Updating my review as Philadelphia Runner in general is my favorite running store and this location, no offense to CC or UC, is my favorite. Yes, I live in Manayunk so it gets a home town bump! Philadelphia Runner (PR) in general has everything you need to get into or continue running. People often ask me what type of shoes I run in. I reply, why not go for a fitting at PR and explore your options. After all, what works for me might not for you. The PR team will walk new runners through their options and key considerations while providing whatever support a seasoned runner will need. I love it! I get my "supplies" here as well - gels for long runs and the occasional new shorts or shirts to look as good as I feel. They also host our Thursday night runs - all faces all paces welcome, 6:30PM every Thursday. Net - a few years since my last review, but still top quality from PR Manayunk! read more

We walked into the Manayunk store to "look" at some running shoes. Becky came right over to introduce herself and see if we needed any assistance. After a short introduction we realized we had many things in common with Becky including attending the Goose show that evening. We ended up walking out of PR with two pairs of Hokas. Becky was fantastic helping us with different styles/sizes of Hokas all while being extremely personable. We are from Rochester, NY and to say that she and the staff at PR made us feel like we were long time customers/friends would be an understatement. This was such a positive experience and it helped influenced us to make the purchase. The Hoka rep, Colleen was great as well and provided us with some extra complimentary items. Becky was the nicest person I have ever met. I'm new to running and she was so patient with explaining how shoes were supposed to fit and tips for beginner runners. She analyzed my gait and measured my feet and pulled several shoes for me to try. Prices were about what you would expect for good running shoes. My husband and I came here yesterday because he needed new running shoes. The sales associates were super knowledgeable and did a gait analysis on his feet. They pulled a couple of shoes for him to try to see which ones would be a good fit for him. They were super patient and answered all of our questions when it came to products around their store as well as their experiences with running. My lovely cousin who has taken part in a number of breast cancer walks referred me to Philadelphia Runner. She absolutely loves the excellent care and customer service provided by this establishment. As we entered the store the staff knew who she was. She joked that it's like "Cheers", everybody knows your name Lol. Kristen assisted me by providing recommendations. I told her that I like to take long walks, but often experience knee pain from an old injury. Kristen measured my feet and asked that I walk to see my foot placement and form. She presented me with 3 suggestions: Hoka, New Balance and Brooks. My cousin wears Brooks for her marathons but has Hoka's as well. After trying on all three and even walking on the treadmill I decided on 2 of the 3 recommendations. The sales clerks here really know their stuff! I'm an experienced runner but know next to nothing about shoe "technology" and haven't explored many shoe models. The sales clerk who helped me very clearly explained to me the differences between the shoes he recommended and immediately knew why the upgraded model of my old running shoes was giving me issues. As someone who has trouble making decisions when the options are too similar, I appreciated that he didn't present me with too many shoes and that the ones he presented to me were noticeably different. Also, even though I've seen running shoe stores with a larger variety of brands/models, the shoes that Philly Runner carries seem to be very expansive in terms of feet type, weight, type of running the shoes are intended for, etc. The whole process of trying on and buying the shoes was very efficient, and I didn't spend more time than necessary at the store. I first bought a pair of shoes from Philadelphia Runner's website, but after putting a few miles on them, the shoes began to hurt my feet and I realized it was too narrow. I made an appointment at PR Manayunk to see if an associate could help me find a better fit and I had such positive experience! COVID wise, the store is really clean and takes a bunch of precautions. I also loved how inclusive and welcoming the environment is. What really blew me away was the customer service. I was greeted by Cain who listened intently to the issues I had with the previous pair of shoes I bought and provided his insights. He then guided me through the shoe fit process and brought out a few pairs for me to try on. The shoes he recommended immediately felt way more comfortable and I ended up picking a pair of Brooks. When Cain processed the exchange, he even discounted the shoe and said I didn't have to pay the difference. Thank you Cain and Philadelphia Runner! You have one very satisfied customer! They have