    Emergency room check in.
    Stephanie M.

So my boyfriend is a Vet and after a four day trip of flying he came home complaining of a stiff neck lol so we took him here to the VA emergency room on a Saturday let alone on a holiday weekend and shockingly enough the place only had a handful of people waiting to see a doctor we were both shocked considering what the news outlets make this hospital look like. It was clean, the staff was kind , vending machine if you got thirsty. We were in and out in three hours . I can say our experience was a positive one I hope to not have to update a review in the future but if I do I hope it to is positive.

A simple rash that showed up within days of the second individual dose of Opdivo.

Asking for healthcare should never be considered harassment by healthcare providers. Having an allergic reaction to a cancer drug should never be left untreated because the healthcare providers have decided to refuse to treat a 100% P&T Disabled veteran. Sheduling online appointments for patients and refusing to show up to the appointment should never happen. Entering a statement that said the patient refused to go to the clinic for treatment, and going so far as to say the appointment was completed by the provider, when he refused to attend the online appointment, should never happen. Telling a patient that their stage IV renal cancer would not be treated until it got worse, should never happen. Telling a patient that the VA OIG had found that other veterans (patients) had died because they were denied care in the clinic. These incidents should never happen, yet it happened three different times in three different specialty clinics. When patients are accused of being angry when requesting that healthcare providers please stop making such insensitive statements to the patient advocate as a form of retaliation, such events should never happen. Being covered with open wounds that started out as a simple rash due to an allergic reaction to a cancer drug, should never have been allowed to happen. The administrative staff, and healthcare providers in the Phoenix VA Medical Center acted out of anger and malice as they denied the timely healthcare to a 100% P&T Disabled Veteran who ended up moving out of state out of fear of being the next veteran allowed to die because they were denied healthcare. The scars to the skin are permanent, but not nearly as serious as the emotional toll taken by being denied healthcare and listening to and reading rude and retaliatory statements by the healthcare providers.

Super Detailed and Objective Summary Of Services In various Departments After a few more trips to the Phoenix VA hospital today I thought it was time to update my review and give some detailed information about the good jobs I received from the people in certain departments as well as terrible. -1 Stars for MRI Scheduling: I tore my rotator cuff nearly 6 weeks ago. I called my doctor right away because it really hurts a lot! They made me an Xray appointment and we got that done in a snap! Then they said to schedule an MRI, so I called and they told me I have to wait more than 3 months to be seen!!! I asked if they knew what a torn rotator cuff felt like and that it was painful, they said there is nothing they can do. This is not acceptable. 5 Stars For Inpatient Labs: Everyone at in patient labs were professional and friendly. I got my labs done and was on my way and all was great. The Blonde girl who is pregnant was super friendly and had a good sense of humor. 5 Stars For Podiatry: Everyone was super friendly and they even got me in slightly earlier than my appointment since I showed up early. They were a courteous and professional group of people including the doctor, nurse, medical doctor students plural, and even the people at the desk! I liked my female doctor with the unique and difficult to remember last name... 5 Stars For X-Ray: I showed up to x-ray 10 minutes early and was seen almost immediately so that was pretty awesome. The guy at the desk is always there and he is always a super friendly guy. My blonde haired x-ray technician was also super polite and friendly and made my x-ray experience a pleasant one 5 Stars For Optomotry Doctors: For the optometry department both doctors I interacted with were super nice and friendly. The only trouble with this department is the people at the people at the front desks are not so friendly and seem like they are annoyed and have better things to do than talk to you. This was funny because everyone else was so nice today. Other patients were frustrated as everyone just appears to be talking and looking at computers and not really acknowledging people waiting in line. 2 Stars For Optometry Desk People: I had been waiting in an absolutely empty waiting room for 10 minutes when they texted me and canceled my appointment. The desk staff wasn't friendly, and seemed bothered that I was there for my scheduled appointment. Then they were more bothered that I said I drove a long distance for the appointment and asked if they could honor it. They finally got me in, but man what a rough time.

    Valet parking spots
    Lakeva C.

