I'm writing this with a lot of sadness. When my now 6 year old was 3 we started gymnastics classes here and we loved it. She found some really good friends and learned a lot, but once she turned 5 it felt like there was a huge shift. My daughter got invited to supersparks, sort of like a pre-team class, and had to leave all her friends, which was hard. Right away the coach was not a fan of my kid, she does have adhd, but she was so harsh. She threatened to kick her out. I would watch this coach give all kinds of faces and yell at her. Still she persisted. Once summer came when she was 6 all the kids were talking about going into hot shots, the next level in competition track. My kid came back almost every day excited to move up with her friends. She would say her coach would tell her she'd have to work hard to get to hot shots. It wasn't until my husband confronted the teacher to ask what was happening for her to tell him that all the other girls were invited into hot shots, except for my daughter, because she's "immature", you know.....unlike any other 6 year old. She gave us the option to stay in supersparks but heavily encouraged her to go to level 2 recreational, the classes she doesn't teach. So like a fool I kept her in supersparks and watched my kid not able to be pushed because all the new kids are a year younger. There's obviously a lot of emotion in this, I just could not believe my daughter was basically left behind after being there for so long. How much money did I put into their pockets just to be pretty much abandoned. I went to a recommended gymnastics place from one of her school friends and had them evaluate her, ready for the recommendation for level 2 recreational. Nope, not even close. She's been invited for a trial on their team. There is a lot of prejudice here, if you are not in with the owner get ready for you and your kid to be lost in the crowd. Heavy heavy cliques with the adults. I just couldn't believe that three years of knowing my kids, coming in multiple times a week, we were just kicked to the curb. We're heartbroken. I do want to say Jodi and Robyn, thank you for loving on my kids. I'm sorry I didn't have it in me to say goodbye the last time. Thank you for encouraging any and all kids who are a little different and show so much potential. Your company has a lot to learn from you. read more

We were with PGA for 3 years in the Xcel program. At first, we loved it. Cheaper than most gyms and the hours allowed my daughter to also be involved in clubs at school. However, once my daughter got to Xcel Platinum, it all went down hill. Unbeknownst to us, there is a huge jump from Gold to Platinum in skills requirements. My daughter went from medaling in 4-5 events and 1st place on floor in multiple meets while in Gold to being lucky if she got one medal while in Platinum. Mind you the coaches had changed, the skills required had changed, but the practice hours did not. I'm asking the owner why such a drastic change in my daughter's scoring and medaling and he tells me my daughter is weak. Her muscles cannot handle what needs to be done in Platinum and she should also be going to a workout gym to work on that. I said if Platinum requires so much more than Gold, why do you have Platinum working out the same hours as Gold (only 2 hours per day, 4 days per week for a total of 8 hours per week)? He said that's just the way it is. I asked about switching her over to levels so she could get better coaching and more hours and he said she is way too old to do that. She would be way older than the other girls at her level. I spoke to other gymnastic academies and when I told them her hours, they were flabbergasted that she was practicing so little and were not surprised she wasn't seeing great results. Most other gyms at Platinum level practice 12-20 hours per week with a good amount of that being strength and cardio training. You won't get that at PGA. The point of this review is to warn other Xcel parents about this program so you don't go through what we did. If your daughter actually wants to potentially move through Xcel and transition to the JO program, or even go to Xcel Diamond (which PGA doesn't even offer at this point), I would search out other gymnastic academies. PGA is fine for Silver and Gold, but anything beyond that is not going to be successful here. All of the attention at this gym goes to the JO program. Xcel is barely recognized. read more

She started as a tumble bug and now she is an acrotot, she is also in the combo class for dance, All the instructors are very friendly and make all the children feel welcome, my daughter has learned a lot in a fun and encouraging way I have never seen any staff put down any child or family member. The ladies at the front desk don't smile, greet or say hello to anyone ! I have walked by multiple times and never have heard or seen any of it. Super disappointed. I signed my grand daughter up for their Children's acrotots and we have been going for a couple months now. Well my 3 yr old granddaughter seems to get distracted and I get it she is three and she has learned a lot and I can tell she tries. But she feels defeated every time she leaves. Like I watch her and she does really well and one time she loses focus and the teacher gives her a hard time. You can see it in her face! That part isn't Even why I'm upset. ok what made me decide to leave and leave this review is that when I walked in the rest room to dress my granddaughter my friend was in the lobby and hears the teacher talking trash about my granddaughter to another parent. Completely unprofessional. Somewhat heartbroken, we drive 40 mins for this class and for her to act that way doesn't make me feel like she is a student, it makes me feel like she is a number. Sad to leave but definitely wouldn't put her through that again. read more

