It's been a hot minute since I left a fresh review. 2020 was a real doozy! Since we haven't been to any restaurants, I'll give a big shout out to one of the few places we have been, Pewaukee Veterinary Service! That's right, homeschooling 2 kids and keeping a toddler alive didn't feel like quite enough, so we decided to throw a puppy into this s***t storm. We needed an animal doc for our not-so-golden Golden Doodle, Arlo, and PVS came highly recommended by several neighbors. It is really a great option for busy families with odd schedules. They keep weekend hours, offer late evening appointments, and have an ER option if your furry friend need immediate attention. They are also adhering to the Covid19 guidelines and offering curbside pick up to keep staff and pet-parents alike safe. Even after this time passes, I feel like I'll be thinking back to which businesses chose to put the health and safety of employees and guests above all else and feel even better about patronizing them. Our pupper sees Doctor Hillary, who is as knowledgeable and reassuring as she is sweet. The entire staff helpfully informed our decisions on training methods, food, and vaccinations. As a person new to raising a puppy, this was everything I needed and more! They have a great texting feature that sent Arlo's test results right to my phone and they have a drive thru pharmacy if we ever need to pick up meds for our precious pooch. We scoped out a lot of local vets before choosing PVS and now I can't imagine choosing any place else. It is truly a one stop shop for all pet health needs. read more

In short, saved my dogs life. After another clinic took far to long to catch a diabetes diagnosis Pewaukee Vet was recommended by a friend. Within minutes I was impressed with the facilities, it is like a People Clinic, not at all what I was used to. Dr Randy did a thorough review of the chart, and said it was unfortunate, but it is all in the past, and said lets see what we can do. The eye infection we had been treating was actually discharge from the drops and creams the other place we had been going to. Meds were changed, a plan was created to treat. With in 6 months, Diabetes was under control. I had tried to get into a neighboring eye care clinic and told it was going to be at least a month. Dr. Randy had an appointment the NEXT DAY. The folks at Eye Care for Animals worked with him for a treatment plan. With in a year, we actually reversed a cataracts growth allowing him to see out of one eye again. I had a trip, it is hard to find a place to take a dog that needs 2 pills twice a day, Insulin, multiple eye drops three times a day and a special diet. The boarding on site was wonderful. They checked in when I was 1/2 a world away to let me know all was well. In two words, this clinic has been "Life Changing" for both my dog and me. Doctor Randy once said it is important to make sure that MY Life is as important and my pets. He wants to find a balance for both of us. read more

Friendly, efficient and competent team. Techs and Vets gladly spent time answering questions and providing explanations. But I dropped my rating to a 3-star because we did not see a single mask worn by any staff member. Standing in a small exam room during the peak of the omicron variant with 2 unmasked individuals (who had had plenty of exposure to other clients throughout the day) seemed out of character for a veterinary or medical clinic. read more

The staff are knowledgeable and caring. I highly recommend Pewaukee Veterinary Services to anyone in the area. They are professional and quickly respond to questions. Our dog has had quite a few medical challenges in the last year or so. Dr. Baker and his team have been responsive, understand and truly care about our dog's wellbeing. read more

Whatever you do, DO NOT EVER Bring your animal here to be euthanized! Unfortunately it is the second time for me and it has been GOD AWFUL, can I stress AWFUL enough, both times!!!! NO compassion, dignity, or tact! I will update my review when my emotions are not so raw. This place deserves -10*!!!? HORRIBLE and keep in mind I have HAD to go here twice! STAY AWAY!!!! It is now 2 weeks later and I am still having nightmares from that awful experience and probably will for quite sometime. I have had to put other pets to sleep before and it has always been a peaceful and calm procedure. This situation was anything but seeing as the vet did not administer proper dosage and my husband's and my last moments with our dog were agonizing having to watch her convulsing and suffering in sheer terror and agony. NO ONE should have to experience that ever. My heart is literally broken and shell shocked! Absolute HORRIBLE business to deal with! As I said, 2 weeks later I have received NO calls from anyone to try and explain what happened let alone an apology. I beg you please to go elsewhere!! The graphic detail of everything is BEYOND belief!! Our b aby bit her last victim and both I and my husband have been traumatized to death!!! In both situations, non compassionate clinical drones. I know that this facility is affiliated with the UVWMV association, WILL be contacting seeing as MANY licenses NEED to be revoked! 6 hours after edit revise- "your dog's remains are ready for pickup". We have always had a great experience with PVS. We had to have our last standard poodle put to sleep we suspected cancer and her quality of life was not good. They came out to our car and took her out of the back for us and put her on a table to take her in. But we were treated with care and compassion. Our current baby Ebony loves going to see Kelly Flowers her vet. She is kind and compassionate. I will not take my dogs anywhere else. read more

