It wouldn't be a proper trip to Victoria if we didn't partake in some of the local craft beer scene while visiting. Phillips was long on my list of breweries to try and despite Canada being very close to where we are located trips there remain highly infrequent. So finally getting to try some more breweries from the north was an extra perk to our trip! The beer that Steve and I had from this brewery was the TILT Lager and it proved itself to be a good one also! With a nice breadiness and a natural sweetness to it. There is a clean and crisp finish to this beer which we always enjoy experiencing with beers. This beer is light bodied and is easy to have more than one of but we behaved ourselves and shared this refreshing lager. read more

What a terrific place to taste some non-alcoholic brews along side regular ones! My other half does drink alcohol anymore and I drink far less than I used to. We were excited to come to the tasting after having had several Phillips' brews at restaurants around the island. They had one NA brew on tap and all their typical lineup in cans. I tried the dinosour stone fruit. What a tasty number! That and the raspberry lime is my favorite. Now if only they sell it in California! Please, please? Oh, we also had a pretzel with some beer cheese. Tasty, but the beers are the stars. We were here mid afternoon when it was quiet. It's well worth the visit to try their beers. read more

I regret having missed the pleasure of ever stopping into their brewery in Victoria for a tasting. But over the past few years, have thoroughly-enjoyed several of their brews purchased and enjoyed here, and taken away on local trips. For some past stays in Manning Provincial Park, we often took their boxed, mixed bottle products, to set up 'flights'. Setting them up provided a lot of fun, and some tasty enjoyments for happy hours. More recently, it has been purchasing their boxed, mixed canned beer/ale products, and enjoying them here at home. Phillips Brewing is one of Victoria, BC's most highly-rated and regarded craft brewery. And based on my tasting experiences with their products, it sure deserves the rating. read more

Absolutely loved this place! I'm obsessed with Dinosours so I knew I had to come here when I was in Victoria. We each got a flight, I do wish they had more than 2 sours on tap but I'm sure they switch them out occasionally. The light beers I tried were great too! We shared a snack plate and got an extra pretzel, but we probably would have been fine with just one pretzel as they are massive. They also have a merch store next door, you can make a custom mix pack (15% off) and I also grabbed a dinosaur shirt lol. Will be back! read more

We love this place! It is the best deal in town! The bowls are delicious and generous in size. The servers are kind. The place is easy, it feels like a family dinner room. The Brewer and The Roast is a great partnership. Great selection of beers. I do not drink alcohol but my 89-year-old mother enjoys tasting the flights. Do not forget to try the roast! read more

One of the biggest breweries on island. Tasting room is pretty large with a nice patio. Patio bar serves limited selection but there are 16 beers on tap inside. They also serve gin flights and cocktails. Prices are reasonable. We also got some tortilla chips for free. Staff here were super nice. read more

The Blue Buck was the first beer I ever purchased myself, and the Electric Unicorn is a beer I still come back to consistently after having tried probably over a hundred craft breweries around the world. When I found myself in Victoria, I knew I had to visit. The customer service is impeccable, and after having tried pretty much their entire tap, I went with some classics and some sours. I came here last week before wrapping up my Alaska cruise trip. My sister said this place sells good beers so we went here. I can imagine Homer drooling at Duff Beer or donuts, the first world problem if he wants his beer or donuts. So much variety of flavours here. I can also see how beers are packaged the next door which is cool. There's one funny name of beer especially Gangster's Parroteyes. We did a tasting flight ($9) consisting 4 flavours of beer. Philips know how to make their beers here. I don't really like drinking, but liked Leosaurus out of all of them. Something citrusy refreshing to drink on a scorching summer day. We wanted to bring dad here for beer sampling it didn't work out. Fast friendly service. Great place to chill with friends. I saw Dinosaur soap which smelled heavenly it was tempting. Five stars all day long. Great atmosphere and wonderful beers all around. We ended up ordering two different flight tasters. Our server/bartender was easy to talk to and very helpful. Probably one of the best merchandise setups I have seen at any brewery. There was a gentleman with long hair at the merchandise counter. He was completely amazing. He ended up having some tin tackers in the back for us. I would consider this one of the hidden GEMs in Victoria. We bought a couple of shirts and stickers. Great beer!! This brewery is the type of brewery that I can walk into and I can happily say, "take my money!" Since you're probably here to know about their beers, I'll start with that. They have a great selection of beers, different styles for different beer loves - I love a good West Coast IPA or Hazy. Though their pizza looks good, I ended up having chips with hummus, which for what I was craving, were something good to munch on. I did see their pizza and thought it looked good, people looked happy when they were eating it, so I'm assuming it's something you'll want to get for yourself if you stop by. The service there is on point, I think they're fast and efficient and also are there for your beer - and non-beer related - questions. The space itself is nice, I like what they did t with the decorations and how they separate it with the merch space, which is somewhere you'll want to stop by because of their cool graphics and also because it's where you can get your go-to beer. Overall it's an amazing space, an amazing brewery, and somewhere I'll be coming back when I'm in Victoria. read more

