I love this place! I recently went here with a few of my friends because we wanted to do something different for her birthday, rather then the normal dinner/bar/dancing combo. I used to come to Palace ALL the time from about ages 12-15. One thing I can say is that the decor has not changed at all since I was a kid. They are def. overdue in updating the look of the place. Also, the bathrooms can be a bit funky at times. Aside from that, I still love it. It's $7 to get in and $3 for a skate rental. You can choose either regular roller skates or rollerblades, and the rental price is the same for both. They have lockers for your shoes which run about $.50. There is a spot to get food there where they sell the usual pizza, nachos, pretzels, icees, funnel cake, fries, soda, etc. The prices are cheap when it comes to the food, which is nice, but its nothing special. They also offer birthday party packages where you can rent out the upstairs for a party for a pretty good price. They have all different skating sessions, including an all-adult session on Saturdays from 10:30-12:30 am. The staff is friendly & they offer video games, ski-ball, and other arcade-style games to play when not skating. With the tickets you win playing those games you can take it to the skate shop and exchange them for prizes. It's def. a great place for kids & I will continue to come back here as long as it is open! read more

Well, not too many roller skating centers around so the Palace really has the upper hand and knows it! The web site is a joke, and nobody answers the phone. Prices are cheap but I wish they would upgrade to this century. Dirty, gross food area, and the bathroom looks like a prison. People do go and the wood floor is great, music is alway spot on. Just don't fall on the rugs, guaranteed to get some type of disease. Come on Palace, time for a makeover. read more

I went to Palace with a couple of friends and my wife- all of us in our 30s and had a good time. We went on a Saturday afternoon around 2:30 and it was pretty crowded. There were kids and parents everywhere and a couple of bday parties going on. BUT it was still fun! The music was good- they played pop music, r&b-basically top 40. It was nostalgia at it's best. We played a couple of classic games- skee ball, and arcade basketball. I also visited the concession stand and tried the fries - NOT good and the pizza- barely okay. But if you're hungry it will do. They have adult skate a couple nights days a week which is likely better than skating with all the kids- but going in the afternoon is still fun. I like this place, I really do! One of my friends had a birthday party here to do something a bit different than our usual bar crawl around the city. I was excited for roller skating on a Friday night! I'm more of a blades girl, so I was disappointed that they were all rented out. I was given a pair of those retro skates from the 80s. Huge sigh, but nevertheless, I skated around the rink like a pro. Lots of kids, families, young couples, and some of the kids were just obnoxious. The skate police were out to make sure that no one was skating too fast (hehe, I was one of them). They made sure that they did the classic skating party favorites: girls only, guys only, slow skate, and backwards skate for beginners and advanced. Cool. Since we had a birthday party, it came with pizza and soda. Pizza was nothing gourmet, but it gave me the energy to get back on the rink. Another gripe was the parking lot, and everyone leaving at the same time. It's a traffic jam I want to avoid if I ever come back. Chickie's and Pete's was close by, so we ended up there for a more "adult" party! read more

I think Palace is a pretty disgusting rink. The floor itself is nice and everyone who works there seems to be great, but the place itself is gross. The snack bar is probably the cleanest part (which I guess is good) but the rest is pretty gross. The bathroom especially is really bad. Even as a guy who can stand when in the bathroom I still hated going in there. To me they looked like they were never clean. One time I was there I used a pair of rented skates and they were pretty bad. You could tell the owners were trying to get as much use out of the wheels as they could before changing them. It was hard to try and go straight because the wheels had so much wear on them, the automatically wanted to make you turn. One could only hope that this place comes to their senses and realizes they need to clean the place up. They probably wont though because they don't really have any competition in the area. The closest other rink is Holiday in NJ, which is the same owners. read more

This has become a favorite weekend activity for our family. Our kids are really enjoying skating and getting much better. The family session on Saturday mornings (11 am to 1 pm) is a great deal and a lot of fun for the kids. My daughter and husband skate every Saturday morning here with the club, so it was the obvious choice when my daughter said she wanted to take her friends skating for her birthday. We went to the Saturday night open skating session, and it was great! I was happy it wasn't too crowded, and there were people in all age groups and skill levels skating. read more

They basically only allow forward skating. So it's kind of lame and a little monotonous!

