I needed some delivery lunch, so decided to go with their veggie pho ($15 plus tax, fees, etc.). Despite being told it'd take 40-50 minutes, it took over 90 minutes for my pho to arrive. Once it did, the soup was luke warm and the noodles all stuck together since they were packaged separately. Everyone has their own way of making their broth soup. This wasn't mom cooking but it was okay. Very small tight place. Food is ordered at the counter and paid for. Then the lady will deliver your food to the table. My beef stew could of used more seasonings but it was comforting food. Seafood had a clear broth soup looked bland but to my surprise it had some flavor. Bowl was perfectly enough to fill you up. I often pass by this place and was curious, so I stopped in for dinner. It was empty except for occasional takeout when I showed up around 7, but I know I've seen it busier earlier in the day. The restaurant looks like a hole in the wall, but it was very very clean. Ordered the Veggie Pho and a Jackfruit Smoothie. The woman at the front was super nice and my food was ready quickly. The pho broth wasn't the most flavourful on its own, but the tofu was seasoned very nicely. There were lots of vegetables and everything seemed very fresh. It was decidedly NOT oily at all, which I really appreciated. The bowl was huge - I got pretty close to finishing both the pho and the smoothie but had to leave just a little bit of both, and I was super full. The smoothie was really good! Very vibrant flavour. Overall this was just about exactly what I was looking for: a quick and simple, healthy meal, and warm atmosphere. It's also pretty good value: $13.8 pho, $4.5 smoothie. This is how things work here: 1. Walk straight to the cashier, order and pay in advance 2. Grab a seat and they will bring you your food The restaurant is small but clean and efficient. It was fairly quiet because most people were busy eating delicious noodles. :D I tried both the chicken pho and veggie pho. The quantity of the noodle is not huge so it's a good portion for lunch. The noodle texture was chewy and fresh, which was a good surprise to me. Don't expect large pieces of chicken though. This is mostly noodles. The broth is not too salty or sweet. The soup comes out hot enough to cook all the bean sprouts. The only bad part is that the carrots' texture was all wrong, kind of gross actually. I think they use frozen carrots. Oh and there's only sriracha at the table, no chili oil. The veggie spring rolls were not so good. It felt heavy and greasy, and I felt like they fried it in a general pot of oil that they use to fry other meats because the taste was a bit "mixed" and not in a good way. We also tried the grilled chicken and grilled beef baguettes one evening. The baguettes are quite big and satisfying. There is not much meat in it, but then each baguette is under $5 so you get what you pay for. The sauce on top of the meat is sweet and spicy. One of the best hidden gems in the city. Great food loved the spring rolls and sandwiches here. Phõ is wicked too - a must try.

My friend insisted to come here for lunch as we were in the neighbourhood. I was not sure why she loved this Vietnamese restaurant so much as there were so many other options in downtown. Anyway, this was my second time here. I had pho last time, so I tried their combo (siu mai baguette and iced Vietnamese coffee) the baguette was crispy outside and soft inside but the sandwich was so light as a whole that I felt like I ate something but I was not full. Keep in mind that I am a small person but I still felt my stomach was not full by eating the baguette along with the iced Vietnamese coffee. The interior design is ok but not great. The service was okay. We ordered the food at the cashier and a server would bring the food to our table. I hope that I would not have to go back to this Vietnamese restaurant if my friend wantsto eat Vietnamese food again. ;-) read more