My son is enrolled in coach Justin's class. Justin has great patience with the kids, and my son being the cautious child that he is really appreciates that. We love coach Justin and Miss Alexis, they have a great impact on my boys confidence. I also work at Phoenix Gymnastics Academy and as a teacher admire the skills that these two workers have with the kids. I don't know the name of the woman working the front on Saturday morning, but she is the reason we won't be coming here. She was heavier set with short light hair. Working with another patron in front of us in line, his English (second plus language, I'm sure) needed concentration to understand what he was asking. He asked where to go for one of the classes, to which she replied, "yeah. It's upstairs, like where you always go for class" He then asked if it was ok with what his daughter was wearing because her leotard wasn't dry before he was able to take her to class. Her: "is it tight enough?" (While staring at the little girl's clothes, which she can obviously see) Then says there are loaners the little girl can have. When this dad walks away, she rolls her eyes and says that leotards take like 5 minutes to dry so she doesn't understand his logic. Does she understand parenthood? Or that people have other obligations and sometimes things don't dry when you need them to? Then when she gets to me--I'm already pissed because she treated that dad so rudely then talked crap after he left--I tell her we are here for an under 2yo class and that this is our first time. She asks if we've filled out the paperwork. To which I state again that this is our first time here and we have nothing. She goes on to attempt to explain that the class is booked and there is no way to tell when an opening would be available. Ok that's fine. She was unhelpful in explaining enrollment process or the "6 week" commitment? thing. I've done like under 5 reviews in my life, but this woman was so rude to the dad in front of me and was so curt and unhelpful to me, we walked out. This place is highly rated on google but not on yelp. And she is probably the reason for fallen stars. Please don't take crap about your patrons if you want people to attend your establishment. Having a bad day? Keep your superfluous comments to yourself. read more

My 3 yr old does the tumblebugs twice a week and combo dance class once a week and she loves it. There is upstairs and downstairs viewing areas. The teachers she has are great at keeping the kids participating and having fun but also keeps them from getting out of hand. I highly recommend this gym. They have classes in the morning and evening. Evening is great because the older team kids are there so you can watch them but weekday mornings are our favorite because the little ones get the whole gym to themselves and there are less distractions. read more

Came here for a trail class with my five year old... It did not go so well. The place is packed, every parking spot is taken, every seat inside is taken so you are usually fighting for a spot anywhere! The place is totally chaotic and they had I would say 100 kids in the gym in different groups, way too much! Also it's absolutely filthy, smelled like body odor and dirty floors. Sadly this is what happens when companies get to money hungry and care more about what their making them the quality their customers are getting. They need smaller classes, they need more space. I bring my child to watch her and enjoy seeing her face as she learns, if I can't even find a place to watch her or find her in the crowd of other kids, whats the point! read more

Well I hate to do this.... But I have to update this..... My children no longer go here.... for two reasons... The teachers that are teaching the Gymnastics just let them run around and don't provide the teaching I would like to see. I am not sure what happened to the other teachers or what is going on as it used to not be like this...... However my daughter has flopped off the bars several times with out a teacher even noticing. Doesn't spend time with them to teach them or correct them. Lastly the waiting room is by far is the worst!!!! No air!!!!! no seats!!!!! Even Leslie at the front desk needs air. It is horrible. The baseboards are coming up in the waiting room. Chairs are broken. It really needs some attention. 7/02/2013 ______________________ I have two children enrolled at this location. My 6 year old is in the combo dance class with Aimee. We love Aimee! She is great. Very upbeat and def. knows what she is doing. My daughter really enjoys the class and what they are learning. She takes the time to make sure all students are learning and enjoying the class. My 4 year old daughter is in aqua tots in gymnastics. They are so fun and take the time to teach her when she needs it. Very fun and upbeat. She loves this class. Leslie is amazing at the front desk. She is on top of everything and def. knows her job. I have called several times and have talked to several different people and everyone has been extremely helpful and polite. I have met the owner once.... didnt even know it was the owner until I went home and saw their picture on the website. She is very friendly and interacts with the children. She knows her teachers very well. Love to see an owner heavily involved with their business. The ONLY reason I am not giving this 5 stars is due to the viewing rooms/areas are really bad. When you have children like mine that WILL look for you to make sure you just saw that cool move they just learned you better be there and ready with a thumbs up. - I am sure this will fade as we continue these classes however getting a spot where you can see is VERY HARD! I have been taking my 5yr old son here for a year and we love it! He just signed up for a second class and now he goes twice a week.

