    PHO CENTRAL

A new addition to the Westend. It's a small venue with only a few tables to sit and enjoy their food. Great for take-aways in that respect. I must say, the customer service here is wonderful. Perhaps because it's so small but I genuinely enjoy going. They aren't pushy or ignore the people that walk in. It's a very comfy space. Quite good pho if you are interested in it. I had the vermicelli with lemongrass chicken and springrolls. I felt the rolls were undercooked but the chicken was very tasty. Chicken in curry sauce had a wee bit of a kick but also quite good. I must say, if you are a fan of lemongrass, they offer a plethora for you to choose from. inexpensive and filling. can't go wrong.

This is straight up the BEST spot for late dinners in Vancouver. Their home-style salad roll technique makes you drool. The pho is simply spectacular. The thin slices of beef pierce through your imagination with succulent flavours. No fake cactus club attitude. They honestly tell you their opinions on dishes instead of trying to sell you whatever dish you asked about. No dumb waiting for a hostess to be seated in an empty restaurant (hello cactus and the keg). Finding this place changed my opinion about dining downtown. Right now I'm planning to move to this area just to have this place around! 5/5 - For Folks who Want an Affordable and Exquisite Dining Experience

The small rare beef pho! The noodles were a little tougher than I'd like.

I wavered a bit on this one between three and four stars. Service is very friendly, the food is very affordable, and the interior is pretty good for a fairly inexpensive establishment. All good things! But while the food is fine, it isn't great. I got my basic order whenever I try a new Viet place - rare beef pho and deep fried spring rolls. The pho comes in small and regular sizes, which is a nice way to downsize your meal a bit; but while the broth is pretty good, the meat and noodles didn't seem to absorb much of the flavour, and ended up tasting a bit blander than I'd like. I also tend to prefer my noodles softer than these ones. Still, not bad; but I've had better. The spring rolls were a bit confusing. They're fairly small compared to some other places, and they're thick-shelled and tough. My first few bites were disappointing, but then I realized I should let each piece soak in the sauce a bit before eating it, and that made it better. Again - not bad, but not great. There's nothing outright wrong with this place, and I'll happily go back if a friend likes it and wants to go. But I wasn't left with a real desire to return on my own, either.

Pho Central is my go to place whenever I have a craving for a bowl of pho. I must say that I am a little biased here, since it was of the first Pho places I've been to many many many many years ago. They used to have a much smaller place across the street. Now, on to the food. I usually order the Pho Tai Nam, which is a mixture of beef brisket and lean slices of meat. The broth itself is very good, though it might be a little too salty for some. My friend usually drinks the entire bowl of broth, which makes me wonder how much sodium did he just take in. I did order the spring rolls, but I'm not too crazy over it. I'm sure there are better Pho's out there. But if you're in downtown or the West End and have some Pho or Vietnamese food cravings, you really can't go wrong here. It might not blow your socks off, but it definitely does not disappoint. PS: For those who do not like raw bean sprouts, you can get them to blanch them.

In a pricey area, easy on your bankroll. Great portions, two snack-sized offerings ($10) made for a good evening nosh. Be returning with guests.

    $5.50 veggie tofu salad rolls

Ordered the $5.50 veggie tofu salad rolls around 6:30PM on a Friday. The restaurant was nearly full and my order was ready in about 5 minutes. The takeout order consisted of a plastic carry bag, styrofoam clamshell container, two individually saran wrapped rolls, one larger sized peanut sauce, spoon, napkin. The rolls were had good proportions and were nicely assembled. The ingredients tasted refreshing and moist. Good portions of moist tofu ingredient well distributed throughout the rolls. Sauce had nice thicker consistency with mixed in peanut chunks. The peanut sauce was sweet with a subtle peanut flavour. The soso sauce paired well with the Tofu rolls. What the rolls lacked in portion size was offset by the cheaper price. Overall refreshing rolls with fresh tofu flavours. Sauce was just average and paired well with the rolls. Would recommend 3.5 out of 5 Ingredients: Rice pepper, rice noodles, lettuce, bean sprouts, tofu, peanut sauce Rolls 266g

Alright, let's break it down: Noodles 3/5 Standard rice noodles but a bit too soft and overcooked in my opinion. Broth 3/5 Flavourful and not oily but they overdid it on the MSG! I had to down 2 glasses of water when I got home. Beef Balls 4/5 Bouncy with no gristle (always a bonus) Extras 4/5 All the good fixings (no lemon for lime substitute BS here!) Spring Rolls 2/5 The non-standard ingredients caught our eye (taro, black mushroom) to try these bad boys but in the end they were over-fried and hard. Although they do use the extra crispy spring roll skin that I love, it couldn't save them from being less than mediocre. This was my first time being back since they've renovated and moved to this new space. I'm glad they've upgraded to the bigger space but I don't remember their broth being so packed with salt!

