In my experience, there are likely three types of physical therapists - those who take a kind of body-building approach with lots of weights, those who lean a lot on electrical stimulation to loosen things up, and those who use manual massage coupled with light exercises. Katie at Phoenix PT is definitely in the last category. I'm 77 years old and have been putting up with a series of painful "conditions" for as much as 40 years. Over time I visited one or another PT clinic but never really got any satisfaction. My longest-lasting situation was a stiff neck - I could turn my head freely to my left but turning to the right was difficult at best. After two visits with Katie, at which she did some deep massage of the muscles around my neck and shoulders, I can turn my head to the right with only a hint of stiffness, probably the result of arthritis. Since then she has worked on both hips, again using a combination of massage and light exercise. I tell myself that she isn't doing very much at the time, but amazingly I'm just a few minutes things are loosened up like they haven't been since I was a kid. She's very personable and takes great care to make sure we're both on the same page as to what she plans to do and then to make sure I'm not silently enduring her manipulations. The worst of it all was after the very first visit - she did a lot of manipulation of my neck area - not at all painful - but she warned me that I was going to be sore the next day. She was right, but it's been a small price to pay to get back to feeling normal again. Highly recommend Katie - her practice is relatively new here and is bright and clean. read more
