My experience with Dr. Houck at Phillips Creek Veterinary Hospital was upsetting and unprofessional. Instead of focusing on my dog's care, Dr. Houck repeatedly criticized me for not bringing my dog in sooner, using a condescending tone that made me feel judged and belittled. This was especially frustrating given that I was not aware of the issue earlier and that veterinary care is extremely expensive--often $500 per visit. I love my dog, spend a great deal of time and money caring for them, and came in seeking medical help--not to be made to feel like a bad owner. The lack of empathy and respect was unacceptable. Would like to share a traumatic experience at Phillips Creek Veterinary Hospital. We took our family dog to have him euthanized. We entered a private room, and the process was explained to us. After the sedative was administered, the tech had a difficult time finding a vein in his leg to put the catheter in for the euthanasia medicine. After poking him repeatedly, she went to get help. A second technician tried our dog's other leg. After stabbing him repeatedly with the needle, she finally found a vein. We said our final goodbyes and I placed my dog's head on my lap while my wife sat next to him. Dr. Hull explained it would take 30 seconds to 3 minutes for him to pass. After several minutes, nothing happened. The technician was asked to get more of the drug as some spilled out of the needle when giving the first dose. The second dose was given and again nothing. I asked Dr. Hull if he was sure the iv was in his vein. He said yes, and added that our dog would have started thrashing, even under sedation, as the medicine would cause severe pain if the drug wasn't given through the vein. Dr. Hall then administered the drug two more times. You could tell something was wrong as my dog started twitching and his breathing got heavier. Dr. Hull then admitted the iv was NOT in the vein. Dr. Hull also changed his story and insisted our dog was not suffering although he had just said how incredibly painful it would be should the medicine not go directly in the vein. At that point, Dr. Hull said it would be best to give our dog a lethal dose directly into his heart. He said it can be traumatic to watch. I told him it was very important for us to be back with our beloved dog when he passes. He said it would take 30 seconds to 3 minutes and he would bring us back in right after the drug was administered. Assured by this, we stepped right outside the door trusting either Dr. Hull or the tech would get us right away. We waited for what seemed like an eternity (was about 10 minutes). Finally, Dr. Hull opened the door, and we entered the room to find our dog lying dead on the floor. He died alone without being surrounded by the people who loved him. We were heartbroken and infuriated at the same time. All Dr. Hull said was, I told you he could go fast. He told us it would be 30 seconds to 3 minutes. We cannot imagine how much our family dog suffered and what was done to him during those final 10 minutes. When you Google what happens when euthanasia medicine is administered outside the vein, none of the results say they die peacefully. It took Dr. Hull and the Phillips Creek Veterinary Hospital team 1 hour 30 minutes and 5 administered doses of medicine to euthanize our dog. We had to prepare to watch him die FOUR times! Afterwards, all they could say was they were sorry for our loss. When I went to pick up the ashes, I asked to speak to someone in management as this was such a traumatic experience. I was directed to Tiffany Reed. She was aware that things didn't go smoothly, but also wasn't aware of several details including the multiple euthanasia shots. She was also misinformed that we asked for our dog to not be put on a table (they are claiming that's what impacted the catheter not being inserted properly). When we walked in the room, there was a blanket on the floor where our dog could lay down. The only thing we were asked was if it was ok to take him to another room to get weighed to ensure proper medicine amount. He was having a lot of trouble getting up/walking, so we said it may be tough, but we were able to get him up to go do that. They then brought him back into the room, laid him down and the doctor administered the sedative drug. At NO POINT did they ask to put him on a table. They took no responsibility and gladly accepted payment for the traumatic service they provided. I strongly encourage anyone reading this to never ever take your family pets to this place. I can only imagine what would happen if you brought a healthy pet that requires an IV. read more

Pros: - The techs are very kind and sweet to our furry babies. - They will try to accommodate you if you need a rush appointment. - The offices are well kept, so you don't feel you are in a dungeon. - The vets follow up after visits (a week after, but follow up). - Depending on the day, you will get nice front office person. - If you have a very sick pet and are considering euthanasia, the vet will take the time to speak with you over the phone and help you evaluate the situation. Cons: - Our experience with our geriatric dogs has not the best, as the vets do not seem to be able to pinpoint what the furry babies ailments are most of the time. - They do not enforce masks, their front office staff does not wear masks either. So, this is a pro if you are anti-vax and anti-science, but it is a con for anyone within a high risk group or with cats; considering COVID is transmissible to cats. If a medical/vet office does not enforce masks, you need to wonder the quality or medical expertise they have. PLEASE do not take your pet here!!! I have been taking my cats here for years, but never again!!! I brought my cat in for urinary issues. Dr. Hull rushed through an exam without asking any questions. He said I needed to start feeding him their special $4/can cat food and all would be well. The next day, my cat was lethargic, wouldn't eat, and wasn't using the cat box. I would later learn that he was block and had elevated kidney levels. The doctor told me in no uncertain terms that without treatment, "This could kill him." Phillips Creek is the priciest vet in town. I was told once they were the best, so I didn't mind the high prices. My Freddie has now been in the hospital 3 days. Thank you to the doctors at Frisco Emergency Pet Care for saving him after Phillips Creek Veterinary Hospital sent Freddie home to die. read more

