Golden Age (GAC) was one of the agencies I called. After discussing our needs, I determined that the price for the amount of hours we'd need was going to be beyond our budget. I moved on to researching other resources. A few days later, a GAC rep contacted me and I explained that we were no longer interested. She offered a reduced price that was in our budget, and I decided to give them a try. A few days later, someone contacted me to tell me about the two caregivers that were scheduled to begin the following week. They sounded great, and we were all set . . . until the night before the first caregiver was supposed to begin when I got a call from GAC telling me that *both* of the scheduled caregivers were now unavailable. The GAC rep said she was already trying to find replacements. It was disappointing and frustrating to have to scramble for coverage for the 4 days that my dad wouldn't have a caregiver even though we'd had a start date locked down a week ago, but I chalked it up to "things happen." A couple of days later GAC's founder texted me to tell me he'd investigated the "total mishap" and apologize for "starting off on a hiccup." He told me about his background starting the company (he'd had a hard time finding quality, reliable caregivers for his grandmother) and how he "still personally [stays] involved because [he wants] to see things are done right" and that he would "personally be involved with the care of [my] dad on coordinating caregivers with [the] staffing team." He offered me a discount for the first month, said he was going to have GAC's case manager call me so that she could be my main point of contact, and said he'd spoken to the two reps and the case manager to "re-align better communication etc. for future placements." Later that day I got a call and texts from the case manager, who told me she'd "be watching things like a hawk. Be sure your dad is well taken care of." I felt reassured that that first "mishap" was just that. The 2 new caregivers started a few days later (and a third rotated in a couple of weeks later), and they were great. However, within less than a month, 1 of them "resigned" after her shift one night with no notice, and GAC didn't tell us until the day after, only because I called them when my dad told me the caregiver hadn't shown up and I couldn't get in touch with her. Less than a week later, the other caregiver didn't show up for her shift and I called GAC to report this and was told that she too had "quit" and that "we don't know what happened to these girls really," but that I had already been told that we wouldn't have a replacement until 3 days later. (Nobody had told me anything.) I texted GAC's founder about this since he'd been so outspoken and intentional about letting me know he'd be on top of things and seemed so committed to making sure things went well. I never heard from him. I told the GAC rep not to bother getting a replacement and that we were done working with them. The rep kept insisting on trying to have another rep call me and trying to schedule someone else. I just wanted them to leave us alone. The experience was awful, GAC had again forced me to scramble to find care for my dad on short notice and left us with no caregivers--so I was done with GAC. Since then (8 months ago), a GAC rep has called or texted me at least once every 2-3 months to ask me if I'm still looking for caregivers. It's always clear that they have no documentation of my case, and I always tell them I'll never work with GAC again nor refer GAC to others and to please remove me from their contact list. Each time, they tell me they will. Two weeks ago I got another text, and asked them to remove me from their list. I was told that I would be put on their do-not-call list. Nope! I just got off of yet another prospecting call from them. So, along with the unreliable, dishonest service and terrible communication, they're relentless telemarketers who can't be bothered to remember former customers' poor experiences or respect requests to not contact them again.

Dr. Deka had a terrible bedside manner and he was very rough. I had made it very clear to Dr. Deka and his staff that I had almost died a few years ago from C-Diff and I cannot have antibiotics with Keflex. The morning of surgery at Piper Surgical Center (they are great) the nurse was asking me question and stated there would be an IV put in me for the antibiotic. I ask what they were going to give me she said the doctor prescribed Keflex. I could not believe it. When the doctor arrived he tried to convince me that it would be fine to take the Keflex because he didn't think that was what caused me to have C-Diff (WOW) this doctor doesn't even know me, he met me once for fifteen minutes. Once we cleared this up that I was not going to accept the Keflex all the while Dr. Deka standing at the end of my bed never saying hello when he arrived, never speaking to my husband. My husband had to introduce himself. Dr. Deka tells the Med student that I never approved to lift the sheet so he could look at my belly button. Before I could say anything she pulls off my sheet exposing my naked lower body to all seven people standing around. I was horrified. Once I was in surgery the surgery was much more involved (of course) than Dr.Deka had anticipated? He put in mesh and basically reconstructed my belly button. When I woke up I was in a lot of pain. I was told I would have zero down time and would be free to go to work the next day. I went home no one followed up with me. I was in the bed for a week. I could hardly move it hurt so badly. My stomach was swollen and my belly was red. I called my primary doctor and she put me on antibiotic's this seemed to help but I was not heeling. I called Dr. Deka's office and his nurse told me this was normal and to give it time. I was wondering to the no down time I was told about before. I never heard from Dr. Deka. My husband and I went out of town for a week and I was miserable. We came back home and went straight to the ER where they drained the incision. I now have an ugly funky looking belly button and I am sensitive around my belly button.

