This hospital used to be the best place to go for medical care but has fallen hard and fast over the last 5 years. My mother has had 2 separate times of her going to the emergency department, usually late at night, and been sent to sit in the waiting room for HOURS. Once, we thought that she had a massive leaking infection in a recent surgical site (thank God that was not the case!) and she waited for 4 hours before we realized our mistake and she decided to just come home. Tonight, she needed help with an extremely painful leaking cyst on the back of her thigh. She wad made to sit on that extremely painful cyst (being flat out denied a place to at least lay down as she cried in the waiting room) for FIVE HOURS. Meanwhile, every cough and sneeze that walked in was given a bed before her. I don't know what happened to patient care at this "hospital" but clearly it has died in a corner somewhere....I recommend checking the waiting area. read more

The hospital staff was good. But the home healthcare manager is sub-par. She decided to stop sending workers but neglected to inform the patient. That is a dangerous situation considering they are dealing with people with medical problems. I tried talking to her and had answers for her concerns but she just kept talking over me and would not listed. So I would recommend Phelps Hospital but definitely not Phelps Home Healthcare unless they get a new manager with management skills. read more

I went to Phelps Health Dr after hours in Rolla on Aug 24. I was seen by Mr Jones, nurse practitioner. I can say this was the worse care professional I have ever came in contact with. I am a 68 year old female that was having severe left shoulder pain. I was concerned it could be my heart or pneumonia as I just finished a dose of antibiotics for sickn. He stayed across the room in front of his computer the whole time. Did not examine me in any way. Today I noticed in his notes that he examined different things. it would have been impossible to do this across the room. I will not be going back to this facility. read more

Dr. Chukwudi Nwodo literally told me what I was telling him didn't warrant a visit to the ER and I wasted my time... yet had zero issue with leaving me and my 2 year old in a room for 5 hours... the nurse was FAR more helpful then the actual doctor..10/10 do NOT recommend!! Now I have a huge bill and have to drive to an hour and a half to Children's Hospital to a specialist and have procedures done... read more

Took my wife to the ER Tuesday morning for intense pain. After her battle with cancer we take these things serious. Obviously more serious than the ER staff. By the end of the visit the staff became rude and made my wife feel like she was there pain med shopping. Had they looked at her chart, they would have seen that she doesn't take pain meds. Even through cancer she refused pain medication as long as possible. The nurse came and if it hurts just take IBUPROFEN Which made no sense because my wife is allergic to ibuprofen. Which is clearly stated in her records. In fact, they ask you that question several times during your visit. As a retired military family we have visited ER's all over the world. In fact a visit to the ER in TCMH discovered her cancer Instead of saying , take an ibuprofen and making her feel they're pain fake. As we follow-up in the next couple weeks, to find out what's wrong with her. If it is something serious, I will not hesitate to seek legal counsel. Shame on you. read more

Their billing department sucks. Very hard to get a hold of and they consistently billed my insurance wrong despite multiple phone calls and messages telling them how to bill it. On my most recent attempt, she neglected to even try re-billing it, and told me to pay for it myself. read more

My husband was told he had left side heart failure and needed to go to the cardiologist at the hospital. After checking his vitals and listening to his heart, the doctor asked him, "what are you here for,?" My husband told him about his heart failure and the cardiologist told him, he was perfectly healthy. Later we got a bill for almost $4000 for that visit. Really? The first doctor misdiagonosed him, sent him to another Phelps County doctor, insurance didn't pay very much and now we owe over $4000 for all this? I saw another review that said they keep renaming the hospital b/c of the reviews, that is true and a known fact. read more

They keep renaming this facility so that the reviews go away. Now the name is Phelps Health instead of Phelps county regional. This is an awful facility. Read the google reviews. They double bill you. The ER is a joke and they never check for anything. You end up coming out of ER where they could do a 6 hour CT scan to wait a month for a CT scan. I went to ER for a fast Ct scan which was needed. They refused to do it. Now I'm booked for 2 weeks from now. That is 25 days after the ER. They wasted 25 critical days. Staff are mostly frustrated and unmotivated. No one cares about your health. They just care about billing. Most of the times you get double billing and you need to ask your insurance company to call them and fix it. Once they charged me $7000 extra. An agent from the United Healthcare had to call and fix the issue. Same yourselves and don't use this facility. read more

