Omps provided horrible, Unfeeling and uncaring service to my family when my 40 year old son who was also a father sadly and suddenly died of a heart attack. The service was the worst possible! They overcharged us and acted in a rude and unprofessional way. Even using an inappropriate attempt at Funeral Humor. Which as a grieving parent is about the last thing you wish to hear. You make up your own mind I think behavior such as this has no place at any time or in any place. We certainly will not ever again use this organization!

The Funeral Director, Matthew Shehan, was nothing less than perfect in his work ethic, professionalism and compassion in assisting our family with the details in the handling of Bonnie's funeral arrangements. At first we weren't sure that we were going to have an open casket because we didn't think that she would look like herself but Matthew assured us that he would be able to and he did. We were able to find and compile many photos of Bonnie and sent them to Matthew. By the next day he was able to get them processed into a memorial DVD to be played at the planned memorial service. The DVD photo montage was very professional and tastefully produced. He also chose the perfect photos to use for bookmarks and programs and those turned out beautiful as well. I have nothing but high praise for Matthew Shehan and all the staff at Omps Funeral Home. Special thanks to Kandis Jenkins for assisting us with follow up paperwork and copies. More than 5,000 Union soldiers are buried there -- many of them killed in the endless fighting that tore through the Shenandoah Valley during the Civil War. Some have names. Many do not. Winchester itself became one of the most fought-over towns in America. The town changed hands over 70 times during the war and saw THREE major battles: * First Winchester (1862) -- Stonewall Jackson launched a surprise attack that sent Union General Nathaniel Banks retreating north in panic. The victory helped turn Jackson into a Confederate legend. * Second Winchester (1863) -- Confederate General Richard Ewell crushed Union defenses just weeks before Gettysburg, capturing thousands of Union soldiers and opening the road north for Lee's invasion. * Third Winchester (1864) -- one of the bloodiest battles in the Shenandoah Valley. Sheridan's Union forces slammed into Confederate lines around forts, fields, and stone walls surrounding the town. Casualties piled up by the thousands. Walking that cemetery today, you realize you aren't looking at one battle. You're looking at years of accumulated sacrifice from the same valley. Young men from Vermont. Ohio farm boys. Massachusetts factory workers. Immigrants from New York. And now they all rest together beneath identical white stones. That's what Memorial Day is really about -- not just history, but remembering the human cost behind it. We were very impressed with the care this area took to preserve these sacred grounds.
