We travelled on Philippine Airlines from LAX to Manila, Philippines for our family get together and vacation. Then we also travelled from Philippines to Japan for our family and friends vacation. As well as our Manila to Boracay trip. We haven't used Philippine Airlines for 8 years as we've been booking with other airlines for our previous flights to Philippines. We decided to try Philippine Airlines since they are the only airline that flies direct. Also because they were highly recommended to us by family and friends for the best customer care. We experienced excellent customer care for all our travels both international and domestic. Great experience for us from checking in at the counter to the flight attendants on board and all the way to the captain navigating the plane for take off and smooth landing. Philippine Airlines staff at check in as well as flight attendants onboard provided our child with specialized meals due to our child's peanut and tree nut allergies. They were accommodating. They catered to families with food allergies. The flight attendants were consistent with delivering our child's peanut free and nut free meals half hour before serving everyone's meals to avoid cross contamination. We flew Philippine Airlines roundtrip fr MNL to Boracay. Positives: Nice staff; Good leg and hip room in Comfort Class; Checked bag came out quickly; Negatives: The staff on the return flight were all playing on their cellphones at the gate; PAL lived up to its nickname of "Plane Always Late" on the return flight. The gate also changed; The plane on the return flight was a "twin propper". I paid for an upgraded seat, that wasn't upgraded. The flight times both ways changed a few times. I lost track of the departing time each way; The outbound flight changed gates last min. We had to walk down a long corridor, hop on a bus, and climb up a steep incline staircase to get on the plane: Not ideal. I am unfamiliar w/ the local carriers like Cebu Pacific. However, I heard that the local carriers do a good job. Perhaps I will try one of the local carriers next time for local flights. read more

My husband and I flew Philippine Airlines (PAL) to get to Coron from NAIA terminal 2. The process from start to finish was quick and easy. We arrived to our gate early (90 minutes) both ways and did not encounter any serious issues such as flight cancellation/delays. In fact, on the way back, we returned to our gate a half hour early which was nice. PAL staff are friendly and kind. If you get a cookie snack, get two if possible! Their cookie snacks are super delicious! Their airline fleet is a little dated and the seats are slightly cramped for American standards but for short flights it's tolerable. My only gripe with the airline is that the cabin needs to be cooler both in the air and when grounded because the entire flight (there and back), we were sweating. Worst experience ever! We've traveled all over the world on different airlines and this by a wide margin has been the worst. We booked our flight through Hawaiian/Alaska connection through Japan via Japan airlines to Manila and PAL back to Japan. Upon checking in at NAIA the ladies told us we had to pay for our check in luggages $120 each even though we didn't pay anything at all as we were allowed 2 free checked bags each coming to Philippines. But because PAL wants to nickel and dime everyone to death they wanted to charge us so we paid for 4 bags and carried on 2. About a month prior to this we flew from Hawaii to Italy and back booked through KLM and no bags were charged even though WE DID NOT ACTUALLY FLY ON A KLM PLANE! Instead we flew delta, Air France and virgin Atlantic. They all honored the 2 free checked bags when traveling internationally. That wasn't the only time we've flown to Europe a few times as well as Asia and of course all over North America and never experienced this. We will never ever fly with PAL ever again and we will tell our friends and family not to either.to make things worse we had a senior traveling with us who had to stand over an hour at counter before we finished checked in! We could afford to pay $480 for 4 bags but what about people who can't afford it? The fact that they're the only airlines that do this says a lot about them. Me and my other half has been flying on PAL ever since we started taking vacations to The Philippines. Not only they are the only non-stop airline that has service to and from Honolulu & Manila, but they can get you to other destinations across Asia. Booking online is easy. Online check-in was good too. You have the ability to bid for Premium Economy or Business Class using an online auction system. I took the liberty to bid for Premium Economy rather than Business Class as bidding is a bit high at the moment. For some reason, the website wasn't allowing me to bid for upgrade on our first segment of travel HNL-MNL. Our boarding passes were then emailed, or you will get a printed ticket at the check-in counter. Arriving at least 3 hours prior to departure is key. Security is done multiple