RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. Brought our dog in for grooming. They couldn't handle her because of her size (but they let us walk out. She is a 115 lb labrador)- They called us ten minutes later, left a message to come get her. My husband called them back immediately and said "no problem, I am on my way" -- He was only one mile away....He was then told "we gave her a bath and cut her nails, I am drying her, give us another twenty minutes" - (We took her in for a full package deal, bathing, teeth, nails, anal glands, de-shedding, etc) .. When my husband arrived, he politely said "next time, if you cannot do what we brought her in for, just please dont do anything at all " (Now we have to take her somewhere else, and he would have just picked her up like he said he would.). The employees became unhinged, and retaliated with rude remarks telling him he should be grateful for what they did - they did us a favor by discounting the cost (ok?? lol to that) - and the gentlemen told him to take our dog and get out. (this went from 0 to 60 in a hot minute- for no reason). (and yes, my husband paid for the services they did) The issue was not the bathing, or paying for the bathing.. The issue is that they were the rudest , unprofessional people arguing with my husband. The two ladies and gentleman with the colored hair (we dont know their names) were so incredibly disrespectful, I would never send anyone to this location. There was attitude from the very beginning- for no reason. I will be calling corporate. We have never been spoken to like this. (this excludes Rosemary, who acted professionally and sat there quietly while her coworkers felt the need to shame my husband in front of other customers). I've been here a few times and always have a good experience. I had to go twice today, once to return something and the second to pick up some fish! The first time, average normal interactions. Second time? OMG!!! Lara!!! What an AMAZING OUTSTANDING Experience!!! She is knowledgeable, kind, great listener, she has excellent people skills and is absolute joy to be around. I honestly think if she was there every time I went to the store I would have gone broke really fast because Her Sales skills are top notch. I contacted the store about this and never heard back (after 4 days) so I'll post my review here. I brought in my toy poodle for a basic grooming ($54-ish). Right away I was upsold for the better shampoo and conditioner, and a special "Package" that included nail grinding, a holiday bandana and a "gift". I don't recall the other "extras" offered. I asked for shaved paws and flaired "boot" legs. I picked her up as I was racing to a meeting. Her fur looked beautiful, (thus a star) BUT, no flaired legs, no shaved feet, no nail clipping and grinding, no bandana or gift, AND they didn't trim or clean her butt or lady bits! She actually had a small 1/4" turd under her tail. And for this, I paid $98.00!!! I complained and got no response. Thus they significantly over charge and under perform. read more

I had my dog in for a bath and trim. She is an older dog and when I left I noted she was limping badly. The lady told me she was old and she had some trouble trimming her paws. It is twenty four hours later now and she is not doing very well. I don't know what happened while she was there but some how she was injured. I will nor go back there again. read more

I was in on Thursday after I called and was assured the fish shipment would be in, I arrived at the exact time the fish were delivered so when I asked about looking, Jason ( I think or some other J name) told me it would be an hour or so. That was understandable. I came back over an hour later, he was not there but a worker named Catt was now standing at a flat top writing on a pile of food??? Or something and chatting with a guest/ friend with another worker, didn't catch her name but she had gages in her ears I asked Catt if they had any Betta fish in today, she wasn't sure and asked gages, she looked and saw the box on the floor still covered...I told her I was looking for a particular fish and could I just take a look to see if I was able to see them. She said no, all the while chatting and laughing w guest while gages just stood there, I told her i drove quite a way to get it and asked how much longer, was told they couldn't say but perhaps an hour. Needless to say I left without even the neon I was also going to purchase. I went to the Meijer store and got my 30 dollars worth of neon, they didn't have Betta but at least they were there for great customer service! I will now drive the other direction for my fish needs. The fish department is less than favorable. I've been a fish keeper for 20+ years and it looks like they pick and choose who to lecture on fish keeping. So glad I found Aquallations. Perhaps this store needs to train their staff on actual fish keeping if they expect them to dole out advice, then argue as if they're correct. No need to state your level of expertise either. The 19 year old will continue to tell you why you're incorrect. Watching a sick betta bobble at the top of a tank, while being *blasted* by the filter, is one small level of ridiculous. I won't be back. So glad that TC offers other great pet stores. read more

The sales person was nice and knowledgeable. But I bought 4- fish from this place and they died within 24-hours. I did everything I was supposed to do but they still died. I wasted $15 on these fish and I know that doesn't seem like a lot but it is when you're on a fixed budget. I feel like I was ripped off. read more

I got 2 ghost shrimp here less than a week ago, and yesterday one of them died out of the blue, the next day the other. They were in a lightly planted 5 gallon tank with a filter and a heater and plenty of spaces to hide, I've had this tank stock with ghost shrimp as pets for over 3 years, and I've never had them die so fast. Maybe they thought I wanted them as food for other fish? Even so, very sad. Missing my shrimps jack and jill. read more

Really nice store, a lot of options for nearly every pet and very clean. The employees are very nice and always helpful with finding products and loving on our animals. They do have a lot of safety precautions with COVID and if they don't have something in stock they give us the best alternative or let us know when they expect more. They have been low on pets right now understandably, but what they are are healthy and they have a wait list of you're looking for a specific pet. Overall good store and people. read more

Being from Grand Rapids, we are used to a variety of pet supply stores to choose from. We recently relocated to Traverse City to find the only option here was this one single Pet Smart store. They have a monopoly and they know it. They treat their customers poor and provide attitude when questions are asked. I've found they also like to lecture you on their opinions of what you are doing wrong based on the questions you ask. Birds are poorly taken care of here as well. I would rather drive 2 hours to Grand Rapids for supplies before every stepping foot in this place again. read more

