New and modern facility. Excellent service. Speedy as well. They called my name as soon as I sat down. Excellent care and service. There was not a lot of parking spaces went around the entire facility and got lucky as 1 person was pulling out. After curling the facility twice. This was during a kinda morning. Not a weekend. Where emergencies arise. It was semi empty inside. So im guessing it was full of employees in that parking area. There were more employees than patients I noticed. But again. Its a hospital and a clinic. I did favor the Patriot Store and the Galley Area(thats food). Lines were fair and there was only 1 cashier and 1 sticker there with all the patrons. Nonetheless a friendly environment. Welcome facility. And modern. Everything was neat. We'll presented. Signs were visible overhead and in the walls. GOD BLESS THE VA and AMERICA! every time I walk thru these doors the staff is always courteous professional and very respectful. Any time I've reached out for help, I feel like this place does everything they can to support, comfort and care for me. Today, I came into the ER. they attended me right alway, took care of my medical emergency. They guided me and comforted me thru the minor surgery. The doctor and nurse made me feel like I was the only thing that mattered. While they were treating me. they gave me some gauze and tape to cover my incision, and wrote me a prescription. they walked me back to the waiting room and thanked me for my service. What a joke, I mean no one ever expected the government to actually be efficient but holy..... when you call they mostly transfer you to call center in GA who then can't help you. I am not even allowed to call my small va clinics front desk!! I have to call Phoenix first who transfers me to GA who then transfers me back to Phoenix.... This happens regularly. And why do you have different rules and procedures than even Tucson Va??? The PhxVAMC has forgotten that they are supposed to treat the patients asking for help, not threatening, harassing, or refusing to treat patients. There are some excellent providers within the PhxVAMC, however it only takes one person to take the good work done by many to an unacceptable standard. Refusing to inform patients of a potential fatal illness, or telling patients they have stage IV cancer and that they (the doctors) don't want to treat it until it gets worse is truly unacceptable. Then when providers refuse to attend appointments and lie about it blaming the patient for the missed appointment when the patient was the one on the phone begging the provider to attend an appointment, it is unacceptable. Refusing to see patients within the 7 to 10 day window following a hospital stay and looking at two year old CT scans to say the patient was wasting their time, it again is unacceptable. If the VA is being looked at for potential government cuts it should start with the Phoenix VA Medical Center, 6th floor. read more

This is the 21st Century. Why does the phone system for the primary hospital facilities in the 5th largest city in the richest country on the planet have such a primitive system? So my boyfriend is a Vet and after a four day trip of flying he came home complaining of a stiff neck lol so we took him here to the VA emergency room on a Saturday let alone on a holiday weekend and shockingly enough the place only had a handful of people waiting to see a doctor we were both shocked considering what the news outlets make this hospital look like. It was clean, the staff was kind , vending machine if you got thirsty. We were in and out in three hours . I can say our experience was a positive one I hope to not have to update a review in the future but if I do I hope it to is positive. read more

My son was on the verge of homelessness in California. I got him a bus ticket to AZ. the next day I took him to the VA in the west valley. they sent us to the 15th street and Thomas location. I can't say enough about that location and the speed and quality of service they provided. My son came to Az and 28 hours later he's in a safe place to start rebuilding his life. All the employees we encountered including the hospital blew my mind as far as VA healthcare. I'm a veteran myself not in need of it but if it comes down to it I'm glad you're there. Earlier, I was Looking to solve an issue with the pharmacy. While I was on the phone spelling the name of the medication, the nurse (who can't spell) proceeded to call me rude and diSrEsPeCtFuL. THIS made me rude, and when explaining to her why she was wrong (she was. I swear I'm mad chill) she hung up on me. This was to make sure I had medication critical to my health. Asking for healthcare should never be considered harassment by healthcare providers. Having an allergic reaction to a cancer drug should never be left untreated because the healthcare providers have decided to refuse to treat a 100% P&T Disabled veteran. Sheduling online appointments for patients and refusing to show up to the appointment should never happen. Entering a statement that said the patient refused to go to the clinic for treatment, and going so far as to say the appointment was completed by the provider, when he refused to attend the online appointment, should never happen. Telling a patient that their stage IV renal cancer would not be treated until it got worse, should never happen. Telling a patient that the VA OIG had found that other veterans (patients) had died because they were denied care in the clinic. These incidents should never happen, yet it happened three different times in three different specialty clinics. When patients are accused of being angry when requesting that healthcare providers please stop making such insensitive statements to the patient advocate as a form of retaliation, such events should never happen. Being covered with open wounds that started out as a simple rash due to an allergic reaction to a cancer drug, should never have been allowed to happen. The administrative staff, and healthcare providers in the Phoenix VA Medical Center acted out of anger and malice as they denied the timely healthcare to a 100% P&T Disabled Veteran who ended up moving out of state out of fear of being the next veteran allowed to die because they were denied healthcare. The scars to the skin are permanent, but not nearly as serious as the emotional toll taken by being denied healthcare and listening to and reading rude and retaliatory statements by the healthcare providers. read more

