I rarely leave reviews, but people need to be aware of what they're walking into with 2nd Family Dog. This has been one of the most frustrating companies I've ever had to deal with. Every single time I tried to schedule a groom or boarding, there were issues. What should have been a simple process turned into a drawn-out, frustrating experience with poor communication and no clear answers. To make things worse, after multiple attempts to get something scheduled, they claimed they "didn't like my tone" and refused to allow me to make a reservation at all. I've never experienced anything like that. Instead of trying to resolve the situation or help a customer, they chose to shut the door completely. Customer service is where they completely fall apart. Responses are slow, often rude or dismissive, and there's zero sense of urgency or accountability. It genuinely feels like they don't value their customers. At this point, it's hard to tell if they even care about having customers at all, let alone new ones. Do yourself a favor and avoid 2nd Family Dog at all costs. There are plenty of other businesses out there that will treat you with respect and actually make the process easy. read more

Our dog Teddy has been getting groomed here for many years and they have always done a wonderful job on his cuts. But the reason for this 5 star review is for their boarding services. This week we were out of town and left our dog Teddy in their care. He has some medical conditions that required medications to be administered which 2nd family was able to do. While we were out of town, Teddy unfortunately became very sick and ultimately needed to be put down yesterday. 2nd family kept in contact with us the entire time and even drove our pup to the vet and stayed there with him until he was admitted. Even though we lost our dog yesterday we are beyond grateful to have found a place who truly, treats animals as if they were their own. I cannot recommend this place enough. I brought my dog here for a grooming appointment at 9 AM. When I arrived, they informed me she needed one vaccine update--something they could've easily told me ahead of time or when I called to schedule. Instead of offering a solution, they told me to find someone to administer the shot and bring her back. I managed to find a place to give her the vaccine by 10 AM and called to let them know. They said it was fine to bring her in after that. However, at 10:16, they called asking if I could get her there in four minutes. I told them I could be there in ten. Despite going out of my way to get the vaccine, missing over two hours of work, and trying to accommodate their inconsistent requests, they canceled her appointment. The lack of communication and consideration was extremely frustrating. read more

2nd Family Dogs is the only place I board my dog. I can't just leave my dog with anyone so it's imperative that I leave her with a company that I can trust. The staff is friendly. You can either call or book online to reserve a boarding reservation. My all time favorite thing is the cameras!!! I can always see my fur baby whether I'm in town or out of the country. We love 2nd Family and so does our pup. She's kind of shy and apprehensive, but we watched them acclimate her to the pack on her first couple of visits (over the video cameras). One of the handlers picked her up and held her for at least 10 minutes to let all of the other dogs get used to her. After a couple of attempts, she finally got comfortable with the group. Now she just blends in and gets lots of exercise when she stays there. The staff are always welcoming and friendly and we can tell they are all dog people. And she gets a bath and smells great when we pick her up. We've been customers for over 3 years and we would not trust anyone else to watch her when we travel because we know she is safe. read more

