The boarding kennels we normally trust back home in NH were completely booked, so we decided to bring our dog, Moose, with us and find a doggie daycare where he could stay while we visited some of the attractions that weren't dog-friendly. I found Mutty Paws Academy on Google and called to explain our situation. From the very beginning, they were incredibly kind, understanding, and accommodating. Even though we were tourists from out of town, they were willing to welcome Moose into their daycare program and work with our vacation schedule. Then, because apparently our vacation needed one more plot twist , Moose got sprayed by a skunk the night before his first day! I called Mutty Paws expecting that we would have to cancel, but instead they were so understanding. They told us that if we gave him a good bath at the Petco Self Wash, they would still take him. They even allowed us to drop him off later than normal so we had time to get him cleaned up. Because of the smell, he had to spend his first day doing daycare solo, which they were completely fine with. And they went above and beyond by giving him **another bath at no charge**! The next day, Moose still had a little bit of that lovely skunk smell lingering , so I assumed he would have another solo day. But the staff evaluated him and decided he was good to play with the other dogs. He seemed to absolutely LOVE it! When we brought him in for his second day of daycare , he was happy to go in and he returned tired and content. We had also scheduled him for a third day, but after everything we had already spent replacing things, doing endless laundry, bathing the dog, and ultimately upgrading from our tent to a cabin because of the skunk disaster, we decided we didn't need the third day. I called that morning to cancel, and once again, they were incredibly understanding and **didn't charge us a cancellation fee**, even though it was last minute. I honestly can't say enough good things about Mutty Paws Academy. They were flexible, compassionate, accommodating, and clearly cared about making sure Moose was comfortable and happy. They turned what could have been a very stressful situation into something we could actually laugh about. If you're visiting the Old Orchard Beach area and need a safe, caring place for your dog, I **highly recommend Mutty Paws Academy!** We are so grateful they were willing to help us out, especially after our unexpected skunk encounter. A month passed and I wrote a bad review and she erased it! That tells me a lot about her work ethic...there is none! Find someone else, it's sure not worth $75/hour!

Within a few minutes Elsa had approached Cal in such a way so that Cal stopped barking and was calm enough to start the training. Elsa instructed me on the appropriate way to train Cal and then watched as I then followed her instructions. I really appreciate her letting me take control for majority of the session and for bringing yummy high value treats for Cal. When the session was over I felt confident in my skills to train Cal. I would recommend Elsa. She is reliable, a fast communicator, backs up her training with research articles, and shows obvious knowledge in dog training. She followed up Cal's session with an email reminding me of the points we went over which was very helpful for my foggy short term memory. The strongest positive I can say about this store is that it is where my wife and I have bought our ferrets. They have been healthy and happy in both the sense of when we bought our lovely pets but also anytime we have seen others here available to purchase they have seemed to be well treated and healthy. I know this cannot always be said for some of these major pet chain stores. They do offer a selection of ferret accessories as well such as hammocks/toys/food for some examples. The staff have been friendly during our interactions and try their best to help when we have questions. The store is kinda outdated in some sense and could be cleaned up in some places too. It's kinda what you'd expect from a Petco really.

The owner of the kitten went to the exam area (open area) and the vet was dismissive of her questions- she said she needed to draw blood - there were 2 techs with the vet. THIS VET POKED THAT KITTEN 4 times and STILL COULDN'T hit a vein. All I could hear was that kitten crying out. The whole store heard it!!! The vet just didn't care - she was going to keep on going until she was confronted with her ineptitude- then she started yelling. Other customers were visibly upset and said they would never go there for any kind of pet services. DO NOT GO THERE!

Between the owners Terresa and Taylor who are just so so nice, fun and compassionate, to the rest of their staff they're all genuinely happy to see my boy Tucker and seem to enjoy what they do which is so rare. I'm never worried that the staff can't handle a situation with all the dogs in the yard which I've felt before with other doggie day cares. Taylor makes sure everyone outside with the dogs has a good calm energy, which when your working with a pack this size you need. I was worried too about the hot summer weather that it would make the turf too hot for the dogs but they do a great job flooding the turf with the hose so the dogs can cool off, they also have great frozen treats you can purchase for them to give your dog during the day. Tucker has never been happier with a daycare, nor more tired when he comes home, which to me and I'm sure most dog owners is the sign of a successful day. Thank you A1K9.

I had a very bad experience here. I was told one thing and a very different day happened for my…read morepuppy. He was left alone in a crate in a "cabin" with no toys to chew. I was told he would have a playmate, that didn't happen. That cabin is a room with nothing in it. I was told later there was miscommunication about his day. He was traumatized for being left alone and I was charged $80. I got an email that my puppy was spilling his water in his bowl and panting after they told me he swallowed a metal hook that was on the crate they put him in. I am pretty sure all puppies spill their water also why was a metal hook put anywhere near his crate in a room unattended. They double lock the crates so the dogs wont get out for "safety" yet they leave them alone to chew the lock and swallow part of it. They all seem fearful of everything and not experienced with puppies or how to do business. We went over everything the day before what his day would look like. His day was nothing near the plan we went over. They still had the audacity to charge me after all of that. This place is not worth the money they charge not even close. In response to this email screenshot I posted, of course he is stressed he was kept in a crate all day and he just swallowed a metal clip. I told the owner and the shift lead the day before, I don't crate my puppy, they reassured me he would not be in a crate at all. That wasn't true. They could have called me or text to tell me this. Because it was an email, I received it later. They told me because he is not fixed he was kept alone. They shamed me for not having him fixed yet, he is a young puppy! Over all terrible experience. These people are mean!

Then I heard about The Bark Yard from a friend who loved this place-as did her dog. We decided to try it with Evelyn. She absolutely loves going to this fabulous facility. I say facility but really its like a big comfy place for Evie to play with other dogs. The groups are small and dogs are placed together based on personalities, etc Its kind of like driving your young child to school and have them run off with their friends forgetting to turn around and wave at the you, the parent. Evie never looks back. I'd say this is a true sign that she loves this doggie day care for its staff, the other dogs as well as the nurturing environmentshe is surrounded by. (I was just being a new dog owner, looking for advice and reassurance) But I got shown the door and was treated as though I had committed some unforgivable offense. Completely bewildering experience. When I would be driving over the bridge to go, they started to get really excited because they knew where we were going. She has an amazing way with dogs, and has a great back yard for them to roam in. They learn about getting along with other dogs, or I guess the better term is "they become part of the pack". I feel that my dogs became better dogs because of Julie's guidance. Dances with Dogs is an amazing, nurturing place for puppies and dogs.