an option to make an appointment online to try on and get recommendations for shoes. I did this and brought my old shoes in. The person who helped me was super friendly and very knowledgeable about all of the shoes they carried. She watched me walk and grabbed a few pairs to try on. I was surprised she said my old shoes (purchased with recommendation from someone at asics) had more stability than I needed at first but gave it a shot. Not sure why I haven't made the trek here sooner. As an avid runner you would think I would've but I always decided to drive to KOP to Road Runner Sports instead. But since they weren't helpful last time I decided to drive out to Manayunk! So glad I did and will definitely use this as my running store! I needed new shoes so badly. The New shoes I had originally bought elsewhere were causing pain and I wanted to be fitted. The staff were friendly and took their time with me. They watched me walk and determined what kind of shoes would be best. I tried on a few pairs and was able to use their treadmill to see how they felt. Went in and the two salesmen were extremely thorough in helping me find options for my ankle issue. The staff takes the time to understand how often you run and everything involved. Additionally they will watch you walk or even put you on the treadmill in order to help make a proper suggestion. I ultimately went with a pair of Brooks. They are the best running shoes I've ever had. Additionally I've gone on to beat my prior times and continue to meet new accomplishments. The people at the Philadelphia Runner store seem like a friendly group of experts. (I also find this store the friendliest of the three in the Philadelphia area.) Because they are so knowledgable I do think it can be intimidating if you are a beginner runner like myself. However, I have shopped at the Philadelphia Runner store a few years back and have gotten use to the vibe at the store by this point. They have a great selection of shoes. I really like how the staff seem to know something about every shoe in the store. I also noticed that the running sneakers have become a little less ugly over time. (Even though the pair that was best for me was still kind of ugly.) It probably took me an hour to find the right shoe and the staff did not make me feel rushed to make a decision. It was also nice that multiple staff members were able to help make the decision process a little easier given that I am a little indecisive. Needless to say, I left with a great pair of shoes and socks. They even have a nice selection of running gear but apparently their size small in women's sells out fast, so if you see something you like it's worth getting right away instead of sleeping on it. read more

I should start with...I'm a new runner and not a fast one. I have been struggling with the right shoe and realized I had no choice but to get fitted. The reviews for Philadelphia Runner were favorable so I reached out through the site about if I need an appointment or not. Neil responded promptly to my email and was very helpful. I went in today and happen to catch Neil in the store. He was so patient with me and listened to my experience and my needs. He gave me excellent feedback, measured my feet and video taped my running. All of it ended up with a beautiful pair of Brooks with inserts that I desperately needed. I decided to come back for a bra fitting and will absolutely be buying from this store in the future. Those of us that are new and feel intimidated by the amazing running community, we can sometimes hesitate on going into a place like Philadelphia Runner. That was certainly my experience but I wished I had gone earlier. Not only do I feel inspired to finish my 10k but I feel like I can do it properly with the right tools! Thank you Neil. Having stepped up my running game in both frequency and distance, I knew I needed the right shoes. Preventing injury, or at least attempting to avoid it, was probably my biggest reason for going to a running shop. The $15 coupon they put in their Broad Street Run blog was probably the determining factor for going to Philadelphia Runner. When I arrived to the Manayunk location was I pleasantly greeted by Neil and his associate. The customer service was top notch. Neil took his time to properly fit me, which included watching my gait on a treadmill and really listening to questions/needs. For each shoe I tried, I was able to give it a whirl on the treadmill, with and without insoles. The whole process took at least a half hour, probably based on all of my concerns and wanting to be thorough with my selection. I ultimately decided on the ugliest pair of sneakers that were probably the most expensive shoes I've ever purchased. Approximately 14 miles to date, I'm not doubting my decision and would recommend Philadelphia Runner to anyone. I feel like I'm running on a cloud and my feet have never felt so supported. Neil was also so kind as to recommend a few local races and helped resolve the doubts I had about my training. I've been to other Philadelphia