Food was great, cheap and plentiful. Right in old katy, great atmosphere and service.

When you are sick and tired and the weather is cold, you know a bowl of pho would be perfect. I picked Pho Guru because I drove by and saw a pho restaurant in this area, which made me curious to try it. We dined in for lunch. At first it was just us and one other table, but not long after, more people started coming in, probably for lunch as well. The restaurant is pretty large, with both tables and booths, plus a big table for large groups. This is what we ordered: Combo Rolls This comes as a sampler with five different types of spring rolls. Regular spring rolls, nem nuong rolls (fermented grilled pork), grilled chicken, grilled pork, and shrimp only. I really liked this idea because it lets you try everything without having to order each roll separately. My favorite was the nem nuong roll. Bun Bo Hue I do not eat pork blood or pork loaf, so I substituted them with more tendon and beef meatballs. Because of that, I cannot really comment on how the pork tasted. The broth was okay but a little lacking in flavor. After I asked for shrimp paste, it tasted much better. Bo Kho (Beef Stew) This is my husband favorite dish, so he always orders it whenever a place has it. He ordered the one come with bread as dipping. He did not really like this one. It was not bad, but not great either. The flavor was missing, and the broth was more watered down than how he prefers it. Still, it is worth trying if you like beef stew. Overall, our experience was just okay. The service was fine, but the food did not leave a strong impression on us. We did not stay long since my husband had to get back to work. I would come back to try more dishes, especially pho. Since their name is Pho Guru, I feel like the pho might be better. I stopped by for dinner since I was in the area and had their pho for the first time the other night. The location had ample parking and the interior was spacious and open. Service was prompt and quasi friendly. I thought the broth was good despite having an overwhelming aroma of cinnamon. I requested for pho tuoi (fresh noodles) which are slightly bigger than the standard noodles they give you. However, I regretted this choice because many of my noodles were clumped together, distracting from the overall enjoyment of the meal. Additionally, I think there's a heavy usage of MSG in their broth because I felt loopy and very thirsty for water halfway through. Needless to say, I was only able to eat half of the generous serving. For those who are a fan of pho and appreciate generous portions, this place is definitely worth a visit. Their pho bowls are substantially larger than those I've encountered elsewhere, offering a potentially satisfying experience for the more voracious diner but for me, quantity is not enough of a reason to become a regular. Love having a local pho spot so close to home! Staff was very attentive and helpful. Inside decor was clean, well-lit, and modern. Lots of real poinsettias lining the restaurant makes it lively and colorful. We ordered the baby eggrolls which come with 10 pieces. They were freshly fried and juicy inside. Then ordered 2 bowls of pho with brisket, beef flank and meatballs. The broth was clean and well seasoned. One size option but it was plenty and we left stuffed! I had high hopes that this place would become a favorite, since it is so close to where I live and work. I consider myself a vermicelli connoisseur, and really, the vegetarian version is hard to get wrong. However, this one missed the mark. The veggies were a bit soggy, and the fried tofu was overcooked. They swapped mint for the traditional cilantro, and the fish sauce had zero spice or flavor. Stopped by a little after lunch time to find it not so busy which was nice. The inside is your typical pho place, nothing special about the decor. Service was prompt and attentive. I ordered prawn spring rolls and a grilled chicken vermicelli bowl. I truly enjoyed my entire meal here. Spring rolls were fresh, peanut sauce was warm and delicious. My vermicelli bowl took a little while to come out and sure enough, my chicken was freshly cooked. I could still smell the deliciousness coming my way. **Racist establishment ** Sat down with a coworker, ordered at the same time on one bill. Her food came out in 5 minutes--mine never came. I waited 20 minutes before approaching the server to be told they "forgot." That explanation doesn't add up. The noodles were cooked to near perfection, just needed to be a little more al dente. The broth was piping hot and delicious, full of sticky collagen from the many hours of simmering beef bones. The soup did not overwhelm with too much spice seasonings, fragrance, but does give you dry mouth from a little too much MSG and sodium. Please change the recipe ever so slightly, so that customers aren't super sleepy or thirst post-meal. They offer pickled onions and hanh tran nuoc beo (fatty soup with green onions)! The customer service was friendly, but you could tell they're still in a soft opening phase. The booths were a bit dirty between the crevices, so we'll sit at the tables next visit. We have ate here twice now. Service is good . Ambience is nice and open quiet ( see pics.) . Gobbled down their PHO . Added their chili above average . All their food tasted good first time and the second. But noticed the PHO broth lacked that deep Umami flavor this time around. Then afterwards- we both got a nasty MSG reaction . Other reviewer have noted such also. MSG is banned in baby food throughout EUROPE. I wonder why ? If you are NOT sensitive to MSG gobble it down. We ordered door dash from Pho Guru. I was really looking for traditional cha gio with rice paper and this was the only place I could find it. Food came hot as it wasn't that far away. Loved everything we got, grilled chicken vermicelli, mini cha gio (they're MINI! Like 1in long. Super delicious, but way tiny!) they're the only ones I've found that are actually made with rice paper, the way I grew up with it, instead of lumpia wraps. Just wish they were bigger, like half eggroll size. We also ordered the charsui fried rice, only critique I'd have is leave out the corn, never seen it that way, that was weird and unnecessary. It did take me back to my childhood though, I've not had char sui in fried rice since I was young! Lastly the Pho with rare meat and brisket. Very good! Loved how the broth came separate for you to add so your noodles weren't soggy and overdone. Overall it was an A+, even delivered. Eggrolls were mostly crunchy still, a few were soft, but it is packaged with lettuce. I do wish the lettuce pieces were bigger enough to wrap the cha gio and not shredded. Definitely missed the sweet seasoned rice vinegar dip with chili flakes, which is actually more like the sauce for the vermicelli. But these are all critiques, not complaints. We are so excited to have a good Vietnamese restaurant right near our home! We ordered the mini egg rolls as an appetizer and it came out so fresh and hot. The egg rolls were tasty and had a good crunch to it. The pho was so good! I got the brisket and beef meatballs with mine. The broth was very hot when it came out which is important to me. The flavor of the broth was very tasty and the broth itself was clean instead of foggy looking like at some other restaurants. The staff were nice and polite. The establishment as a whole was decent. However, I wanted to dine in and eat. My order came out to go. No big deal at all. They brought me a bowl so I can assemble it all together. I wasn't bothered by that because I'm pretty chill. But then the broth wasn't steaming hot so that the meat could cook properly. So I asked if they could heat it up for me. Again, it wasn't steaming like it should. So I gave it a shot and nope it wasn't good. To add the pork spring rolls had a weird taste to them. The only good thing was the can of sprite. It was cold like it should be. All in all it wasn't a pleasant visit. Will I return? Nope. $27 gone and a lunch break wasted. Spring rolls with avocado, and the meat was completely un edible just filled with gristle couldn't even chew it or swallow it and then I gotta order the crab Rangoon's, which are the skinniest driest thing I've ever put in my mouth, but the coffee was good., I tried this restaurant as a new restaurant from DoorDash. I've been craving this food and I wasn't able to eat any of it. Please close your doors so you don't do this to anyone else that's having a bad day. I love the spring roll combo and the roast pork banh mi- so delicious and not common to find. I love spring rolls and I love different flavors so it's great to have a spring roll order with five different flavors. Highly recommend this place. We also got the regular pho and the chicken pho. The pho is really good. I can tell it's homemade and they don't use premade seasoning which will usually come from using a lot of pre-made seasoning. Pho is definitely personal preference but their broth is clear and lighter. The meat was really tender as well and they give a lot. The staff were really nice as well. My husband had the guru banh mi and he liked it. He said the meat was well flavored and the bread was soft and a little crispy. The only thing I wish is that they had a smaller size available because the portion was big. It would be helpful if they wrote what was in each pho/banh mi, but overall I will be a regular here! read more

