    Drunken noodles
    John B.

I have to say I expected less of this place than what I got, having frequently passed by and judged it a typical overpriced touristy type of restaurant. It has a very prominent Post Office Square location, and pertinently, it had the virtue of being open for dinner (unlike the area's many lunch places geared towards workers), and during the holidays. Their vegetarian section is decent, and the dishes we sampled were modest in portion size but full in flavor. The chillies and the burn accompanying them was significant in my drunken noodles, which also included a decent variety of vegetables and what I think were young peppercorns. The other noodle and tofu dishes were no slack, and the non-vegetarians in the party were happy as well. While there was one notable service error (a tofu dish that didn't have any actual tofu), they corrected it rather quickly and were good enough otherwise, notably keeping up with our demand for water on a hot day eating hot food. While the price to portion size ratio wasn't great, it also wasn't worse than many other local restaurants, many of which lack this one's location and ambiance. I certainly was satisfied to have landed here.

The best Thai food in Toombul. Duck red curry with coconut rice was awesome so was the mixed entree which was superb. The couple next to us recommended the beef massaman curry as a favourite.

Loved the location of this restaurant in Brisbane CBD! And the decor is great too, including their table settings. The service is always pleasant and welcoming. Slightly soft spoken but friendly and attentive. The food is very good. I've been here twice. The first time, I had duck red curry with pineapple and lychee. This is exactly the kind of curry I love. Flavoursome, savoury and sweet! The way it's served over a tea candle is pretty dramatic too :) The second time I came back, I had crispy pork and sweet basil. It was spicy, not too crispy but incredibly tasty. So so yum. It was a rice dish so it came with rice for about $15. My only issue was that because it's such a strong flavoured dish, I wanted way more rice than what was served. You could always order another bowl of steamed rice though! Overall, I really like this place and hope they'll be around a long time :)

    Awesome food and service.

Can't say enough good things about the restaurant! Service, atmosphere, and food were top notch. Shaved ice dessert was so so good!! Only had one day off in Brisbane or I would have gone back again.

The place is really nice, the ambience is really good perfect for birthday celebration, friends gathering and if you just want to have drinks with a friend. Food is good, my favourite is the Crispy Barramundi.

    Green curry chicken and rice.

Great Friday night venue. Had a work group there on Friday. Easy and good food, well priced, and a beer tower. What more do you need?

Food was average and customer service was poor. There was also a rule about only splitting bills with cash.

Jam-packed with people of all ages from all the countries the beautiful world has to offer. Only catch is, you can only get in if you're a traveller or student (ID/Passport required) and if you're a girl. Although we have snuck the odd guy in with a bunch of girls with much success. It helps if you know the bouncer. They play music with the likes of Love Shack, Horny, Addicted to Bass and a lot of songs popular all over the world with the kids in the 90s era. They do go back to Dancing Queen and Mr Wendal as well and boy can you boogy to the tunes of this place. Be prepared to have some form of alcohol spilt on your fancy clothes every time you go there. Be prepared for people dancing on tables (even though they've banned it). Be prepared to body squish your way from the dance floor to the toilets and then back to the dancefloor with very willing body squichers - usually from Braz-eeeel (Brazil) and write a note on the wall to your ex-lover in the toilets and pretty much throughout the whole bar, on the walls, on the furniture... everywhere. Leave your memory here for free. This place will always hold a special place in our hearts, yes it's not posh, it's rather backpackery... but that's how we would like it to stay. Join in the songs with your hearts and hands and sing and dance to the wee hours to an awesome DJ with various glow in the dark articles through his hair. People have fun here, and that's what being young and travelling the world is supposed to feel like. Footloose and fancy free.

But the layout of the place is even better! It is a basement bar, half of it outside and the other half kind-of-inside. Very spacious, clean and with good selection of beer (albeit mostly mainstream beers, but a lot of them). Very comfortable, with some big TVs and also music. Good people watching too. The food is good, not amazing, but you can't expect amazing in such a central, tourist-y area. I had the wings and they're a solid 8/10, at least. Service was great too. Shout out to Elise behind the bar.

However, like most of the pubs in the CBD, this one does close quite early (though late enough that I was able to slip in here for a drink one night). There is nothing fancy or flash about this pub - expect the standard beers on tap - no craft beers. It also has a pokies area and a bistro, though there is a pool table tucked away in one corner. The beer garden is pretty cool as well, but unfortunately for the smokers it is not the designated smoking area. During the day it does get fairly crowded (though I have never noticed anybody out in the beer garden, despite it being a pretty nice day), but it was fairly quiet when I was there.

But sometimes it's good to get reckless and a bit silly over some beers and some really, really terrible love music. Irish Murphy's doesn't necessarily have bad music (I'm also a sucker for an accent, especially Irish) but they certainly have the collective crowd keen on getting drunk and roaring along to an inaudible and stereotypically perfect karaoke song. Maybe it's the fact that Irish Murphy's adopts an appearance actually like an Irish pub, but I can't help but have a little fondness for it. I have to search for the fondness a little but believe me, it's there. It's just an ideal place to gather around a table and sling back a few casual (or not so casual) beers and get a little messy and fun. And when you've had a few, who can't join in with the crooning and tuning of the blokes on stage? The beer's fairly cheap, the company's not half bad, and the entertainment isn't sot stale either. I'm not trying to sound begrudging here, because like I said, I do have a soft spot for Irish Murphy's. I just like to be with a larger group of people and get a little silly in the name of fun. If you're after slurry banter and Irish accents, Irish Murphy's is the place to be.