times prior to boarding the plane, come early and be patient. I must say, all the ground staff from check-in to boarding were exceptional, efficient and friendly! Service onboard was fantastic. For a long-haul flight, you basically want to sleep as much as possible after having your first meal onboard. Free entertainment via seatback monitors. Being seated in Premium Economy from BKK-MNL was an advantage. You have priority boarding with Business Class, your luggage allowance is more than basic economy, your seats are wider and softer. You're also served a welcome drink during boarding. Very similar to Business class seats on a domestic flight. With 21 seats in premium economy, you get the same individualized attention as a First Class passenger would receive. For a long haul flight MNL-HNL, I'm satisfied. We travelled from NAIA Manila to Panglao airport in Bohol. The flight encountered a lot of turbulence but the pilot handled it well. The flight attendants were nice and respectful with Filipino hospitality. Check-in was easy. We were allowed 22lbs for checked in baggage and 15lbs carry-on plus personal item. read more

Just be aware if you travel back to the US from Manila you will leave at gate 14. At the gate they will block you out and take you through security again so you won't be able to water on the 12/13 hour flight back to the states. read more

We had previous unfavorable incident with PAL 2 years ago which was never resolved! We tried to give PAL another go this year but guess that was a major foolish decision on our part. Slap on our face like telling us "you never learned your lesson." My husband's flight to seattle was supposed to be yesterday at 10:35pm. He was at the airport more than 3hrs before the flight for check-in. When he arrived at the counter, he was told to wait. He waited until 10:35pm!!! Meaning he missed his flight. Why? Because according to their very "considerate and accommodating" (am being sarcastic) manager Mr. DJ ESTACIO, that it is their right to bump out passengers during peak season coz the LAW allowed PAL to book more than 10% of its capacity. Tbh, I don't get how this is beneficial to passengers. My husband plus few others were the unfortunate ones who got bumped out without their consent. And sadly, (unless probably you are a relative of Lucio Tan) there's nothing u can do but rant and vent your frustration and anger. My husband was desperate to get into that flight coz he has work next day that he has no choice but to be absent. To add insult to injury or confusion & frustration, the PAL manager MR DJ ESTACIO was without remorse when talking to them. Insisting that it's the LAW!!! Fine!! Everybody reads long fine prints right & we're the only ones who did not. As if it's the passenger's fault to be bump out of their seats. He was telling my husband he understood his situation blah blah and go back reading the RULES. NO!!!! You did not & will never understand the sentiments of the passengers. You know that the people were agitated already which was a normal reaction at that time, but rather than pacifying you have the nerve to be defensive & unapologetic. You are a manager representing PAL for God's sake. Act like one!!!! On the other hand, the people in PAL office who helped rebooking (coz my husband really had no choice) were genuinely nice, patient, understanding & sympathetic of the situation of the passengers. But then again, i know this review won't matter coz seems like PAL is used to these complaints. But for customers planning to fly PAL, please spare yourself unnecessary heartache, hassle, stress & financial loss. To those who always had pleasant experience with PAL, good for you. Will no longet fly international with this airline. They send out cancel notification for international flights less than 24 hrs (e-mail at 12:40 AM the same day flight?), have to rebooked hotel, connecting flights, etc... no consideration of their passengers! We were a party of 5 seated on window rows 34 (3 passengers) and 35 (2 passengers.) Keep in mind that these seats cost an extra $50/piece just to be ahead a whole section of passengers sitting far behind. I couldn't care less about paying the extra fee. What I do care about, however, is that my headphones weren't working. I also care that my mother's assigned seat didn't have any volume coming out of her outlet. This is a 13-hour flight. One thing that can make time fly faster is watching movies. It blew that my mother and I didn't have this option. For those horrendous fees they are charging (which was only $30/pop 15 months ago, might I add) they better make sure everything is working right. I called a flight attendant to address these issues. She apologizes stating they do not have a mechanic on board to handle the matter. She offered to seat me elsewhere, but her offer is for me to sit in a middle seat (those non-$50 fee ones.) Nope. Just plain horrible. Don't ever take PAL and expect them to meet a posted schedule Just 25 minutes before our first leg in the US, our flight was cancelled due to