My husband and I have been treated at Phelps since 1965. We have had several hospitalizations, surgeries and outpatient services. I read a review that stated this was a terrible place; I firmly disagree. We have always been treated with caring, concern and have never had anyone fail to take great care of us. They ARE willing, professional and at the same time, friendly. They are also well-trained and happy to go the additional mile for any patient. As a result of heart problems and a stroke, my husband has many, many doctor appointments and is always listened to and the staff does all they can to address his concerns. I give this facility a 10 on a 1-10 scale and am very glad that I live in this area and don't have to go to St. Louis, Columbia or Springfield for care. would not reccomend going to this hospitals emergency room. they will try and make you go broke. took my son there for rsv and for just a few test done the charges us $4,555.55. I have never been charged that much money for an emergency room visit ever. we will not be going back to Phelps Health. I would rather die before going there. read more

Waited an hour and a half for lab results for a friend at 2-4 am. Nurses do not come to check if patients are comfortable or if they need anything, and take a half hour to grab anything as simple as water. Nurse got really upset with my dehydrated friend for not producing a urine sample but failed to ensure to get him more water or check on him. Staff needs a reality check ASAP read more

Dr.s here are good, no complaints about the couple drs I see. The prices this hospital charges for labs, xrays, any testing is astronomical ! Some of the priciest in MO !! It is absurd. An example is 2 bloodwork tests I needed. They were to charge almost $600, I was able to get it done at the Health dept for $12.36 ! Will not get anymore testing of any kind done at this hospital ! my daughter had her new baby at phelps, the hospital is great, the dr. aboagye was excellent and the o b nurses where helpful, friendly, and just an all around great staff. this has been a great hospital to visit. even the food is as good or better then a restaurant. good place to have your baby. the staff seemed really qualified and professional. dr beena green was an excellent dr. she came to check on the baby and even held her for a minute. melissa was a great nurse with excellent memory read more

A friend of mine recommended a Dr here, who could help me. I was a bit concerned because I was from out of town, and it was the day after Christmas, but needed help. I called in to the clinic to see Dr. Ken Lyman was able to see me that day. So I showed up at the Medical Group building where their clinic was. Was very thankful to see only a few people ahead of me. My insurance from Florida was accepted, and it was treated as a regular doctor office trip, and was gotten in almost immediately. Dr Lyman was able to help me out and then was able to call a dermatology friend of his to help me out and get me in that day. All in all, this clinic was able to help an out of towner get care the day after Christmas. Their Walk-In clinic was a good choice. read more

On Friday my grandson had surgery tonsils adenoids in tubes in the ear. Saturday at 11 pm temp 102. Took to ER was told thermometer was wrong. Heart rate up and down. They came in unplug monitor. After 1 hour in room no doctor came to see him. Check him out. Went to Columbia hospital. He was put in hospital for Sunday, Monday and home on Tuesday. Called Sunday made complaint with patient services. Was I would get a phone call back. No return call yet. Worse ER I ever seen. Had to give one star to post. - 10 stars read more

I was diagnosed with a blocked ureter and failing kidney at my small local hospital and was transferred by ambulance in the middle of the night to Phelps County Regional Medical Center. I was taken to an operating room and had a stent put in which removed the blockage. I spent 3 days on the Surgical Ward at PCRMC. I had two wonderful doctors; my Hospitalist, Dr. Gueco, and my Urologist, Dr. Leon Becerrill. Both of them are professional, personable and dedicated. I could not have asked for better. The nurses and other staff were kind and caring and responsive to my needs. I can't give 5 stars only because I hate being in the hospital! read more

This is about the service that I got in ER. It was terrible. No montring and caring was provided, they will throw you one of the rooms and take useless tests that will not digeonst your sickness nothing else. Finally, you will see the Doctor after 5 hours no matter how your feeling is. It just long process and bad stuff. My advice is that go any where else or stay in your home rather than going to this hospital. read more

The outpatient surgical department is unprofessional and totally inept. I tried to get a simple procedure done. I jumped through so many hoops for these people. They told me to be there by 9. Then they left voicemail to be there by 11. Next voicemail said 10. The morning of the procedure at 9:15, they left a voicemail to come immediately. I got there and after answering multiple questions for the 4th time. They took me in a room and saie it would be another hour, hour and a half before I would be wheeled to the procedure room. I couldn't take it anymore. I got up and left the facility. This in no way reflected on the physician. They must have had numerous past problems to ask me the same questions over and over again. I even went to an anesthia clinic the friday prior to the procedure. Prior to that they lost the results of my Holter Monitor. They still charged Medicare and myself. I just have no faith in this facility. My opinion is to stick with Mercy. read more

