Since moving out to LA, I went to several casting director workshops. Some workshops were decent, others were not great at all. I hate paying for a class or workshop where the casting director barely gets to see your work and doesn't give any comments or suggestions for improvement. I started taking Casting Director Phaedra Harris's Audition Lab a few months ago and I can see a major improvement in my audition techniques (not that they were bad before!!) Phaedra is very hands on and takes her time with each person in class. Not to mention, everyone gets up several times during each class. I also love that she invites industry guests to the class. Phaedra is incredible! I moved to LA about 2 years ago, and began auditioning. After having trouble booking, I went to a workshop Phaedra offered. I started taking her class, and I've learned so much since then! There are plenty of acting classes out there, but no matter how good your acting is, it's pointless unless you make it through the audition! This review is a little over due because I wanted to remove any ounce of bias, in order for me to speak only on the bases of action not emotion... I hope this is helpful to future participants. Pros: Her honesty Willingness to teach Payment plans Heart and kindness Guest artist, agents and managers Her little heart approach and humor Her Faith Cons: She's pretty much always late She doesn't answer emails (or text), A little one sided/bias Much favoritism towards her aids/assistance who participate in the class Not organized and doesn't seem prepared for every class. Gives homework and never addresses it The class becomes more of a scene study than audition prep Very little communication Her Faith Just like the other yelp reviews, I too was having trouble with auditioning due to my background in Theatre and my plain ignorance on the art of auditioning for Television and Film. I went to a sneak-peek of Phaedra Harris's Audition Lab and appreciated her honesty and willingness to teach, so I paid and signed up to take her lab. My first experience with her was good. I was placed in the intermediate class and I learned several tips and tricks that still help me today. A few of her cons were noted then, but I was too passive and just happy to be in the class to draw attention to them. However when I was promoted to the advanced lab, her flaws made me question her and her integrity to the class, which in turn caused me to drop out- If I show up to class, do my homework, send my emails, establish and set fourth what I want out of the class, then why can't I get what I paid for? That was my biggest issue; I wasn't getting what I had paid for. I will admit, I'm not perfect, and my brazenness took part in why my relationship with the class went sour. But when you're being ignored, disrespected and insulted based off the fact that you're a "good actor" doesn't justify having emails being ignored, or being assigned things that don't fall under your type -or sitting in a 3 (sometimes 4) hour class watching Phaedra coddle ADAVANCED actors on basic character development and breakdown. I mean, Phaedra literally spent the whole class period explaining attributes of a character that was explained thoroughly in the first page of the script that we all had to read. I was the only one who read the screenplay in the two weeks that we had to complete the assignment. Her Lab aid didn't even do the assignment, and when it was her turn to perform, Phaedra not only took 20 minutes of OUR class time to helping her through the scene, she also complimented and encouraged her for another 5 minutes. Now everyone needs encouragement, I understand that, BUT encouragement without discipline is ammunition for ego and self-righteousness. Patting people on the back for doing less than the bare minimum while people that actually put in effort get pushed to the side is kick in the face to craft. I could go on, but I'll stop there. I believe the class/lab has potential to help and affect actors in the future but it needs a stronger foundation. *i dropped out after the 4th class and she gave me half of my money. I started taking Phaedra's class a four weeks ago. I came from a theater background so I found it difficult to grasp the sedulties needed for film. I can just say Phaedra is amazing! I find her classes to be very responsibly priced and she really wants you to succeed as an actor. She is not always easy and she doesn't always tell you what you want to hear but she is always on point. I had been auditioning like crazy and not landing anything. I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Within three weeks of taking Phaedra's class I landed a supporting role in a feature film. I would recommend anyone who is absolutely serious about taking their craft to the next level to see Phaedra. I will definitely be auditioning for her intermediate class. read more

I've been in LA for about 3 years now and I must say casting director Phaedra Harris is one of the nicest Casting directors I have yet to experience. During the audition she made me feel extra comfortable. After the audition she gave me adjustments and invited me to her acting lab workshops. I immediately started her workshops and I must say she changed my life for the better. Not only am I getting call backs, but I am also getting producer sessions as well. Phaedra Technique has helped me improve on so many levels. I am much more confident, well prepared and most importantly I BOOK ALOT NOW... I not only still continue to take Phaedra workshops but for major auditions like Tyler Perry sitcoms and more she coach me privately. Phaedra has been my coach for only 1 year and my acting career is moving faster than I ever expected.