The nurse so kind and thoughtful and the Dr truly cares. He explained everything so clearly. As a former employee of 4.5 years, I write this review with all honesty. Phillips Creek was the best clinic I've worked at. The compassion from the front end, technicians and doctors is well above standard care. The part that our clients don't usually see is when we cry, even with doctors, when our clients have to say goodbye to their best friend. We take that pain with us too. The realization is that we are all fallible and no one is perfect. Things don't always turn out the way we had hoped. We get bit, scratched, deficated, urinated on and we still love your babies as if they were our own. We do our best to get all pets in, sometimes it's not possible, sometimes an emergency hospital is what is in the best interest of your pet, not because we couldn't get you in. Please take into consideration that there are always more sides to a story than just the one that leaves a bad review. With three pups in our family, we are frequently visiting Phillips Creek Vet. We tried several vets in the area when we moved to Texas last year. Once we found Phillips Creek Vet, we knew we found "the one". The office is accommodating, responsive and staffed with expert professionals who have deep compassion for animals. Dr. Ta is our primary veterinarian and takes great care to fully explain the rationale informing his every diagnosis. We will be forever grateful to him and to the office for the great lengths they took to treat our eldest boy, Hugo. He received the very best care and is smiling down on us, thankful for the respect & dignity he was shown in the last year of his life. I recently moved to the area and brought in one of my dogs who was having multiple problems including severe skin, ear, and eye issues. He was seen by Dr. Shuffield who said my dog most likely had allergies. He prescribed allergy medicine and ear drops and gave me some advice on how to clear up the skin problem. He spent a lot of time with me and was very helpful. He said that if the eye problem didn't go away, I should see a veterinary ophthalmologist. I was charged $236.80 for this exam, 1 week of allergy medicine, ear drops, and ear rinse. After 1 week, the skin problem went away, which is great because several other vets have looked at the same skin problem over the years and were never able to resolve it. The eye problem did not go away so I brought him in again and asked to see the same vet. I was told that Dr. Shuffield is retired and was only there that one day as a "relief vet" and doesn't really work there regularly. Instead I was given an appointment with Dr. Hull. After an hour long wait in the exam room, just before I was going to leave and not come back, Dr. Hull finally came in and rushed through the exam, talking very fast, because he was behind schedule and had "other people waiting". He said my dog's tear ducts were blocked and would need to be flushed under general anesthesia, for $387 - $462. I questioned why the better vet told me to go to a specialist but Dr. Hull said he's done this a few times before and said he could do it. I decided to take him to a veterinary ophthalmologist and am very glad I did. The ophthalmologist said my dog's tear ducts were NOT blocked and said the other vet likely did the dye test improperly and came to the wrong conclusion because of that. The ophthalmologist flushed his tear ducts without anesthesia and said he just needs stronger eye drops. The ophthalmologist charged $221 for the exam, dye test, tear duct flush, and eye drops. I would bring my dog back here if I could see Dr. Shuffield, but since he's retired, I don't see how I can come back here. read more

I'm sad to say that after a great first visit, which I previously reviewed, we will not be returning. The staff are stil veryl friendly, but I feel I was totally ripped off. I understand being charged the vet exam fee on a puppy's first visit, which is totally warranted. But being charged the same fee for three different vets, just for shots, that's ridiculous. And on top of that, I had to pay for a worm test that was absolutely not needed, per other vet offices I've spoken to, and which was never performed. It was never performed, because the first visit, I brought a fecal sample which disappeared. They added it to my charges a couple of visits later, and I didn't bring in another sample, again, because it's not needed. But, they got their wish and got my money. I understand every vet has a different philosophy on testing, but charging an exam fee by 3 different vets, only to be asked the exact same questions already notated, such as what food am I feeding my puppy, that's absurd. I have a printout of the first exam notes, which shows it's in their system, and as I said in the beginning of each visit, nothing has changed. I really like the staff here and I hate that I had to search for a different vet, but I will not be taken advantage of. Two of my friends have new puppies as well, and they never had to pay for vet exams every single time their puppy went in for shots. So disappointed in my wasted money. read more

