It's a rainy night in London. Just left the office and I am starving. One of my local office peers recommended Pho as I was craving southeast Asian food. Being southeast Asian I grew up eating pho. I make it regularly at home. The restaurant is located on the first floor of a shopping centre. It is a smaller restaurant with seats outside in the mall area and some in the interior. There were only two servers that were also host. The restaurant was not busy but it took awhile to get seated and then when I was finally seated it took quite a bit of time to get someone to come and take my order. I ordered the fresh spring rolls with prawn and the combination pho. The pho came out before the spring rolls. The fresh prawns spring rolls were average with small prawns. You get two with your order. The pho broth was very greasy and not very flavorful. I would have expected to have hints of anise and cinnamon. I need parts for the strangest texture. It was more at like an American or Italian meatball then a proper Vietnamese style meatball. Even the type of steak and brisket that was used was very strange. It was like a pulled beef brisket which is much different from actual beef tenderloin. The vegetables that came with your pho was not very fresh and pretty wilty. Overall disappointing. read more

Pho without the fuss! I 'discovered' One New Change last week on a random walk through The City and I returned again last week for a spot of holiday shopping. Before getting my shop on, my boyfriend and I wandered into Pho with a craving for Vietnamese. We love the Vietnamese restaurants on Kingsland Road, but this is much less of a trek for us. Like the other restaurants at One New Change, Pho is shiny and new. There's a rustic 'you're in Hanoi' feel, but it's still very clear that you're sitting in the middle of a shopping mall (not that there's anything wrong with that). Onto the menu . . . I'm not an expert in Vietnamese cuisine, so I appreciated the simple, straightforward menu. I ordered the beef pho and my boyfriend got fried noodles with beef. The waiter offered me a bib, which I found slightly embarrassing, because Pho is a 'splashy dish' (his words, not mine). The food came out promptly and my pho was in fact quite splashy. The beef was great, the broth was good, and the rest was fine. My boyfriend's fried noodles were tasty and satisfying. Pho ticks all the boxes, but it won't blow you away. That being said, it's a pretty great option to have in One New Change. I went on a weekend and it was practically empty. The service was impeccable and I'll definitely be back. read more

I stumble upon this place when I was walking around in this area. The interior of this restaurant really makes you want to go in, me and my company really enjoyed the look of the restaurant while we waited for the food. Pho has a really nice lunch deal £10 for starter+main or main+dessert. The summer rolls with shrimp was good, tasted like homemade and I really enjoyed. The Pho with brisket I ordered was completely average though but since I was craving for pho it did its job. If you are craving for Pho or want something fast then this is a good place, you wont complain but you wont remember it either. read more

BEWARE! Credit card fraud. We ate here during our London vacation in early August. When the bill arrived, I paid with my credit card and got a payment confirmation on my phone in my credit card provider's app. However, the waiter claimed that he had cancelled the transaction by mistake, so I would have to pay again. He handed me a cancellation receipt as proof that "the money would be refunded within a few days". I believed him, so I paid a second time. Having returned from my vacation, I found out that I was actually charged for both transactions. An attempt to contact Pho St. Paul's via e-mail remained unanswered. Today, almost two months later, I am still fighting with my credit card company to get the money for the fraudulent transaction back. :-( read more

I ordered vermicelli noodles in crab broth with steak & tofu and also added on the beef meatballs. The brisket was tender and the meatballs juicy. Unlike other reviewers I actually liked the broth but I spiced it up quite a bit to my liking. I wasn't too keen on the bread they put in the soup but everything had great flavors and the toppings were very fresh. I'd certainly come back here next time I'm in Cheapside. read more

