PhotoHQ is the best! I use them consistently for developing and scanning film -- 35mm and medium format, BW and color. The small team is kind and knowledgeable. The develop and scan quality is professional (standard scans are good enough to see nice grain, but you can pay extra for raw and higher resolution). The turnaround for develop+scan is consistently 1-3 days (fast!), you can come in-person or mail-in, and pricing is better than anywhere around Seattle I've found. We came here to get U.S. passport photos done for my kiddos, and it went really smoothly! I was nervous about my toddler being scared and fidgety but she was great. This place had all the right equipment/props to take photos for kids/babies. For my toddler, they had a step stool for her to stand on while I held her hand on the side. For my baby, they had a little lounge chair seat for him to sit. It cost $15 per photo (plus tax) which is a decent price to pay for peace of mind of getting correct passport photos done! This is a great place to go to get Canadian passport photos. I was actually getting PR photos which are a little different than passport photos and they immediately knew the differences, but reviewed the specifications I had brought just in case there were any changes. They then took a number of photos, rejected any that they thought might not work. They told me they hadn't had a rejected photo in a long time and it was a point of pride that they not get any. Wanted to print a few digital photos on good quality paper. Well, this placed uses old school photo paper, on old school photo developing machines. They even put them in the photo envelopes like back in the 80's and 90's. . (This will giveaway my age) The owner was very helpful and I was able to download the pics from my phone in the shop, select the size and crop the photos, checkout, and have the photo prints done in less than 30 minutes. I went there because of the nice reviews and I needed pictures for passeports. I don't like leaving negative reviews but I am very disappointed. I was not given any option to look at the pictures before they printed them. I paid $25 per person, and the pictures are really terrible. So yes, I guess they met the passeport requirements (so they got 2 stars) but my daughter looks like she is a deer in the headlights. I would really not recommend. I needed two passport photos that met European and not US standards. I needed them for a meeting in a week. I arrived at Magic Photo on a Saturday about 3:45 and their closing time was 4:00PM. No problem with the time. The owner took my photos and had them ready in a few minutes. We went a little over past closing time, about 4:15. No problems or complaints from the business. The turn around for developing film from disposables was astounding. Most places take 5-7 days and if you use Walgreens or CVS it can take WEEKS. I cannot say enough good about this place! My wife found an old picture of she and her mom from 50 years ago. (We are 55) I contacted them, by email, and asked if there was anything they were able to do with it? As the photo was 50 years old, long before cell phone cameras, the lighting was terrible. I don't really have a scale for how to rate passport photo places--do I factor in ambiance? I think not. I'm going to rate on efficiency and pleasantness and for that, Magic easily merits the full five star treatment. It's kind of tucked away in some strip malls that almost seem not to be there. You're going so fast on this stretch of 99 that you can easily miss the sign because the letters just aren't large enough to read at that speed. So pay attention. No vegging! Once inside, though, they're clearly well-established, and they want to put a good foot forward. They handle all kinds of portraiture, frames, scanning, etc. But I was here to get a passport photo. How old am I and I have never needed one before? I know--ridiculous. But no time like the present, eh what. Evidently there's a whole science of regulatory observation to these things. I am glad I didn't send off my $110 cashier's check with a self-portrait. You can't smile. You need the right background. You need your head to be centered, and between this big and that big. Magic just takes what appears to be a candid snapshot with a little hand-held digital, but then they weave their magic in special passport-photo-editing software that checks for all the stuff that the Department of State will reject you for. I am not making this up, and this was all news to me. I walked in kind of expecting/dreading the possibility that a passport photo place would be pretty grotty, with a decided air of helping kids get fake IDs. Clearly they're not all like that. The lady was ultra-pleasant, and knew all the regs for every country's passports. She said she had customers come all the way to Edmonds from the east side because she could meet Brazilian photo requirements and no other studio in town could. This is crazy to me. Ultimately, I paid $13 for two unflattering wallet-sized mug shots, but I'm considering $12 of that at least to go for the expertise here. We'll see in 4-6 weeks whether it was money well spent. read more

I have been a good customer of Magic Photo for many years and have ordered large format prints to passport photos. Today, I called to discuss getting a print of our kitty who recently passed away. I explained I had smaller than needed image as far as MB but the guy working was rude, cut me off and said he had to have 18 MB minimum to work with.