I enrolled my two grandsons in the beginner boy's class. They like their coach, but there is too much standing around, walking from place to place, and waiting to do things. At least a third of class time is wasted. In one instance, I observed lack of instruction for doing headstands resulting in my younger grandson twisting his neck and falling in what I viewed as a dangerous position. When I brought it to the attention of the front desk person, she spent a long time "explaining" to me how it was perfectly safe since he was on a padded surface. She also wanted to know if I wanted her to bring him out of the class. I explained to her that it was NOT safe to twist one's neck into such positions, but I did not want him removed from class (at this point that portion of the class was over). I requested to speak with the coach and explained that I felt my grandson needed extra instruction in that area. The classes are held in one huge room. Often, the different groups are in the way of one another. There are definitely too many students and too many classes going on at the same time. The whole thing is very chaotic. In addition, parking is impossible and the waiting/viewing area is a nightmare. The parking lot is far too small and the traffic flow is poor. Many people park on the street where there are No Parking signs. People waiting for their children are often not paying attention to the behavior of their other children who are climbing all over the place or running wild. I'm not sure what the point of sitting in the viewing area is for people who are not watching what their child is doing in class. Often, those sitting by the window are on their phones or tablets or chatting with other parents. Children waiting for their class to begin are running all over, climbing up and down the stairs, and yelling. Either the parents don't care or can't read the clearly posted signs about behavior. The staff certainly do not address the issues. It's also a good idea to use the bathroom before you arrive or plan to wait until you get home. Too many people use the restroom as a changing room, which with two stalls and wall to wall people, is not a good thing. The primary reason we have not taken our business elsewhere is location. If there was another school with better facilities and a better program within a reasonable driving distance, we would be there! read more

They get one star just for having a building that hasn't burned down yet. I've been coming here for about a year and my little one loves it but to a kid it's all fun. For me I get to deal with the real portion of this group. First off, the front desk staff. They do not communicate with each other and if you had a conversation with someone over the phone you better make sure that you get the same person when you show up or you are SOL. Second, the building was not made to handle this many people at one time. You get ONE bathroom each (male/female) but the signs don't make a difference. I've watched grown men come out of each bathroom and the horror I got to see when I walked in after them.......it looked as if they had thrown a water ballon filled with urine at the toilet. And of course the staff don't clean that up. Third, the viewing area is a joke. I love showing up to watch my kid and I get to stand behind 30 people sitting against the viewing window and not one of them is watching their kids. I guess that Facebook post is more important. In short they need to do one of the following. Expand to another building or cut down on class sizes. read more

The gymnastics coaching is ok, not great but not terrible. It might be better if my kids had the same coach each session but it seems like they have a different teacher each week so there is no consistency. Also, get some freaking bleacher seating for the parents! There are almost no chairs in the viewing room so people have to get there early and literally hover over people currently seated to claim a seat the minute someone stands up. The front desk staff actually instructed me to do this at our first session like they thought it was funny. For the amount of money I spend on classes they could have least have decent seating for the parents. I'd even donate money toward a bleacher fund. read more

I have never been one to complain or write reviews but after taking my 3 yr old daughter here for the past 5 months, I'm confident in saying we will never step foot in this place again! The coaches are all great, we especially liked Corey. But the lady at the front desk is one of the rudest people you will ever meet. I had called last week to let them know my daughter will be absent for a couple days due to a death in the family. I was told that it was no problem and that we had til the first week of April to make up the classes so i assumed that's when the 6 week session was over. (My mistake) We get there today and about half way through, the extremely rude receptionist comes over and says she needs to collect payment for the new session, i told her we are taking a break after the current one was over and she informed me that that was today and then proceeded to pull my crying 3 year old out of the class!!! Not giving me the option to just pay for that day or anything, just took her out! For one, come on just let her finish the class or have me pay for it. Second i was told something very different over the phone that she had til beginning of April to finish those makeup classes. Such a waste of money! I asked to speak to the owner/ manager Mike, he apologized and confirmed she should NOT have done that. As he is talking to me, the receptionist looks over at me and LAUGHS. Not only should she not be aloud to work with kids but Terrible customer service and overall snobby attitude. Mike told me he will have a serious conversation with her and that is 100% not ok but seeing how many comment are on here about her i doubt much will be done. She ruined it for us and we will be finding a different place to take my daughter. read more