When my date suggested meeting at St Paul's on a Saturday for a let lunch, I was like why would we meet somewhere so dead on a weekend. But boy oh boy I'm glad we did. He took me to Pho, he works in the area and raves about the place. It was mid afternoon, and the shopping mall was super quiet, as was the restaurant, which was nice. The restaurant has a street feel to it. The walls are lined with palette's , and the lights have really long dangly cords, making it feel like you're actually in Asia. (too many things plugged in to one socket, how they don't electrocute themselves in those countries is beyond me, not this place is super safe, lol) We ordered some starters, rice paper rolls and lime squid. The service was super fast, and we had our starters in no time. The rice paper rolls came with sweet chili sauce and a peanut sauce, both were equally delicious. And the squid was super tender, and not chewy. I highly recommend both of those dishes. I ordered the Xao for my main. It was served with rice, pickled vegetables and collard greens. The ginger was really strong in the dish, although not over powering. I felt super satisfied after the meal, but not stuffed full and bloated. We topped off the lunch with coffee. As I'm lactose intolerant, I had mine black. However my date had his with condensed milk, and I was so jealous, it looked and smelt amazing. And they serve the coffees in tiny filter cups on the table, so you can watch the coffee filter down into the cup. The coffee itself was so smooth, and absolutely devine. I would definitely go back, and although I'm sure its still the same amazing experience during a weekday lunch, I quite liked the atmosphere during the weekended. read more

One of a number of dependable chains in this shopping centre, and like all the others is also packed with city-worker hordes come lunchtime! A colleague and I popped over for lunch yesterday and at 12.10pm we'd just missed the chance to sit at the normal restaurant tables at the back and instead took higher seats at the long communal raised tables. The food was tasty enough and the ingredients nicely fresh - we enjoyed sharing spring rolls to start. My wok-fried noodles main was a little bland for me, but tasted much better once I added the peanutty sauce left over from the starters! My colleague had an unfortunate experience though; she'd asked for added pork balls in her noodle soup which turned out to be beef, which she doesn't eat. It took a while to flag down our server to tell him and all we got was essentially a shrug. He asked if she wanted a fresh bowl but having already gotten halfway through it and not wanting to wait again, she just asked for new balls. He took her bowl away and returned with pork balls added. That was it. Sure it rectified the mistake but I guess I'd expected at least a proper apology and some sign they were taking it seriously (imagine if she'd been allergic!) - not to mention perhaps they could've given her the £1.75 add-on pork balls for free?! I'll probably return regardless for convenience as it's a reliably speedy eat near my office. Though they do seem to be focusing on getting people in and out as fast as possible during the busy weekday lunch rush - I just hope they don't lose too much of the personal touch and customer attention as they do so... read more

My first visit to Pho and I have to say I was very impressed. I've only had Vietnamese food once before and I found it to be like eating a bowl of luke warm dirty dish water with a few noodles, bean sprouts and canned dog food meat floating in it. I obviously had gone to the wrong place. After my first experience I was hesitant about going to Pho but the reviews on yelp tempted me to give it a go. My boyfriend had spent three weeks in Vietnam a few years ago and loved the food so really wanted to try Pho. It was busy but not packed. The tables were a little close together but overall the place had a good atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful. We ordered pork spring rolls, pho bo combo, chicken bun and some drinks. The reviews about the spring rolls were not wrong. I would eat those everyday if I could and I'll visit Pho again even if it was just for the spring rolls. We had the pork ones and there was a veggie one with my main. Little parcels of crispy deliciousness! The food was all so tasty and I loved how it was presented and allows you put in your own herbs and sauce to taste. The Pho Bo Combo was packed with really tasty and tender meat and there was no similarity to the dirty dish water I'd had elsewhere. My boyfriend was very impressed and although it wasn't quite as good as the genuine thing in Vietnam, he did say it came close and was the best he'd had anywhere outside of Vietnam. I'll definitely be more open to Vietnamese food now and won't hesitate to visit a branch of Pho in the near future. read more