some "technical" issue. We had to stay in a crap hotel for a flight 12 hours later noted as "replacement " flight. So that flight (due to a medical emergency that happened no later than 2 hours before our flight), was delayed without further updates for more than an hour. You think they would have relayed this "emergency" info to check in, but apparently that's too hard as we did this about one hour (minimum) before the landing flight emergency Then they delay and delay and some 3 hours later to "service" the 777, we're off knowing we won't make our connecting flight to Kalibo. So at least this time we're in a nicer hotel and advised for departure at 0530 for an 0845 flight (WTF???). And you'd think after just arriving shortly before midnight, they might have a reason to get us up so early. Only for us to stand around for another CF for 30 minutes as they sort out the shuttle for a 15 minute trip So now we're almost 2 hours early since our bags were pre transferred. And AGAIN we're faced with some other unknown delay from the flight to arrive from a different locale. And of course, there's lots of announced "sorrys" but no update on time. My wife was stranded in HI for some 3-4 days a few years ago due to a parts issue. Each day they were told to shuttle and go, and each day thereafter they returned back to the hotel. They did get some rather bad news TV PR as they NEVER publicly responded to the issue. The employees try to be helpful as they can, but they're hopelessly trapped in a sh!tty company. Still the best way to go to the Philippines for direct flights and going back home is PAL. They are not perfect by far and prices can be pricey or cheap depending on the time of year you purchase them. Getting seats in the back is tight and crowded but I pay the extra to sit closer to business class and for the leg room. So much nicer! There is a TV to watch movies or tv shows. They also have a USB plug to charge your electrical devices. There are times the USB doesn't work...eh As for service, it's alright. Flights always leaves at night so I can sleep right away. There are times when flights are delayed but it can't be helped if it's the weather or mechanical reasons. I would rather be safe anyway. Food is ok as well. I am writing this review in regards to the Philippine Airlines Business Class. As someone who has flowing only First or Business Class throughout Asia over the past 30+ years, I am basing this review upon those factors. First of all, let's talk about the positive--this is a very easy airlines to communicate with. I needed a flight to Hong Kong at the last minute, I called them up, and instead of trying to navigate via a website, there was no problem in booking a flight over the phone. They had me all set up in just a couple of minutes. As someone who has been flying from the U.S. to Asia over many-many years, I have watched, in recent years, as some of the airlines have discontinued their First Class service; relying on Business Class for the more refined traveler. Philippine Airlines was one of the first to do this. Though I initially questioned this tactic, I truly appreciate the level of excellence that Philippine Airlines has provided their Business Class traveler. Now, let me preface this by saying the Business Class service on many International Carries has vastly improved from times gone past over the past few years. Today, it is most likely you will be in your own pod in Business Class. Meaning, the airline will give you a nice confined space. That's great! I love that! This is not what Philippine Airlines offers, however. Their Business Class is two seats together by the windows and two or three seats together in the center. The seats are large but they are not a pod. But, this is okay if your are traveling with someone like a wife, husband, or friend. Other than that, however, it can get kind of weird having someone you don't know sleeping next to you. Also, on their long haul flights their Business Class is broken up into two cabins. Rows 1 through 4 in the front cabin and rows 5 and 6 in the second cabin. Why they designed their aircraft this way I do not know. But, they did. Though the service is the same and is exceptional in both cabins, my advice is to get a seat in the forward cabin as it just feels nicer. In terms of service, they have nice lounges at all of the airports that I flew through: LAX, Manila, and Hong Kong. Onboard, the staff is excellent. They truly cater to the needs of their passengers. And, they are constantly doing things like cleaning the rest rooms. They have excellent food and a great selection of wine and other beverages for the in-flight traveler. The seats are fully reclining, into horizontal beds, so you can definitely get some sleep between the beginning and the end of your flight if you want to. And, of course, they have tons of first-run movies, TV, and other things to watch and or listen to on their in-flight entertainment. One of the downsides of this style of Business Class is, however, due to the fact that you are sitting next