One Saigon is a cute little joint on Hornby and a great easy go-to when you're in the downtown core. My mom and I were heading to see an early movie so we just wanted a quick bite. I love pho so I suggested this place as it's super close to the theatre. We went up to order our two rare beef pho #18. They brought out a big plate of sprouts, and Thai basil. They were missing lime which was unfortunate because I love it in my pho. The broth was delicious and they gave lots of beef! Purchased one $3.60 tofu salad roll 5:30pm on a weekday. Restaurant was half full and my order was ready in under 5 minutes. This establishment can be described as a small, Vietnamese style hole in the wall. Takeout items consisted of styrofoam clamshell container, one roll halved, one peanut sauce, napkin. The rolls offered a good balance of flavours and the inclusion of mint was welcomed. The key ingredient tofu was lacking. The rolls were fresh and paired well with the dipping sauce. The peanut sauce was dark and sweet with small crunchy peanut pieces. The sauce offered a nice consistency for dipping but the peanut flavor was lacking. One Saigon is one of my go-to spots for lunch on a busy work day. It is easy to call in an order or to order online. It usually takes 15 minutes for the restaurant to prepare the food. My regular order is the rice dish with lemongrass chicken and spring rolls. They are both very well done. The restaurant provides a decent portion of sauce to pour over the chicken and dip the spring rolls in. It's a great taste of home. I have been trying to try a new third side every time. We live less then a block from here. Its cheap and fast. My bf wasn't feeling too good and had been running around all day and was not in the mood to cook or eat at Tim Horton's which is the other fast food alternative on the block. He went to the website and checked the hours. It was 840 and the website hours said open until 9 pm. He called down to order and asked to place a pick up order. He was told that they had already done last call for food. He explained that all he wanted was the bbq pork baguette. She said "we're closed" and hung up. The younger girl who works the counter (who appears to be the owners daughter) is consistently rude. She never smiles. She acts like she is doing you a huge favor. My bf called back and same girl answered. He said "hi i was just on the line with you " to which her reply was "CLICK" hanging up once again. He called back only to get a busy signal. He tried again a few mins later to speak to the owners and got the busy signal again. This is not cool. There was plenty of time to throw together a sandwich which normally when we order from there takes under 5 mins. We usually have to order it with double meat or double vegetables, but the end result is pretty good. The younger male who works here is always rather pleasant so it was unfortunate we never got him. This little gem is hide away around hornby and Nelson at Downtown Vancouver area. I always love beef strew soup and I ordered one. Instead of almost like tomato curry style strew both ( which I also enjoy)... This soup is well balanced in favour and not overly power in taste. I guess it's Saigon taste. The beef was sooo tender and it melts in your mouth! You don't even have to chew much! I love Vietnamese Pho. However, I found most rice noodle from Pho place have a taste that I don't really like! And I did not taste that at this place!! Beside all I had to say the price is pretty good! They also have ice coffee& Vietnamese sandwich for pretty good price! The ice coffee is amazing!! When choosing a dining experience by the Law Courts to each lunch or just something different than the usual fare, One Saigon is definitely enticing. There's a few downtown but is completely outnumbered by sushi places by some ridiculous number like 30 to 1. Crazy, huh? The place is clean and offers your standard Vietnamese baguettes, pho and vermicelli dishes. I ordered a lemongrass chicken and springroll on vermicelli dish. It was missing the usual bean sprouts and peanuts. Quite peculiar. In it's place was more vermicelli. The flavour of everything was ho-hum. I've had better downtown and especially east van. If you are craving this type of dining experience downtown, head on over to Davie or Denman for a better Vietnamese food. I paid up front and sat down and had my food very quick, which was great. Everything that I ordered was good, nothing special. This tiny place on Hornby could be a lot better. They have good specials and at first glance, the pricing seems about right. The menu has the usual Vietnamese fare allows you to customize your meal with either two or three toppings on top of rice or vermicelli. Unfortunately I found that the preparation and presentation to be a little sloppy. The lemongrass chicken was thin and grey. The skin was soggy with no crispiness at all. I had to discard all of the skin. My fried egg's yolk was broken wide open and overcooked and did not present well. In addition, the portion was small. They skimped on the chicken and even the rice. Just a narrow hole in the wall, mom and pop kinda place that gets passed by probably hundreds of times.... but not this time. It's not overly furnished, yet quaint and comfortably clean. The counter person (probably the owner, or owners wife) very friendly and helpful. You place your order at the counter, pay, and she brings it to your table if you're dining in. If there was one thing that I've always wanted to try.... it's "Beef Stew Pho" On this cold rainy day, it was a welcomed sight, a bowl of steaming hot noodles! Although I've never had this dish before I thought the broth was wonderful, a cross between the tasty pho broth I'm used to, and a hearty beef stew gravy. I could taste the Asian basil, cilantro with their earthy sweetness, and also the rich beefy flavor of something like an Ox Tail stew. The vermicelli noodles were perfect al dente with just the right amount of chew. Big chunks of meat, and topped off with a handful of raw bean sprout just to give everything a little crunch. And since this is my first "Beef Stew Pho" experience, it's hands down the best! I may not return here again but I'll always remember where I had it first. read more

OK, I have been picking up my lunch from here so often lately and I'm loving them! So much so that I have befriended the lovely folk of One Saigon. It seems to be a small family business. They have daily specials, ie: Monday - Baguette & Pop; Thursday - Shrimp Salad Rolls & Pop, etc. It's really good if you'd like a meal and a drink together. Normally, I'd just get the items separately. The Shrimp Salad Rolls are standard here, which is good. It's $3.60 per roll -- I think it's quite fair compared to the other places around downtown. Everything else is also quite fair in pricing. Their beef soup is tasty but unfortunately, not my favourite. They only have a very small space so, not much seating is available. It's usually quite full at lunch time between noon and 1pm. Opt for take-out if you can during lunch. Other times, it's lovely to just get away and sit by yourself in this little place for a nice, quiet meal. read more

Go and eat when hungry for basic Vietnamese like Pho, the cold spring roll noodle thing and other staples like that. Really, it's a rule to be followed at all take out-y places like this. Stick to the country's most famously recognized dish. Don't get adventurous, don't have expectations to the moon. Keep It Simple, Stupid. Bare bone furnishings. Great for quick lunch breaks, fast dinner when you're tired and starving, also excellent option for solo dining and not feeling like a loser. Not for date night. A coworker recommended this place for lunch, so we took a stroll down the street to check it out. There wasn't a whole heck of a lot for me to eat, but they did have a veggie baguette, so that's what I went for. My partner in crime got a wrap instead (they can make the baguettes into wraps for fiddy cents cheaper), but the wraps come out awfully small. I was a little worried she would be hungry again in an hour, at least with the baguette, the bread makes it look a bit bigger than it is, even though its really just filler. The place is small and not very busy (which should always be a sign, since most places downtown get smokin crazy during lunch hours). And the front counter looked more like a cheasey faux-leather bar stand than a place to put in an order for lunch. One Saigon is right near my work and has become a regular lunch spot. The first time I visited, I ordered two chicken fresh salad rolls. These tasted fresh but were very light on the chicken - I'm not sure that I'd order them again. The baguettes, however, are fantastic. I've tried the chicken and pork and both are delicious - very fresh baguettes, lots of salad, coriander and some jalapeno - and much more generous with the meats. The service is quick and friendly and the prices are excellent ($5 including tax for a baguette). It's definitely my favourite lunch spot! read more
