One of the best selling points and features of Piranha is that for every $20 spent, you get a $1 wooden coin back, so you get a 20:1 ratio of money back on all purchases. It may not mean much, but after stockpiling 15 wooden coins and blowing them on a record, the feeling is unbeaten. The staff is humorous and great. After Record Store Day last year, I pulled up after failing to grab a copy of the Blue Notes Alts n Ins record, and the owner gave me props for grabbing it because he personally thought it was one of the coolest releases in the collection. He asked if I had come there just to buy it or stumbled upon it. I told him I was seeking it out, and I got the nod of approval. Best day of my life. I do not think this record store has much of a purpose to visit if you are deep in Austin, since independent stores in Austin have pretty similar stock, but living in Hutto and for the people in Round Rock and Georgetown, this is a great spot and a place I love to support. Not the bright fluorescent certainty of chain stores, where a paperback somehow costs $32 and the store layout suggests a focus group spent eighteen months determining the optimal placement of tote bags. A softer light. The light of books that have already survived one life and are patiently waiting for another. Lioness Books in Leander feels like that. The place carries the atmosphere of somewhere built by people who genuinely love books rather than quarterly earnings reports. The shelves hold both new and used titles, creating the dangerous and wonderful illusion that restraint is possible. It is not. A visit intended to produce one reasonably priced novel can quickly become a stack of seven books and a conversation about whether there is room for another bookshelf at home. There is something deeply reassuring about the coexistence of new books and old ones. The new books arrive full of possibility. The used books arrive with character. Some of them look as though they have survived college dorm rooms, cross-country moves, questionable relationships, and at least one season of intense self-improvement. I personally love a tabbed used book because I also experience other reader's experiences with that book. Scattered throughout the store are reading spots that seem specifically designed to make errands disappear from memory. There are comfortable places indoors and lovely places outdoors, all of them quietly encouraging the radical act of sitting still with a book for an hour and pretending email does not exist. Did I mention cookies are available too. The staff are wonderfully friendly. Not "Have a nice day" friendly. Actually friendly. The kind of people who can recommend a novel, discuss obscure authors, and somehow avoid making anyone feel inadequate for not having read a 900-page Russian masterpiece during a long weekend. What feels most important about Lioness Books, however, extends beyond the books themselves. The store exists in a cultural moment when some people seem alarmingly committed to protecting readers from the dangerous possibility of reading things. Entire campaigns have been launched against books as though a novel might leap off a shelf, steal a car, and lead impressionable citizens into lives of empathy and critical thinking. Lioness Books understands that literature works differently. Stories are not threats. They are invitations. The shelves reflect a commitment to representation, diverse voices, and the idea that the human experience is far too complicated to be reduced to a single perspective. The collection acknowledges a simple truth: every person deserves the opportunity to find a story that feels like a mirror, and every person benefits from finding stories that function as windows. A bookstore should not be a gate. A bookstore should be a doorway. Lioness Books understands this. As a result, the store feels less like a business and more like a small sanctuary for the incurably curious. A place where stories are protected, conversations are welcomed, and book lovers can gather without being judged for buying three more novels despite the unread pile at home already resembling a structurally questionable piece of architecture. Some places sell books. Lioness Books celebrates them. And in an age of algorithms, outrage, and endless scrolling, there is something almost revolutionary about a room full of stories, comfortable chairs, kind people, and the stubborn belief that reading remains one of the best things human beings have ever invented.

They graciously offer them for whatever the person wants to pay for them. I got a wonderful book about bugs for my grandchildren, it has a original price tag on the back of $24.99. This book literally looks brand new. I gave them $10 which I think is a fair price for a secondhand book. I think it's important not to take advantage of their generosity. They also have CDs for music and books on tape and a children's section and fiction and non-Fiction. This is an excellent resource right here in our beautiful Georgetown! The ladies who work here are so kind and generous and sweet and considerate. They were very helpful. I highly recommend this store. I'm going to save this book for a Christmas gift. It is in such good condition. My grandkids are gonna love it!

The owner conveyed this a woman owned and woman led bookstore. She also said some of their key bookstore tenets was inclusion, intersectionality, and authenticity. A total of 5 authors shared their thoughts on becoming authors, challenges and opportunities. The authors discussed different genres of books - children books, sci-fi, romance, poems and biographies. One author shared some thought-provoking messages: "You don't what you think until you see what you say. Words were currency and powerful." She also said her mother never asked her how her day was but instead what questions did you ask in class. She indicated these questions provoked deeper conversations. This was a great event...

There are plenty of places for you to take a seat and relax, try out your new potential book or wait for others in your party to shop. If you want/need information or have questions they are more than happy to help and love to have conversations about books with you. I love the creak of the floorboards while walking around and it is always a comfortable, cool temperature.