I really, really love the way Petsmart runs its business. They are clean, efficient, and extremely helpful. With an in house vet and their adoption corner through A.C. Paw they are a great place to visit. They are a little expensive, but when it comes down to it, my babies are worth it. Plus they have a Pet Perks card that discounts a lot of the stuff they offer throughout the store. Kind of an instant savings type deal. They also offer coupons and more discounts via e-mail and online opportunities. A really great business. Make sure, as a pet owner, to check them out. read more

My friend and I were driving around Traverse City trying to find a beach canopy tent for our dog. Knowing that summer is coming to an end soon we were unable to find anywhere that sold it for a decent price. We decided to try Petsmart as a last option. I looked online ahead of time and saw they had a dog canopy in stock. We walked in and looked around for awhile until we decided to ask a worker. The worker, not even hesitating immediately says "no we don't carry that" with a rude tone and an uninviting look on her face. Without even attempting to try to help or look she turned around leaving us confused. We did look around a little longer because we didn't believe her and found it!!! Now I feel like I can never trust to ask anyone for their help because she made the experience of searching for an item completely uninviting. Please train your employees to have some compassion for other people obviously on a mission for an item! read more

This is the worst PetSmart I've ever known, and I've lived in several different cities in the past 20 years. It appears they don't hire much help, as help is quite scarce in the store. Not sure if this is now a national thing but they don't offer parrot adoption as other stores I've been to have had. The small animal choices in this store are pathetic. A few gerbils and hamsters, maybe one guinea pig now and then, and a few small birds in crowded cages. On our visit there I didn't see any lizards or frogs. While PetSmart's main website advertises pet rats the TC store doesn't have any and from what I understand refuses to carry them. Another pet store told me that PetSmart has been cutting back on selling small animals, especially pet rats, for a while because they have caved to pressure from animal rights extremists. It's pathetic if PetSmart has caved to these people. Ironic how many animal rights people who are against others being able to purchase a rat for a pet (our family loves pet rats and gives them a great home) often own a dog or a cat, not realizing that their home acts as a "cage" for their animal, the thing they claim to be against when it comes to small animals as pets. Also, the turnover rate of employees seems to be high here, as we see different faces every time we visit, and some of the staff is not the most friendly or knowledgable. The main problem is they are corporate and hold the market, and they know it and don't care. read more

They called our local Petsmart, where we've had them done many times, and claimed "you're not there." Well, duh, that's because we're here! I will never take my animals back! The cut wasn't great but the real issue is my dog got kennel cough from the Traverse City grooming facility. The cough started just a few days after being groomed in this facility. Thus costing me another $80+ to have him treated by my vet. Google it! That was the response I received when I called and asked how to resolve a matter with a Top Fin heater. Note, the Top Fin brand is a Petsmart only brand. I had to contact the HQ to get a resolve. I was told I should have been offered a store credit or exchange. That's all I wanted in the first place. Customer service stinks here. Mindy in the grooming department at Pet Smart is the BEST. She can groom my difficult rescues that no one else can handle and they come out happy and beautiful. I haven't used their other groomers, but some have assisted Mindy and I could watch through the window. Pets are groomed openly so others can see how well dogs are treated. Service is good and each dog comes with a progress report and a packet of coupons. I would recommend service through Pet Smart Grooming and especially with Mindy. read more

This is for banfield. Don't get the wellness plan! It's a big rip off. They charge you for unused services if you try to cancel early. If you don't have a pet that's sick everyday of the week these plans are just a plane old rip off!!! Disaster! The staff is rude and zero customer service skills. I buy food there and while checking out, you can see the employees be rough with the dogs. I saw a woman smack a dog into sitting still the last time I was in the store. NO NO NO NO NO! They are also expensive and wouldn't take an appointment unless I had my vet records. I was using Banfield - located in the store. I was told I would have to walk over to the counter for a print out. Terrible experience. read more

Be careful what you buy from these guys, they do not stand behind their products. If you have any problems at all with product they will leave you high and dry with no help. On top of that they put returned merchandise back on the shelf without ever checking it to see if there is a problem with, which results in bad product going out the door. I just used petsmart grooming services for the first time ever and I am an immediate fan. My dog had quite a bit of hair and needed the works. I took him in and Heather had him done in 3 hours and looking like a completely new dog. The expense was minimal considering the work that was done and I couldn't be more pleased and my dog is much happier as well. I will definitely be returning in the future. read more

Worst experience EVER please don't take your pet here. About 2 years ago we took our dog in for a grooming, which we'd been doing since she was a puppy. The staff seemed to be new, which was strange, and when we picked her up she had a huge gash on her chest. She was bleeding pretty heavily and with her white coat it was very noticeable. The groomer said that she came in with the cut. This was completely untrue because I would have noticed that she had cut herself and not taken her to get groomed but to the hospital instead! We asked to speak to a manager. The manager came from the sales floor and backed the groomer. We left immediately and took our dog over to Banfield hospital. They said this wasn't the first time they'd seen this happen and took her in immediately and stitched her up. I was very upset that the groomer couldn't admit she made a mistake, everyone makes mistakes, so we have never returned. I've verbally told friends and family NOT to take their pets there but today, when I was in the store buying treats for my dog, I watched through the window of the grooming salon to see the groomers being extremely rough with the dogs. I even heard one cry out before I left the store. This is what made me decide to post a comment. I really hope you read this before taking your dog to Petsmart grooming...it's a horrible place and experience for your pet! read more