I've had three dogs get all of their Healthcare here. Never a bad experience. Had to have my last good boy put down. Very emotional but everyone involved was kind and sympathetic. Only disappointment is that urgent care is advertised but not available. Had to then go to WVRC, I think it is. Which is near by. We've been there three times and they are 5 Star. read more

I cant say enough about Dr Nick. Took my furbaby in for a pulled groan muscle.Dr Nick is always friendly, professional and caring. Initially, I was apprehensive to bring my puppy to a vet that I had never gone to before but, after raving reviews from two others in my office and my mom, I had to check Dr. Nick Schuett's care out for myself. I am UNBELIEVABLY GLAD that I did. Not only was he kind to my puppy who had a broken femur on her hind leg but, he was reasonable with me and took into consideration all of my concerns. We had gone to another vet who said that we should amputate her leg and he assured me that with surgery and a tiny little baby plate in place, she would have full function of her leg. When I thought we were going to be forced to limit her abilities with 3 legs, he helped us see the light and make her future as bright as possible. He is the reason Skye will be able to run on all 4 legs and chase bunnies and squirrels without hesitations. He offered to care for her for the next two weeks so that she would have the best rehab, meds, and love while on "crate rest" to keep off of her newly repaired leg. The girls in the office, techs/care coordinators in back are so compassionate and sweet. They make you feel better, even when you're a crying mess on the phone. I truly appreciate the car they've provided and the continued supportive care they will be providing. Thy have a customer for life and I plan to bring my other 4 dogs to them in the future. read more

Very disappointed with Pewaukee Vet. I have been a loyal customer for many years, and things have changed tremendously as of late. The business manager, Aaron, is not polite and has no compassion. He was very condescending and rude to me, as have other support staff at PVS. Unfortunate because the vets are great. I trust my pets' care with the veterinarians but will not go back to them because of the other clinic staff. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone because of how this business is now being run. The service was much better before Aaron was hired. Poor choice of business manager even if he is part of the family who owns the business. read more

I posted in August, about the mistreatment of our dog Angel. Two weeks ago, my husband tried to get a call back from one of the owners of Pewaukee Veterinary Services, to discuss possible care for our dog, as one of their Techs. was the cause of her injuries. He did Not receive a call back. Although we tried everything from medication changes, to acupuncture, with Angel's regular Vet, a Neuro Vet, and a Homeopathic Vet, from other clinics, (who were ALL, Amazing & Caring!), we lost the fight this past Monday 10/19/15. We couldn't watch Angel falter, or suffer any longer, We unfortunately couldn't afford to keep trying things, that just couldn't help Her. We had to euthanize Our Beautiful, Sweet, Loving, Angel, due to the mistreatment, & negligence of Pewaukee Veterinary Services, their Staff, and Management. read more

I have been taking my cat to this vet since I found her at 4 weeks old. For the most part my experiences have been very positive, but the prices have always had me saying WTF. I just had my cat spayed and microchipped, no declaw. It was $720.00.... other places charge 200-500.00 In short, the vets are good, but they are over priced. Pewaukee Veterinary Service saved my Golden Retriever's life. Penny was diagnosed with a splenic mass and the University of Madison Veterinary School wanted to postpone the removal since their surgical team was booked for appointments through the following week. At the recommendation of a friend, I reached out to Pewaukee Veterinary Service and they immediately offered to take my dog into surgery. We scheduled the surgery for the next day and Penny had a mass removed that was about the size of a mini basketball. Dr. Karen was truly caring and compassionate during this time and provided me with a glimmer of hope when UW Madison's Vet School wrote my dog's mass off as cancer. The mass came back as benign and Penny is still with us three years later. If I had waited an additional week to go back to UW Madison for surgery, there was a very high chance Penny's spleen would have ruptured. She would have bled out and the likelihood of her making a full recovery would have been low. After receiving great care from Dr. Karen, Dr. Nick, and the rest of the staff, we made the decision to change vets. Pewaukee Veterinary Service provides us with all of our veterinary services and we see Dr. Kelly as our primary care veterinarian. She has helped us with Penny's allergies and continuously goes above and beyond to make sure Penny's needs are met. We occasionally have to wait for our appointment and we do incur some higher expenses for veterinary care at Pewaukee Veterinary Services. With that being said, I feel like we receive the best care possible for our two dogs. There is the saying, you get what you pay for and I truly believe that with discounted services, comes discounted care. I could not be more pleased with the service we have received from Dr. Tom and the staff. Having a rescue dog who has experienced trauma comes with some special needs and health concerns, I never feel as though it's nothing we can't handle though with PVS guidance. In addition to the vet services the day care and boarding services have been amazing as well and I love that they have an app, late drive thru pharmacy hours and that they are quick to return calls. They do a great job remembering my dog every time we come in and never make me feel rushed. read more