We moved here a little over 3 years ago. In that time we have tried as many places that serve banh mi as we could find. This has been the best banh mi we have had since moving to TX! My wife and I both got the grilled pork banh mi and my wife also got the pork spring rolls with shrimp. My wife said the spring rolls were very good and we both think the banh mi here is delicious! The vermicelli was OK but I found the banh mi to be a very small portion compared to other banh mis in the area and the bread to be very crumby, almost tasting stale. There were a couple different meat options available, I got the classic pork and was underwhelmed by the seasoning. That being said, the interior was beautiful and the service was good. However the bathroom sink was a very high pressure which splashed all over me and the soap dispenser shot out soap at a weird angle that ended up on my blazer. All in all I think they were newer and maybe this was just growing pains typical with a new business but I don't think I would return. read more

The mini egg roll weren't crispy enough. My daughter liked the grilled pork platter but most Vietnamese or Thai restaurants include a steamed veggie with their platters, and this just had meat and rice and a little pickled veggie. Food was really good. Our second time going to this restaurant. First time was a couple months ago. Service was great, wait staff very attentive. This time service was really lacking. The girl who took our order was very nice but after bringing the food to us she never came around. The young man sat at the register and never assisted us and we were the only patrons in the restaurant the whole time we were there. My boyfriend and I always love to try new pho places especially since I move so often, and this place definitely has one of the best broth flavors we have tried. The filet mignon pho is very tender and flavorful, each appetizer we have tried (tofu and pork spring rolls, and the shrimp rolls) are always made fresh and a good size for the price.