I'm writting this for my fellow beer drinkers. Do not ever purchase this brewery's non alcohol pilsner Phillips IOTA Pilsner. It's just terrible! It calls itself a pilsner but there is absolutely no flavours we come to associate with a pilsner. It's just a can of yellow carbonated water. I so wanted to like this beer but sadly, I just couldn't finish it and will be dumping the remaining 3 cans of the four pack. This is an acclaimed brewery with 20 years in the business so I don't know how the brewmaster could allow this to be called a beer. They should change their beer tasters, really. This place is probably the coolest brewery that I've ever been to! It looks like it's a converted car dealership that now serves 15+ types of beer! Plan walking in you see the gigantic bar area with some really cool tabs that I'll come out of a very large pipe. It'a like a plumber met an industrial designer and they opened a bar! The coolest thing about this place is after you order your fears, they arrange them according to color, lightest to darkest. They didn't give you a small print out that discusses each of the beers in detail and gives you everything you need to know about them! It basically Does the explaining for the bartenders, and allows them to concentrate on keeping your beer full. The flights here are absolutely awesome! It was something like eight dollars for a flight of four and between two of us, allowed us to check out anything we were interested in. They specialize, like most places anymore, in hoppy beers that range from very subtle, all the way to very intense. It's actually hard to make recommendations because all of them or really solid. The electric unicorn was the most memorable, mostly because of its name! They have a store just off to the right after entering where you can grab growlers, single cans, six packs, shirts, hoodies or bike jerseys. All in all, this place was really cool. Some of the best beer I've had anywhere, a really nice vibe, very cool set up, and the opportunity to get some to go. If you're in Victoria, you absolutely need to stop here! read more

Phillips Brewing is one of the KINGS in the Craft Beer scene. Their name is on restaurant menus around the province and you can buy their ginger beer/root beer in Safeway eve! I came in and got a flight and after selecting my four and having them put into the system, a little card printed out describing the hoppy notes, flavours, colouring, everything! We got the Solaris White Peach Ale, Citricity Grapefruit Zest IPA, Bottle Rocket ISA, Raspberry Wheat Ale, Tiger Shark Citra Pale Ale.. All were amazinggg but we really liked all the fruity ones! We didn't grab any food but their giant bretzels looked to die for when sipping on a few (or a lot) of beers. Great place. Seems like the perfect afterwork brewery with lots of space to mingle. read more

