I had the unique opportunity to play the private Windsong Farm course on a cool, breezy October…read moreafternoon with several others new to the course. We knew that the layout would prove to be challenging, so we split into two-man scramble teams to try to keep things moving. It had rained the prior evening, so carts were not allowed even though the course appeared to have drained quite well. The upside is that pulling our bags behind us gave us a modicum of warmth on a borderline playing day. As it should be for a 5-star review, I encountered no significant issues -- frustrating golf challenges certainly, but no issues that dampened my experience (besides the gusting wind on the long Par 3 16th over water, but what a great challenge!). First of all, there are a lot of bunkers on this course (over 70 from what I could count on Google Maps). Most of these are deep-sided with long grass curling around the edges. Drive your ball into one of the fairway bunkers and you'll likely have to come out sideways. The sand is very fine, and even though it was a bit wet during our round, it was very consistent and a lot easier to extricate oneself than the hardpan on some of the munis in the area (don't ask why we were hitting from the sand when we were playing a 2-man scramble!). Secondly, the long prairie grass that lines most fairways was turning stunning shades of tan, purple and red. Really pretty and relaxing as long as you didn't hit into it (in which case don't even try to find your ball). Thirdly, despite the lack of trees and limited over-water carries, you'd better hit a long straight ball if you hope to even bogey some of the longer par 4's. As a bogey golfer, I felt very good if I could scramble to bogey from the Sand tees, and if I had been playing my own ball those would have been the exception scores. Outside of the 16th, Par 3 holes were fairly easy. I actually played the long Par 5's quite well for some reason, but there is a lot of trouble to be found. We had a great outing and really appreciated the opportunity. Interaction with course staff was limited to a short conversation in the small-ish but nicely appointed Pro Shop. Members will have to provide reviews on other aspects of the club, but I would certainly consider joining if I played enough golf in retirement to justify membership. So, how did we score you ask? 5-over on the Front and 6-over on the Back as the wind picked up and our senior bodies tired. Not too bad for not knowing the course or having any sort of rangefinder. If there's a next time I will play my own ball to see how I do!

There were a few people in front of me, but the pace of play was fantastic with minimal waiting. No one can complain about 18 holes in under 3 hours! The course is looking better and better every year. All of the bunkers have new sand in them which I made sure to try out four different times to have a thorough review ;). The greens rolled true and had decent speed. There are a few unique holes on this course that require some strategy and shot making to do well. It definitely isn't wide open and there is a lot of potential to lose balls. There are also a few holes that are lined with houses on one side or the other. The typically don't come into play unless you hit a very poor shot. If you are a decent golfer, this is a really fun course. If you have trouble getting the ball in the air regularly, this would be very very frustrating. The only negative is that the bugs were bad. I would suggest taking some bug spray with you. There were two holes on the front nine that are quite damp, and I thought I was going to be carried away by the mosquitoes. The rest of the course were still buggy but tolerable. It may have been due to it still being relatively early and I was walking making me an easy meal.

While I understand costs have increased, the cost per head was still higher than many other places around and the selection and quality went significantly lower than years past. Here are the noticeable changes that disappointed my family, No fresh veggie trays (not everyone likes roasted veggies) Lack of cold seafood (shrimp, salmon) Lack of deserts (only cupcakes this year) Lack of salad choices- again only one Kid friendly dishes, this year even scrambled eggs had cooked fish in them Waffles had fruit - none that were just plain. Then for seating at 10, all food should be out and ready, yet many items were not out until 10:15-10:30. While the food was still delicious, the lack of choices from years past really hit us as "not special" any more. Nothing unique over other brunches.

Goats, cows, donkeys, ducks, and chickens! The mini golf is rated #1 in Minnesota and I think it is truly the best (closely followed by can can). Super creative artist designed course! They only accept cash so be prepared! Golf is somewhat pricey with prices being 14 dollars a person per round. But makes for good fun. Goat feed is relatively cheap at $4. Admission to just art is I believe 4.50. Make sure to visit in the spring/early for farm babies! And feed the friendly highland cow in the back!

I played the other day and the rough was so long it was growing through the benches. The greens were sunburned and the fairways looked like they were strangled with chemicals. The tee boxes are all divots and mud. There are so many ropes up it feels like a guinea pig habit trail.

After, the cart guy drove up very close nearly running his foot over and starting cussing us out, saying " fuck off shit boy, I hope the next ball you hit deflects off and hits you" and other bad things. I probably wouldn't…read morehave played here if I didn't have the pass as it is an hour drive from Minneapolis, but figured I'd give it a try and play somewhere new. The track plays like your typical muni course with muni conditions - the greens are small, the fairways are not as nice as other western courses like Pebble Creek. It is a good course to walk (except if it is muddy in the "forest" that you walk through between a few holes. It was a warm day and there was not one jug of water on the course - and no beverage cart. The clubhouse is older and lacks some of the amenities of other courses. Play was on the fast side which is good - it is mostly flat and straight. Number 12 is a cool par 3 hole requiring a 140 yard carry over wetlands and a precision hit on a well guarded green. Also - the price was right. It is one of the few options in the area for locals but probably not a destination course from the Twin Cities.