All Pets Inn is the boarding and day care facility next door to Pewaukee Veterinary Service. The Yelp review site says the facility is CLOSED. IT IS NOT CLOSED! I have used this facility a few times and I have been very pleased with the care and concern for my pet each time I have dropped her off and picked her up. read more

My wife waited over two hours with our three young children. Instead of offering her a discount for the extended wait we received a bill for over $400 to treat an ear infection and a minor skin infection. They promised a discount on a future office visit since our dog could not receive her vaccines. I returned and they would not honor this discount. They presented me with another treatment plan for over four hundred dollars. I walked out and will be contacting the Better Business Bureau as well as the owners. Stay away unless you like getting price gouged. read more

Had an actual emergency for my cat and they would not take him in for urgent care even though it matched all of the guidelines they explain on their website for what would make them accept an urgent visit. I did my research so that I could be a polite customer as one does. I provided as much data on the situation that I could, even pointing to their website guidelines, but they still turned him away. I have no idea what actual vet would turn away an urgent request for an animal in true need (not eating, drinking, or using his litter box for 48 hrs, and vomiting). I was straight forward, logical, and professional, but it fell on deaf (and insensitive) ears. I left quietly absolutely dejected. Horrible impression; just felt like they did not care at all and they were just lazy and condescending about this. So unprofessional. I switched vets the day this happened and will not be looking back. The new vet took him in immediately realizing the nature of the situation. read more

Great clinic - every vet I have been to with my own dog or my parents' two dogs have been great. Each veterinarian is very knowledgeable and beyond helpful with any health problem our dogs have had. You can tell the staff really care about the well being of the dogs as well. I recently moved internationally and the veterinarian and staff were beyond helpful in assisting me with the paper work that needed to be completed for the international regulations so my dog didn't get stuck in a quarantine. I would definitely recommend Pewaukee Veterinary Service to anyone in the area! (they also have a doggie daycare "All Pets Inn" which I couldn't recommend enough - my dog LOVED going there). read more