to somebody the screen for their TV is right in front of you. Thus, they may be watching one movie or may have started a movie earlier than you and that you are forced to watch what they're watching out of the corner of your eye. This goes to the greatness of Business Class pod seating compared to Philippine Airlines Business Class. But, you get what you pay for. I flew on four different aircraft on this recent journey. Three of them were very new and very modern aircraft offering all of the amenities that one would hope for in the Business/First Class category. On the flight from Manila to Hong Kong, however, they did put us aboard a seemingly older aircraft with none of the amenities that one would expect in this modern era; i.e. on screen entertainment, USB chargers, and the like. In fact, on that flight, they offered myself and my wife an iPad to view for entertainment. Old school! Though I didn't watch anything on that iPad, nonetheless, the flight, the service, and the food we're all very good. Really, this is a very good, economy minded Business Class service from the States to Asia that I recommend. In a pinch, I may be flying them again. read more

In return flight from MNL: Useless checks where they open bags you want to check in BEFORE checking in at the counter. And their "check" is to gently run their finger on the inside of the suitcase (worse than SM security checks) Fortunately ours were just suitcases but I saw them open people's luggages who were checking in taped and roped off boxes. They broke those boxes open. After going through TSA in the Philippines, they have you do another TSA check at the gate. THE ONLY AIRLINE WITH GATE ROPED OFF AND ITS OWN TSA CHECK in the international gates. The whole she-bang: Complete with the X-ray machine, the body scan, and taking off your shoes. We were stuck for so long since the staff couldn't understand what an air freshener was lol. They also wiped my sister's iPad case with alcohol because they were "checking it" FOR WHAT? And what will you detect with an alcohol wipe? We bought water from the airport and they had us throw it away. Currently listening to a lady complain because they made her throw away her AIRLINE BOUGHT STARBUCKS. We flew same airline from LAX to MNL and they did not have this same ridiculous checks, probably coz LAX wouldn't allow this craziness. Best part of it all, the customer service of the staff. When asked why this is necessary, things were bought at the airport, they were all very rude and condescending saying that "you're going to America, this is how it is" and things like "you don't know what it's like in America" and constantly made fun of other passengers who are also understandably upset. Ma'am/sir: we are from America, the passports should've told you that lol. Food is terrible, the planes are hot and very worn down, and movie/show selection is poor. This airline totally sucks my buddy and I had a flight scheduled for 5am from Manila on Monday 02/09/18. We called the night before to confirm the time and were told that it is 4:50am on 02/09/18. After waking up @ 2am we arrived at the airport just before 4am and they tell us our flight time is 7:55am. I mean like WTF? How do you change times like that I could have slept 3 more hours. Then they tell us they could put us on standby on a 6:30am flight so I asked her how many people were on standby before us. She told me we were 25 & 26 in standby order. Then I asked her how many seats were available. She tells me 39. I'm like say what? If there are 39 seats left why don't you just book us on the 6:30 flight. She then tries to get us to go to Cebu Airlines so I asked her if they had seats on the flight and she tells me she doesn't know yet she wants us to walk halfway across the airport to see if they have any openings. I travel a lot, and I do mean A LOT! I know what to expect when flying, I know what to do, and what usually happens when it comes to flying. I am definitely a big fan of the fastest means of travel in the world. Of course I would've loved to fly one of the jet engine planes, but we're just going to busuanga. So they provided us a turbo prop for our chariot to the islands. We get bussed from the gate to plane side, board from the tarmac, stow our carry on, sit down and buckle my seat belt by inserting the metal tip into the buckle. Moments later, they close the door, they do the safety demo, then we taxi off to the runway. In the air, we get a snack and a glass of water. I'm surprised our snack was actually real food. Pork Asado Bun is a real treat compared to just peanuts or pretzels, specially on a short domestic flight. The crew being able to feed and pick up afterwards on a 40 minute flight is absolutely amazing. I had a great experience flying in and out of busuanga. Yea there are delays and such, but that's mostly because of air traffic congestion, so I don't cry about all that stuff. Besides, it's for everyone's safety. Philippine Airlines is a decent airline; service and food are decent and you get to eat satisfactory airplane Filipino food. International flights have in flight entertainment, but the seats are not that comfortable, and business class type seating is their best seat. They also make it difficult to purchase two seats for one passenger (if you want extra room). Beware going through a travel agent, and if you do, make sure to get insurance. Getting a refund in case of emergency will otherwise be a nightmare, especially with a middle man. What I do like about Philippine Airlines is their non-stop flights to the Philippines and fast pickup time when calling on the phone. Also NAIA offers an excellent $25(US) massage at the airport to help you kill time while waiting to board. read more