Runner locations for group runs and follow them on social media; they are very active in the Philly running community. In preparation for this year's Broad Street Run, I was recommended to PR by a friend. I'm an amateur running who'd been having pain on my iliac crest and my friend recommended "real shoes". I called PR and happened to speak to Neil who'd told me to come in for a fitting. Long story short, he's very attentive and knowledgeable. Addressed my concerns, made suggestions, had me run on the treadmill while video tapping my form which had issues. After trying on three great suggestions, I chose the Saucony Everun ISO2. I'm not so certain how I feel about Philadelphia Runner. The shoe prices are quite expensive. It's disheartening to go into a store and see shoes starting at $100. I also don't find the selection of shoes to be extensive enough. I understand that some stores have a brand that they prefer. I was extremely disappointed to see 3 pairs of Asics that all costed $120 and over. I'm not a stranger to spending money on a decent pair of running shoes. But I feel like when you go into that store they are saying: you must spend $120 bucks or more. I have mixed reviews about Customer Service. There have been days where I've walked into the Center City store all the way around and no one said a word. I have found myself to have better customer service from the Manayunk store. read more

I had the most positive experience from the second I walked into Philadelphia Runner! I was greeted by smiles and received top notch guidance in selecting the running shoes that were perfect for me. Jessica, worked with me one in one, did a gait analysis and then geared me toward which shoes would work best for my pronation and low arches. I really appreciated how she showed me the slow motion video she'd captured of my gait while I was running so I could see first hand what was likely the cause of my ankle pain while running. I was so excited to take my new shoes for a run as soon as I got home! I can't tell you what a difference I felt already with the extra stability I'd been lacking before. These guys are the best!! I was referred to this store by a friend of mine who raved about the customer service she got. From the start, I was helped (by Justin) to figure out what was best for me working with me and not just trying to make a sale. I've recently started training for a half marathon, and the shoes I've been running with are meant more for trail running. In addition, I have smaller feet so its hard to find shoes that fit me right. Justin knew that they probably wouldn't have a shoe in my size but continued to assess my gait so I could know what shoe to look for later down the line. He also had me try on some inserts just incase I wanted to go with more of a temporary fix. They did have a shoe in my size that worked for me but it was a little over the higher end of my budget that I set for myself walking in. We went through a couple of the other styles that were more within the range of my budget but did not compromise the comfort of shoe I needed. Unfortunately the Manayunk store did not have the size of the shoe that was cheaper. Justin called some stores around to see if they carried the size but inevitably he was able to settle a deal and lower the price of the shoe I wanted (the higher end shoe) to fit the budget I was working with. Since it was a smaller size and probably hard to sell it turned out to be a win win for both of us! Overall I was very pleased with the service I received from this store. Awesome customer service! The people here are so helpful, and they spend time with you to help you find the right shoe. You can even test shoes out on the treadmill. It's so much more of a personal experience here than at any of the big chains. Kelsey, who was great, even reviewed my gait and explained why I needed a certain shoe type. This location doesn't have quite the selection that the CC store does, but they are more than willing to get you what you need. If you're looking for individualized guidance in choosing running shoes, apparel or accessories this is the place that I'd recommend in the Philly area. Although I've always run in the same shoes, I thought I'd go through the whole experience and see what other new models might work for me. Justin watched me walk, stand, and balance analyzing my feet. He was spot on with how I ran and some of the chronic problems that I have dealt with. He brought out a huge stack of shoes for me to try, patiently walking me through each shoe and the features that might be helpful for me. I walked and jogged around the store in each shoe getting a feel for the fit. I appreciated the time and care they took to help me find the best shoe for me. So I am running the Broad St Run this year and I have been researching the correct running sneakers for first time (long distance) runners as well as for runner with low arches. My girlfriend decided to go to Philadelphia Runner in Roxborough/Manayunk after work. I went to pick her up and after the hassle of