NOOOOOOO Please do NOT take your pet to Pewaukee Veterinary Services!! I dread the idea of writing this because it means I have to re-reminisce an already agonizing memory, but if it means that you and your pet won't have to go through the same, it will not be in vain. Off all my pets, little "Handsome Boy" was with me for the least amount of time, yet losing him broke my heart much more profoundly than all the others. I don't know why, but I just can't seem to get past the anguish this time... Two years ago I discovered a little orange tabby toughing out a brutal winter in the woods behind my house. No matter how I tried to lure him out of the cold, this very feral little guy wouldn't get within ten feet of me. All winter long I supplied him with fresh food and water, I built shelters for him and on the worst nights I'd put 12 hour hand warmers under the blankets to help keep him warm. When spring finally came, he would trot over to eat his fresh food, but touching wasn't allowed...yet. By then all I had to do was say "who is such a Handsome Boy" and he would immediately flop to the ground, roll back and forth belly up and show me exactly what he thought of his handsome self! He also spent this time one-by-one winning over the other cats and dogs we had and each week he'd venture a little bit closer to me. By summer he would finally let me do a quick "drive-by pet" but when Fall rolled around, he decided it was time to become one of the pack. One night he lined up behind the dogs and followed them right up the stairs and into the house. He never left my side after that and spent the winter months head butting me so hard he'd knock my glasses off my face! Five months later, March (2014) I took him to Pewaukee Veterinary Services for what I thought was constipation. Turns out he was diagnosed with Struvite crystals in his bladder; the most common and treatable kind. His blood work revealed other than that he was a strong and healthy, young cat. He could and should have survived the acute condition with the proper vet care and medication. This is what I recall...it's reasonably accurate I believe. The first visit was on Monday. Dr. Karen Selbert suggested surgery, but with a $2300.00 + fee, I asked for a lesser priced effective option. She drained his bladder with a catheter and sent home meds but warned it probably wouldn't work. Handsome Boy remained blocked so I took him back on Wednesday and agreed to the surgery which another doctor there performed. He also offered to neuter him at no extra charge. Seems to me, he fully expected the cat to recover? A catheter was re-inserted to allow drainage. When I saw her I had a funny feeling Dr. Selbert was angry with me for some reason...I tried to convince myself I was imagining it. I took him home the next morning, but by Friday he still wasn't able to pass urine (urethra swelling) so they offered to keep him in observation for the weekend at "no charge." When I learned that Dr. Selbert was on-call that weekend, I instantly became overwhelmed with a very ominous feeling in my gut; what was I supposed to do? Again I tried to convince myself I was imagining that. I dropped him off and expressed concerns if he were to get cath'd again over the weekend. After all, the swelling of his urethra was the only reason he still couldn't pee. I was relieved when told that rather than irritate his urethra even more Dr. Selbert could extract the urine from his bladder with a syringe, thus allowing the needed time for the swelling to go down. What a relief! But when I called to check on him Saturday...did she? NOPE! NO! She put a third catheter in him AGAIN and I KNOW she KNEW what was likely to happen. OMG! The THIRD TIME in less than a week. I was sick with worry, but calmly asked why she didn't choose that alternate procedure, her aloof response was; "'cause I've always done it this way, ever since I was a vet in Indiana." I knew right then I was NOT imagining that funny feeling. Something then told me he would never be coming home again either. Though terrified, I called on Monday morning praying for the best. Sure enough, he wasn't able to pass urine on his own due to inflammation of the urethra. I was left with three choices; let him slowly die in pain from the toxic overload, spend an additional $3000.00 on a different surgery to essentially give him a urethra more like a female cat and less likely to block or put him to sleep. I was way too out of my mind with grief. I had to ask my boyfriend to go over there and have him put to sleep. Apparently something so horrific happened while he was there, he left very distraught. When he tried to merely mention it, I told him to NEVER, ever tell me what that was. I am haunted just knowing whatever it was, it was bad. I'm so sorry Handsome Boy...I know you didn't want to die. You shouldn't have. Had I picked a different clinic, I honestly don't think you would have. I still miss you more than I can stand! read more

I have been a client of Pewaukee Vet for 9 years. Dr. Tom Hirth has provided the utmost care for our felines. I'm posting this review to make people aware of the lack of experience affiliated with the grooming offered at Pewaukee Vet. My feline was being groomed and an inexperienced assistant was allegedly bit by my cat. During the grooming, dogs are in and out and barking. Two employees indicated that my cat was startled and they were embarrassed by what had happened. In any event, my feline was reported to the Waukesha Humane Welfare Society and now I face home visits to observe my feline and a final approval visit by a veterinarian. Hence to say, I have sought the services of an alternative veterinary clinic. So beware of paying the consequences for inexperience. read more