AVOID THIS AIRLINE, it has unhappy workers, filthy old outdated planes. PAL has the worst service ever at the Ninoy Airport. Every single female agent I dealt with was beyond rude. Both the counter agent and baggage check agents were such mean ugly b*tc@$. Going there from the US was no issue but my departure was such a nightmare. My luggage weighed 24 kilos only 1 kilo over, she made me repack items into carryone and then weighed carryon. Going through baggage check a second time, they kept my makeup that passed twice before both bottles less than 1 oz. I hope you enjoy using it, as I saw the agent put on the side and not in the receptacle where you put other items. After a second unnecessary check of our baggage at 2.5 hrs prior to departure, this crap airline would not allow us to leave gate for restroom, to eat or get water. #WORSTairline ever. read more

They're inefficient. Like by letting all of the economy board at the same time. Fail. Most other airlines separate boarding groups so that first class and business goes first then they work their way from the back of the airplane to the front so that there's no chaos and waiting times with people in the middle or the front of the plane blocking the way for the people trying to get to the back of the plane. I'm trying to understand their thought process in the order that they serve food but it still hasn't come full circle. They start serving food at 1 row to 1 person. Oh and then they pause and leave to go do something else after serving that 1 person. They even switch up the direction that their food carts move in. Forward toward the front of the plane, backward toward the back of the plane. I've given up trying to wrap my head around their system because there's no set pattern. At least they don't card you for wine. Not that I'm underage, but having to look for my ID would have been a hassle. read more

AVOID PAL BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY! First of all, the food was horrid! My round trip JFK-Auckland with a 18 hour layover in Manila each way and every trip was an annoying experience. I checked in online for return trip and selected my seats. By the time I arrived to the gate, my seats for both legs of the trip were changed. Upon arrival at connection in Manila, the flight to JFK was cancelled and was told that the next flight would be 24 hours later. Waited almost two hours in the airline transfer lounge with some snoring men and cockroaches. The bathrooms, showers, sinks locked off and was told to use toilets outside the lounge where I met one of their staff picking her nose in front of the mirror. The transfer counter was over-staffed with ten employees and it still took over an hour to print new boarding passes and another half hour for a cheap breakfast voucher to be used for only two vendors. Two of the staff were giving each other massages! My tickets were a bargain but the exasperation suffered was worth ten times the savings. read more

Flew primarily in Economy but managed to get a successful 'bid' upgrade to business class on my return flight from Manila to Darwin. Food and flight crew service average and satisfactory. PAL Business Class has seriously deteriorated over the years. The airfare it charges for business class is highway robbery in my opinion. The planes are old (there is always a problem with seats - broken tray table, video not working etc etc). The lounges are a humongous joke - probably the worst in the airline industry today. Sadly the only reason to fly it is that it is the only airline with a direct flight to Manila and sitting in economy for 15 hours is for the bravest of hearts. This is the WORST AIRLINE I have ever flown in my entire life. First of all, after going through security they told us to sit at GATE 1. Then, after sitting there for several hours they changed our gate to GATE 3. That wouldn't be such a problem however we had to go through a second security check AGAIN! Then my elderly and sick parents had to use the restroom. After they used the restroom we all had to FALL IN LINE AGAIN AND GO THROUGH SECURITY A THIRD TIME. Afterwards I went back to the security and I asked to speak to a supervisor and or manager. He ignored me! Then another worker named ROSE said that the manager was in a meeting and that they would not be able to speak with me. I am so disgusted with the lack of customer