If I could give this place zero stars I would, after my appointment on 25 NOV 2019. First, I try to use the valet service & Michelle tells me that they have no parking. Clearly, there is tons of parking spots (please see pictures). Then I ask can I park in a valet spot & she tells me no. I ask Michelle if she will not allow me to park in the empty spot, will she at least call the clinic I was visiting to tell them I may be late. Michelle tells me no, because she doesn't have a walkie-talkie. I end up finding parking nearby, & head up to the second floor for my appointment in Internal Medicine. I check in 15 minutes early (1345). It's now 1430 & I've watched every person come in after me get taken back. I go up to the clerk, because there's a sign that mentions "if you haven't had your viral taken 15 minutes prior to your appointment, see clerk" (please see picture". I tell the clerk I haven't had my vitals taken. She tells me to have a seat & someone will grab me shortly. It's now 1450, I go up again, this time asking for a Patient Advocate. Now the clerk decides this is the time she will ask me for my last name & social. She looks me up in the system & yells, "Oh shoot!". The clerk said that if she would have looked me up sooner, she would have seen that she was supposed to direct me to prosthetics. Again, I ask her for the Patient Advocate & I ask for her name as well (Tiffany). She tells me she doesn't think there is a Patient Advocate, & I tell her that every clinic should have one. She writes the number down & tell me to go to Prosthetics. It's now 1500. I find someone & ask them how to get to prosthetics. I go check in, & Dolores tells me to have a seat. I ask how long will this be, since I've been here over an hour & she says she doesn't know. I ask her for an estimate, & she makes a phone call. Then Dolores replies, go to the 6th floor. I ask, where on the 6th floor. Again, she says the 6th floor. Then a gentleman comes up from behind her & tells me the sleep lab. I walk to the elevators & see that there are only two levels. Finally I find the elevators that go to the 6th floor. I get a phone call from a staff member saying that he will check me in. I have a seat in the waiting room. After 30 mins of waiting, Christian comes back to tell me that he can't adjust the settings on my CPAP. I didn't see a provider or anything. I literally waited all this time for someone to take my CPAP & tell me there is nothing to be done, because there is no data. When I made the appointment, I was very clear by saying I needed to have my CPAP adjusted because it was too much air pressure that made it impossible to sleep with, so I never used it. I received the machine right before I was medically retired & never had any follow-up appointments/adjustments. I waited months for an appointment that didn't even happen. Ultimately, I wasted over two hours for no reason, five if you count the drive there & back. I did not see a provider, no vitals were taken, & my issue wasn't resolved. I even left a message for the patient advocate Tim. I called back & left a second message for him, because no one has followed up with me. The customer service & Care here is nonexistent.

When my Dr went in for an emergency, complicated back problems, top notch (thank goodness) and was admitted to Barrows for surgery with the neurosurgeon highly rated and a concerned doctor giving my daughter a chance...and what an excellent doctor! Still a better hospital than any Banner so I'd recommend them out of that alone, but their rating is in the toilet concerning me.

Nurses aside, the rest of the staff has question marks. Let's start with the gestapo ICE wannabes sitting in the emergency room that ask you what you are doing there and then tell you to go stand in line. They cannot hear a thing behind that stupid glass. Just cover your face like your heroes and get rid of the glass. The doctors all seem concerned on what happened on a test 5 years ago so much more so than a current test result. The high blood pressure from 5 years ago has already been addressed... as you can tell by the current readings. As a visitor, one day I walk in freely and go where I want, no questions asked. The next day a dude runs me down like he's a free safety to tell me he has to check me in and give me a designer paper bracelet to wear. If the free safety is correct, the day 1 staff should be fired for dereliction of duty. Why is it not possible to assume that anybody not in a hospital gown is a visitor? Why is the bracelet necessary? Somebody got paid to come up with this idea.