A personal favourite of mine is Hop Circle! 2. Their selection; Phillips does an excellent job of getting new beers out there for people to enjoy. They are constantly introducing new products to keep their impact fresh and exciting, and, the names and artworks that accompany these products are usually out-of-the-box creative! 3. Their community; from what they've done during the COVID-19 pandemic (making sanitizer for frontline workers) to hosting Phillips backyard party, Phillips is all about creating a positive community! Huge space with lots of seating and polished concrete floors. 16 beers on tap and some snacks too (amazing pretzels made by a bakery down the street, plus pepperoni sticks). Go up to order at the counter and bring to your seat. And the beer! Oh man the beer. So good and such a great variety between the 16 taps. Plus amazing value - get a 4-beer flight for $8 (4 x 4 oz each). What year is it? Where are we? These are just amazing prices. You'll also get a little custom-printed card with the list of beers you ordered and the details of each one. Love that! read more

Phillips tasting room is a revelation for beer lovers! While the brewery has been around since 2001 and is one of the most well-established craft breweries in BC, the relatively new tasting room is a huge addition to the BC beer scene. Matt Phillips waited to do it right, and he exceeded expectations. Sixteen Phillips beers on tap that included eight regulars plus eight special brews that cater to any and all tastes - hoppy beers, sour beers, malty beers, dark beers - they're all here and delicious. They may also have a beer blend of the day on tap. If you're curious about any of the brews, the friendly servers know their beer and can answer your questions in detail. And kudos for the small printout sheets complete with tasting notes that are specific to your specific flight. The space is large with plenty of seating, and there are large windows where you can watch the packaging room in operation. While there isn't a kitchen, there are a few snacks - the $2 cured sausages are very good! And if you're not a beer lover, there is a great selection of Phillips craft sodas, their own Stump Gin, and their Hop Drop Elixir. There is nothing to fault about this great spot. When walking around downtown Victoria BC, this is a brewery worth going out of your way for. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about what they do, which is brew exceptional ales. They have a new storage system going in which consists of about 8 200 gallon (sorry from US) kegs, for lack of a better word, suspended above your head when sitting at the bar. They also distill gin. I know gin and this isn't my favorite, but the ale is top notch. They have lots of munchies to eat while sampling truly fine craft beer. I told my wife if we lived in the area I would ask her to meet me after work at least several times a week. Their bottling plant is right next door so you can watch through windows while sipping their brews. Well done! read more

Having known the brews this company makes, and the overall charity they do in support of both Alberta and BC animal rescues, I wanted to make sure to check it out when we were in Victoria. I was not disappointed! Very clean and trendy atmosphere. I found the prices to be quite reasonable too! I also did the flight of four to try out the variety of beers and was very pleased, I could have had every beer on tap to be honest! They also print out a list with your flight in order of how to sample the beers, which I found interesting and informative! The staff were friendly and helpful. I am also a fan of gin, and was unaware that they distill their own as well, Stump Gin. Which I brought a bottle home with me, it is tasty, but it isn't a gin for everyone. The merchandise area was also very clean, with anything from hats, tee shirts, sweatshirts, growler bar, and cooler with their tonic, beers, gin to purchase to go. Overall I would recommend stopping in, we didn't walk from downtown but instead drove to it while leaving downtown and heading to our accommodations. Plenty of parking, and easy to find. read more

Stopped by Philips during a mini craft brewery tour in Victoria. Convenient location on Government Street with a small parking lot and plenty of street parking nearby. Great knowledgeable staff and a very impressive retail outlet (beers, tonics and gin...yes they make their own gin) with a growler fill area. Very happy that they have a tasting room and that they also do tours. The tour was great and it included generous (4 oz) samples of all the beers they had on tap (which was 8 the day we went). Philips is the largest of the craft breweries we visited during our mini brewery tour in Victoria. They make some great beers with core and rotating/seasonal beers...and they do not compromise on quality. Blue Buck (nice bit of history lesson on the naming of this beer) is probably their most popular and I noticed it available in Liquor Stores in Ontario this past summer...again very impressive. And we did see the original Blue Truck in the back parking lot...again part of the history. Being an IPA guy, I love their Amnesiac...its a double IPA (8.5% and 90 IBU or pretty close). Not for everyone as it is very hoppy but I do love this beer. This is a great brewery making some great beers. It was a very positive experience and happy to recommend Philips Brewing Company and their beers. And of course the tour...great value and nice to learn about the brewery and the beers. read more