Pewaukee Veterinary Service Manager Aaron Schuett, son of Randy Schuett owner, treated us in an arrogant and condescending manner, showing lack of kindness, compassion, dignity and respect for our pet's pain and our grief over his loss. The terrible experience of losing our loving cat was made even worse by Pewaukee Vet Service, they failed to meet any acceptable standard of care, they should not have a license to deal with pets. In our experience, they are nice until there's a problem, they don't care about your pet's pain only your money! I took my cat in because he vomited blood. Dr. Ann-Margaret took x-rays and said it was acid in his stomach over constipation. She sold us new food and constipation med. Our cat seemed OK, until 2 days later we had to take him in with Dr. Flowers, he was in serious pain, disoriented and could barely stand up. She ran tests, an hour and a half passed and she said she needed new xrays. He was in pain I had to ask her to please give him a pain med as he was suffering. The xrays showed blood and a mass in the stomach. He was dying and had to be put to sleep. The whole procedure of putting him to sleep was done on the cold, hard floor of the exam room. We got on the floor, it was very difficult for my parents, they are 70yrs old. They wanted to be as close to him as possible so he knew we were there with him. No body showed any concern for this. Days later we called and spoke with Aaron Schuett as we could not understand how this had happened, we had been told it was constipation and 2 days later he's dying. Why was nothing abnormal seen on the x-rays by Dr. Ann-Margaret and then suddenly there is a mass in his stomach? Our cat was eating, drinking fine, using the litterbox daily, didn't seem in pain, had complete blood work done by Pewaukee Vet one month prior and was normal. Could his death have been prevented? Did constipation cause this or what? I was crying as I asked some of these questions...His attitude was cold, uncaring showing lack of compassion. He didn't explain anything, but said everything they did was correct! I said that to euthanize our cat on the floor lacked dignity for him and it was difficult for my parents to get on the floor. He interrupted to say "you were all fine and comfortable on the floor" and that if we didn't "like" the floor, we should've moved him ourselves. I said we didn't because we were in shock and afraid to cause him more pain. The vet was in charge and should have been more competent. The vet knew he was in a lot of pain, why didn't she offer a pain med? I had to ask 1.5 hours of seeing him in agonizing pain? The responsibility to not allow unnecessary suffering was for the vet's as they have experience on this and we rely on them for that. I told him I now know there is a grieving room for this and he said that it's by appointment only. He said we should be thankful that they "graciously allowed" us to take up an exam room for hours while tests and the euthanasia procedure was done!...That exam rooms are made for only 2 people, NOT a "whole family" That is ridiculous, we are only 3 people including my mother who arrived only at the end when we informed her, as it was clear he had to be put to sleep. We paid $250 for the first visit and didn't even get a hint of how grave our cat was, then $900 two days later to euthanize our cat on the cold floor and we're told we're taking up their exam room? Aaron should be ashamed of himself for saying that. We said we wanted to speak with the owner instead of him and he said NO. Aaron said we had wasted his time on the phone for 20 min. We needed at least an apology for the lack of dignity shown for our cat in his last moments. He said they did nothing that he had to apologize for so we didn't deserve one! read more

We have been taking our dog, Rudi, for 10 years to Pewaukee Veterinary Service and Dr. Randy. Everyone at PVS treats us and Rudi extremely well. Their preventative care has been exceptional. We highly recommend PVS to anyone looking for a veterinary clinic that truly becomes a part of your life. read more

I think Pewaukee Vet has turned into a money making machine and have lost sight of truly caring about the animals and owners. A recent visit clarified this in my mind. I went looking for help and guidance with a very sick animal and I received a list of "could be's". No plan, no guidance. Cold, detached. A horrible experience. read more

My boyfriend and I brought our cat into this clinic for the first time tonight. The staff was very welcoming and kind. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the veterinarian, Karen Selbert. Ms. Selbert was extremely abrasive and cold. She barely let us explain the situation with our cat before continuously cutting us off. We would try to interject with a question, and Ms. Selbert would completely ignore us. It was frustrating that she clearly didn't care about our cat's issue and would rather try to convince us that we needed $800 worth of tests. It seemed as if she cared more about leaving work than the wellbeing of our cat. When we would try to explain what was going on, she implied numerous times that we did not know what we were talking about, like she knows the daily routine of our cat better than we do. She was very insulting and it was clear that all she wanted was to run up a lengthy bill, even after we made it clear that we are students who are concerned about how much the visit would cost. Ultimately we ended up paying over $150 for her to feel our cats stomach and give us advice we already knew and have tried. I think the clinic overall was great, however this particular veterinarian was awful. read more

Had a horrible experience euthanizing my cats last fall. (2015) They took them away from me to "prep them" and kept them away for 30 minutes. I could hear them screaming the entire time, and could do nothing about it. By the time they brought them back, they were catatonic. It was so traumatic for me, I still have nightmares of their screams. I never truly got to say goodbye. It was tragic. When I spoke with Cheryl, she assured me she would discuss my situation with the staff and follow up with me. She left me one message and I have called several times since. I'm still waiting for a returned call. :( I have yet to pay the bill, because I wanted to discuss it with them. I feel I should have been at least offered a discount after what they put my poor cats and me through. Funny how they can send a bill, threaten with lawyers, but cannot return a client's call after such mistreatment. We will never be going back. read more