Great Roller Skating Venue! My wife used to come here as a kid and now our kids are really into roller skating so we come here at least a couple times per month now. They have kept the classic look/vibe/decor but it is a very well kept and clean place on and off the rink. They do all the traditional roller rink "specials" and the music is great. Yesterday I was at Palace and there were about six birthday parties going on. Palace allowed one 20-something attendee walk freely around the place for hours wearing a T-shirt that said "Cheers Fuckers". While she may be allowed her free speech the owners have a right, and a responsibility to its patrons, to enforce a dress code. Parents may want to consider this when planning their first grader's birthday Thank you for your response. It apparently was missed by the person at the front window, the person at the ticket counter, the skate guards, the people at the concession counter, and the servers assigned to the birthday party she attended. My daughter skates at palace at least once a week and has for many years since she's a competitive skater. I think Palace is amazing!

We came here for my nieces birthday party. Her theme was Suicide Squad, so she wanted to dress up as Harley Quinn. Well once she starts to skate the DJ rudely says over the intercom "I thought Halloween was over." I look around and notice that my niece is the only one he can be talking about. Well I went to ask the DJ who is was talking about and he told me someone else. Looking around again I said there was no way you were talking about anyone else, I said the only person I see dressed up is my niece and it's her birthday. I told him he was rude in a not so nice way and asked to speak to a manger. As I went to talk to the manger he said he was sorry for the DJ saying that, but he can't take the insult back. I never in my life experienced such ignorance from people. I will most likely never come back here again. read more

The Palace boasts a HUGE rink, wow. They keep the place squeaky clean and play old-school hip-hop and a 70's-80's mix (Saturday nights). They have several adult skates, wich is nice because you can then avoid the flailing children that seem to occupy every other skating spot. There are some serious skaters who are regulars here. Even if you don't skate, it's fun to watch them. It looks like the ice capades meet the roller derby! read more

And the employees were really rude .i called before I came and asked what time do they close because it was my daughter's 16th birthday and they said at 10pm and when we got there they told us we could not roller skate. Then the lady asked me who I talked to like I was supposed to ask the person their name . I saw bed bugs crawling in the carpet. Their employees were high. read more

I came to the Palace for my share of birthday parties--no, I never had my own birthday party here, but I have many friends who have, sometimes 2 years in a row! They must have loved it that much. In the summers when I attended a day camp in the area, the camp would rent out the entire rink and we'd just skate to our hearts' content. Also in middle school I also used to go to the Palace roller skating parties for the 4th through 6th graders in lieu of the dances that the 7th and 8th graders had. The summer of 1999 and the beginning of the '00s was when I frequented the Palace the most, so if you're in my generation and/or you remember those years well, you'd probably figure what kind of music they played. Unfortunately, I injured my elbow in July of 1999 and was restricted for about 6 months from doing any type of physical activity that would put me at risk of re-injury, so that meant no skating for me--even though my friends had parties there that I attended, but because of doctor's orders, I couldn't skate. I wasn't happy at all about that. However, when I attended a skating party in 5th grade, about a month or two after I was allowed to engage in physical activity again, I had the time of my life. From when I used to frequent the Palace, I remember that when any and all skaters were free to use the rink, they called it "All Skate," (kind of reminds me of playing Scene It? and clicking "All Play..." lol) but they would also do a couples skate, backwards skate (for experienced skaters only), ladies' and mens' only skates (where the rink was restricted for one song to just guys or girls), play "The Chicken Dance" and the "Hokey Pokey" and invite people to do those infamous dances out on the rink. I haven't been to the Palace nor have I rollerskated since 2001, but I will always remember how much fun I had there as a pre-teen. read more

I've been skating here since I was a child, and that's about the last time they updated the carpeting. I watched a kid throw up when I was a kid in the corner near the arcade, next to the Simpsons game - the stain is still there 20 years later. Though, considering the complete and total lack of roller rinks left in the world, I still respect what this place stands for and I applaud the owner for staying around despite the fight and drug problems that hurt them in the late 90s. read more

This place is great for a child's birthday party. I've had plenty of fun here with my family. There aren't many roller skating places left, at least not in our area, so this is a good place for kids to go and have a good time and most importantly, stay out of trouble. The skating floor is a nice size so it isn't over crowded on most days. You could rent skates or bring your own. There is a simple food court there or you could hit up Tiffany's diner down the street. There is a diner right next door but I've never been. read more

It's a shame the area lacks roller skating rinks because they are fun! Very affordable and they seem to have deals all the time. Can get crowded but is still manageable at capacity. This is the only option for family skating in Philly as far as I am concerned. Other places are overcrowded and too rowdy for younger children. We visit the Palace about a dozen times a year and always have a blast. The music could use some variety, but it's tolerable. The staff can be a bit abrasive at times, especially the DJ. The constant reprimanding of skaters can be a damper on the mood, but it shows that they are serious about rules and safety. Overall, it's a fun experience and always worth the visit. read more

