I am very disappointed with my experience at this Franklin store. I purchased a gold ring, and within four days, nearly all of the finish had worn off. For the price and the way the item was represented, that is unacceptable. What has been even more frustrating is trying to get help. I have called five times and have repeatedly been told someone would call me back, but no one has followed through. First, they said the owner was out of the country, and the last 4 calls they promised a callback after speaking to the owner and manager. Still haven't heard back from them. The store presents itself as a Christian business and has a prayer room inside, which makes the lack of accountability and customer care especially disappointing. I expected the product to be better quality and, at the very least, for someone to follow up and make it right. I hope the store resolves this promptly and begins treating customer concerns with the integrity its branding suggests. read more

I love wandering in this store every time I am in downtown Franklin. It is so inviting, has great unique home decor, clothing, accessories & books. The staff is refreshingly friendly and never rushes me or hovers over me. Just the way I like to shop! I think this is especially important to mention because a lot of their merchandise is religious based so it is a unique experience that needs to be savored. Today, I purchased some Christmas Home Decor that I will treasure for years! I also stopped in their treasured Prayer Room. It is a little area in the center of the room where you can write down prayers on a tag and hang it on the wall. Others are encouraged to take a tag and become a Prayer Warrior for the person who left the prayer. Today, was a very impactful visit for me. I went into Philanthropy with a heavy heart because we found out our good friend that has been battling cancer was moved to hospice. The prayer room gave me peace & I left feeling a little lighter. Good Lord! I couldn't find enough words to express the awe I felt when walking through this space. Every. Single. Detail. Perfect. I spoke with several of their employees and each one made me feel right at home and I never felt hovered over or ignored. Just the right amount of attention is right for me. Not only did I LOVE the style of fashion this place exudes but the fixtures, displays, lighting, again it was every detail so well thought out. The price of clothing was very reasonable I thought! Beautiful music pumped out of the speakers. Loved it. My favorite part was the mini church they built right in the middle of the store. And they made it look like it could've been a hundred plus years old. And when I walked in....wow....it was setup as a prayer room where you could leave your prayer requests!!! I feel that if a store's policy is " No Refunds" on every purchase it should be clearly displayed. We are not talking about sale or secondhand items, BUT every item in the store. The items in the store are beautiful and beautifully priced, so once they have your money the only recourse you have is store credit. I bought a pair of boots that I tried on in the store but wearing them down the hall, realized they were too tight. Since I live out-of-state my dilemma was hopefully getting the next size up. The staff was less than welcoming and I was left taking the next size up or lose almost 200.00 dollars. They do tell you the store will never void your store credit, but what good is that when you live 5 hours away? read more

Philanthropy Fashion is more than just a clothing boutique, they are a clothing boutique that donates a portion of every sale to a particular cause. Based on which item in the store you purchase will determine which charity the proceeds go to. They carry a lot of t-shirt designs that benefit the Hands and Feet Project for example. The store is very cute and cool. I love the idea of mixing fashion with a cause. There should be some good reason for something to have a high price tag. Some of the other shops in Franklin should think about following suit. read more

I agree that I did find this store a little preachy and the Contemporary Christian music really did distract from my shopping experience, but the store is beautiful, and I think it's great that this store is trying to be more socially conscious. I found a couple of things I really wanted to buy. They are the only place I've seen with Hobo brand clutch purses, including some on sale. They also had plenty of soft, cute tee-shirts and some unusual dresses. What I would like to see is more information about how they contribute to charity and exactly why and where. I'm a healthcare provider (RN) and this is a slap in the face to healthcare workers who are working tirelessly to save lives. This is also a terrible way to promote the spreading of the virus. I have never been made to feel so uncomfortable in a retail store before. I've worked retail and I understand that employees greeting guests and periodically checking in is not only good manners, but a good business practice for mitigating shrink/loss. But this store took guest "oversight" to a degree that was downright hostile. I came in one weekend day with three of my girl friends and after the initial greeting, we were then followed around the store by a second employee watching our every move (and not subtly). We were the only guests in the store that I noticed, so having an employee follow us into every room and corner was very noticeable. Not only that, he stared us down and hovered less than 10 feet from us at all times. Never a smile, just staring at us. I'm not sure if the "look" of us was somehow offensive to them, but I felt profiled and harrassed. My whole group was so uncomfortable that we left quickly after making a circle around the store and realizing what was happening. For this store being all about Christianity, I wouldn't say they act very Christian at all. read more