Care was fine but the billing department is terrible. I filled out their financial aid papers when we learned I would need to have an ultrasound and a biopsy. I returned the papers with the necessary information they requested. Two weeks later, I hadn't heard anything so I called the office myself. I was told that my stuff was incomplete and I would need to completely redo it and include my husband's information. I did this, faxed it in and didn't hear anything. I thought everything was fine and taken care of until about a month later, I received a call from a very nice lady who worked in a different office - she was calling to collect for the imaging fee (I believe). I told her I had faxed all of that in and she was very understanding. On top of that, I was extremely worried that all this stuff had seemingly vanished from their office as it had copies of mine and my husband's incomes,bank statements, copies of our work schedules to show our hours were getting cut for winter, copies of my drivers license and his green card and social security card - an identify theft dream come true - just vanished from their office as if I had never sent it! The lady told me to go ahead and fill it out all out again but to hurry as there was a time limit on when it could be done and obviously I was very close by this time as it had been nearly two months. I did so, mailed it in when the address she gave me and a week later, I called. They never received it. I was furious by this point. I offered to drive it over there myself and was told not to do that. I filled it all out again, sent it in (the lady said the address was correct) and never heard anything back. I thought, "Okay, this is all taken care of - they got it and aren't calling anymore, phew!" I never received a bill or anything. Fastforward to a week ago (mind you, this is nearly a full year after my procedure), I have a letter from a law firm in my mail. I open it and it's collections threatening to sue me. I was devastated! I called the attorney's office and did my research - it's a legitimate law firm and not just a bully collection agency called "Law Firm." They said there was really nothing I could do at this point but pay it - no financial aid will be offered. So because the PCRMC billing department dropped the ball more than once, I have to pay the entirety of this stuff in full, which probably wouldn't be quite so bad if the prices didn't seem so inflated. $3400 for an ultrasound? Really? And that's after the $200 I already paid at my appointment. So yes, they drop the ball, it punches my credit in the face, I'm being threatened to be sued AND I can't get any help because it's past their statute of limitations. Upon further research, I am not the only person having this problem or similar. Collection agencies for PCRMC go after people who should have had their appointments and procedures billed to their insurance, but they weren't because the billing department didn't do it and then once it's been 8 months or so, the insurance company won't cover it. There have been incidents of them taking monthly automatic payments from people's checking accounts or on credit cards and then suddenly stopping and turning it over to collections. At this point, I have decided to contact the Better Business Bureau. This is clearly an ongoing problem. read more

I cut off part of my ring finger. Went to the ER, what a joke. The bone was sticking out of the end of my finger. They half ass cleaned it and sent me home for 3 days. 2700.00 bill to insurance. Orthopedic surgeon saw me and said I should have never walked out of the ER. He sent me for an x-ray and it still had bone and metal fragments in it. Not to mention the horrible infection in it. They say they are about the patient, when it's more like the money. The people who were in the ER that day are still at the hospital. They did nothing about what happened after I contacted them about it. If you can go elsewhere I would recommend it. They don't care. read more

This hospitals ICU was terrible to my husband the patient and to me the concerned wife. I would never recommend this hospital! They are unprofessional, unethical, and simply did not care about or value my husbands life. After 28 hours in the ICU they released him litterly kicking him out and escorting us out. The nurse was taking his iv out in the parking lot as they were rushing him out the hospital! I had to take him directly to the city to the hospital where he spent 5 days in ICU and almost died! Luckily, he came to a full recovery! I have hired an attorney and will be taking them to court praying this never happens again to another human being! They are completely inhumane and should be shut down immediately! The Drs and nurses should also lose their medical license they displayed the most disgusting display of character I have ever seen! I saw many negative reviews mostly billing issues, When my 83 year old Mother, was rushed there after a fall, she received the best of care. The staff was very kind to her, they provided what she needed. The Doctor was very profession and considerate. They were patient with Mom and answered all of my questions. They sent her home with a care plan and they checked up on us the next day. read more