My daughter has been going to this gym for about 2yrs now. Unfortunately there is a new lady in the front office that is so rude. I have never had a problem with Leslie but this new lady has us looking elsewhere for a gym. They also lost one of there best coaches: Shane. My son (4 years old) recently enrolled in the Mighty Mites 1 class on Wednesday evenings. This is conveniently located near his preschool. Mostly a fun energy release plus he loves dancing and jumping/flipping around at home. No interest in really getting him involved in competitions or anything but he seems to like the class and his instructor. The bad news is this place is super busy all the time with limited parking and it's standing room only...pretty much everywhere. With multiple classes at once and one class ending 5 minutes before the next class starts, it's difficult for everyone to gather their child, head towards the door, and leave in an orderly fashion so the next group of parents can park and get in on time. Wish that part could be rectified but a couple of 6 week sessions will be fun and beneficial for him. read more

I can't say enough positive things about Phoenix Gymnastics and Dance. My children take regular classes there as well as attend summer camp. The staff is wonderful. The coaches are positive and encouraging. Overall this is a great facility and we highly recommend it for both boys and girls. read more

My daughter has been going here for two sessions now and she LOVES it! The teachers are incredible. They give each child very good attention and also train them for safe gymnastics practice. My daughter has some separation anxiety, and they have worked so well with us to get her in and involved with the other kids. They don't seem annoyed at all, they are very patient and supportive. She is in the Acro-tots program. I LOVE her teacher! I think most of the teachers there are amazing, I have not had a chance to meet them all yet though. It is worth the cost for sure. The ratio's are low, the teachers are great, the gym is clean. We love it here! read more

The only reason I give this place a 3-star is because of the older woman at the front desk. She just gets frazzled easily and doesn't know how to speak to parents when she does. She also likes to point fingers, even though we all can see that she is overwhelmed and maybe feels anxious and doesn't know how to handle it well. I do understand that the room is small but most of the people in the small room are there for the younger students and we can't see anything so we tend to scatter. I actually don't mind the view being smaller because I feel like the kids learn better when their parents aren't watching. They're able to focus more on what the teacher is saying instead of looking back and getting distracted. Anyways, the room being small doesn't help but there's nothing that can be done about that. The woman up front needs to find a way to calm herself down and talk to parents politely instead of talking down to them or blaming them for this and that and what not. My daughter enjoys the class and we just signed up for a second one this upcoming session so we will continue going, for now. It would be cool if they made those mirrors one way so the parents can watch and the kids don't get distracted, kill two birds with one stone. read more

I took my 4 yr old daughter for a trial class last Wednesday and the traffic just to walk inside the building is unbelievable. It is such a pain to get upstairs to her class with all the people trying to go in and out. I feel something definitely has to be done about that because it's chaos and makes it not even worth the stress. My daughter had her first class last night and after being in class for about 5 minutes or so while stretching she was asked to go out of class with an instructor. I was confused on what was going on and when they walked out the door I asked what was going on. I was told my daughter was not enrolled(even though it was a mistake on their part and she was) so she couldn't be in the class. My first thought was why would you take my child out of the class when it could have been discussed with me first. The instructor wasn't even going to come up to me, she was just going to take my daughter to the front desk. How is a 4 yr old going to help?! Needless to say I was pretty upset that happened regardless if it was a small misunderstanding or not. There was no apology and she commented that the front desk made her look bad for this mistake. During the class there is a ton of standing around and my daughter agrees they don't do much which she has been in gym for the last yr + at Az Sunrays. My daughter will be attending one last class because it is paid for then we will no longer go to this gym. Hope some changes can be made because I was really excited to find a gym so close to home! read more