service at this airline. I will never ever fly this airline again, and will tell all of my friends and family in America to never fly Philippine Airlines. I came here for the Ambassador Tour hosted by the Philippine Department Of Travel and now I am thoroughly convinced that IT IS NOT MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES. Also, my recommendation is that since it's such an inconvenience to use the restroom AFTER you have checked into your gate, just PISS on the floor and let them clean it up. I booked round trip and going to my destination the flight going to MNL is on time as schedule however, my returning flight have been resschedule 2x due to operational requirements. Not expecting for the price I pay and found my returning flight is less passenger with vacant seats. I understand merging returning flight to consolidate all passengers to save up fuel but not satsfied with the service I paid. Rescheduling and sending to notify passengers that flight have been changed less than 72hours is not acceptable. Considering passenger has to contact work, and related transportations. FA/ flight crew on board: less / poor training FA assisting passengers. I noticed one passenger requested water and FA passed by w/ water bottle on her hand responded she has to go on the back side to give water and her replied passengers at the back will get choke. :( I dont know how long to pour water and knowing the person is also passenger. read more

Got on a flight from LAX to Manila. That turned out delayed by an hour and a half. We get to Manila. Everyone's excited. But nopeee. We have to hover around for half an hour because there's nowhere to land. Not to mention the flight attendants were giving people attitudes. I asked for a cup of water, and I get a half hearted glare and a barely filled cup. I hop on a connecting flight. Yet again, delayed. I have family waiting for me. Bound to SF from Manila 10pm @ 7/25. Everything is going smooth. We're going through various security checkpoints. Then they announce at the gate they're boarding people with disabilities, senior citizens and parents with children @ 9:15pm My boarding pass says group E. Not once I hear an intercom announcement what group they're boarding. So we line up. They differ people away saying that they're only boarding group C. We sound off stating to announce it on the intercom. Mind you it's 9:53pm and we still haven't boarded. Prelude to that, SF bound for Manila on 7/12. They had announced random luggage's was left behind and all our 3 checked in luggages was left behind. They're reason was it was overbooked and too many luggage's. I know they're business practices are different at every airport but should have a practical way of doing business, period. Never say never, but for now don't think we'll fly via PAL in the upcoming future. read more

PA has very convenient non-stop flights. Hard to beat that ..and price is OK although about average. However, watch out !! They have a way you can bid for an upgrade. Normal price for upgrade was $650 one way MNL to HNL. I bid $400. 48 hours before the flight they sent me an email that my bid "won" and I was confirmed in business class. But when the bill came, they charged my credit card the full $650 rate. Business class is significantly better, but if they accept a bid, they should stand behind it. I like that concept, but they obviously don't. I feel cheated. Also, a local flight I had booked long ago was suddenly changed from 10am to 4:30 am. They would not re-book. Fortunately, I was able to cancel it and get my money back. As others have noted, they rarely leave or arrive on time. read more

I have only taken Philippine Airlines (PAL) for an international flight once, and that was 15 years ago and now I remember why that is so. one word that doesn't even begin to describe my experience with PAL in the Philippines is "TERRIBLE". the only reason why I chose this is due to a family emergency that required a direct flight to the Philippines ASAP. Slow Service: Arrived 5 hours prior to my flight back to California to ensure that we get through security in time. There were 8 people ahead of us in the online check in bag drop lane. It took about 35 minutes until it was our turn. Even the agents posted in the business class and economy booths were moving as slow as molasses. Unfriendliness: this is disappointing because Filipinos are known to be friendly & hospitable individuals. The PAL staff working in NAIA look so miserable, bitter & unhappy. there seems to be a lack of training to be customer-centered. Ridiculous Policy: there is a 2nd x-ray after you go through security & immigration in NAIA Terminal 2 and if you end up buying water, by your gate, you won't be able to take it with you to the plane. I bought 3 Evian bottles from Duty Free and paid in dollars and the 2nd X-ray security personnel said I couldn't bring it unless they're in a ziploc. When I said I have ziplocks, he said Duty Free must seal it. So I had to get out of the long line and go back to Duty Free so they could