finding parking I said,I might as well get fitted too. I was going to go for the Nike Odyssey because they are stable support sneakers for runners with low arches. I walk in and there's a white gentleman who comes in 2 seconds before me and I go unacknowledged. So two minutes go by, I make contact with Justin (I know his name because he is the one who helped my girlfriend) and he looks away and tends to his customer. I look at the store manager or the number two in charge, he is avoiding eye contact with me as if I will disappear if he doesn't catch my eye. So ten minutes go by, still no greeting, "how can I help you?" or "I will be with you in one sec" nothing. So then I say to myself, "oh maybe if I start picking up the sneakers on the wall, they will at least ask if I need help" NOTHING. So 15 minutes go by and I am searching Nike.com to see if they still have the Odyssey because apparently I don't fit the "typical runner look" I couldn't be here to actually buy something. So long story short I left because they obviously didnt want my money. I definitely wont be back and I will go to a different store tomorrow. #MrProTip read more

I'll preface this with I bought shoes here about a year ago, and brought my nieces there a few weeks ago who both bought shoes, and both times they have been helpful, knowledgeable and pleasant. But today, we walked in as window shoppers. My daughter (6yrs) had been asking everyday when we walked past, can we go look in there? They do not have kids items, and there was nothing in particular she wanted to look at so I would say no. But today I gave in, and when we walked in I told them "she always asks to come in here and look, so..." The two associates welcomed us with open arms, and smiling faces. As my daughter looked around the one guy saw her asking me about the foam rollers and asked if she wanted to try them out. He not only explained what they were for in animated and funny ways, he demonstrated each one she pulled out of the basket for her, and let her try them. He was just really cool and made us feel so welcome even though we were clearly not buying anything. That kind of customer service is hard to come by these days. These guys are a class act and I will be happy to support the local business again next time I need running shoes (or apparel). Thanks for being so sweet to my baby girl. I was looking to get back into distance running again and was looking for a pair of sneakers. I heard great things about the Philadelphia Runner in Manayunk so I decided to go. I walked in and within minutes I met Neil and Justin. Neil asked what I was looking for, gave me great advice and picked out 5 different pairs of shoes that would fit my needs. I tried on all of them and even ran on the treadmill. He videotaped my footing on the treadmill, reviewed it and explained it all to me. It was great! Neil spent probably close to an hour with me before I finally made up my mind. It's amazing what a difference it makes when you get great, professional advice. I sent my parents to this store for their first running shoe. They live in the city and the store I frequent for running gear is not close to their house. They are not runners but more fast walkers. They shared this information with the sales associate. I'm thinking this is the reason why they may have not have been given a good quality service experience, since they were not considered "runners." They were so disappointed! I recommended this store since I've had good experiences at the Sansom Street store in the past. I was shocked to hear that the woman who worked with my mom never touched or measured her foot- you could go to Dick's Sporting store and get that level of service. She never inquired if my mom has had any injuries, etc... My mother told the saleswoman that she heard of Brooks shoes and the saleswoman said "well these are the Brooks here" and my mother told the woman her shoe size. I can't believe that no measurements were taken at all! The saleswoman (my mother said was very nice) put 3 boxes in front of her and my mother fitted her own foot with each shoe! I know from my experience at my running store, my shoe size is not technically the same size as my running shoe size. My parents said a man came in and another sales associate came from the back and fitted his foot, measured his foot, had him walk/run to see his gait. The worker was even snapping pictures of this customer's foot. However, my parents were not given the same level of service. My dad told the sales associate that he believes his foot is wide. Without ever fitting/ measuring his foot, she told my father that they have no wide shoes in the store and he would have to go to one of the other store locations. My dad opted to never go back to the Philly Runner - Manayunk store again nor go to the other store locations! My mom did buy a pair of shoes (Brooks of course!) and some socks. I hope these shoes are the right fit for her! From now on, I will take my parents to my running store- North Wales Running in North Wales, Pennsylvania.