Great vet! Great people! I brought my black lab in for a lingering ear infection. The care WE ALL received was phenomenal. My dog was relatively calm in there and so we're we. There were very thorough and maintained great communication with us. They took the time to clearly explain and demonstrate how to apply the medication. They worked with us. A vet review should be analyzed by front office staff and the providers. Sadly for this clinic it is the front office staff that is flawed. I have literally had insane amount of drama with this office. The first offense was due to a tenured front staff that's been a tech and loved by the docs. This staff member essentially got frustrated that I walked in 10 minutes before close. I know it's frustrating and staff typically want to go home and are counting down the minutes but they have to be mindful that people have to work around their work schedules as well. This staff member was giving me attitude while attempting to help me, at the time I was shocked and I spoke of her to my husband that was standing next to me in a foreign language. The staff heard my husband respond in the different language and picked up on two English words and ran with it and told the vet that that I was speaking ill of her and that he even agreed. The vet got involved with the drama and called me sticking up for the front desk girl while disclosing my dogs lab results to me. I didn't appreciate the vet getting involved the least bit and found it to be distasteful. Having been in similar situations, having worked in the small clinical setting where staff manipulate the storyline in their favor so they are not faulted, I know how things play out. Later I had another issue with getting the staff to get a rx refilled via online pharmacy. It took 4 business days to get through to the staff, finally a male front office member that I have never seen prior was kind enough to get the prescription filled and leave it outside for me to pick up after hours. The issue with the prescription refill continued a second and final time, which was just unacceptable. I called literally begging for mercy for a refill for my dog. I followed up by the end of the day because my dog would not stop scratching himself, and had scabs all over him. It's hard dealing with an issue in real life versus explaining it to staff that hear complaints all day long, they think it's one of many and you are on a list with other patients, however, I know certain issues are not as urgent and scale differently as well. Regardless, I followed up at the end of day and the morning after and the staff kindly stated it may be another day. Mind you, initially she said it could take up to 24 hours. In the past staff had mentioned utilizing the app for refill requests, oddly enough the app allows you to select same day pick up with three variations of pick up times through the day. Anyhow during my follow up call I asked to talk to the office manager as she was attentive in the past, this go around however, she was passive and had an agenda to validate their clinic process and never voiced an apology or sympathy. She kept coming back and saying "you should request these refills in advance". I heard her, however, I have an older dog and his symptoms wax and wane, it's hard dealing with animals because they cannot speak, I became so emotional I was in tears asking for mercy and an exception and to get the prescription filled earlier. The manager started stating I am not the only client the office has, and that I need to wait an additional day and then laughed and hung up on me. I am sure in their huddle at the clinic they will paint me as the crazy unrealistic client, however fact of matter is this office seems to have a high influx of patients and not enough staff to support their demand and what ends up happening is pressure builds up and leads to mismanagement of patients, the people that pay for their doors to stay open. Going to a vet and service received should be warm and empathetic because after all they are giving care to people that have big hearts and carrying for animals, that can't speak and voice their pain, however the owners love warrants affectionate care when they put their trust in a medical clinic. Please take what I am saying to heart and listen. These reviews or moments of dissatisfaction are not based on false pretenses. I have seen the staff respond to reviews stating the people leaving them are not found in their system or come up with an ambiguous narrative to dismiss them, but this is an absolute valid and honest review. So please save yourself the trouble and do not consider them even at a moment of desperation. My family and I have been rescuing dogs for over a decade and a half and have NEVER dealt with any form of drama and hysteria as I have with this clinic. I am new to the Frisco area, hence why I tried them. Quality care is hard to find and with staff shortage I guess. read more