Compared 2 (2.5 star) pho places, literally right next door to each other, it came down to Pho Central having a website. Upon getting here, to our delight, there was a wait, so that was our first good sign. And just an FYI for you non-Canadians, they call fried egg rolls, "Spring rolls". Where as what I usually call "Spring rolls" in rice paper are called, "Salad Rolls"..weird. Either way, the fried eggs rolls weren't good, and were super doughy. The Pho Dac Biet (everything) was fantastic though. Also gave large servings of meat and tendon, etc. There was some inconsistency in service, where I believe that may be where the 2.5 stars stems from? Either way, delicious.

Finally made it to their renovated place since they moved across the street probably back in the summer, and much pleased b/c anything in comparison to the old one, which was a classic hole in the wall. And the fact that relative to ambience, seating comfortablility, plus ordering alcohol, thrusts this to a 4 star lol. It's a cool place to bring some friends.. I ordered the Special pho, which in a good and bad kind of way, had everything as the choices they gave you kinda limited you. For example, choosing option A meant rare beef and beef brisket but no meatballs....so option D would've included meatballs and rare (which i'm trying to stay away from) but no brisket...something to that effect as there were over 6 choices of 2 types of 'toppings', you get the pic, so what the hay, just ordered everything. The broth was good and didn't seem to have MSG, didn't feel thirsty. Liked the fact that later, she re-heated the sprouts & brought back more basil. Also tried their salad roll, which itself was good, bulky: packed w/ the usual goodness but lacked the thick peanut butter dip. Their version was much more liquid, almost like a soya sauce based...thank goodness had some minced peanuts. Lucky for me, service was good, but as the place got busier after I was the first to arrive 4:45pm, I could see the single server struggling. It's a long, much bigger place than before and almost feels a bit lounge-y with its booth, and central neon bar counter. the nicest washrooms yet @ a pho place lol. Extra star to me b/c I can work here w/ shaw wifi, comfortably. Food-wise, may be a notch below Pho Goodness next door but that's as cramped as can be, and lot noisier too.

Cali girl here *wave* I tried a bunch of different places but couldn't really say any was a favorite. I finally asked my nail tech what her favorite place was and she recommended Pho 37 and she was not wrong. Then I remembered that my nail tech will never leave me astray. I only had to try their pho once to know, THIS IS IT. Then I had to get their Bun Bo Hue, just tomake sure. The triple crown will be their Banh Mi, which I'm excited to try next but so far 5 stars all the way. Best Pho broth and the best Bun Bo Hue that I've found so far in the downtown Vancouver area. I'm sure as you fan outside of the city limits that there are just as good options but I've finally found my go to spot close to work and home after 3 months of living here. A plus plus is the huge portions but I also have to commend the meat to noodle ratio is just perfect. This is a cute little spot on Robson. Don't sleep on this one, ladies and gents. Dine in or dining out, don't forget to ask for the chilli garlic oil and garlic vinegar on the side. These condiments will level up any dish!

The only small issue was that it took a little while before someone came to take my order, and I eventually had to wave someone over. It wasn't a big deal, though, especially considering how busy they were. The portions here are huge, especially for the price. The broth was a little sweeter than I personally prefer, but it was very clean, clear, and flavorful. This is what I look for in a good bowl of pho. The noodles were cooked perfectly and had a nice soft texture. I ordered a combination bowl. My only suggestion would be a bit more of tripe and tendon. The tripe was a little sparse, and I honestly didn't realize I had tendon until I was almost finished with the bowl. But I like those, and not a lot of people do. Despite the restaurant being packed, the staff was stayed attentive, kept food coming out quickly, and did a great job taking care of everyone. The atmosphere was casual and welcoming. There was a nice mix of people. Some quietly watching videos on their phones, others catching up over conversation. It felt like the kind of neighborhood spot that attracts everyone. Overall, this is a convenient, affordable place with good pho and generous portions. If I'm in the area again, I'd definitely come back. .

Went in for lunch with my granddaughter, both of us fans of Vietnamese food. Ordered Green Papaya Salad ($12), Lemongrass Chicken on Vermicelli with one spring roll ($17), one lime soda ($6.50) and one pop ($3). Food arrived within minutes of ordering. Portions were very generous. The salad was perfect with everything very fresh, as it should be but often isn't in some places. Plump prawns and the scent and taste of basil was prominent. Delicious! The lemongrass chicken (we ordered extra chicken) with a spring roll was also very generous. We did not finish it between the two of us. Again, all was fresh, tasty and hot. This is one of our standard orders and Pho Goodness did not disappoint. Granddaughter declared it better than at our regular favourite, and Pho Goodness is around the corner from her home and not a bus ride out to Kingsway! Service was friendly and responsive. We asked that the volume be turned off on the massive TV over our heads (which nobody was watching) (it was), requested a glass for the pop and immediately received a tumbler full of ice. Lovely. We have found a new favourite on Davie Street, a true foodie heaven with a collection of independent restaurants of many ethnicities available. We will return to Pho Goodness when the urge for Vietnamese food strikes again.