put it in a sealable plastic that I couldn't open until I board the plane. It also seems like this policy is only applicable for flights headed to LAX. the tedious, over-scrutinizing process is so unnecessary. no other reputable and well-reviewed airlines do this, so I do not understand the rationale for this. I also requested for an exit window seat but ended up opting out as I didn't want to pay $80 for it. What is bothersome however is getting in to the plane and seeing elderly people sitting on these rows. They were also the last ones to de-plane as they needed wheelchair assistance. Isn't it standard airline policy everywhere that anyone sitting on exit row aisles be able to assist others in the event that the aircraft needs to perform an emergency landing and what not?! Terminal Mess: Terminal 2 is exclusively for PAL. The set up of this terminal is so disorganized: half of the place is occupied by Duty Free & name brand stores (i.e. Chanel, Estēe Lauder, Lancôme, Dior, etc) & they only have a handful of café kiosks. There are barely any chairs to accommodate all passengers waiting for their flights to board. There aren't any trash bins around as they have designated people to clean up but they too are moving so slow and people are leaving their trash on the tables, thus not allowing others to have a clean space to eat in. Areas are separated by plywood looking dividers. It looks like there's an unfinished construction inside the terminal but I think this is how it normally looks. Why do other terminals look better than this? This terminal should be a representation of the Philippines (which has a lot of beautiful infrastructures) but its almost like the Terminal has no desire to have people come back because of its hideous set up. Flight Dissatisfaction: my flight from LAX to Manila was through Boeing 777-300. while there are more leg rooms between seats, this must have been the worst flight to the Philippines that I have ever taken. I had to ask several flight attendants 4 times that our cabin area was too hot (my seat mates and I were drenched in sweat at one point) and requested to adjust the thermostat. The heat got so bad that my nose wouldn't stop bleeding. There also wasn't enough lavatory maintenance. I had to grab a water bottle to push down the trash because it was overflowing. Toilet seat covers were not replenished when it ran out after the first 5 hours of my 15 hour flight. It also takes a long time to get assistance from flight attendants. There were two occurrences where they did not respond to my button call so I ended up going up to them in the kitchen to ask for water. PAL needs to develop a better way to serve their customers in their flights. You will always see the presence of flight attendants of Asiana, Korean Air, Delta, Japan Airlines and even Cebu Pacific's domestic flights roaming around the plane periodically to ensure people's needs were met. You have to hunt down a PAL flight attendant to request for something. Overall, PAL is such an utter disappointment. I've always had great experience with Philippine hotels and restaurants. The only thing PAL has an advantage over other airlines is their direct flights to the Philippines. But once other airlines start offering this, I wonder how much business PAL will retain. Stop trying to make a buck and start focusing on customer satisfaction, PAL; you're more than a corporation. Your name represents a nation that should be proud of a lot of things. You are supposed to have only a 7 kilos hand carry Luggage or bag and I follow the Rules, but inside the airport after they check all you're Luggage and papers, there is a lot of small store for the " pasalubong" or goodies that they allowed to do business, and I buy about 3 small boxes of pastries and of course you need to put in you're bag, and now they saying you're bag is over weight..Either , they are not allowed to do business all the store inside the airport after you check- in, or the store should tell that if you more than 1 box of goodies, it will consider another weight for you're Luggage. i read more

DO NOT FLY + DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Worst airline I have ever taken hands down. Would give this airline zero stars if I could. Booked tickets back in March to travel from LAX to Bali with a layover in Manila. 