Yes, she said. I think that's great. 2) A lot of the food seems to come from Whole Foods. (Not sure if that's a good thing or not, as they're owned by pretty greedy Amazon now.) 3) A lot of the prepackaged stuff is organic. 4) I think It's nice everyone can choose theitems he/she wants. Someone usually cites that said the number of things in each distribution group we can have. I sustained one exception to that the last time I was there3/13/23. one of the regular volunteers informed me I could have as many pantry items I wanted. Don't quote me but I think she said that was because I was there within earshot of the closing of the hour long giveaway time frame so sufficient edibles were there still. (I don't know, that said where they store "leftover stuff that needs refrigeration or freezer space. There's a small free parking lot on Carson street that's across the street from the pantry entrance which isn't on GREEN LANE, ACTUALLY. (If you've a car this is an important point to be aware of -- the workers here correctly inform me about given how difficult it can be to find parking on a lot of the street in this neighborhood. I think it's far better that groceries and a place like Whole Foods are giving away food they don't want to sell anymore -- due to their (likelihood) notions their customers don't want anything that's almost "expired," (I could go on and on about that $) than trashing these foodstuffs in landfills that are already clearly overburdened, giving rise to global warming hence, etc. Finally given the food here is free when all is said and done it's definitely a good place to frequent if you're interested in just saving your coinson the recent hiked cost of grocery food. Cons - Regarding my query about where refrigerated food is stored here I had a fairly nasty taste of that (no pun intended lol). The last time I was at the pantry I picked up a fairly large plastic container of carrots and celery (see picture) which had an expiration date of 3/12/23 but which I wanted anyway because I've found "expired " things often last a lot longer than what's noted on various food items. Well for the first time in my life these particular veggies were pretty much rotten-- about two weeks after I brought them home. That's VERY unusual for carrots and celery as these pretty hardy vegetables usually last a lot longer than two weeks in my fridge. I'm 100% certain due to the fact they Had NOT BEEN PROPERLY REFRIGERATED -- if in fact they'd been refrigerated at all after Whole Foods donated it to them however their usual (innate capacity shall I say) to withstand pretty accelerated decay was obliterated. That's disappointing that something like that can happen at a food pantry of all places! I'm not trying to belabor the vegetable matter here but since I've already broached ithere's another thing I don't think is great about this pantry For some reason one can't get fresh vegetables here much. I think that's strange and unfortunate. I've usually had to wait 40-45 minutes before being called up to get my items. The wait time here can be tiring, therefore. After all is said and done of course -- to end on a positive note the fact that much of the food here is organic and pretty decent, healthy, etc I've no reason NOT to recommend it.

Its street parking which with all the snow isn't as easy to find as it normally would be but I managed to get a decent spot both trips. Its a little cold when your not moving but once you get started the temperature ends up being just fine. If you live in the area its a little small but not a bad place to participate in an indoor sports league.

I chose to volunteer at MANNA as they are an organization that serves the community by providing healthy meals, even if you have a dietary restriction. They serve meals daily at their location along with making food deliveries to those that are unable to leave their homes. So,in short they similar to having a food kitchen and meals on wheels in one organization. When I arrived, the place was very clean, the staff was very friendly and appreciative of us volunteers. It was a great few hours of volunteering and assisting a worthwhile cause. I look forward to doing it again at MANNA.

Sunday Bfast Rescue is one of the ones that started off kind of shabby and now has expanded and redone the whole place to really compete with the likes of AIDS thrift in South Philly or any thrift store found in the Lower East Side in NYC. They are easy to spot on a corner right next to Coffee Cup Cafe (hit them up for bfast first), there is always plenty of meter parking righ up front. Upon going inside you will find clearly sectioned areas for everything in your home to personal items. I think some thrifts are better known for certain things over others, I personally come here for homegoods and furniture. Most of the things are pretty dated, but in great condition and for excellent prices. This is the kind of place that if you know your way around antiques you could find a few treasures. Aside from homegoods they have plenty of clothes, sporting equipment and curtians etc. The best part is that unlike the larger Impact thrifts around where you have to wait for a special day of the week for a sale, here EVERYDAY they have a sale going on. Depending on the color of the price tag, you can take anywhere from 20-50% off! I personally found a carpet stain removing machine for $5 and tons of party decorations for pennies. They always have very friendly customer service too. Another added bonus is that they take credit cards and all your money helps to fund charity needs. Needless to say, I pop in and out to check out what new things they have, you should too.

It is on the cheaper side for pottery (unless you sign up early for classes at the Fleisher) and they have 3 days of open studio time. I have taken classes with three different teachers and I have enjoyed all of them, though I usually work pretty independently when I am there. Unfortunately I can't speak to the other classes that are offered here because I have never taken any classes other than pottery. However, they offer a wide variety of courses from dance to language to jewelry making (see their website for a full list of courses they offer). They also have some interesting shows in their gallery.

I stopped by during one of the free admission days as part of the Philadelphia 250 Red, White, &…read moreBlue celebrations, and I'm really glad I did. I had no idea this wasn't just a historic site. It's still an active meeting house for the Quaker community, which made the visit feel even more special. The building itself is simple but beautiful, which fits the Quaker philosophy. One side of the meeting house is where worship is still held today, while the other has a small museum-style exhibit about Quaker history, beliefs, and their role in Philadelphia. It isn't huge, but I learned a lot. One of my favorite little touches was the "Find the Fox" activity. It's such a cute idea and made exploring the building a little more interactive. The volunteers and staff were wonderful too. Everyone was welcoming, happy to answer questions, and genuinely excited to share the history. I also appreciated that there was never any pressure to join or convert. It felt like they simply wanted people to learn, which made for a really relaxed and inviting atmosphere. I also have to give a very important shoutout to the air conditioning. We visited on one of the hottest days of the year, and walking inside felt like instant relief. I swear the AC saved our lives. It made it so much easier to slow down, enjoy the exhibits, and spend time looking around instead of rushing back out into the heat. Overall, it's a peaceful little piece of Philadelphia history that's absolutely worth visiting, especially if you enjoy learning about the city's early roots. And if you happen to go on a scorching summer day, the AC is just an added bonus.