These days when kids are distracted by cell phones and other gadgets, it is always nice to reflect upon the good times had at Palace. In case you do not know (or care to know), Palace was initially an *ice* skating rink when it opened. Yeah, that's right! Then either in the late 70s or early 80s, it became a roller rink. Roller disco! I vividly recall going to Palace in 1983, skating to Culture Club, Duran Duran, and other artists of that era. Also, I had a birthday or two there back in the mid 80s. I remember that as a present, one kid gave me a game disk called 'Castle Wolfenstein' for my Commodore 64 computer. For those who have no clue what I just wrote, you may as well consult Wikipedia. The other thing about Palace was that it was a social activity and a safe one at that; you would go with your friends and also see kids from school there (Loesche, Baldi, Washington). Also, for the bold, it was an easy way to meet girls. I mean what is easier than going up to a girl and asking her if she would like to skate during couples skate? I am glad Palace is still in business; it serves as a rite of passage for kids who grow up in the NE and surrounding areas. Great place to go on a rainy day. I have been coming here for over twenty years. I used to go when I was a teenager and now my two children are enjoying the place. The price is right for the kids. The skates are old as day but they work good for the kids. My son had several birthday parties here and they are always fun. The kids get a choice of pizza or hot dog. The pizza is nothing to write home about but then you aren't here to eat. The decor of the place is cheerful and colorful for kids. The floors were newly carpeted and the walls colorful. The staff is very helpful and considerate. The skate guards are always willing to help the little ones get to safety if they fall. I will continue to take the kids to this special place as it is a delightful day out that isn't too expensive. read more

The rules are beyond absurd(ex. if you're under 18 you have to have on skates or you have to leave... nevermind the fact that there's an arcade here...) not only wold I not hold a children's party here, but I wouldn't come here on an adult night to skate, with the way he speaks to people! read more

I booked a party here for my son, this will be the last time i book a Party here. I was told my party was from 1-4:30. I arrived a little before 1 oclock to set up the table and i was told the table is being used i can come back. So i come back at 1:15 and was still rudely told i had to wait until the other party was over to set up mines by the so called manager SUE. So at 1:25 (5 min before party) i was aloud to set up. I told them i had a booked character and i was told that why would i book a character and not ask them first. So i said character is paid for can I please have him there, sue said she had to ask her boss so she comes back out and tells me that she would have to ask All other people that are having party's if they are ok with MY character being there. So fine 1:45 party starts, As my son is bringing in supplies he comes in with water bottles i prepared with name tags , one of the staffers tells sue " oh there bringing in water" like are you serious making comments about water bottles. Ughhh..So at 3:40 i was told by my server Melanie that she is waiting for me to check out because her cashier likes to leave earlyi looked at her and said so officially when is my table up, she says 4:00. So not only were the trying to have me check out early but they were rude from the beginning. My poor son had to rush and open his gifts because of the looks and the way my server was rushing me. I do not recommend throwing a party here for anyone. I was talked to by SUE very rudely, i was rushed by my server Melanie and they honestly had issues because I came early. I would love to complain to Sue"s boss or corporate for that matter. There is no need to be talked to in this manner, and then be rushed out. I took my 12 and 11 year old daughters for the 630 to 9pm skate. It was AWESOME! The admission and rental price was low, the place was bright and clean. the rentals were in great shape, everyone was friendly, all the skaters were well behaved (no foul language, no rough housing) and the snack bar was great! I've been here a couple of times for birthday parties. It was a lot of fun, espeacially the second time. The food was ok. The second time I fell and hurt my arm but it healed a few days later. My only problem was that there was a cockroach right where I was taking off my roller blades to put my shoes back on. I don't think that makes the place seem very clean. My parents aren't even allowing me to go back there because of that one cockroach. I hope you can solve the problem so I can have more fun times at palace. Ps: please renovate the place. The carpets look old, I heard that the bathrooms are awful, and the skates and blades need to be replaced. They are getting pretty old. Thanks! read more

Went on a Saturday afternoon for open skate. Their rentals are showing their age. Vending machines & pizza counter your standard quality. Music was decent. Bathrooms clean. There were a few birthday parties going while we were there snd it wasn't overcrowded. No backward skating unless they announce it. Great little kid skating on Saturday morning. Parents are able to walk on the floor while their kids skate. Very reasonable price!

I love the lighting and atmosphere, the kids love the arcade. Musically they seem to be stuck on early 80's hip hop, I would rather they were stuck on early 80's Dutch and German girl groups like LUV, A La Carte and Arabesque, But I guess that would be too good to be true.