As a board-certified spine surgeon, I just finished a peer-to-peer review with a UnitedHealthcare…read morephysician reviewer regarding one of my patients. The experience was deeply frustrating. My patient has two cervical disc herniations causing spinal cord compression. Based on my clinical evaluation, imaging, and the available medical literature, I recommended cervical artificial disc replacement because it preserves motion and is an appropriate treatment option for carefully selected patients. The procedure was denied--not because the patient was not suffering, not because conservative treatment had not failed, and not because there was a better evidence-based alternative. It was denied because UnitedHealthcare's internal policy considered the patient's degree of disc degeneration outside its criteria for disc replacement, despite my belief that the recommendation was medically appropriate. What makes this particularly difficult to understand is that UnitedHealthcare was willing to approve a fusion, which permanently eliminates motion at the involved levels, while denying a motion-preserving procedure that I believe is in my patient's best interest. When an insurer approves a more invasive operation while denying a less motion-sacrificing alternative for policy reasons rather than individualized medical judgment, patients lose. Insurance companies absolutely have a responsibility to control costs and prevent inappropriate care. But those policies should evolve with high-quality clinical evidence and allow physicians to exercise individualized medical judgment. Blanket policy restrictions that override the treating surgeon's expertise can delay optimal care and force patients into treatment pathways they may not have otherwise chosen. My frustration is not about a disagreement between physicians--that happens in medicine. It is about patients being caught between evidence-based clinical decision-making and rigid insurance policies. Patients deserve decisions driven first by medicine, not by checkboxes.

Because I no longer have accchs. They are able to bill accchs $677 for every visit, but now that I pay cash they only make $179 per visit. They forgot to send in my drug tests multiple times! I knew I'd report them to the state board and accchs months ago. I've been talking about all the sketchy shit to my mom and disabled friend for months. So I knew I was going to report them from the start. I am apart of the reason the fbi shut down a ton of sober living homes for human trafficking and double billing. I hate when people break the law and don't follow rules! I'm autistic it's hard to ignore. It's very easy to see when an accchs scam is happening and I felt it happening the second he gave me 10mg oxycodone without starting me on 5mg first. And then he kept letting my pee tests expire and not send to lab. Today the doctor says he is cutting me off pain meds because they don't feel comfortable prescribing them long term. I asked them if I broke the pain contract, they said no. I later get an email saying I'm permanently discharged because I broke The pain contract. They kicked me out of their practice because I am self pay. Discrimination. They're also not billing using correct address' and he's practicing in multiple states with multiple address. I talked to my pharmacist right away and told them everything I experienced and they told me YES this doctor is doing illegal shit. 1/26/26 they said I no longer need to do drug tests to receive my meds, that's illegal. My pharmacist is helping me with filing the report to accchs and the state board. Oh yeah he also gave me a 14 day supply of meds but wrote on the bottle it was a 7 day supply of meds. So I felt like he was trying to trick me or something. I'm not a drug addict so I use my meds properly and this little weird shit he did, did not affect me, I never took more than I was supposed to. But prescribing meds wrong on purpose is illegal as well, malpractice. I've been on prescribed controlled substances since I was 8 years old, I am well aware of how it all works. I've been permanently disabled for 12 years also. And then he tried to get me to do as many x rays as possible before my insurance cut off. He found scoliosis and then cancelled me as a patient immediately. Why would someone do that? He wouldn't even discuss my imagining he ordered. He made me pay $179 to get discharged today. So yeah I knew immediately the second he prescribed meds wrong and gave me 10mg oxycodone right away that he was crooked and I WAS FUCKING RIGHT!!!! If you ever feel weird at pain mgmt ask the pharmacist about it. They can definitely reassure you if you experienced something illegal. Other than that, while I was being prescribed oxycodone for a few months, the appointments were fast and scheduled normally. Just nothing the doctor ever did was normal. Letting my pee tests expire multiple times, writing wrong medication information. Accchs would only allow a 7 day RX and he gave me 14 days and put 7 days on the bottle, so that's called LYING. Lying about how much you're prescribing. All I see is red flags at this place.

The RN assigned to us was somewhat polite, but when we asked for water for the patient, we were told we could get it ourselves rather than being assisted. I also did not observe the IV port being sanitized before medication was administered, and a green disinfecting cap was not placed on the IV afterward. In addition, the pads the patient was lying on had visible blood on them and were not changed. I ended up removing the soiled pad from underneath her myself. These are basic cleanliness and sanitation practices that are important in a hospital setting. The experience left me feeling like I had to closely watch the care being provided to make sure things were being done properly. I hope hospital leadership or patient relations reviews this feedback and reinforces proper care standards for future patients.
