This days journey takes me to the states capital, I'm searching for some collectables and no better place then "Collectors Crossroads" well at least in my humble opinion. I personally have never been there and I was under the impression that it was a sport memorabilia and movie-collectables. It I was surprised at the vast majority of items. They had the usual sports memorabilia but movie, television, anime, music, books and collectables. But that's not the end, they had high end purses, Egyptian artifacts, Mesopotamian artifacts, ancient swords and world war ll artifacts. They run the gamut of unusual items. If you can't find it here you'll probably won't find it anywhere, or you can ask they might be able to find it for you. Because the people are super friendly and extremely helpful. I highly recommend this place for finding that unique gift or item you are looking for.

I always come here for my comics and to update my Pokemon collection. This store offers almost everything you can imagine as far as collectibles. The antic side of things is also amazing. On most occasions the staff is always friendly and helpful. But i always have sense of refreshment coming here because how everything is organized.

Actually, second time coming here! They have many antique collections and many other collectibles that have quite bit of values like cards and games as well as drawings! It's like a small museum in a sense! Personally, I enjoyed looking around! Will be back again! Cheers

This business is just down the road really, I have seen it a ton of times, even noticed the art on the side but never stopped in here. It was the first stop in my wife's planned birthday weekend for me! The place is HUGE and has EVERYTHING from sports memorabilia to antiques. Comics, Statues, art, movie collectables, even Vampire hunting kits and old campaign buttons and the like. Even some random mayor campaigns from all over. My wife loved the huge and varied collection of things and memorabilia they had to offer. The staff was friendly and super knowledgeable and it was fun seeing all the stuff and hearing the stories and history. We did discover that people collect locks of hair and not to judge but that seems way more niche then I even realized. To each their own. We both love history but found out we didn't really need to see Napoleons or Monroe's hair. On that note, it is very pricey, others have pointed that out, they have graded comics and tons of stuff but it is very pricey and according to some of the reviews you can get the same stuff cheaper online or elsewhere. Also and I hate this anywhere, no restrooms. You have to leave, which to me breaks the spell you have going. You want to keep people there, seeing stuff and hope they buy. Honestly if I have to leave for the restroom I am not coming back. It's a sore spot with me pretty much anywhere. The one that got me was they had some stuff displayed behind the counter, a Jason Voorhees signed picture, a cool shadow box type display of Jason's Mask with Freddy's glove coming up to cover it, and a sign Freddy Kruger picture. No prices so we asked as my wife and I got married as Freddy and Jason and thought the box would be cool. But you can only buy all three and they wanted $1,500 for all of it. So no sale. I am giving it one extra star then I normally would due to the fact I see a lot of complaints about the service but we had great service, friendly and knowledgeable. I did find all 12 issues of Squadron Supreme for a good prices in a set. The items were cool to see, a comic of Spidey's first meeting with Dr. Doom, guns, swords, and so much. It is a cool place to visit, I don't see becoming a regular but glad I went.

I came into this location for the first time today. When walking into the establishment, consumers are wowed with rare finds ranging from signed sports memorabilia, comic books, action figures, vintage gaming sets, WWII and German Reich items, Roman Empire armor, a Fabergé egg, designer handbags, vinyl records and other antiques and one of a kind collectables. This is a place for the collectors collector! Thing One and I roamed the isles for about 30 minutes looking at so many items while going "ooh ah" -Grits After perusing, Thing One found an item he liked (and something that my wallet could afford), which was a comic book. The price for the comic book after tax was just over $8, which was extremely expensive as this comic book retails for $4 (that's a 50% mark up, yowza!). While Thing One was happy with this purchase and the person who rang us up was hospitable, I don't foresee myself going back any time soon as the prices here are a little excessive for me. As far as the prices are concerned in this establishment overall; in the words of O.T. Genasis, "Your price is way too high, you need to cut it..."

    Keychains

Was pointed to this place as I was told they sold gunpla model kits. They do. But only four kits. Not saying this is the reason why they are receiving 2 stars but due to these reasons: - Gunpla model kit had the original msrp of $80 sticker on the box. However, they are selling it for $125. A $45 markup. - The legitimacy of the one piece keychains is also questionable as they do not look like the keychains on the side of the box. Of course they're made in China. "$8 by the way" - It seems like they do work on commission somewhat? As they are constantly being a hawk on your every move and it gives off the salesman vibe without the knowledge of the product they are selling. - Yes I do agree with all the reviews where all merchandise are overpriced and marked up for a ridiculous amount. Overall the store has a lot of stuff but I wouldn't spend a dime here if you are looking for collectible's as they are way overpriced.

Magic the Gathering singles that can be bought for a single penny being sold for 50x that amount.

