As a family, I would not recommend this campground. This was our worst camping experience ever. Granted it was Labor Day weekend but we felt like we were in Florida on spring break. There were drunks EVERYWHERE. Language was atrocious and you are packed in so tight (fire pits are maybe 20 feet apart), you can't avoid hearing everything your neighbors say. We booked a 3 night stay but left after one. The website states no drunkenness or profanity will be tolerated; That quiet times are from 12am-8am and will be enforced. Our neighbors showed up at 11:20 pm to sent up tents with flashlights. Then proceeded to fill over 4 air mattresses with a motorized air pump, then stayed up talking and drinking until 4am. They had 2 dogs that started barking at 5am. The next day neighbors on the other side showed up, already drunk and not able to put 3 words together that didn't have profanity. The showers were private and nice, the playground is small but the equipment was fun. As a day trip, this would be a lot of fun and we will be back for that reason, we'll just stay somewhere else.

Went tubing there today... it was awesome!!! A fun "socially distant" day trip! We went on the long trip, the bus ride there was quick, and off we went. Took about 4 hours, and it went by in the blink of an eye! I recommend renting the cooler tube and bringing snacks and drinks along. We took our two 14yr olds and they had a blast too. Clean family fun

If you're looking for a daytime adventure in this area, tubing can be a fun way to pass a summer afternoon. (Warning, if you're trying to get away from it all and be secluded this is NOT the adventure for you as hundreds upon hundreds of people descend on this river and enjoy a lazy afternoon tubing down it). Where to begin? Well, you can rent a tube at the main campground ($11 weekday, $15 weekends) and get in line for a school bus to take you up the river. You can also rent a cooler tube if you want it (same price). Note - you can NOT bring your own tube. Unlimited bus service is included in the tube rental. They usually offer long trips or short trips, although if the river is low it will only be the short trips offered. If you float the whole way the short trip is pretty quick, 1 - 1.5hrs. You have two options - either try to get yourself stuck on rocks along the way (snagged up in the river to slow you down) or get in line for another bus ride and do it all over again. Canoes and kayaks are also available for rent. They will ask for id and give you different wrist bands if you are under/over 21. Also, NO GLASS allowed on the river -- and yes, they do check all coolers as you're getting on the bus. There is quite a bit of drunken debauchery on this river but people are usually friendly and fun. If you're going on a summer weekend, I'd recommend getting there on the earlier side (10am-ish) as there's barely a line and parking is easy then. By early afternoon the lines will be long and you'll have to park in an overflow lot and have a bit of a walk. There is also a campground here but I've never stayed at it - but given the river crowd, my hunch is that it's quite the party zone.

My friends and I have been tubing with Sandy Shores for three years in a row on our annual vacation…read moreand we've always had a great time. Each year, we choose a different lake to stay on in central WI and we've all agreed that we need to make sure we stay close enough so we can schedule a float with Sandy Shores! This year, Mallory was the superstar who made sure we all had what we needed, including upgrading to a tube with back support (yes, please!), as well as our cooler float. She got us all loaded into the van and unloaded at the river, making sure we understood exactly where to find her for the pickup! Getting out was a breeze as well - just look for the orange markers, walk to the shore, pick up your tube and walk up to the van, where they'll take your tube from you, pack it up and load you into the van to return to your car. And a bonus - you leave your keys and ID with them when you float, so there's zero chance of losing your keys in the river! Sandy Shores is organized and streamlined to make the whole process very enjoyable - just log on to their site & reserve your time (highly recommend) and bring cash (for the float and to tip!!). The float itself takes about 2 hours, but there are a couple of sand bars that you can stop at to take a time out and chill, if you'd like. Thanks Sandy Shores for always giving us a great experience!

When we arrived to Sandy Shores we were quickly and rudely turned away by the cashier because we didn't have a reservation?? If this was a requirement then it needs to be said on the website that it is. Not that it's an option. We quickly found a different company to tube through down the road and had a much better experience right off the bat.

I came here for the first time with my extended family last weekend and have really mixed feelings…read moreabout our stay. The good: staff was friendly and helpful. Prices are competitive. Our campsite was nice and we had a nice view of Bear Lake. The main restrooms were cleaned constantly throughout the day and were well stocked. There's a nice big playground in the middle of the campground that my niece just loved. There were a lot of families there and I get the sense that this could be a place where people just love to come; it certainly seemed that way based off how many people had seasonal sites super decked out. The cons: The sites are all identified with their numbers, but I think they could be a little more clear. Both myself and my in-laws accidently set up in the wrong sites because of the way that we were instructed to drive in; the identification markers were after where our site was. So we had to be one spot over from where we were, but we actually both accidently set up in the sites just after where we should have been. It really wasn't a big deal and clearly it was our own fault, but it could have been more clear. We were excited to maybe play on the mini-golf course, but there was a lot of debris on the greens and the grass all around it really needed to be cut. The decorations around the grounds too look like they could use some TLC. We checked out the (tiny, super tiny) sandy beach area and thought it could have been cleaned up a bit. We went down right away one morning and found garbage on the ground & random dirty beach towels where towels don't belong. Later in the afternoon when we went back down there to see what was going on we saw the same pieces of garbage and towels in the same spots. We thought surely by then someone from the staff would have come cleaned it up. We were looking forward to getting in the water and possibly renting some of the water equipment they had at the campground (which would have been so nice), but we heard from several people there was swimmers itch in the water. What a letdown! Not the campgrounds fault at all, but our experience was less than what it could have been. I think this place has potential to be really fantastic, just needs a little more TLC.