Last year, I bought the ManBeast a set of Hip Hops cards (True Beer Geekery in the form of playing cards that feature craft brews from around the world, along with IBUs, ABVs, and year of release, to be played on a one-up-manship basis...) and...ehh, TL;DR Phillips was one of the featured "silver" cards. When we realized we would be in Victoria in August, it made sense that we would use a portion of our precious ONE DAY on the island to visit the brewery. BEER: Incredible. Diverse offerings, enough to please the variety of beer-drinking palates in our small group. For those hopheads amongst us, a variety of hop-forward options. I sampled the Mantra Saison, Electric Unicorn, Bottle Rocket, and (of course) Amnesiac. The ManBeast got Solaris, Raspberry Wheat, Buck, and Slipstream. The Solaris, Unicorn, and Amnesiac were my favourites, and overall, Phillips does a nice job producing brews across the range that stand on their own. BREWERY: Be prepared with a cash donation. You can't buy pints, flights, or samples, but you can ask for "free" samples and stuff some moolah into their donations box. If you stuff nicely, they'll fill you up a flight box of samples and will even print out tasting notes to accompany your brews. The taproom has a small bar, but you can take your samples to the standing bar by the front plate glass windows and enjoy the majestic parking lot scenery. We did make some to-go purchases of a couple bombers, as we couldn't resist the opportunity to try some beers that weren't on tap. OVERALL: Phillips is a solid brewery with an impressive array of offerings. Definitely worth the visit, even if it's only for an hour to sip at some of the day's draught samples. Not much to see and do otherwise -- but if the beer is good enough, as it is here, that doesn't matter. read more

Proper tap room experience here. Nice beers with enough variety that you won't end up choosing something just because you've run out of options. I also like the flight trays they used and the little print outs that come along with your beer details. There was a lively energy to the place, and it's big enough to fit a good number of people with a good amount of bar stools and seating options that some places were lacking. Bonus points - the $5 pretzels were super tasty and good beer accompaniments. Could see this being a go-to "happy hour" destination after work if I lived in the city, so I guess a 5 star review is appropriate! read more

While Phillips is a few blocks north of most of the Victoria sightseeing spots, the beer makes everything worthwhile. You have to go if you're in Victoria. The beer is awesome. All of them. Great beers here. We shopped around in the retail area until the tasting room opened (noon). The tasting room is large with plenty of tables and seating at the bar. They have several different varieties on tap. A flight of four is $8 (CAD). My husband and I ordered two flights to sample as much as we could. With each flight, they print out your personal tasting card with the names of the beers and tasting notes. Nice touch. Each beer we tried had great, distinct flavors and could stand alone without being confused with one another. You can order a pint, in the tasting room. The retail area was nice and spacious too. Two counters, one for growler fills and one for picking up kegs. Glass front fridge doors show the bottled/canned selection available for take away and wall full of shelves with tees to buy. Additional merchandise was on a spinner near the tees. The customer service was excellent. Located just north of China Town, we didn't find this to be a long walk from downtown, but we also like to walk. read more

No too much to get lost and just enough to keep me in my toes during the tastings. As tourist we snagged up all the merchandise we could to take back home to friends. Everything was moderately priced. The growler backpack was 30.00 and the hops liqueur was 4.00 for a small. What really took the cake was the growler vending machine ! I've never seen anything like it !!! The staff was kind and willing to answer all of our questions about the brewery. Sad we didn't get to see any shows during our stay but it's a high light we look forwards to when we come back to visit Victoria again !! read more

Beautifully hipster interior with a great outdoor patio in a convenient downtown location. The beers were tasty and diverse, so there's something for everyone. I REALLY appreciate their variety of craft soda on the menu, as I'm currently pregnant (I was particularly fond of the orange cream). No food service during Covid 19, but still a great experience overall. Next time we're back in town, we'll be paying Phillips another visit. read more
