A good park for a lil' family reunion. Which is precisely…read morewhat I was there for! We reserved a large pavilion with grills, tables, and facilities (flushing toilets, you heathens). By the time I got there, my family had mostly set up the area, but there were several picnic tables and lots of space for our own lawn chairs as well as setting up some lawn games to play. The park is generously sized and has several large parking lots. There are playgrounds and, the main draw for many, is the beach area. Swimming was free and the sandy area was kept fairly tidy. There were lifeguards on duty, both on shore and at the raft with the slide and diving boards. You must be able to swim out there on your own and demonstrate a basic ability to stay afloat, in order to dive and whatnot. The water is a Wisconsin lake, so expect some algae and seaweed and even some fish. It is nature. Don't expect pristine-ness. I don't know when or if I will ever be back, but this is a nice park with a lot to offer .

It felt secluded with enough trees and undergrowth that we couldn't see our neighbors. There are pit toilets located throughout the park as well as plumbed toilets and showers in a central location. I exclusively used the plumbed toilets and found I never had to wait for one, which was nice. There is a camp store where we were able to pick up some memorabilia and they have a self-serve wood shed where you can purchase bundles of wood and bags of ice. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire ring, both of which we made use of during our stay. The park itself has lakes, creeks, and over 10 miles of trails. We stuck to campground walks on our most recent trip but have been there previously for day trips where we enjoyed a lovely walks. The campground is beautifully wooded (both deciduous and tamaracks) which is our favorite sort of camping atmosphere. The campground hosts were welcoming and spot on to ensure that all sites are clean and ready for their next guests. Everyone who worked there ensured our stay was as lovely as possible. Get to it!

How about crowds? Does the thought of trying to get away and having to deal with big crowds frustrating to you? Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls alike, I have the answer for you. Tons and tons of outdoor fun can be found right here at Hartman Creek State Park and the surrounding areas. It is not that far of a drive from the Chicago Area (about a 4.5 hour drive). If you go up here in the middle of the summer of course there are going to be a good number of people here. Fortunately it is not going to be as crowded as a Devil's Lake or Starved Rock, which automatically give it an A plus rating in my grade book!

Many people talk of how clear the water is (a lot of water by beaches in Wisconsin is muddy). Old pines provide shade on a small section of the beach and up on the grass too. A lot of tables and charcoal barbecues scattered about. Cell phones don't work here...bonus right! I've been to beaches in the Caribbean, Thailand and South America but this is my favorate North Woods syle beach. Sunset lake truly looks like something out of a movie or better!

I really love taking my boys to Badger Sports Park. The only…read moreproblem is we cant go very often because you need a small loan to spend any length of time there. Today with the help of a Groupon, the kids were able to do more than they are normally allowed to do. They bowled, had a few turns on the laser maze and jumped in the inflatables. The laser maze and bowling get zero complaints from me. However, The inflatables gets 1 star- the inflatables themselves are great, but... The absolutely ridiculous turf, they stupidly put down in a children's play area.... I cant even! There are these black pellets all over the place "for your comfort and safety" Let me tell you my child's bloody murder screams from the pellet in his eye, that refused to come out, and the over 15 minutes he spent crying in pain on the bathroom floor, to his now probably scratched cornea... safety and comfort are not exactly the words that crossed my mind. There were a lot of swear words that did, however. This definitely ruined my son's fun. I really do not understand the point of this material being added. It is definitely not safe. I will not be back (for the inflatables) for this reason specifically. I would also recommend parents go to other inflatable entertainment facilities we have in the area. Everything here is pretty costly. As a parent I cant afford to bring my kids here often. But they do have fun when they go. I also feel like I just gave them a gambling addiction from the crane games. That's where is starts, folks.... JUST ONE MORE TIME...I ALMOST HAD IT.....

Grand Slam Mini Golf has mini golf and batting cages. We were there on their first day open of the…read moreseason for some mini golf and they were still working through getting the course decor all spruced up for the season but the 18 holes were in good shape. I was just glad they were open because it was national miniature golf day! $8.25 per person was a good deal for some fun. As with many places now there is an upcharge for paying with a credit card so bring cash if you want to avoid that. Both of the people working there that we interacted with were friendly.
