirming his appointment and then and two separate text reminders for his appointment over the following week. Then on the day before his appointment I received a text stating that it was canceled. I called them to find out why and the only explanation that they could give me was "it just didn't work out for them" and that they had filled his spot. I then remembered that the last time I took my dogs in to the same place after booking online, when we arrived they told me that our appointment had been canceled, but when I told them that no one had contacted me, they "sqeezed them in." I spoke to another groomer and she informed me that they probably did this because my dog is a large breed, long haired dog that takes them longer to bathe and groom and they realized that they could fit a few small dogs in his slot and make more money. This is just wrong and I am posting this to warn others about this rude and unethical practice. read more

Okay, I will admit, on rainy days, instead of taking my paper-trained dog outside for exercise, I will occasionally take him to Petsmart to walk the aisles. I suspect Petsmart is aware of this but have been polite enough to let me slowly browse the store several times each week without bothering me. I really appreciate that. I also appreciate the puppy classes which are flexible enough to fit my very complicated schedule and the nice staff who answer all my crazed first-time pet owner questions. read more

They need to revamp their check-in and pick-up procedure. A line snaking outside the grooming area is unacceptable. If an appointment is scheduled at 2, they should be able to stick to that schedule. And only having 1 person servicing that line of people waiting to drop off or pick up is ridiculous. read more

Made apt for puppy first grooming, made clear the exact birth date and puppy had all shots up to date but hadn't yet received rabies, came in to be told puppy couldn't be groomed without rabies. Came home and website says "puppies and kittens between 8weeks and four months may receive services in the saloon without vaccinations" well puppy is not yet four mths, called to ask and they claim she can't be groomed, the manager was no help and rude and hung up on me when I told her I would take my services elsewhere. Why did they even let me make an apt in the first place?! Waste of time! So even though they say you can get your puppy groomed there you can't, Unless they have rabies shot which puppies that young don't... Don't waste your time read more

The first time I was charged double the actual price at the register and on 11/10/17 I was charged 25% more than I should have been. My 1 year old Bichon mix had hip surgery a month ago, incision has healed, and he has had the sutures removed. He has been bathed and groomed since then at at Pet Smart on 173. Today I took him to the State street store and they tell me they won't even touch him because they found that he still has ONE suture... so it's 6:30 pm and they call me back and tell me that the vet associated with them, Banfield, will remove the suture and then they can do him.. I tell them great! Do it!... Then they tell me I have to come down and and take him (carry him 15 feet) to the vet.. Sign a paper and pay 20.00 up front.. before they will do it.. By the time I get down there from Roscoe, (a 30 minute drive in traffic) it would be 7, by the time he sees the vet, 8, then done with grooming.. 9.. Or later. My appt was 4:30. I asked if they would at least bathe him.. They said no.. I told them I agree with their policy if it were a fresh incision with fresh sutures... But to refuse when the incision is obviously well healed, and after their other store has already bathed and groomed him since surgery... I felt was ridiculous... And I would be picking up my boys and taking my business elsewhere... They were not even willing to attempt a compromise and have the vet take a phone consent and let me pay when I picked them up... Was totally unreasonable.. All for one suture. read more