Super Detailed and Objective Summary Of Services In various Departments After a few more trips to the Phoenix VA hospital today I thought it was time to update my review and give some detailed information about the good jobs I received from the people in certain departments as well as terrible. -1 Stars for MRI Scheduling: I tore my rotator cuff nearly 6 weeks ago. I called my doctor right away because it really hurts a lot! They made me an Xray appointment and we got that done in a snap! Then they said to schedule an MRI, so I called and they told me I have to wait more than 3 months to be seen!!! I asked if they knew what a torn rotator cuff felt like and that it was painful, they said there is nothing they can do. This is not acceptable. 5 Stars For Inpatient Labs: Everyone at in patient labs were professional and friendly. I got my labs done and was on my way and all was great. The Blonde girl who is pregnant was super friendly and had a good sense of humor. 5 Stars For Podiatry: Everyone was super friendly and they even got me in slightly earlier than my appointment since I showed up early. They were a courteous and professional group of people including the doctor, nurse, medical doctor students plural, and even the people at the desk! I liked my female doctor with the unique and difficult to remember last name... 5 Stars For X-Ray: I showed up to x-ray 10 minutes early and was seen almost immediately so that was pretty awesome. The guy at the desk is always there and he is always a super friendly guy. My blonde haired x-ray technician was also super polite and friendly and made my x-ray experience a pleasant one 5 Stars For Optomotry Doctors: For the optometry department both doctors I interacted with were super nice and friendly. The only trouble with this department is the people at the people at the front desks are not so friendly and seem like they are annoyed and have better things to do than talk to you. This was funny because everyone else was so nice today. Other patients were frustrated as everyone just appears to be talking and looking at computers and not really acknowledging people waiting in line. 2 Stars For Optometry Desk People: I had been waiting in an absolutely empty waiting room for 10 minutes when they texted me and canceled my appointment. The desk staff wasn't friendly, and seemed bothered that I was there for my scheduled appointment. Then they were more bothered that I said I drove a long distance for the appointment and asked if they could honor it. They finally got me in, but man what a rough time. read more