The store looks pretty, but operates ugly. They overcharge for everything. I stupidly bought a vase for $25 from them, only to go down the street to find the same exact item for $15. For a Christian organization, they should not be price gouging like this and overvaluing the goods they have there. To make matters worse, I saw that same vase in yet another city, a totally different store, and it was also $15. To date, I have seen that same face in a total of four different stores all valued at $15. Why philanthropy gets off on charging $25 is beyond me. To add insult upon injury, they don't allow returns- only a store credit. Talk about shady. Avoid this place like the plague because they are clearly not operating by Christian principles or values; rather, they are fueling their corporation with dishonesty and inflation. I needed something special to wear to an upcoming dinner event. I spent six hours at the mall and just couldn't find anything that fit the occasion. I had given up. I pass by this store every day on the way to work. They always have the cutest outfits in the window. So I decided to check it out on my lunch hour when they were open. Kimberly and Hailey were working that day and I explained that it was very difficult for me to find something appropriate for a special occasion. I'm a network engineer so we don't really dress up at work and I'm also a bit of a tomboy so I struggle with the girly stuff. I shared that I don't love dresses but not opposed to them but can't walk in heels. Kimberly picked out several nice dresses and shirts for me to try. Hailey assisted me by giving me feedback on every outfit after I tried them on. I walked out of there with a beautiful dress with leggings that would go with my tall brown boots. Great look and comfortable. This will be my go to place for new clothes. These ladies were wonderful and friendly. The service doesn't get any better than this. Instead of me wasting my time looking through every rack at the mall I can just come here and they will pick out clothes to for me to fit my needs. Then all I have to do is pick one or sometimes two of the choices and checkout. I made a return visit to get another shirt that I had tried on earlier. I just couldn't resist. read more

Nope, I don't drink the cool-aide this store is serving. I think it is great that they are planning to help people in Sudan, and other places that need aide, but the amount of preachy merchandise and jesus music in the store seemed more suited for a church gift store (do they have those?) than a store on Main Street. Carrying brands like Prophetic, Yield and Jedidiah, I found nothing of use or substance. I'll just keep giving money to Oxfam and loaning money on Kiva, and feeling good about that. read more

She was too busy arranging the very important flowers in front of her instead of speaking to the customer in front of her. She was white with a brown messy bun. Philanthropy donates 10 percent of ALL sales to various charities and causes, both local and global. It's that simple. Yes, the store is owned and run by Christians. I personally find it refreshing to go in to a store that has a purpose, and I feel like most of the negative reviews on this site are from people who have mis-understood the concept of Philanthropy. You can check out their website for more information about what they do, and what causes they support. The store is beautiful- I feel inspired every time I go in. The owners build most of the displays themselves, and the store has recently gone through an update. The clothes are cute and affordable- but you have to go in weekly to catch them. They sell through products very quickly and do not restock many of their clothing styles. I really don't get a "church bookstore" vibe from the store... in fact, I wish church bookstores could combine Christianity and style so well! They've expanded their Men's section and now offer Alternative Apparel shirts for guys (which my boyfriend loves!). The store also carries several jewelry lines from local artists, and a line of shirts they design themselves for charity. Before you make up your mind about Philanthropy, please have a look for yourself. Talk to the people working there and get to know them and why they are working there. You won't be disappointed! I happen to love this store. And to be honest, I'm a little annoyed at most of the other reviews. Since when did giving to people in need become a bad thing? Either way, this store has a very cool, urban vibe with a variety of different items inside. They have great coffee table/bathroom books, jewelry, hats and clothes. I actually got a really cool t-shirt there to help save the Franklin Theater. Yes there are some Christian references in the store, but it certainly is not over-bearing. I love the concept. i love this place. the cause, the vision, the unique pieces. each item in here, the purchase of it goes to enable, equip, and better the life of a person in need, either close by or far away in lands lacking the prosperity we have here. i purchases a pair of sseko sandals that are made by women in uganda. with the money, 1/2 goes into a college/education fund and 1/2 goes directly back to them to provide for living expenses (food, health needs, etc.). there's so many incredible stories in this store, so much hope, so much love. the girls working here are truly impassioned as well. they tell you about each piece, the story of it, what the money goes to. one thing i really admire too, is they are not ashamed of their faith. they aren't afraid to say "God, the Spirit,..." they share the amazing ways God is using these items to enable all of us to live out the gospel by helping those in needs, serving the widows and orphans, loving our neighbor (close or far away). i mean, after all, none of us deserve to have cute items and clothing more than a mother deserves to feed her children; so why not buy cute items that enables women to feed their children, and empowers the young to access education they would not be able to otherwise. :) read more