I took my dog here for the first time for doggie daycare. He had an amazing time. I loved being able to watch him on the web cam's. He got a ton of outside time and time with the other dogs. I have mixed reviews on this place. The FIRST time I took my 4 dogs there for 9 nights I was very impressed. Everything I saw on camera wasn't a problem. They actually had to take one of my teacups to the emergency vet ( she has IBS and had a flare up) and not only was her IBS a problem but she had pancreatitis. They probably saved her life. Very thankful for that. The second time I took them there for 9 nights wasn't so great. I question a lot of things but don't have any proof. First , my teacup was on a antibiotic for her IBS and I got her some medicine from the vet to help her with her anxiety. ( both needed to be refrigerated) When I picked them up and got home. I unloaded their "doggie bag" and found only the syringe for the antibiotic in the plastic bag. Which was much smaller then the syringe for her anti anxiety medication. I found that syringe in the bottom of the bag. So I'm guessing she wasn't getting the correct dosage of her anti anxiety medication. Second, all of them are pee pad trained. They don't pee/poo outside. I took a whole box for their stay which was enough for their stair plus a few extra. When I picked them up I got the whole box back with only 2 used out of the box. So what where the going to the bathroom on?????? Third, it was hot while I was gone so they were limiting outdoor doggie daycare. Very happy with this. BUT the amount of dogs they had inside was CRAZY!!!!!! They need to make a much bigger indoor space for these days. PLUS it impacted the amount of time my dogs could be out of their cage because they are so small and seniors. I called them multiple times and asked them to please let my dogs out with the small/ medium size dogs. I was confident they wouldn't have a problem. They did great with the mix of dogs but in my opinion there was WAY too many dogs in the indoor area. Boarding/daycare isn't cheap. I always try to find the BEST place to take my babies so I don't have to worry about them. Unfortunately due too all the issues on their second boarding/daycare I can't trust them now. We have two high-drive 9 month old puppies - large mix-breeds who are definitely a handful. They are regulars at 2nd family, and they love their once-a-week day of play. We have also boarded them at 2nd family for single and multiple-night overnights. The staff is very thorough in their intake and make notations of the pups' feeding and med schedules on our pet portal (which is visible to us online). The handlers are always really patient and know how to address overly rambunctious pups. The level of communication is unmatched, both via telephone/face-to-face conversations and online. The online portal is super handy. I appreciate the the reminders to update vaccines and option to upload copies of vaccines and proof of flea/tick/heartworm treatment. I like the ability to schedule online for MONTHS in advance and to receive reminders for upcoming boarding/daycare reservations. And I definitely take advantage of the options to purchase packages and prepay costs. This facility is bright, cheery, clean, and always fresh-smelling. My dogs come home to us peppy but exhausted. Amazing first day of daycare and so happy to have found a facility that actually cares about dogs and treats them as their own. My fiance and I were nervous wrecks leaving our German Shepherd pup Koda there for her first daycare session. We watched on the webcams as she seemed very nervous being around so many dogs but soon learned to join the pack and stayed next to the caregiver who was outside. They both obviously have people working their that love dogs. Next--the amenities are off the hook! I think my dog had a better vacation resort than I did!! Gus loves to swim and this place has a full-sized as well as kiddie pools. He had his own little kennel where he could always see other dogs and not feel so isolated. I am so grateful for this place! I found 2nd family by driving by one day and thought I'd give them a try. As my dog loves the interactions and to be busy. But due to covid I've had a lot more conferences and needed to focus. I loved that you can watch the cameras from different angles too! The staff was so nice to me when I dropped him off and so patient with the pup who was very insecure about going to a new place. I came back 8 hours later and as soon as I said my dogs name they knew he was new and who he was. There were tons of dogs there. So that little added personal touch solidified my choice of choosing this place for camp. I also appreciated how they had pools out for the dogs to lay in! Happy Dogs, Happy Mom I can't begin to sing all of the praises for 2nd Family Dogs. From the owners to the handlers, my 3 dogs have never been a happier pack than they are every day when I pick them up. I bring all 3 in daily for daycare and when I need, I make appointments for shampoos, and boarding. The one thing I like the most about 2nd Family Dogs is they have all of the information online where you can book daycare, grooming, boarding, and purchase full-day or half-day daycare. They keep track of their vaccination records and will notify you when one is about to expire. When I set up each profile online, you can upload their photo and any detailed information for boarding. So when you drop your pet off, all of the information is ready ahead of time. Since 2 of my dogs are a husky & husky mix, I do get concerned when they overheat. The staff will always make accommodations whenever they are in need of a shade break. My other dog loves the pool. I can clearly see from the webcam that he is having a blast fetching toys and swimming around. I've used several area facilities, one of which I was a long-time customer, and decided to give 2nd Family Dogs a try for weekend daycare since the other facility had operating hours M-F 8 am - 6 pm. The first time I picked them up, they were so exhausted that I knew I had to make the move. Breaking up with my neighborhood facility was very hard for me personally as I considered them family. As I slowly made the transition over, I soon discovered that they kept my dogs separated from the other large dog groups and were kept in what they called "small play groups" but only with each other. While they were there 5 days a week, they had no socialized group time, and from what I was told, for over a year. They have no webcams, unlike 2nd Family Dogs where I can see all 3 outside having fun and inside getting the rest while boarding. I can rest assured they are being taken care of like each of mine are their furbabies. For that, I highly recommend 2nd Family Dogs for all of the services they provide. read more

Super impressed with the boarding service at the 2nd Family Dogs in McKinney (State 121 and Stacy)!!! My 1.5 year old King Charles Cavalier was boarding for 10 days (6/19/2021) while our family was out of town. The staff is friendly, professional, taking care of the dogs with love, just like treating their family members, they hand fed my pup for dinner (my pup is a picky eater, doesn't like to eat inside the suite.....how did I know that? They have webcams in multiple areas (no need to login, either download their app or view through web browser), I were able to see my pup playing in the yard, relaxing in the suite and fun swimming with a lifeguard (a small fee applies for swimming). Also, I saw through the webcam that they clean the dog suite individually while the dogs playing outside in the yard. They also check the dogs individually at least twice a day when they are back to their suite from playing outside in the yard. Highly recommended this place. Note: I don't have any benefits or interest with this dog care boarding company, just wanted to pass out the GREAT service they provide. They are pretty busy, approximately 1 week out for dog day care service. read more

I was searching online for different dog daycares for my bull terrier mix Kaiya and came across this place. The pictures displayed a place that I dog to visit, being outdoors majority of the time was a big plus for me. Registering my dog was very easy, the website is easy to navigate and they also have webcams that allow you to check in on your dog. My dog seems to really enjoy her time here and she always comes home ready to take a nap which is also a plus for me. The staff is very friendly and efficient and they make it very easy to make reservations, drop off and pick up your dog. It makes me feel very relieved to feel that my dog is with people who really care about animals and tend to their needs. I will continue to bring my dog here for a long time to come. read more

2nd Family is definitely going to be my go-to place for boarding my 2 pups. I absolutely love everything about the facility: it's staffed by the friendliest and most attentive people who truly care about your pet's wellbeing; it's clean; and most importantly, if I want to see what my dogs are up to, I can do so with the webcams. Of course, my dogs found the ONLY blindspot in the entire facility and stood there a majority of the time (doh!), but when they weren't standing at the gate like, "let me in, let me in" they seemed to be having a great time. The reservation process couldn't be easier. I love that you can do it all online. I only had to call when I needed to alter my reservation to come in a day early -- they've recently updated their website so maybe this problem was fixed. One hiccup was, on the reservation, we requested that our 2 dogs board separately because the puppy tends to get on the older dog's nerves (or maybe she's just sassy... still debatable) but they were boarded together anyway. At the end of the day, it wasn't a big deal and both dogs emerged unscathed after not being able to "escape" each other for 3 days. And they actually did very well together and when they got home, their bond was way better then than it ever was before! I might board them together from now on. Although it was a mishap in communication, it turned out for the best so I won't fault them. Overall, if you're looking for a safe, clean, and caring environment, choose 2nd Family Dogs. read more