Dr Lopez is such a great doctor. He was my dog doctor for about two years at Cornerstone, and then left to create his own veterinary practice. We continued to go to Cornerstone because it was close to home. However the experience at Cornerstone started to decrease. They changed my dog's prescription food causing him to have allergic outbreak. Even though I was seeing the same doctor he seemed to know remember anything about us or our dog. Therefore we searched and found Dr Lopez at Philips Creek Veterinary Hospital. Dr Lopez has help to get my dog back on track. My husband and I (maybe more me, haha) are very, very particular about who takes care of our cats. We have 4 and they are most definitely our family and we care very deeply about their health. Going to an AAHA certified vet is a must-have for us, so before we moved, we researched clinics in our area that were. I called a few, and inasmuch as I could, decided on what I thought was the best, Philips Creek Veterinary Hospital. We had a brief visit when we first arrived because we had some sneezing and coughing, but it was a quick visit and although I liked Dr. Hull (we like to have one vet that we see, preferably one that "specializes" in cats), I didn't have a good opportunity to get to know him. When the time came for our yearly checkup (all needed exams, and one needed a shot) we got to see Dr. Hull at his best. Having had 4 cats for many years, I can definitely attest that it can be a goat rodeo, and a lot depends on the personalities in the room. The vet tech that worked with us was amazing. She kept all their names straight, took down every piece of information we had and reviewed records from our previous vet to make sure we were doing what was needed. Weighing/vitals/temperature time was really relaxed and as easy as it gets for all of our cats. I think it was because they felt free to roam, so if it took a little longer to get their weight, that was ok. Major thumbs up on that one. When Dr. Hull came in, he got down on the floor, because that's where we were. I don't know how to describe it - we have 4 cats, but it seemed that he paid attention to them all, but also focused on one at a time. It was great! Our cats never felt restricted or "held down" and were allowed to roam away when we were talking about their health, what needed to be done (dentals, B12 supplements, etc.). We felt that each cat got a thorough exam by someone that we trust and like. We were sent home with detailed notes from the visit (enough to fill up a page for each!) as well as reminders for next year's appointments. We are very, very happy with the clinic and especially Dr. Hull. Two thumbs up! On a side note, Dr. Hull even checked on the B12 supplements to see if they would be less expensive to buy on Amazon rather than at the vet's office. He scored major points with us. read more

If I could give this place negative stars I would. If you want to take your pet to a place and wonder if it's alive, this is the place! I have an adventurous kitten who took a flying leap. He was so young and limping so I took him here. Let me tell you. We had an amazing vet before but they are drive now that we moved. I didn't think two vets could be so different. I dropped him off. Said ok to xrays I expected. Ok to being put under for them if needed. I said before I left take care of him. I was very worried about internal injuries and to please keep me updated I was assured that they would. That was the last I heard from them. I call 3 times for an update. Nothing. I dropped him off at 8 in the morning. I didn't know if he was alive anymore. Finally at my last call I was told to come in at 5:30. I asked if he was alive and explained I couldn't believe I never heard anything. I was told he was alive but that was it. I didn't know what to expect when I went in. Was he dying? Did he need surgery? Was something broken? Will there be a cast? So many questions. They made me wait in a room 20 min before they came in with him. I was so happy to see he was just fine. I expressed how I felt about no one calling. That was brushed aside. I expressed I didn't know he was alive or not all day. The nurse looked at me confused. I told her how could I know if no one called. Every time I called I was told he is being looked at. Guess what happened when I finally talked to the doctor? What doctor? NEVER talked to the doctor. I left upset with how this was handled all around. Also was told because he was so cute he was held all day never put down. I had the feeling they kept him just to play with a kitten, not joking on this one at all. He should not have been held all day. He should have been resting. I paid $500 for that hot mess. I was very much over charged. They over charge for everything. Not worth it. They are also worm med pushers even though the test was negative (are you joking?!?!?) To top it off my kitten came home with fleas. Gave it to our other kitten and older cat. So that was fun. I paid $500 to find out more people suck and to get fleas. Bottom line take your pet here you will get fleas and be over charged!!!! read more

My dog was chocking in a bone so I brought him in, not only did the vet not take an X-ray he just gave him medication that made him drowsy. My dog chocked and suffocated on that bone for 2 1/2 hours before he passed away. This vet should never be allowed to practice again. This vet is truly the best and believe me I have been to my fair share of vets. We have a kitty with asthma, FIV, epilepsy, and now lymphoma. I have 2 other cats and a dog. We have taken all of our babies here and they are taken such good care of every single time. Dr. Lopez has always been transparent and thorough with his exams and makes sure you feel comfortable with how your pet will be cared for. We've got three older dogs with a lot of issues. All the people here are just wonderful and Dr. Lopez and Dr. Hull are just the best! They provide excellent care and I completely trust either of them with my dogs. One of my dogs had aspiration pneumonia and we thought she might die. They took such great care of her and she recovered and quickly. We were so grateful. That's not the only issue they've helped us deal with and each time I feel very confident they are getting the best care! I highly recommend this vet office! read more

We went to another area veterinarian service before that felt too crowded and we did not get the individualized care that we found here at Philips Creek Veterinary Hospital. Just this weekend we had an emergency need to come - and they were able to work us in very efficiently. We have 2 dogs, one is very special needs (epileptic) and they care for him with dignity and respect. The front office staff is very friendly, efficient and helpful. Also, as a technology geek - I think it is cool that they accept Apple Pay (for card tech nerds out there - you know this is more secure than chip and pin). Very thorough vet! Our geriatric chihuahua came in with terrible teeth with most needing to be pulled. It was pretty pricey but after seeing how much happier he is now it was worth every penny. The follow up by the doctor and staff is second to none. Wish they were cheaper but I highly recommend them if you want your beloved pet in great hands! read more
