Somewhat unattentive service and average food. The coconut prawns starter was very bland. Based on the reviews I had the duck curry. The duck was cooked well. But the curry lacked flavor and had too much pineapple. We had questions about the menu, but our server seemed didn't seem to know the menu well and wasn't interested in explaining things. read more

Located in Post Office Square, The Phat Elephant is a modern Thai bistro serving classic Thai dishes (does that even make sense lol). The area has many restaurants and seems to be a popular spot for lunch for workers in the area. We ordered the lunch special with cashew chicken and rice. The star of the show was the whole fired barramundi with Thai seafood sauce. Simply amazing. The fish was crispy on the outside with just enough juiciness on the inside. It was covered in a Thai style herb and veg salad with a sweet, sour and spicy sauce. I definitely recommend. read more

I have to say I expected less of this place than what I got, having frequently passed by and judged it a typical overpriced touristy type of restaurant. It has a very prominent Post Office Square location, and pertinently, it had the virtue of being open for dinner (unlike the area's many lunch places geared towards workers), and during the holidays. Their vegetarian section is decent, and the dishes we sampled were modest in portion size but full in flavor. The chillies and the burn accompanying them was significant in my drunken noodles, which also included a decent variety of vegetables and what I think were young peppercorns. The other noodle and tofu dishes were no slack, and the non-vegetarians in the party were happy as well. While there was one notable service error (a tofu dish that didn't have any actual tofu), they corrected it rather quickly and were good enough otherwise, notably keeping up with our demand for water on a hot day eating hot food. While the price to portion size ratio wasn't great, it also wasn't worse than many other local restaurants, many of which lack this one's location and ambiance. I have been to the Phat Elephant a few times but this time I didn`t get very good service at all. I like the whole restaurant experience, but now you sit down , use a QR code to order and don`t get to ask the waiter anything. The food has also gone down in taste. A great shame as this used to be the best Thai restaurant in Australia in my view. Please, please pick it back up again. read more

The best Thai food in Toombul. Duck red curry with coconut rice was awesome so was the mixed entree which was superb. The couple next to us recommended the beef massaman curry as a favourite. read more

Phat Elephant was a truely incredible dining experience. Service was fairly quick, but the food was next level. The food was the best I've probably ever had anywhere, the presentation was wonderful, the food broke my initial expectations by a long shot. Everything tasted incredible, the perfect amount of spice, the perfect amount of dip, and the perfect temperature. The restaurant was well decorated with plants and Thai culture. Loved the location of this restaurant in Brisbane CBD! And the decor is great too, including their table settings. The service is always pleasant and welcoming. Slightly soft spoken but friendly and attentive. The food is very good. I've been here twice. The first time, I had duck red curry with pineapple and lychee. This is exactly the kind of curry I love. Flavoursome, savoury and sweet! The way it's served over a tea candle is pretty dramatic too :) The second time I came back, I had crispy pork and sweet basil. It was spicy, not too crispy but incredibly tasty. So so yum. It was a rice dish so it came with rice for about $15. My only issue was that because it's such a strong flavoured dish, I wanted way more rice than what was served. You could always order another bowl of steamed rice though! Overall, I really like this place and hope they'll be around a long time :) read more

Ordered Takeaway as my last meal in Australia. The portions were huge and delicious. I put four stars because it wasn't the best Thai I've ever had and wasn't memorable, but it was good nonetheless. This is the Thai spot I was trying to find the other night and tonight I found it and glad I did. It is a casual kind of place with great outdoor seating. Inside is modern open kitchen design and is comfortable/ relaxing. The staff was very friendly and was able to seat me right away. They use a call button to request service that is located at the table. I have seen this before and it works for me. The waitress gave me a great recommendation as I was going to order a main and she advised there was a smaller version available as well. Good call so I ordered a starter! I had the BBQ pork skewers for a starter and green curry chicken as my main. The skewer was very tender and the BBQ sauce on the side had a good flavor. I ordered the curry Thai spice level and it did not disappoint. Great service and definitely one I would visit again! read more

Delicious green papaya salad -- just the right balance of sweet, lime, papaya, dried shrimp and peanuts -- and crispy pork and basil rice along with cold and fresh Thai Singha beer. Good efficient service too. Will go again! read more

I've eaten in Thailand numerous times...as authentic as it gets. I had the garlic & peppered pork with jasmine rice and vegetables along with some crispy chicken. Sampled my friends Ladd chicken salad, not sure of spelling. The salad was Thai spicy hot. Everything tasted delicious. Service was friendly and prices seemed reasonable. If you enjoy great Asian food, then this is the place! Our dishes were so flavorful, delightful and just superb, with just the right amount of heat! They adjust the spice/heat to your liking. We had the chicken drunken noodles and the Thai green chicken curry--both spectacular, fresh and light! I wanted to sample everything on the menu, as it all looked and sounded so fantastic! The service is excellent too--all the waiters share the tables so you don't have just one waiter...You get a roving waitstaff and they are all so attentive and on top of the customers' needs. Extremely well run restaurant with fabulous, fun food!! I wish I could go back to sample more, but I live all the way in the U.S...so a little tricky! :) read more

I wanted this to be good, I really did...but was a tad disappointed. At $50 for two wines, an entree and two mains the price (for the city) was pretty good, but unfortunately the food was just 'meh'. It wasn't bad, it just didn't really amaze us. The Spring Rolls were tasty, and the Crispy Pork was fair, but the Pad Thai a little below par. Nice location, friendly staff. Food here is great but service is just terrible. Food slow coming out, waited 40 minutes for entrees at lunch when restaurant was half empty, even longer wait when busy. Formally my fave lunchtime restaurant but as an office worker, I don't have 90mins for a standard eat-in lunch order, and if the staff were on their game they'd realize how long you'd be waiting for food to save you following it up multiple times like I've had to on my last two visits. I won't be back, and after speaking to other people who used to frequent this restaurant, they have similar stories to share. read more

Genuinely one of the best Thai's in Australia. After getting takeaway one night, we had to go back there for a sit in diner two days later. Takewaway was reasonably priced, good sizes and most importantly authentically tasty! BBQ Chicken, Curries and rice dishes were perfect. We returned on a Wednesday night and the place was packed. Nearly every table ordered a dish in a half of a pineapple, but since my partner and boy don't like pineapple, we stayed away from what seemed like their signature dish. I had the duck which was extremely flavorsome and came with plenty of vegetables. My boy stayed with his BBQ Chicken which he loved, whilst my partner enjoyed a different curry this time around. All prepared with perfection. They had no problem accommodating our pram in the dining area. It only lost a star for not catering to children, ie no smaller spoons or plastic plates for example. On top of this, the food took forever, which most diners do not mind so they can chat and catch-up but as there was really nothing to do for the children - it felt even longer. Again, I am not suggesting that Phat Elephant 'has to have' colouring sheets or anything, but if You couple this with the waiting time on a Wednesday night (and we were 'early' before the diner rush) it means minus one star. Phat Elephant is a very nice spot on Post Office Square with an open, covered seating area. There is a great selection of drinks: traditional Thai options to beer and wine. I enjoyed the fresh (HOT) roti and satay sauce along with the crispy pork belly with rice. I ordered the main as mild (with chili on the side), but I think next time I'd try medium. read more