I was here on vacation for the weekend and came across this boutique while driving through town. The style of clothing was so eclectic, I personally loved the vintage look of some of their pieces. The music was so pleasant, and I am a little puzzled by the complaints made about it (playing a CD from Colton Dixon). Maybe a little Metallica is what the previous reviewers were looking for ;) Either way, I found some really great pieces to add to my clothing collection and I will be shopping with them again as soon as the site is up and running.... My husband and I were shopping there today and the employees of this store were telling customers that they were moving to a bigger space in the spring and the existing store in that space would be closing. We went down to the other store and told the employees at the store that we hated to hear they were closing and these employees knew nothing about it! My husband and I could not believe that a store based on such a spiritual premise would actually do this to another small business on the same block! I cannot shop at a store that has this much disregard for another small business owner. Why are they telling they are moving now when it is months away? Why would they tell the store is closing? I just can't drink the cool-aide Philanthropy is selling anymore. All they talk about is how much they donate to charities. I mentioned this to another store on the street and they confirmed that Philanthropy has been telling all the other shop owners this same thing. read more

Not an inexpensive store. Damaged products sold on their sales floor. Terrible customer service after informing them of this. They have a no refund policy... but when you walk out, see the damage and walk back in and they deny you a refund or exchange for the same item with tags and receipt for a full-priced item?? Shame on you, Philanthropy. You should start caring about your PAYING customers before basically stealing money for your charities. Well I just moved into town from Southern California (Newport Beach) and actually thought they carried several pieces that resembled my personal style. However, in a last minute attempt to find an outfit for Steeplechase I selected a skirt and top, both sizes not exactly right but I was eager to have something in time for the event. I brought it home, cut the tags and modeled it for my girl friend who didn't think it was Steeplechase appropriate (I had no idea what to expect having just moved from the Ocean). So I went with something else in my closet that was more simple. I attempted to return the $115 dollar outfit 2 days later and was shocked by the terrible customer service from the Store Manager (short haired brunette about a size 10). I was aware the tags were unattached but the clothing was merely tried on as if anyone else in the store probably already had. She wouldn't make an exception and all I was simply requesting was store credit. I explained that this is not a typical outfit and was purchased for a special occasion and unworn, I couldn't have been nicer. Her counter response was we "sometimes make exceptions, but not after Event weekends or if they are the last pieces left from a size run." Are you kidding me?!?! Having an extensive Retail background at High- End boutiques myself, I was flabbergasted by the way she handled it. I even had pictures to prove I didn't wear the outfit and what kind of response is that anyway? You obviously do have a flexible store policy but on your bizarre conditions??? Too bad for them that I will never shop there again and being a new Franklin Housewife who loves to shop...I'll keep my business to Emmaline & Posh. It's very customary in Retail to allow a first time exception if the garments are in perfect condition. The young, pretty blonde sales girl who helped me was exceptionally sweet and it really bummed me out that it was handled in this manner. Our family was in Nashville on a college visit this weekend with another family. We are from St. Louis. We went to Franklin and absolutely loved the charming town. Luckily, we walked into Philanthropy. We adored the store!! Fun and unique clothing, extremely friendly and helpful staff. The girls working in the store really helped, and to be honest, absolutely MADE our shopping experience. It was like having a personal shopping assistant. They have a wonderful sense of style and really help you put things together. They were fantastic! As for the Christian aspect, shame on all of you that have criticized that. If you didn't like it, then walk out. It was not overbearing. It was appropriate for the store and the cause they work toward: giving to those in need. I was hoping to be able to shop for clothing on line....sad that I can't do that. Only clothes on the website are the t-shirts. That is my one and only complaint.