WHAT I LOVED: Service - Fantastic. The server was very thorough with the menu, recommending juices and explaining food items. Warm and friendly is always a plus too! Location - Don't let the address fool you. It's considered Cheapside apparently, but is conveniently located on the 1st Floor of the One New Change building! Google Maps told me to go to Bank station and walk, but St Pauls is literally right across the street. Decor - Beautiful. Hardwood, brown sort of rustic feel throughout, but still modern and chic with the whole upscale, trendy shabang. Definitely a great vibe. Ambience - Chilled and relaxed, but still nice. I came during the lunch rush so I'm assuming it's not always that busy, but it has a vibe where you could come and meet friends and just kinda chill out and enjoy lunch; but also get in and out quickly if need be. Food - #NomNom Delicious! I tried the Banh Mi sandwiches (Pulled Pork, Deep Fried Pork) with tumeric, etc.. Both great! Their fresh juices are also amazing! I'm an avid juicer so you have to sort of win me over with the flavour combos. I tried the Apple and Mint juice! It was absolutely delicious. OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH: Nothing restaurant wise. I'd say just to include somewhere in the address description that they are in the One New Change building. I do enjoy Pho. This was my first time at the Cheapside / St Paul's branch and it did not disappoint. For those not familiar with the area, it's conveniently located at the top of One New Change - A shopping centre with H&M, Banana Republic, Topshop, Hotel Chocolat and Swarovski to name a few places. There are plenty of other restaurants to tempt you away (burritos, sushi, champagne), but you really can't go wrong with a warm noodley broth. This branch is much larger than the ones I've previously been to. I'm used to Oxford Circus which is teeny tiney. When I first started eating at Pho I liked that the branch was still relatively unknown. This branch, on the other hand, is a more larger space. Despite it being a busy lunch hour, we were seated quickly and the ambiance was generally quite nice. I'm not a fan of the communal benches but appreciate they allow for more diners and they did try to space people out though which is really good. Despite the number of diners it felt relaxed and my friend and I could have a good catchup without having to raise voices. Food-wise, I stuck with its namesake and ordered the garlic beef pho. Packed full or flavour and really filling. I couldn't manage all the broth but that shouldn't reflect on the dish. I had also ordered Chicken Summer Rolls which could account for my full tummy. The staff were really helpful and friendly. They explained to my friend how to mix her Bun dish together, and apart from a bit of a wait between the Summer rolls and main, they were really quick. Pho is ultimate elixir for a hangover. Always served piping hot, easy to eat, and somehow magically stomach calming. That being said, in a pinch, Pho (the restaurant) will do, but it isn't the most authentic bowl I've ever had The location inside of a shopping mall makes it easy to find and easy to access. The surrounding area was pretty dead on a Sunday, and we were dreading finding the place to be closed after walking over 20 minutes and getting lost via Google maps. Lucky for us, Pho was open and ready for business! I'm used to ghetto, don't even wanna know what they do in the kitchen, mom and pop style restaurants back home, so visiting Pho with its sparkly new contemporary décor was a fresh experience. The restaurant was understandably empty as it was an early Sunday morning, but the staff was quick at seating us, taking our orders and filling up our waters. For those who are unfamiliar with the pho experience, they even give you a quick walkthrough of the menu and how to eat pho! Friend and I both decided on the Pho Bo Combo, which comes with steak, brisket and meatballs. The veggies that come alongside with the pho were really fresh; I was surprised that they even included culantro. If you're a fan of cilantro, definitely throw this into your pho, you'll love it! While I enjoyed it, the pho was kind of hit or miss. The noodles weren't cooked well enough, to the point that they were still a little hard and had a little bit of a raw consistency. Plus the meatballs are just wack. Some might argue that the meatballs they serve here are better quality than what you might find at more authentic pho places because you can see that they're real ground beef. But in my book, just no. I missed the traditional Vietnamese meatballs. On the bright side, the broth here is absolutely-ridiculously delicious. Full of flavor and dimension, the broth made up for the undercooked noodles and the weird meatballs. Another plus is that they give large portions of steak and brisket and just enough noodles. Overall, I liked Pho (the restaurant!) because it's just what I needed at the time. Buuuuttt, while I liked the décor and the fresh vibe of the restaurant, I kinda got the feeling that there were things that got lost in translation when it came to the food. 5 stars just for the spring rolls. I LOVE THEM! This St Paul's location is great (one new change) - bit of lunch followed by a bit of shopping - what is not to love. Hanoi style Pho is so good I want to put the bowl to my mouth & slurp. Our server today was lovely and I'm always impressed when someone can memorise the order and get it right! We ate here on a Sunday lunchtime and the restaurant was extremely quiet so we were shown to a table straight away. We started with some prawn crackers, which were unfortunately very disappointing - they were the most bland prawn crackers I've ever tasted with very little flavour, which was slightly odd. We then shared some squid and pork spring rolls for starters. Both were pleasant enough but not particularly outstanding. The spring rolls were nice and crispy but I've had much more flavoursome Vietnamese spring rolls at other places. They could also have done with some more lettuce and herbs so they could be properly wrapped in the lettuce (which I believe is the traditional way of eating them). For main I had the chicken and prawn fried noodles. Again it was a perfectly enjoyable dish and tasted fresh. However it just didn't have the same burst of flavour I expect from Vietnamese cuisine. Overall our meal here was pleasant enough but I doubt very much I'll return in the future. Maybe I'm spoiled living very close to Kingsland Rd which has some amazing Vietnamese restaurants, but I found Pho slightly disappointing. read more