This is the only hospital in the area. Sullivan, Mo has the nearest hospital(to my knowledge). This is privately owned and is not funded by county or state tax money. That is good, but it allows them to charge almost twice as normal hospitals. Since they are the only hospital in the area they can get away with over charging as well. I had a CT Scan and it was $5300. I had one done 6 months later at a hospital in St. Louis and it was $2100...same test, read by the same type of doctor. WTF?!?! I refused to pay the difference and got a lawyer involved and I WON! Unless you are in immediate danger, make the trip to Sullivan or somewhere else!!! read more

I went to this hospital because it was the only place open. THey double billed me on the same day. Same billing code twice on the same day. When I received the total amount it was in the form of a cover letter. There was not a statement in the envelope. I had to call and get them to mail me an actual statement of what was done. With that I found the double billing. They tried to up-sale me into a CT, and tried to make me feel bad for declining. This is proper medical care? Turns out I got better without the CT. No telling what the CT would have cost. Go anywhere else, unless you have unlimited funds. They will do unnecessary procedures and bill you hard for them. read more

The E.R. at PCRMC is fairly well run but the charges are ridiculous! My teenage daughter sprained her wrist and it continued to hurt after heat/ice and pain relievers. We needed to find out if it was fractured. I took her to PCRMC's Emergency Department as I knew she'd need an X-ray. BAD IDEA! She was seen quickly in a triage room, taken to X-ray, returned to a small closet-like storage area (obviously a room in transition) and given a splint. The charges, when I finally saw them were over $1600 for the hospital fees and nearly $500 for the nurse practitioner. The charge for the xrays was north of $400 for two films and the charge for the splint was nearly $150! But the kicker was almost $1000 for walking in the door. She didn't actually make it into an E.R. exam room, mind you. When I finally got a response from someone at the hospital he told me they had to charge people who could pay and insurance companies that much because they don't make enough money on Medicaid and Medicare patients and too many people just don't pay at all. So for $2100 in charges my daughter was given a split I could have purchased at Walgreens for $10. I recommend you drive to Sullivan, Washington, Jefferson City, Springfield or St. Louis rather than use this very expensive E.R. read more

My daughter got the end of her finger cut off. They didn't close the wound because there wasn't enough skin, they didn't call in a plastic surgeon to soften the skin and repair the wound. While she was having an xray performed someone stole $120 from her wallet. They didn't send her home with any pain relief even lthough I requested that specifically, instead they sent her home with a prescription for 2 days of pain pills that had to be filled. OK, SHE CUT OFF HER FINGER! You KNOW she will be in pain for more than 2 days. Now I will have to pay another co-pay for the necessary pain pills. She has never been on pain pills so they make her nauseous, no Rx for Zofran?! Freaking amateurs. I was over 2 hours away otherwise I would never have allowed any if this crap-circus. read more

Charges are excessive. Shop around, you can do better. ER care is lacking quality with poor outcomes. Selective physicians are very good, but mediocrity generally dominates the institution. Very poor operational efficiencies result in excessive charges. Use caution in identifying who are physicians and who are PAs or NPs. The review by Michaelle thought Dr. Lyman was a physician. I will tell you this...unless your breathing your last breaths...take it at least to Washington...everything about this place is wrong,wrong wrong,....my diagnosis was wrong ...my doctor...who I believe was a nurse practitioner...had no sympathy...for me...taking patients in order to relevance...big joke! My husband finally had to tell them if I did not get taken care of he was gona call someone to get me where I needed to be...the emergency was really just full of people who had the flu...which don't get me wrong...can be severe....but I was sitting there with 6 broken bones and significant bone bruising... I got my bill which I had to call them about...because they told me they did not know I had insurance..which is crazy cause they made a copy of it...gave me a pain pill...told me ok everything looks good nothing broke...then came back and said well maybe one bone but it looks like a old injury"?....I have never been treated like that....the only person I have anything good to say about is the gal or nurse who put my half cast on because the swelling was so bad....they did not want to put anything over the top...And now they have sent me a bill.....hmmmm for what? They did nothing for me..never ever again ...and I am not done with this....I can tell you this much...if you need to talk to me let me know..oh and I am still laying down ..not allowed to put any weight on foot and will still be like this for at least another 4 weeks and have been like this for 5 weeks already....like I said I am not done with this.....I can not give a bad enough review for this place and will be seeing what I can do legally. read more