VA healthcare is a joke to begin with. This hospital makes every nightmare you have ever had about the VA come true. Rude and inattentive healthcare workers everywhere. It's like they hire all the people other hospitals in the valley won't. You won't get helped in a timely manner and when you finally get to talk to some they seem like they hate their life more than you do. I needed a new mental health doctor after mine kept making me feel bad about myself. I told them I no longer wanted to be alive and they responded by finding me their soonest appointment, in 6 months from the date of the call. I've been excited to finally talk to someone about getting my life back on track, after the Army destroyed it. I was hopeful they were finally going to help me. 5 days before the appointment, after they have already canceled and rescheduled my appointment once, they called and told me the appointment was canceled. No reason as to why. Asked me if I could reschedule for another month from now. I'm sure they will call me in another couple weeks to push it out even further. Feels like they're just waiting for me to finally just do it so they don't have to deal with me anymore. They broke me and have no interest in helping rebuild my life. It feels like they have absolutely 0 concern about the amount of vets taking their own life's every day, because they feel like they are in this alone in this fight. If you don't have family on your side, you are! I feel this way every day. The VA isn't on your side. They damn sure aren't on mine. They wish it was a higher number so they had fewer people to deal with each day. That's how they make me feel. I know I'm not the only one. This place is terrible. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would, after my appointment on 25 NOV 2019. First, I try to use the valet service & Michelle tells me that they have no parking. Clearly, there is tons of parking spots (please see pictures). Then I ask can I park in a valet spot & she tells me no. I ask Michelle if she will not allow me to park in the empty spot, will she at least call the clinic I was visiting to tell them I may be late. Michelle tells me no, because she doesn't have a walkie-talkie. I end up finding parking nearby, & head up to the second floor for my appointment in Internal Medicine. I check in 15 minutes early (1345). It's now 1430 & I've watched every person come in after me get taken back. I go up to the clerk, because there's a sign that mentions "if you haven't had your viral taken 15 minutes prior to your appointment, see clerk" (please see picture". I tell the clerk I haven't had my vitals taken. She tells me to have a seat & someone will grab me shortly. It's now 1450, I go up again, this time asking for a Patient Advocate. Now the clerk decides this is the time she will ask me for my last name & social. She looks me up in the system & yells, "Oh shoot!". The clerk said that if she would have looked me up sooner, she would have seen that she was supposed to direct me to prosthetics. Again, I ask her for the Patient Advocate & I ask for her name as well (Tiffany). She tells me she doesn't think there is a Patient Advocate, & I tell her that every clinic should have one. She writes the number down & tell me to go to Prosthetics. It's now 1500. I find someone & ask them how to get to prosthetics. I go check in, & Dolores tells me to have a seat. I ask how long will this be, since I've been here over an hour & she says she doesn't know. I ask her for an estimate, & she makes a phone call. Then Dolores replies, go to the 6th floor. I ask, where on the 6th floor. Again, she says the 6th floor. Then a gentleman comes up from behind her & tells me the sleep lab. I walk to the elevators & see that there are only two levels. Finally I find the elevators that go to the 6th floor. I get a phone call from a staff member saying that he will check me in. I have a seat in the waiting room. After 30 mins of waiting, Christian comes back to tell me that he can't adjust the settings on my CPAP. I didn't see a provider or anything. I literally waited all this time for someone to take my CPAP & tell me there is nothing to be done, because there is no data. When I made the appointment, I was very clear by saying I needed to have my CPAP adjusted because it was too much air pressure that made it impossible to sleep with, so I never used it. I received the machine right before I was medically retired & never had any follow-up appointments/adjustments. I waited months for an appointment that didn't even happen. Ultimately, I wasted over two hours for no reason, five if you count the drive there & back. I did not see a provider, no vitals were taken, & my issue wasn't resolved. I even left a message for the patient advocate Tim. I called back & left a second message for him, because no one has followed up with me. The customer service & Care here is nonexistent. read more

My husband was the worse ptsd guy.To me the va was always on the ready to help.His personality was awful,rude very jealous,a blowhart,really hard to live with.I tried for years to get counceling,he seemed to think the problem was me.i called and talked your social workers,they ARE a problem.The wives of veterans are as far as they are concerned,had no feeling,the social workers look p in right thru us.The wives have to live w crazy mood swings unbelievable abuse,we have no life of our own,it's only about him!Everyone had to hear all about vietnam,he never shuts up.All of these guys purchased huge expensive trucks to show off at the va,my husband bought a new one when he had a whim,until he was living on credit cards.I had to get a prenuptial to protect myself,then a separation.I left him a few times sick of his accusations of not being faithful,which I was.Because I was abused since birth I'm a rug,always fold and go back.When I told his nurses about these issues I was ignored.If he had been forced to get counciling,all this hell wouldn't happen.The wives live a life of suspition,accusations,fear,spying on us,it's rediculous.But now I'm gone for good,he's your dam problem now.My years are gone now.Good riddins.Now I have peace of mind. read more