Awful, bland and overpriced! No wonder there were so many condiments on the table. Half a dozen cubes of tofu on a bowl of flavourless, white rice - accompanied by a bit of red pepper, a bit of green pepper and a few slithers of chilli. This is so far from value for money that I have the distinct feeling of being 'ripped off.' Add the price of a glass of mint leaves floating in water and the service charge, and I had not much change of £15. Gives vegan food a bad image. read more

For being Vietnamese and on my travels. I always searching for the best pho. I can't compare to my mom pho but it get really close with the unique vegetables in the pho. I highly recommend this place. The only con is the cost of pho. It should never be double the cost. read more

If your hoping to pop in for a quick lunch during work, this may not be the best option for you. Hugely popular, the entire restaurant was full even at 1:15pm. We ended up sitting outside the restaurant itself, but still covered in the one change building. Their summer rolls were ok, but nothing special. I could barely even tell there was prawn inside. I also had the tofu curry which was tasty. Not very spicy, but full of coconut flavor and vegetables. A very healthy portion for the price. read more

Took the time to find a place to eat on Sunday evening and decided on Pho. We came and arrived at 7:20pm as their hours stated they closed at 8. Upon arrival they told us they were closed. I could see people still eating inside but they still turned us around despite having closing hours of 8. What exactly is the point of hours if you do not honor them..especially at a chain. The person working said they were closing early because lack of business...well we were trying to give them business. Don't bother coming an hour before closing and wasting your time. Late night supper by myself. There is seating both Inside and outside the restaurant. I walked into Pho and the music was so loud I had to talk loudly to my hostess, soI chose Tobit outside. By sitting outside it also provided an opportunity to people watch, as dining by yourself can be awkward at times. So, was provided a menu by the hostess and shortly thereafter a chap came right up and took both my drink and food order. I had a few questions and he was knowledgable about the items on the menu. Well done. I had the pork springs rolls which were delish. A crisp wrapper around ground pork with a sprig of mint, lettuce and a mild sweet and sour sauce. I added srirachi sauce as I like my dipping sauces hot. You get three springs rolls, so to be honest, an order of these and another small dish and a person could be quite happy. Very good. I had ordered the chicken soup with rice noodles. It was a nice big bowl and the broth was so flavorful. Herbs such as cilantro, mint, basil and lime are served on the side and I added them all in addition to a little heat. Again, a great choice. I did ask for a fork as the only utensils you get are chopsticks. Chopsticks and noodles for me don't work well together. I was graciously given a fork. For the soup, you're provided a wooden spoon with a handle at 90 degrees, so that was also a bit different for me, but I was able to work thru the angle. Overall, the experience was such that I recommend it and would return. It didn't get 5 stars because of the loud music, which I believe would have provided a different experience. read more