The rain had settled into that familiar Vancouver rhythm, steady and soft, turning the streets into mirrors beneath the city lights. Inside, everything felt worlds away. Gentle lighting washed over the clean, calm interior, and for a moment, the noise of the wet evening seemed to fall away. It was the kind of quiet exhale you only notice after stepping out of the cold. The curry laksa arrived first, a vibrant bowl of yellow curry filled with broccoli, cauliflower, bok choy, vegan shrimp, kale noodles, mushrooms, and coconut milk. Against the grey evening outside, its golden broth looked almost sunlit. It was a dish that seemed perfectly suited to the night, the kind of steaming bowl you imagine wrapping your hands around while rain taps against the windows. The broth was a little watery, but it still carried that small, familiar embrace you reach for on a wet night. The laksa is a dish so many seem to praise, and at first glance, it was easy to understand why. The bright curry, generous vegetables, and colourful ingredients made it look hopeful and inviting. But as we worked our way through the bowl, the balance began to feel a little off. There was considerably more soup than noodles, leaving the dish feeling lighter than expected. The broccoli and cauliflower also had that unmistakable frozen texture, which took away some of the freshness I was hoping for. It wasn't bad, but it felt muted. Like a song that should have been louder, this was a laksa that seemed to have lost a little of its spark somewhere between the kitchen and the table. Then came the smoked eggplant, and suddenly the evening took a more interesting turn. An entire eggplant arrived at the table, beautifully tender and deeply smoky, almost reminiscent of the aroma of a prized cigar. It was topped with Impossible meat, peanuts, salino, and dried shallot, creating a mixture of textures that made every bite feel a little different. The eggplant practically collapsed beneath the fork, its smoky flesh contrasting with the savoury meat and the little bursts of crunch from the peanuts and shallot. The menu mentioned a pineapple sauce, although if it was there, it had quietly disappeared into the background. I couldn't really find it beneath the other flavours. Even so, the eggplant itself had enough character to hold my attention. And then, almost as if the restaurant wanted to remind us exactly why we had come, the Hestia Saffron Curry arrived. This was the moment everything came together. Thick, fragrant, and unapologetically flavourful, the curry carried the kind of warmth that seems to travel beyond the bowl. The saffron shavings melted into the sauce, leaving behind a rich golden colour and an aroma that immediately drew us closer. Beside it sat a little pot of sticky rice, almost ceremonial in its presentation, waiting to be folded into the curry. The sauce clung beautifully to the rice, rich without feeling overwhelming, and each bite brought another layer of fragrance and warmth. There was something deeply comforting about it, the sort of food that doesn't simply fill you up but makes you slow down for a moment. Of everything we ordered that evening, this was easily the standout. Even the space itself seemed to understand the mood. The lighting was thoughtful and warm, the service was friendly, and the menu was broad enough to make you curious about what might be waiting on a future visit. As someone who isn't vegan, I don't often leave a plant-based meal feeling genuinely, completely satisfied. This time, I did. Not just full, but warm in that particular way a good meal can make you feel on a cold night. Eventually, we stepped back outside into the Vancouver rain. The pavement shimmered beneath the festival lights, umbrellas drifted past like dark little sails, and the glow of Lumiere waited somewhere ahead. The cold returned almost immediately, but the warmth of dinner lingered. Walking toward the lights, I found myself thinking less about the dishes that missed the mark and more about that saffron curry, the smoky eggplant, and the feeling of having found a little pocket of warmth on a wet Vancouver evening. Sometimes, that's exactly what you hope a restaurant will give you.

The Garden Rolls were absolutely the #1 worst ones we've ever eaten! We've had hundreds of fresh rolls at dozens of places and sadly, none were as tasteless as these. They consisted of noodles, a bit of flavorless tofu and cucumber. Fresh rolls MUST have at least one or more of the following: fresh mint, fresh cilantro or fresh Thai Basil. Hestia's had NONE!. To add insult to injury, the watery sauce also had NO flavor. To add more insult, they were baggy and poorly wrapped and the innards kept falling out. Not fun and definitely not good. The king oyster mushrooms were very good, but there was a ton of pink mayo dousing it. I would have preferred the sauce be in a separate bowl so we could choose how much dipping we'd like to do. The saffron tofu bowl was sensational! Perfectly spiced and full of a huge variety of well-cooked veggies plus the saffron rice was good too. No one came during our meal to ask if we needed anything or to ask how our meal was. The customer service is in need of some work.