The new owners have pushed customers out due to no longer allowing ANY carry ins basically forcing you to buy from their bar. Not even water bottles! There was nobody out watching for the new $10 per person wristbands so we basically paid for nothing (aside from Mondays apparently) Aside from hearing about my diabetic issues, they did not allow me to bring any small snacks EVEN THOUGH they allowed me to bring in a backpack that they said we couldn't even have? It was nice to relax in and they have improved on adding a better playground for older kids, but I am not impressed with the raise in prices for everything. If you want a seasonal pass for your family, get ready to pay $150 In the bathrooms, there's black mold, hair everywhere, and white stuff on the curtains. Yep! Full day fee no matter what. Whatever, fine we will pay the full day. We went from 11:30-5(losing the first three hours we still paid for). When we returned the boat I was told a white bumper is missing from the boat. It was in the front seat storage but I was still needing to pay an additional $40 to cover the "lost" bummer. So no I was charged not only for the three hours while it sat at the dock not using gas but now I have to pay for a lost bumper that's really there? What the unused hour fees couldn't have covered the bumper fee?? RIP OFF! And the gal who checked us out wouldn't even hear us out. NEVER would recommend this place for renting!! They just want your money vs even considering that maybe the customer is right?!? Don't worry Ding's dick will respond. I a well aware I paid for a full day when I didn't use a full day. That's not my complaint. Poor customer service!!! they had plenty of left over funds we didn't use to replace the bumper. We do have pics of the boat prior to us leaving the dock so the bumper was wasn't there so it wasn't lost in our time. The fact you're not even willing to work with a customer means it's all about how big your wallet can get anyway. We also had an injury in the water and if they truly are customer friendly where it the first aid kit on your boats? NONEXISTENT! Above all else, we look forward to coming there every year, and we are thankful for the employees/owners who help run and operate such a wonderful place. It's a place that's been around for many, many years, and the experiences you enjoy are proof as to why it's still here. Many reviews claim it's dangerous, that the employees don't give proper instruction, or that there is too much nature....in nature. To that, I would say this is not some lazy river in the dells. This is out in the wilderness, and you are warned of the dangers and sign a waiver before being allowed to raft. Do not come here expecting someone to hold your hand and guide you through every paddle you take. You are one your own after they drop you off ( you are, however, picked up at the end) . If you have cell service, they have an emergency number to contact them....but if you dont have cell service its not their fault, blame your phone company. Though you are given instructions on which sides of the river are better to take depending on the start and finish( and a map...which is prerty straigh forward...stay to the left/center until you past the first rapid to avoid the strong current of the streams on the right. After that, stick to the center until you come to the bridge at the end where you stay to the right before going over the last rapid.) You are also given a helmet and a life vest that they make sure fit you well before you are sent out. As well they tell you what to do and how to sit in the raft when going over rapids, or if by chance you fall out. Though advice does not prevent you from accidents or injury, you also can not blame the staff/owner on what mother nature herself has built and constructed and that you are fully willing to venture down. On that note, if you are camping there or just rafting, you are in the wilderness, not in some resort! There will be bugs, but this also means that there will be plenty of wildlife to be seen as well. If bugs are the worst of your worries, this place is not for you! We go there knowing there are risks involved, but then again, what good things in life don't have risks? Also, no one has ever forced us to go. We happily go each year and look forward to it. We aren't some super experienced white water rafting people, we only go once a year here. I will say if the water is low that you'll have to work a little harder to get past some rocks, and if it's high that going over the rapids may seem scarier, but you are provided a helmet and life jacket for a reason. We pay attention to the water and work together to navigate over the rapids as best we can (again just amateurs) , and we've never had anything more than a little bruise here or there. Everyone is different, though, and can do things differently from how we do. But you can not blame the business for your own actions on the river or any injuries when you are fully warned and again...sign a waiver knowing full well of the possible dangers on your trip. Too many people write reviews telling of bad experiences that sound more like someone who doesn't know what the true outdoors are like and wasn't prepared to rough it a little. Overall, this place is amazing, the campsite is well maintained and cozy, and the rafting brings adventure and many fun memories for those willing to take on the task. This place is one of a kind and will give you moments of a lifetime. But again, don't come if you're not willing to deal with the outdoors, paddling, or if you're looking for some wisconsin dells Waterpark resort. Come here if you're looking to get some thrills, have fun, and enjoy the beautiful wisconsin scenery. To all at Shotgun Eddys, Thank you for all your hard work! We'll see you next year.