Aside from a couple of…read morereliable caregivers, we have had poor quality of care exacerbating an already stressful situation. There does not appear to be a matching process or vetting. There has not been alignment between caregivers, staffing manager, and care manager causing confusion, multiple miscommunications, poor continuity of care and additional stress. Calendars (if we get an updated one) are never accurate and there does not appear to be accountability for who is responsible for what. My family has had almost no peace of mind during this difficult time and I have spent countless hours managing problems with both caregivers and Keys leadership multiple times a week. Two night caregivers have slept through multiple call button rings, two caregivers have no showed, one caregiver walked around the house all night keeping everyone awake. After asking the care manager all this week to verify coverage for this weekend, another no show tonight - Christmas weekend. These are only a few examples of problems that have occurred in a short period of time. Why not fire The Keys? Easier said than done. While my parents have me advocating for them, it's sad to think about other vulnerable elderly folks that need support and are being taken advantage of by what appears to be incompetent leadership and a poor for profit business model. For the amount of money Keys charges, service should be seamless. Do better. You are certainly not helping older adults live well in their own homes or improving their quality of lives. We know that stress and lack of sleep exacerbate medical problems. Sadly, The Keys has succeeded in accomplishing this.

Care From The Heart was hired to assist my Mother, Whom was afflicted by Alzheimers, with simple things she used to do as part of a Daily routine, but due to the illness became struggles of mental acceptance. [bathing, changing into clean clothes, tidying up around her house, fixing adequately nutritious meals, etc.] Most staff sent out to care for my Mother were Patronizing and Placating when interacting with her. And whenst my Mother would have a symptomatic mood swing, would become Personally offended and leave their shift early, sometimes not returning. My Mother is Gentle, but Strong-Willed. Non-violent, but Verbal. The only times she got into a mood swing were when the Care From The Heart staff grew unprofessionally frustrated, and Impatiently tried to FORCE her to do things she was not Ready to do. The Activity sheets, kept in a Binder, for the Family and their Boss to review, were Frequently scribed with unvarying, Routine entries, when they were not Simplistic and akin to Milking-the-Time-clock.

I reached out to Sage Hospice, Primary & Palliative Care hoping to receive the comfort-focused, home-based support they publicly claim to provide. Instead, I was met with deceit, slander from the medical director, and a cruel emotional bait-and-switch -- not once, but twice. My first interaction with the Sage location in Tucson involved a care specialist who seemed to express genuine compassion. When I explained that I live in Sells, AZ -- a rural tribal area -- he assured me we could work around the geographic issue if I had a Tucson address for appointments. I provided one, a relative's address, and he acted as though I was a good candidate for palliative care. But behind the scenes, their medical director -- who had never evaluated me, never spoken to me, and had not even reviewed my case thoroughly -- labeled me a "drug seeker," claimed I was "seeking for high doses of opiates," and refused to provide care. This reckless accusation came without a single clinical conversation. I have extensive medical documentation confirming the severity of my condition. I was seeking palliative care, not addiction services. Furthermore, I have NO history of addiction, it does NOT run in my family, and I've never abused pain meds. I was and am seeking RELIEF for my uncontrolled severe pain, pain that has utterly debilitated me and destroyed my life. But instead of Sage helping me, I was cast aside and stigmatized. That alone would have been enough to earn this review. But then, several weeks later, Sage reached out to me again, asking if I still wanted services. Desperate for help, I said yes -- because I'm suffering every day with no relief and no one else will help me. They gave me hope again. Only to betray me again. After this second round of false hope, I was finally told the truth: Sage "refers out" for pain management -- meaning they don't actually offer palliative care at all. For crying out loud, the verb "palliate" means TO RELIEVE!! Pain management is the cornerstone of palliative care. I used to be a hospice nurse in the past, so I am very well-versed on palliative care, both end-of-life palliative care (hospice) and palliative care for a serious, life-altering disease (which is what I need badly). To claim to offer palliative care but refuse to actually treat pain is misleading at best and fraud at worst. Refer out to WHERE? In southern Arizona, pain clinics are almost exclusively interventional-only, which means they reject patients with complex, high-level chronic pain unless they agree to invasive procedures or stop taking all pain medication. I am far too sick to endure their hoops and unethical demands. What Sage is really saying is: "You're on your own." Sage Hospice, Primary & Palliative Care falsely advertises compassionate care and symptom relief, but they do not treat severe chronic pain and they will stigmatize you behind your back. They will waste your time, raise your hopes, and disappear when you need them most. If you're suffering and seeking real palliative support, avoid this company. Their actions left me more isolated, demoralized, and abandoned than ever -- and I am still in excruciating pain.