After visiting the ER 3 times in a week in January 2021 and being misdiagnosed and not examined I am now having all of my top teeth removed and have a horrible bone infection in my jaw. This could have been noticed and addressed if the staff would have examined me and don't their jobs properly ...o and I'm still waiting for a primary care doctor.... For 10 months . I'd stay far away from Phoenix VHA. They are great if you do everything they suggest, but as soon as you disagree watch out. Was in San Diego VA prior for 15years only had issues initialy. San Diego110x better never pushed surgery just pain management. In Phoenix Nope, they want me to go through the whole process again insisting on surgery.so recently they denied my pain injections, because i wont take another MRI, and consider surgery. I then started looking around on other VHA's in other states guess San Diegos treatment is best rated 3.3 stars compared to AZ 2.5 which seems to be the average rating for Veterans Health Administration around the Nation go figure. read more

Let me be clear: my review only reflects my vaccination visit. The last time I've been at this VA was when my dad was admitted here in 1998. So I walked in with a little anxiety and uneasiness. Again, that's only due to prior circumstances which have nothing to do with this visit. When I arrived, the staff was taking temperatures at the door and informed me of where I needed to head to be vaccinated. Since this is my first time utilizing this facility for myself, I needed to enroll for eligibility prior to receiving my vaccination. The enrollment process took maybe 10-15 minutes altogether. The gentleman that assisted me was extremely kind and made the process go that much more smoothly. He updated all the necessary information in the system and gave me all the documents I would need for when I was ready to schedule my first appointment with the Phoenix VA. Once in the system, I headed back to the vaccination area to receive my shot. It seemed like I made it back at the perfect time: no line. The ladies at the vaccination station were just as helpful. After verifying that I was enrolled, I went behind the curtain for my shot. The nurse gave me the low-down on side effects and put the last checks in boxes that needed to be verified. (Note: I chose to be vaccinated at the VA because I was informed they were administering the J&J vaccine- one and done!) After the shot, I sat in the "make sure you don't have an allergic reaction" section for an additional 15 minutes before leaving. The entire process was quick. Every person I came into contact with was lovely. I had zero issues with the procedures and policies that were set in place. Even the parking was a breeze for me. So yeah, overall, I would give this VA a solid 4-star rating for my vaccine experience. Now, that mayyyy change if I ever need to come back for anything else. But you have to keep in mind- these people take care of our veterans and they've handled this pandemic like champs. So props to them! You the real MVPs, Phx VA staff! Huge THANK YOU. read more

I am a veteran of over 20 years of service, after what I have been experiencing so far at the VA Hospital. First, let me introduce to some and present to others, in my opinion about one of the best employees at the Phoenix VA Health Care on 7th Street. Her name is Esther Thomas. During my time being homeless and struggling with my diagnosis of alcohol addiction, severe PTSD, and anxiety in 2001, Esther was like my Veteran Angel sent especially from God to me. Every time I thought about either ending my own life or taking someone else life, Esther always may time to sit and listen to me and gave me some encouraging words. As a result of Esther's professional love and dedication to assisting veterans in need, Today I have been clean and sober for over 15 years. Before they closed down I graduated from Argosy University with a BA in Psychology with honors. I graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Master's Degree in Addiction Counseling. Today I am a primary therapist for substance abuse at the Fountain Hills Recovery located in Fountain Hills. I am a consecrated Bishop of Faith Hope and Love International Ministries. I am the chairman of the Arizona West Valley NAACP Health Committee. The most beautiful thing about all of this is that since the year 2001 I check in with Esther Thomas weekly to let her know how I am feeling and she still takes time from her busy schedule to listen to me. Esther Thomas to me is a true veteran's friend. Currently, I am assigned to the VA Clinic on Thomas Rd and 91st Ave. I feel that I have the best primary physician and her assistant that works at the VA Hospital. They take their time to listen to me about my concerns and they don't take my concerns lightly. I am blessed to have them in my life. Today, something awesome happened to me until I couldn't keep it to myself. I had an appointment at the VA Midtown Clinic. What a beautiful blessed experience I had there with the staff. I was scheduled for a consultation for a thyroid biopsy. Wow!!! What an amazing experience that I had today. I met Chief Doctor Vinales, Nurse Stephanie Kristofic, and Nurse Kellams. I was being treated there for the possibility of having thyroid cancer. What I loved about the whole thing was the way I was treated as a veteran and the way that the doctor and staff took the time to explain to my wife and me about this procedure that I was getting ready to have done so that we both felt comfortable about it. It has been a while since being at the VA here in Phoenix, Arizona, that I have experienced such a blessing from the VA Hospital staff in Phoenix. I did not want this day to go by without no one knowing the excellent care the excellent and Professional Service that I received today, and I know that this might sound crazy, but I am hoping when I go back to Midtown VA Clinic, this same staff of professionals will be there to assist me. There were other members at this Midtown VA Clinic. I did not get their names but I also want to tell you I feel blessed by them as well. I went to the ER for an ear pain and pressure and they were able to see that it was not just an outer ear infection, but also middle ear. There was almost no wait time and everyone was very professional even as I was not the nicest, as I was stressed.The front desk was nothing but as nice as could be as was the physician who I could tell really cared. I want to say is that I went to eye clinic with my spouse. I was in waiting room. That have 4 people working as receptionist there, and as veterans were coming in to check in they didn't help right away. One was on their cell phone, the other was staring at his computer and not acknowledge the man in front of him waiting to be checkin. The other was talking to another co worker. One of their doctors replaced my knees. My left knee developed a bad infection. The doctor knowing that my left leg was infected replaced my right knee any was. I developed severe infections in both knees. The infections became so bad that the same doctor remove the knee joint out of my right leg at this point I still had an infection in both legs and the VA doctor wanted to take in amputate both my legs above the knees. I refuse to allow my legs to be amputated finally they sent me to the mayo clinic. I was very fortunate because they were able To get the infection under control and rebuild my right leg. I am still awaiting the operations in surgery on my left leg at the Mayo clinic. When the VA hospital sent a letter to the mayo clinic telling them that they will no longer pay any bills there for anyone regardless fifth the treatment had already been approved or not read more

