I really wanted to like this place. I like to give locally owned places in town a chance and I really hope they do well. I tend to favor them over the chain restaurants. After seeing all the great reviews and reading the nice review in the Des Moines Register Datebook, I thought this place was going to be good, but that was not the case. My husband and I were seated by a very unhappy looking waitress who absolutely looked like she didn't want to be there. Maybe it was a long day for her or she was having a bad day. Whatever the case, you should always greet your customers with a smile or at least make them feel welcome. So, right away we were put off when we walked in the door. Also, the floor was sticky in some spots. That was pretty gross. We split an order of pan-fried potstickers for an appetizer. I ordered a large bowl of beef pho and my husband ordered a large chicken pho. The potstickers were pretty good but not fried enough for our liking. They seemed like they were steamed and only fried for a few seconds; they were too soft. We like them pan-fried like the way they serve them in sushi restaurants, slightly tender and slightly crunchy. Both of our phos were very disappointing. The broth was bland and flavorless. Usually when we order pho we're rendered speechless and we both devour our phos and slurp every last yummy drop. But not this time. I didn't finish my soup or my noodles. They gave us way too many noodles so that there wasn't enough broth. My husband complained that his chicken was too tough. To their credit, they did give us a lot of green onions, bean sprouts, limes, basil and peppers. But that wasn't enough to save the pho. It didn't add much flavor to the soup. It surprises me how many different styles of pho broth there are in town. I think people who think this pho is good have never truly experienced really excellent pho. For the best pho in town, you really need to go to Vietnam Cafe (and don't disregard it just because it's in a mall). It's truly magical and it's the best. Saigon Cafe also has pretty good pho. I will say the decor is pretty nice in here and it doesn't look divey like most Asian restaurants. The food was great and unique for pho restaurants in town. The interior has a smaller dining area with booths and enough tables to accomodate groups. The variety of customers and dishes being served verified this has become a neighborhood favorite as well as place of traditional, authentic soup and salad offerings seeked out and enjoyed by Asians. The service was great. As a starter, the waitress suggested the calamari, but we had to try the egg rolls. Greasy and a little bland. I won't be ordering those again. I easily took down the large Pho Dac Biet and enjoyed the various cuts of beef and meatballs. I asked for rare beef on the side and shrimp paste which were obliged. It came with plenty of jalapeno peppers but no Thai chilis. Word is that there is a special slightly spicy, sweet hot sauce you can ask for. I didn't have the nerve this time :). No crushed red pepper oil on the table as some of us are used to. The combination Bun Saigon had a surprisingly nice shrimp ball thingy (sugarcane shrimp?) that was delicious and one of a kind. I asked about the $12 Bun Combination but the waitress had a hard time describing what was in it. "A little bit of everything" might be worth a try in the future. The papaya salad was not like the Laotian or Thai places in town. It was a more traditional salad with seafood. It doesn't need the sticky rice and the sauces are not fishy. Definitely worth a try but be warned it may not be what you expect similar to other papaya salads in town. The cafe su da was nice and strong. Pho was so good I ordered one to go! read more

The restaurant is packed with Asians - that's a good sign. The food is very good, and they have a pretty extensive menu- something for everyone. I've enjoyed the banh xeo (Vietnamese crepe with veggies and meat), spring rolls, and pho. They also offer bubble tea drinks. The most recent time, the spring rolls had pickled veggies in it, which was not something I was used to. It seemed premade because the wrapper was a little tough and the roll itself was pretty cold. The pho broth is a little on the fatty side, but it's flavorful. I appreciate how they know how to temper the pho- it doesn't get warm when I add my heaping portion of bean sprouts and jalapenos. The noodles are al dente initially, but at the end of the bowl, it is still not overcooked. The exterior and interior isn't much, but the food is consistently good. read more

I am here at least once a week. The pho is as authentic as it can it. It is slightly sweeter than how myself or my mom makes it but it just means less hoisin added by me. The broth is so flavorful. Their serving sizes are more than enough. The boba is the best I've had in Des Moines. Have not tried anything I didn't like here. I brought my family from Chicago here twice. Located in what must have been a fast food restaurant, Pho All Seasons delivers fresh Vietnamese. Specializing in Pho (go figure) it is very good and reasonably priced. I also ordered the fresh springs rolls that were pretty good. Service was fine and efficient. Food delivery was a little slow but I attribute that to take away and a Saturday night. The ambiance isn't date night worthy but for a seasoned couple it is a good choice for Vietnamese. read more

First off, really nice interior, very clean and relaxing. Second, cashier was very nice, helpful. They were very fast at making my food. I ordered a small chicken noodle soup and the signature combination fried rice. The small was actually a lot of soup! I ordered it to go so I added in all of what I actually wanted. It was fresh and delicious. The fried rice was also a giant portion. Definitely will have leftovers. It's full of flavor, nothing like any other fried rice I've had before. I'm just in Des Moines for a one day trip, this was one of the closest pho place near my destination. My dad and uncle had pho dac biet, and I had the mien ga. Each of our broth were so sweet. I had to put a few limes and I squirted sriracha into my broth and was trying to find some fish sauce but the restaurant didn't have any out on any tables. Didn't want to bother the people working there, so we just didn't ask them. Also there was too much nuoc beo (fatty content), my fault on that. Solid four stars. We were there for lunch on a Monday and they were slammed with customers. The service was friendly, but sparse. The food was wonderful. My husband had the shaking beef and it was nicely presented and really good. Four of us had pho and it was rich, but fresh, generous herbs and lime, and the meat was good quality. My son had several appetizers and liked the egg rolls, pot stickers, the All Seasons roll, and the wings. The only thing that didn't impress was the shrimp puff. I've had their takeout before when visiting family and it is always good. I would like a little more attention from the staff (napkins, app plates). The food is five stars. read more

Great experience. We were a little worried about trying it once we pulled up at 6:30pm & we were the only customers. We went in anyways, they had Chopped playing on tv! :) Egg rolls were DYN-O-MITE! Very flavorful & delicious. Ordered 3 Chicken pho's & all 3 people loved it! My daughter & I ordered the spring bowl (equivalent to Adong's 7c) but you can add a protein:) My daughter ordered shrimp, I ordered lemon grass chicken. Sauces were good. We will definitely be back! This is probably the fourth time I've been there. The first time for a to go order. Usually I dine in and for some reason they always mess up my order or forget about it. The food is tasty. Unfortunately I do not like their chicken and always tasted spoiled. That could also just be my opinion. Service here can be hit or miss (i.e. you can have a friendly interaction with your server one day and a more stoic interaction the next), but the reason you come to a family-run, hole-in-the-wall place like this is for the food. No other reason. That said, the food is outstanding. Everything I have tried...the best or near the best relative to any other Vietnamese restaurant I have been to in the DSM metro area. Ask for hot chili oil if you need to spice up your broth-otherwise, everything you need is at the table. Pho is to die for here-I get the seafood pho and I am in heaven, but I am sure they are all great. Appetizers are tasty and portions are very adequate.
