The clothing and shoe selection was weak and nowhere near worth the trip. If this store tried to operate in the Bay Area, it wouldn't last long. Decent selection. Staff is hit or miss. Walked in and saw staff sitting down and no asks if help was needed. Pro Tip: made 7 or 8 purchases in-store and the women are always more helpful. I was in town walking around and noticed the window display of Lapstone & Hammer and dropped in since I'm a sneakerhead. Store was not busy but staff was attentive and asked if I needed help. Cashier said hi and bye. As for the products, I was confused by the mix of inventory they carried was sneakers (including high end retro Jordan's and Nike foams), Nike tech clothing, high end men's grooming products and leather jackets (which I have no interest in). I looked around and did not buy anything. Product pricing seemed like it was retail with no real discounts/sale products seen. Target seems to be the high end sophisticated male but I'm not sure how leather jackets and sneakers mix. The store was nicely layed out and had a attracting smell of leather. Soo it's a little after 12pm on Monday, May 1st... i have been watching the staff feverishly ready the store for opening.. a small crowd of roughly 6 people have assembled outside. Two staff people walkout, one leaves the other fires up a cigarette, it's 12:05. One of the customers asking, "What time are you opening." The reply, "we open when we open, i don't know." My partner was too excited to shop here, we were only in town for 24 hours. By the end of our late lunch he realized the store closed an hour earlier than comparable stores in the area (they close at 5:00pm on Sunday). I gave the store a call, introduced myself and spoke to Jay (sales associate). I explained we were running against the clock to get to the store before it closed. He said no problem and even asked me what he (my partner) was looking to purchase (as if he were going to pull a few items). We arrived at 5:00pm, I told my partner to jump out and I would park the car. He came back several seconds later saying that they wouldn't let him in and that they were closed for the evening. He was so disappointed so I immediately called the store to speak to Jay who was so friendly, nine minutes ago. Once he got on the phone and Jay told me that Sam (Assistant Store Manager) closed the register and wouldn't let anyone in the store. He was very kind and apologized. Here's the problem. I wouldn't have driven over if there was no chance of purchasing clothes. Having worked in retail I know it takes at least 10 minutes to properly close a register. So either Jay and Sam need to communicate, or Sam shouldn't close the register before the store officially closes. Or better yet... Sam needs better discernment and customer service. read more

The decoration is excellent, makes me feel like staying in some fiction movie scenes. But what makes the experience even better is they offer great customer service than any other sneaker stores in Philly. It's clear that this store wants to build some culture and atmosphere there, rather than just using some limited sneaker release to create some stunts. It's not a store I would shop for myself since it's a men's store BUT I stopped in looking for an item for my brother and they were so nice. As soon as I walked in I probably looked like a loss dog but they were right there to help. I asked if they had some brand with a heart. That's all I knew of the brand that I was on the hunt for. A heart. The sales guy didn't talk down to me or anything even with all my dumb questions. He was there to help and suggest. He even tried on the clothes for me because I couldn't tell how items would fit. I would definitely go back and continue doing business there when looking for gift for guys since I felt so comfortable. read more

I'm very impressed with Lapstone & Hammer on Chestnut St. This store has one of the best selection of Nike's and cool trend shoes for dudes and girls. I'd buy out the store but my size is a 13-14 so it's tough to find shoes :( Fingers crossed they'll carry my size soon?! I initially thought this place was a godsend but turns out I was wrong. The people who work there seem very nice but that's really it. First, they didn't tell me they didn't have the items I wanted in stock and I already placed the order. They sent my things out on express shipping to fulfill their promise, I give them kudos for that but when I received my order... yikes. The shoes were definitely not brand new or were defects they got for cheap, they literally looked like someone stomped allover them. There were material issues allover the knitted one, there was dry glue on the tips of one and the other looked like it had been squished by something very heavy, it literally bent the material of the shoe to make it look like they were aged 10 years. I knew they were on sale but it wasn't by any means cheap, I didn't know that I was going to get items of such terrible quality. If I had the time, I would have tried to return them but I was busy with work travels. I just wanted to others to know so they didn't make the same mistake as I did. read more

For limited sneaker releases, they hold the most legit and fair raffle drawings both online and in-store, giving the community a better chance of winning if you're a local. the staff is always pleasant and doesn't hound you to make a purchase. its neat and organized with an amazing store front that tends to change pending on the artist or collection. The store has a real nice selection of items however the service was terrible. We entered 15 minutes before closing, it was obvious we would be looking to purchase somethings as we tried on hats and jackets. We looked at the shoes and asked for some sizes however the staff where reluctant and unmotivated to help. They proceeded to turn of the lights in the back section of the store despite us looking around. We asked for sizes and they would bring them up but not ask if we needed another size when the shoes didn't fit. Also a hat I was interested in had small marks on and we did ask for another but it came back as the last one but we were slightly disappointed to not get some compensation for having a slightly damaged hat. We proceeded to give up looking around as it was getting difficult as one staff even began to shout for food. So we went to purchase the hat but the tag machine didn't work and was not there fault. They held the hat until we came back the next day before we left philly but the problem wasn't fixed and proceeded to again to be not very proactive with the situation. It is a shame as the owner has a good eye for products but unfortunately due to staff (that seemed to look down on us as we were not the conventional type of buyers) we did not purchase anything but we would of been willing with helpful staff to make a big purchase. It's a shame I think the owner should focus on the quality of customer service not the appearance of the staff. Wanted to love this store read more