I came in to sell some MTG cards -- Don't bother. I brought in a $35 card from the newest set that one of the staff looked up on TCGPlayer with me to verify that it was selling for $35 (I had to wait for him to get off his lunch break too), and he told me he would only give me a small percentage for it. I thought I misheard him at first because I thought that I would be getting the value for my card and he'd be taking a cut. This was not the case. They lowballed me so hard it was ridiculous, and their excuse was that "Oh, it just takes a while for the cards to sell. Those cards you see over there have been sitting there for years." Like that's just karma dude, you tried to give me $7 for a $35 card. Also, they have some Pokémon and Magic the Gathering singles boxes. They're about 50 cents a card, which is so overpriced considering that every Magic card I looked at in the box was worth one or two pennies each. And I know for Pokémon you can get 50 different singles for around 5 dollars or less with the right seller on Amazon. Worst store for cards. TL;DR -- They lowball you if you're selling, and they overcharge you if you're buying.

Way overpriced. Paying 20 $$ for a loose SW figure or 80-90$ for a old toy that is missing many parts. I'll stick with Ebay.

According to staff, Breakaway Records opened in 2008, moved to its current North Loop location in 2010, and later expanded the space. The store is clean, well-organized, and with items strategically arranged with excellent signage. There was no piled-on dust that you tend to see in music stores housing old vinyl records. Breakaway's true highlight was the breadth and depth of its music items and accessories. The shop had an extensive collection of used vinyl and 45s, spanning genres as well as ages that primarily focused on soul, jazz, funk, hip hop, international sounds, punk, and rock. Flipping through their vinyl records was easy and enjoyable with some surprise finds. Listening stations let you preview records before you buy. The staff were knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about music. They'll either give you space to browse or gladly answer questions, depending on what you prefer. Breakaway also sells 45, CDs (small section) and record players. The store carries stereo gear and accessories at a range of prices including turntables, receivers, speakers, and small essentials. They did not have any small music tapes or 8-track tapes...probably my nieces and nephews have never heard of these. Smile. Great discovery...great visit...

I don't fault Waterloo for that because they were asked to leave. The place is great and their collection is awesome just like the originally. I really think they just picked up their stock and moved it. It is in a great spot, they do great events with artists from in-store performances to listening parties, and I feel that they have so many great collections in genres that some record stores don't have like in electronic music and jazz. The genres represented at Waterloo are always eclectic and their stock is always pretty substantial. My wallet always hurts after visiting, but that's part of record collecting. RIYL: Record hunting

Last week, for 3/20, the store organized a listening party for BTS' new album "ARIRANG." The way it was presented on social media, it seemed like a fun event for the local ARMYs (fandom name) to attend and have fun together. This release is significant to us because it was the first comeback after a long hiatus. It was highly anticipated and people were genuinely stoked and excited. So when you see a local business organize an event, you want to be there and celebrate with people who share the love to this group. Calling it a listening party was an overstatement. You stand in line to register for a raffle. The girl who ran the raffle seemed like she didn't even want be there. She mentioned that people need to write names and last 4 digits of a phone number, which was odd (normally people ask for a full number or email) and she seemed irritated when I was confused about the last 4 digits. By the looks of it, it was under 100 people who were there specifically for the occasion (aside from just customers browsing), not a crazy crowd. So it shouldn't be that difficult to prepare for such a large business. Yet it felt not just underwhelming, but more like no effort was put into it at all. Most fan-organized events gather more people than that and they are in no way a well-known business with a budget and staff. The freebies ran out 10 minutes after stated start time, the CDs sold out even before that, no vinyl for this release was available, I was told they wouldn't get it. A raffle prize was a bootleg canvas print which the girl who ran the raffle announced as "official from the BTS label." Big Hit never released such item for this album merch lineup. Absoluetely nothing against fan-made merch, this community is super welcoming and encouraging to it. However, transparency matters. Overall, equally not a good look whether it was intentionally misrepresented as official item OR just ignorance about the matter. Nothing was done to create an exciting event and engage people who might have turned down other plans to attend this "listening party." Once dropped your name for the raffle, you just wait around and maybe flip through the records while the new album plays on the background (not even very loud). That's it. I can do that on any random Tuesday - come to the store and flip through records while listening to music on my headphones. If you don't know what to do but want to organize an event worth attending, connect with local fans! There's a whole community of enthusiasts in the city (and online) of people who regularly organize fan events locally and would be stoked to do this. It would've been less frustrating if Waterloo just ignored this release and did nothing. At the end of the day, kpop community wouldn't expect a business that doesn't specialize on kpop to participate in celebrating this new album. This "event" was a huge disappointment and a great example of what happens when non-enthusiasts try to capitalize on something they have no clue about.
