We needed to hit Orangeville to buy some haggis, so I figured we should try to pop in somewhere for lunch while we're there. I did a quick search to see if John Catucci had been to the area with either of his shows, and it turned out Philadelphia Kitchen was featured on You Gotta Eat Here. Decision made! We decided to try a couple of their cheesesteaks, one with wiz and one with mozzarella. After a wait of about 15 minutes, both sandwiches were brought to our table. My first impression was that hey, this doesn't look like a traditional cheesesteak. The wiz one especially only seemed to contain a small line of cheese whiz, which, if you've ever had an authentic cheesesteak, you know is absolutely incorrect. Anyway, even though I wouldn't call either of these sandwiches cheesesteaks in the traditional sense, they turned out to be tasty meat sandwiches regardless. The meat is cooked very well, and the fresh bread provides a nice crunch. Do I wish I'd been served an actual cheesesteak? Yes, definitely. Got the unnamed special (on a small chalkboard with various menu items): a bun with onion, BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, bacon, jalapeño & steak. The bread was crusty & the sandwich had some kick. A friend brought me here telling me it would be the best ever Philly sandwiches. So I had high hopes for this place as he loves food as much as me. The food was really good but I wasn't blown away by the Philly steak sandwich. I like my meat to be seasoned and it was bland. The cheese and onions helped but it lacked something. I added mayo and it helped. Just wish they had even added salt/pepper to the meat. My sandwich also came with mushroom which could have been seasoned as well. I was surprised that I was blown away by the meatball sandwich! Being married to an Italian the one thing you learn is a good meatball and they nailed it. The tomato sauce was just the right amount of acidity and texture. Nice and thick not runny. I highly recommend trying it. The fries are great. Fresh cut and thick. Prefect fit for pairing with the meal. The gravy I wasn't to thrilled about but it's not bad. All in all this is a place I would recommend and I will definitely be coming back. First time stopping here and it was delicious. We ordered the Stallion, and the Canadian and we both really enjoyed them. The Loaded Fries were very good as the grilled onions added a nice flavor. Consider adding a side of gravy or other sauce (like au jus) as the sandwich bread has that chewy, but perfect for a sandwich thing going on. Nice sandwich shop with a kind of a retro vibe. As the name suggests they specialize in Philly cheese steaks which are quite good. Recently stopped in for a bite on my way through town and thought I'd try something different, decided to try the chicken parm sandwich and some onion rings, wasn't at all impressed. I didn't have the best review for this place the first time. I figured I order the philly-cheesesteak and wasn't overall crazy impressed so I decided to venture a little bit away from they norm. I ordered a veal sandwich with cheese and mushrooms. Wow... this was REALLY good. The veal is super tender, the bread is still amazingly crunchy and soft on the inside, but what really got me was the sauce. Their tomato sauce is just amazing. The tomato sauce has some serious flavour to it. You can taste an amazing balance of oregano and parmesan cheese. I really thought this was one of the best veal sandwiches I've had. I thought this place was, as per Yelp's 3* rating, A-OK. Cheesesteak sandwiches are ~$9 sans drinks. They have old school Coca-Cola bottled drinks for $2.25 and I think that was pretty cool, a shoutout to a simpler time! I live in Vancouver however I come to Orangeville once a year to see family and friends. Each visit home I make it a point to see if Philly Kitchen has improved If your eating here due to the "you gotta eat here" recommendation it's worth while to note that the "Philly Kitchen" in Orangeville episode was filmed before the "American Cheesesteak" (Vancouver) episode...if that had have been reversed...."philly" would've never been filmed. You should really watch both episodes and compare...and if you ever find yourself in Vancity I highly encourage you to try them, To this day I eat there a few times a month :). Got there early with only 6 others in the place ordered a Buffalo Steak Sandwich hubby the namesake Philly Cheese order of fries and 2 neat pops AWESOME tender beef great spice not too tough on the ciabatta bun fries done just right...great couple that own and run this hard to find spot but after 12:30 on a Sat the line up was out the door. We will definitely come back to sample up more of Joe's Philly Sandwiches and maybe renovate another part of the house lol!!! Although its a little far from where I live I do have to say its worth the commute. When I arrived it was full with people waiting to pick up their orders and after placing our there was another group of people after us. There is definitely high volume here so please make sure you have the time. Well worth the wait. The sandwich served on an Italian bun was made to perfection. The bun toasted perfectly to give that crunch with every bite. The sandwich was packed in with meat and toppings they were definitely not stingy on the meat or anything on the sandwich for that matter. The meat was super tender and tasty. Not tough at all. The only small complaint that I have was the portion of the poutine was a little stingy but not even worth taking any points away from this review. Second point: My wife quite liked her Buffalo steak sandwich, so maybe I just got unlucky. Anatomy of my "veal sandwich with cheese and fried onions": Bread: 70% Onions: 15% "Veal" 10% [of which 80% was soggy breading] Honestly, the entire cutlet was about the size of my index and middle fingers put together. It was also frozen and I believe it was just heated up on the flat top, so it was not crispy in any way, shape, or form. "Cheese": 5%. There was something white and a bit melted in the corner of the bun...I can only hope it was, in fact, cheese. I'm guessing the total cost of this abomination was $1.50. maybe $1.75. I wish I had my phone with me to illustrate my points, but I left it down Broadway, about a 20 minute walk away. If I were a more confrontational person I would have gone back and demanded a refund, but that's not my style.