3 days before our flight in September, I called in since I had yet to receive any upcoming flights details which I thought was strange (I travel often and usually receive notifications), and come to find out they cancelled our flights, without informing neither myself or my partner, and had no alternate reservations made for us. Once I spoke with them they just proceeded to tell us they could refund our money or charge us to change/upgrade tickets - which is not desirable if THEY cancelled the flights. We already had all reservations made that we're non-refundable and wanted to go. After 3+ hours of arguing with them and speaking with managers, they "finally" found alternate flights for us to leave a day in a half earlier and come back a day earlier, yet we had almost 3x the layover wait time as we had before (both ways). Not to mention we had to take off days of work last minute and add/cancel our hotel rooms which were non refundable. Super inconvenient and they did nothing to compensate or help even though we had to cancel our hotel stay for the last day with no refund and had to book a last minute hotel for the first night. Flying with them was NO BETTER. The plane was Airbus 300, old, loud, and didn't even have tv's (wonderful for a 14+ hour flight). They gave us each small tablets, yet the wifi would stop every 10-15 minutes so you couldn't ever gracefully watch a movie or show. It took them over 15 minutes before coming to my seat after dinging the bell. I asked for a blanket 5 times yet they still never brought one the whole flight (the flight was FREEZING). They refused to take our trash after meals because it "wouldn't fit in their tray table" so we sat on a 14 hour flight with a bunch of trash at our feet in our already crunched compact tight space (by far the smallest, compact plane I have ever sat in and I travel very often). The flight coming back from Manila to the US was awful, the plane was squeaking and the plane dropped every 8-13 minutes about 5-10 ft in the sky and shook constantly as if we were going to crash. Several passengers would scream or gasp, not pleasant and it definitely gave me anxiety. The flight attendants were not friendly or gracious - if you ever asked for something they would just drop it to you without even saying anything (if they brought it to you at all after asking). They also had issues with us putting our chair back because everyone's seat was so compact so the flight attendants would advise us to not put our seat back. I've never heard of this, and our space was already small and uncomfortable so I was livid when I would put the chair back and they would come by and tell everyone to put it up. How do they expect us to sit like that for that lengthy flight? Overall the booking process prior was no better then the actual flight. Having the same experience flying there as I did back, my partner and I will never be flying Philippines Airlines again. First and last time I ever fly with them. I hope they get it together in the future and learn to have some decent customer service or they will be out of Chapter 11 soon. This is a picture of the seat and space. Called them.. this phone is unattended please try again later. Tried them on facebook. They were polite but could not reach their own baggage team. In February, I flew to Indonesia on Philippine Airlines. Over the past couple of years, I've done quite a bit of travelling (I'm now out of money!), so I've experienced several airlines, and they ranged from OK to terrible (Lufthansa, American Airlines). However, I was impressed with Philippine Airlines, and I would definitely fly with them again. The staff were polite, the food was reasonably good (keep in mind I was flying economy), and they offered free wine. I really can't find anything to complain about. Not to say that everything was perfect (on the flight home, we couldn't watch movies because their system crashed), but all in all, a good airline with staff that knows how to take care of their passengers. I don't eat pork, and afraid of another Lufthansa experience, I asked my travel agent to request non-pork meals. However, she requested kosher meals, and while kosher meals do not have pork, it is not the same as a non-pork meal. The kosher meals were garbage (not Philippine Airlines' fault, as they are prepared by an outside company), and involved a lot of fuckwittery (no, I do not want to pray, nor do I insist that my meal is not seen by human eyes--I just don't want to eat pork!), and I explained my situation--I had simply requested pork-free meals, by my travel agent booked me kosher meals. The flight attendants understood (one of them even gave me an extra meal!), and advised me to talk to the staff at the transfer desk when I arrive at Manila, which I did, and they were able to cancel my kosher meals for my return flight, and book me pork-free meals. (A lot of the food served on Philippine Airlines has pork, so I am glad I made this request. If you're vegetarian or have special dietary restrictions, do make sure you request special meals, and the staff on Philippine Airlines are really good at ensuring you get what you have ordered.) On my flight to Indonesia, I had a nearly ten hour stopover in Manila. Philippine Airlines has a transfer lounge for passengers who have layovers, and while it isn't fancy, it's much more pleasant than hanging around Terminal 2, and has everything you need--chairs, water, a bathroom, and wifi. There's even a small room for you to lie down and sleep, and I actually managed to doze off for a bit. The staff also keep track of your flight and wake you up in plenty of time. They also gave me food vouchers to use at two of the food kiosks (nothing in the Manila airport can really be called a "restaurant"), so free food!