I've chosen the VA as my overall health care provider for the past four years. I can go anywhere as I have employer provided medical insurance. I choose the VA. The doctors and PAs are wonderful. The facilities and diagnostic equipment are as good or better as any I've seen elsewhere. I've never had a late appointment. Only once have I not been able to get an appointment in 30 days; I was offered an appointment in the community but opted to wait for the VA doctor. The women's clinic is phenomenal; this is surprising considering the low percentage of women veterans. I've had 2 surgeries and both have been performed by premier doctors formerly renowned in the community. The hospital is as good as any in the valley. I highly recommend the VA to anyone eligible. I wish I had known of it sooner. I was USAF missile maintenance. read more

In a nutshell, just a very dangerous place to go to or even have to deal with. I have been out of my medications (including my high blood pressure meds), for over a month now and have been unable to get refills. After over a dozen inquiries concerning status, all I get from them is "we've sent your refill request to your primary physician (Dr. Buckle) and he will contact you". Over the last 4-5 weeks, that's the only reply I have ever received. I'm a disabled combat Vietnam vet and am proud of my service to my country, but I am ashamed of the unsatisfactory actions used by the Phoenix VA. I'm considering getting a physician in the private sector and sever my association with the VA. P.S. I wonder if any of the VA physicians get a guilty conscience when they cash their paycheck. I can see why people get upset with the VA the scheduling is such a headache, they screwed up my Grandpas appointment 4 times ! I forgive them but it's just unacceptable to mess up more than twice. The Doctors & nurses are wonderful but out biggest complaint is the scheduling. Get this, a supervisor actually scheduled us on a holiday Monday the 15th to be exact which was Washington's Birthday and the VA was closed No one takes responsibility for the screw ups either at least own up to the mistake and make it better the next time. Wow what an awful place. So when I see my doctor she is asking questions and typing my answers in. You can't see her face because it is blocked by two computer screens. She asks me to slow down because she can't type that fast. She shows no concern for me and actually never makes eye to eye contact. She is constantly berating the antiquated va system. I felt like a number and nothing more. Then she asks me what I want her to do. Really .... you are The doctor thought that was what you were supposed to tell me. So we serve and this is how we are treated! What a sad way of saying thank you. But thanks to Obama care I can't afford anything else!
